Bruce Wayne, Gotham City's most coveted bachelor, was looking at himself in the mirror in his bedroom at Wayne Manor where a wedding was to take place soon. It wasn't the wedding of one of his closest friends like Clark Kent, aka Superman; Dick Grayson, also known as Nightwing; John Stewart, aka Green Lantern, Barry Allen, aka Flash; or Oliver Queen, also known as Green Arrow. All of them were already married, and some were already expecting children.
The wedding that was to take place was his own.
He was gazing at his appearance with his black hair neatly combed. He was dressed in his black tuxedo that fit perfectly. This was something that he never thought he would get to do.
He never thought that he would marry. He had always thought that he would spend the rest of his life watching his friends be happy while he continued to focus on being Batman, the mythical night watchman who stopped criminal activity and beat up the super villains of Gotham City.
This was something that he had decided since he had been eight years old when he lost his parents thanks to an armed criminal who demanded money in the so-called "Crime Alley". They had just left a movie at the cinema, a movie that curiously was also about a vigilante dressed in black.
From that moment, he always thought that his life would only be about fighting criminals and villains even into his old age. He didn't plan on getting involved in any romantic relationships, but rather friendship relationships similar to the one he'd established with Dick Grayson or Clark Kent. While they had found love, he remained focused on his mission.
It wasn't until a certain point that Dick decided to stop being Robin, and became Nightwing that he had finally found some kind of love. That was a very rare… and toxic love.
That love manifested itself in the form of Selina Kyle, a woman raised in the harshest conditions Gotham City had to offer, leading to her being a tough thief with impressive acrobatic skills and a skilled hand-to-hand fighter. She was a recurring villain and occasional heroine. They had met during a robbery committed by her, which ended with her running away from him.
Some time later, he had managed to arrest her. Soon, she wanted him to save her from the darkness that was within her. She accepted it… but only temporarily. She would betray him or leave him only to come back after a certain time. One day, she finally cut ties with him, making it clear to him that she would never change her life for him. It had left him somewhat shattered inside.
This made him raise the walls that he had built so as not to show emotions in front of anyone, walls that Clark had managed to tear down to a certain point. He had become his best friend even though he kept telling him to find a girl or something for him to be happy.
Some time later, Starro, a starfish-shaped alien with a red eye in the center, had invaded planet Earth trying to conquer it with his metal control spores that clung to people's faces. He and Superman had to join forces with Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter and Hawkgirl... and Wonder Woman, also known as Diana of Themyscira. She was the princess of the Amazons, a race of women who until then were considered nothing more than a myth or even extinct.
After stopping Starro's attack, the Justice League had been formed, a group made up of those heroes to maintain peace and order on the planet. At the same time, Batman began to develop an attraction for the princess. The attraction quickly turned into a friendship, a strong friendship.
However, to his bad luck, love ended up coming to him again, but this time in the form of Talia Al Ghul, the daughter of Ra's Al Ghul. Ra's was the head of the demon, leader of the League of Shadows which was a secret order that was dedicated to killing people to avoid an ecological collapse on the planet.
Talia managed to make him fall in love with her, but with the aim of being able to make him the leader of the league. Her father also wanted him as his succesor. Unfortunately, her beliefs were so different that they ended up separating them.
Bruce would never kill, but Thalia would do it without thinking in order to achieve her goals as well as her father's. Although he tried to do the same thing that he had tried to do with Selina, he couldn't save her from the darkness that possessed her. Talia like Selina did not want to be saved. She was already engulfed, and unfortunately, she would always choose her father above him. This again left him shattered, and he again raised the walls that he had built for himself.
Some time later, he began to get involved in more League missions. He was required to carry out investigations that the other members could not carry out in most cases. During this time, his relationship with Diana grew closer. They were even close to kissing, but he refused to give in.
He didn't know how she could make him feel good. From the beginning, Diana had a kind of halo that always provoked these emotions in him. No matter how hard he tried to pretend that he was a tough person with no weaknesses, she always managed to make him feel good, even when neither of them said anything.
Diana was the one who was never affected by intimidation and tense atmosphere. That halo always made him feel good, so Good in fact that he couldn't imagine her leaving forever.
That was the reason why he didn't want to lose her. He could bear losing her like he did his parents, Selina, and Talia. He couldn't bear a life without her. She was his best friend, and he had pure love for her, but the personality problems he possessed, the dangers that life held for him as Batman, and the fear of losing her were too much for him to admit that he loved her or to try to find a relationship with her. He didn't want to take that risk.
