Attacked-Ch 13

Derek hadn't even realized that he had dozed off to sleep until he felt a hand on his shoulder gently shaking him, he looked up to see the smiling face of his mom and sisters. He raised up and rubbed his tired eyes and said, "good morning ladies".

Fran handed him a cup of coffee and said, "good morning honey, sorry to wake you", Derek took the coffee and took a sip and said, "not a problem, ohhh ma this is delicious". Fran said, "I brought it from home and I also brought these" as she handed him some fresh donuts that she made this morning.

Derek said, "thank you mommaaaa" as he took a bite, he said, "ohhhh this is so so good", Sarah said, "how are you doing this morning baby brother"?, Derek said, "tired but I'm okay". Desi said, "do you want to go home and grab a shower and get a fresh change of clothes"?, Derek shook his head and said, "I don't want to be that far away from baby girl".

Fran handed him a bag and said, "we thought you would say that, here is a change of clothes and Grace said that you can take a shower here in Penelope's room". Derek took the bag and said, "you are all amazing, thank you so much", he finished his coffee and donuts first before kissing Penelope on the forehead and then heading into the bathroom for a much wanted and much needed bath.

Sarah and Desi sat on one side of Penelope's bed and Fran the other, they started talking to Penelope about anything they could think of from what a beautiful day it was outside to the sound of the birds chirping. When the room was quiet a few minutes later all they could hear was the swoosh swoosh of the ventillator and the beeping of the heart monitor.

Fran put her hand on top of Penelope's and said, "my son is so in love with you Penelope, you are his world and I don't know what would happen to him if you didn't come back to him". Desi said, "I've never seen him as happy as he is when he's with you, it's always been that way, when we lived in Chicago and he would come for a visit it was always oh my baby girl said this or my baby girl said that, he was soooooooo in love with you then but didn't think he deserved you".

Sarah said, "my brother is stubborn but he has one of the biggest and loving hearts of anybody I've ever seen in my entire life and he can't imagine a life without you in it so please come back, please don't leave". Fran said, "you are so loved by everybody that knows you, your team would be lost without you, they say that you are the heart of the team, you are what holds them together".

Desi said, "having you around is like having another sister, I love you Penelope, we all do and we miss you, we miss that fire in your eyes, that smile, that laugh so please please come back". A few minutes later Derek came out of the bathroom all cleaned up and feeling a lot better after his shower, he sighed happily and walked over to join his mom, sisters and his baby girl.

Derek opened his mouth to ask if their had been any changes when he saw Penelope's hand move, he took her hand in his and said, "can you hear me sweetness, if you can hear me please open those beautiful eyes of yours". Everybody looked at her face and were so happy when they saw that her eyes were trying to flutter open, Derek said, "come on sweetness, you can do it, you can do it".

They were all standing by her bedside when her eyes opened and she was looking at them, she tried to talk but couldn't and she started getting worked up and started trying to pull the tube out. Derek put his hand on hers and said, "sweetness, it's okay you are in the hospital, that tube is helping you breathe so don't try to pull it out".

She stilled and grabbed him by the hand and Derek said, "Sarah, Desi go get the doctor, tell her that Penelope woke up", the girls nodded their heads and ran from the room. Derek smiled down at his baby girl and said, "I've missed you so much baby girl, I love you, I love you so so much", her eyes widened as those words came from his mouth, seconds later Grace ran into the room and asked everybody to step out so that she could examine Penelope.

Derek started to go but she held on tight to his hand and Grace seeing that said that it was okay for him to stay since it was obvious that she felt safe with him in the room. Fran and the girls stepped out into the hall so that they could inform the team that Penelope had finally woke up, when the team heard the news they told Fran that they would be there as soon as they could because they couldn't wait to see their friend awake.