For a time, Diana tried to make him see that a relationship between them could be possible. With that halo that she had, she managed to penetrate his emotional defenses, but there was no success. Even though she made him see that he felt love for her, he would never risk it which was very difficult to tell her. He preferred that she always be his friend because it was safer than risking having an affair with her. Being with her carried a great possibility of losing both her and himself. Her halo that made him feel good about her.
It wasn't until Diana returned to her home on Themyscira to wage a great fight against enemies of the Amazons that Bruce finally made up his mind to declare his love for her. She had been there for a few months, but something inside him wanted her to be here with him.
Finally, this had shown him that, even if they were friends, it was not certain that it would last for a lifetime. There was always danger that one of them would lose the other, and he was more than determined to avoid that, or at least be able to last as long as they could as a couple.
So, defying the Amazons, he went to Themyscira, confronting some of them so he could get to Diana's room to tell her that he loved her. The battles against the enemies of the Amazons were over, but Diana had been busy training her sisters. It seemed that training would never end, and that she would never return to the World of Man.
Fortunately for him, she arrived at the right time. He apologized for having been a moron for so long, and told her that he did not want to live any longer without her. She made him feel alive and... happy, something that he was always afraid to say and feel.
Whenever he allowed himself that little pleasure, it was taken from him in less time than he thought, but with her, there was no problem saying it or feeling it. He wanted her, and no other woman could replace her.
Diana shed tears of joy. She had thought that he would never propose to her, and she had considered leaving him after having defeated the enemies of Themyscira, staying here to train her sisters. But with him risking everything by coming to her home and saying those words to her, he made her happy.
Seconds later, they were kissing as if his life depended on it. The love they hadn't had before had finally blossomed.
Remember those walls I built
Well, baby they're tumbling down
And they didn't even put up a fight
They didn't even make up (a sound)
He spent two days in Themyscira while Diana continued to train her sisters. It wasn't until the third day that she told him that he couldn't leave Gotham City unprotected for long. He had to go, but he would come back.
This was not necessary since Diana promised him that she would only be there for four more days and then she would go to the mansion. They said goodbye with a delicious kiss and he left.
These turned out to be the longest four days of his life. There wasn't a moment when he didn't think about her. He was quite anxious to have her here, wanted to smell her jasmine scent again and feel her lips against his. He wanted to hear her angelic voice or just to see her with that halo that could make him smile without even doing anything.
Fortunately for her, Diana returned int the timeframe that she had promised him. He hugged her with all her strength, even telling her that he did not want to be separated from her again. Obviously, she hugged him back, and told him they wouldn't be apart.
I found a way to let you in
But I never really had a doubt
(Standing in the light of your halo)
(I got my angel now)
Subsequently, their relationship progressed. They had daily romantic dates, nights full of passion, and of different famous sites (an advantage of having teleporters and a girlfriend with the ability to fly). They enjoyed quiet moments in which neither of them had anything to do and they just enjoyed being one with the other.
Like all couples, they were not free from disagreements, low moments, arguments, or fights. They could not see each other for periods of time, but the latter because of their lives as superheroes. Despite all this, his love for her was infinite and he was not going to let these complications ruin their relationship.
In less time than he realized, and thanks to the great advice of Alfred Pennyworth, he decided to take the final step: he was going to propose marriage. The proposal took place on a visit to Greece. Bruce kept checking that he had the box with the engagement ring in his pocket over and over again.
Diana had noticed that Bruce was very nervous. She had even asked him why he always reached into his pocket. He had told her it was nothing, but she knew he was hiding something. She didn't know what it was.
It was not until the evening when they were on the hotel balcony that he asked if she would be his wife. It was a titanic effort for him, since the box where the ring was had fallen about three times. He hadn't done anything as difficult as this before.
Diana laughed a bit. It was uncommon to see the serious and fearsome Batman being nervous about proposing to a woman, but seconds later she told him that she would marry him. Later, they had another passionate night.
They spent a few months planning the wedding. They alerted their friends and colleagues in the league as well as civilians about the engagement. The most remarkable thing about this was how Superman gave him a bear hug while at the same time telling him that he was happy for him (although the latter had already been done by the other members of the League).
That was in addition to the congratulations by Flash who told him that he couldn't believe Diana had an affinity for a robot. He shut his mouth a few seconds later when Batman threatened to send him into outer space through an airlock at the Watchtower, the league's headquarters.
And now here he was in the manor contemplating how he was minutes away from marrying the woman his heart beat for. The long road he had traveled to get here was not easy and it was very hard to believe. He never thought that he would find love, especially with an Amazon, but Diana was always the exception to everything.
His thoughts were interrupted when Alfred entered the room.
"Master Bruce, it's time for you to come down. The wedding is about to begin, and the groom always has to be at the altar waiting for the bride," he told her.
Hearing those words, he smiled again in the mirror. In a few minutes, this would be the happiest day of his life. He hoped that nothing ruined it.
"Here we go, Alfred," Bruce told him, smiling.

Diana of Themyscira, was also looking in the mirror, lost in thought about what had happened and how this day had come about. She was only a few minutes away from making the maximum commitment in the World of Man: she was going to marry one of them.
But he was not just any man. The man was Bruce Wayne, someone who for most of the world was just a billionaire that spent all his time on extreme hobbies, cars, luxuries, and women. For the few people who did not know him, he spent most of his time as Batman, the vigilante of Gotham City.
She still couldn't believe how they had gotten to this point, all that had been done and they had gone through to get here. She was happy, but this was all very hard to believe. She had never thought that she was going to find love with a man, least of all with someone who was practically seen as a cold being without feelings and without a heart.
She had been born on the Island of Themyscira, home to the Amazons. They were a species dedicated to the Greek gods who hated men for a heinous mistreatment received long ago. She was carved out of clay and then a lightning bolt from the Olympian Gods gave her life… or at least that's what her mother always told her. Obviously, anyone in the World of Man would say it was ridiculous or a string of high-end talk.
She was raised on that island just like all the women on that island. She was trained to become the strongest and most skilled Amazon on that island. At the same time that she had been indoctrinated to hate and disown everything that had to do with the male gender. She was always told that there was no man that was good.
She grew up with that ideology for quite some time, but at the same time with a curiosity. That curiosity took her to the World of Man to confirm if what her mother and sisters had always told her was true, but they never gave her permission to leave the island.
So, she decided to leave the island using the armor of the supreme champion of the Amazons which was in a temple without guards. It was still the most difficult thing she had to do in her entire life. Taking the armor required the greatest dexterity and control possible.
Upon achieving this, she left the island with an indestructible armor, a great conviction and powers that that armor granted to the one who wore it. It gave invulnerability, the ability to fly, greater speed, and superhuman strength.
Once she reached the World of Man, she had to fight alongside the other metahumans to stop Starro's invasion. Once the invasion ended, she could see that the men weren't as bad as all the Amazons used to tell her.
By interacting with all these heroes, she found more than she thought she would find. Superman, John Stewart, Barry Allen, Oliver Queen and J'onn J'onnz (the Martian detective) became her brothers. She never thought she was going to love men as if they were her brothers.
At the same time, Diana also found women whom she would love as if they were her sisters, such as Shayera Hol. While making friends with them had been somewhat difficult, understanding how the World of Man worked had been even more difficult. She was in unknown territory where she did not know how this world worked beyond the fact that men had absolute power almost everywhere. Even she had to learn what a window was after accidentally destroying one.
However, falling in love with Bruce had been her biggest challenge, and something that she had originally considered impossible. Well, she had been told that all men were bad, and the man she had fallen in love with was the most unlikely option. He was a man that even her mother did not consider credible when she told her.
In addition, she had made friends with all the other members of the league, but he was the one who had kept his distance with her. She knew it was because he still had his doubts about whether she was someone dangerous for the league. Also, they didn't have a lot of information about her beyond what she had told them, making him distrust her even more.
Yet even though he kept his distance from her, something about him drew her to him. He had a kind of aura of mystery, emotion and danger that made her feel Good. At first, everything became unstable because he cut off the conversation they had to go elsewhere and prevent things from escalating further.
It's like I've been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin'
It's the risk that I'm takin'
I ain't never gonna shut you out
When Bruce found love with Talia, Diana knew how the world worked and how people acted. Dating men was not something she was interested in unless it was with Bruce, or she would go out with friends, occasionally hanging out with Superman.
Once the relationship between Bruce and Talia was over, and he had been involved in more missions in the league, she resumed her friendship with him. At first, Bruce tried to keep his distance, but after considerable time had passed after his breakup, he had accepted her company again.
It took a little longer for her relationship to deepen and become more comfortable for both of them, but it was worth the wait as he finally opened up quite a bit to her. He shared with her everything that he did as Gotham's watchdog or as Bruce Wayne.
Tired of his constant denials, she tried to make him see that she was an Amazon with super powers and that she could face any enemy. Besides that she loved him, something that she had never said to any other man before. But he kept arguing that either of them could die, and that he couldn't bear for her to suffer once he was gone or if she died before him.
Deciding to put aside her devotion to Bruce, Diana rededicated herself to missions and outings with friends until a magical arrow from Themyscira surprised her in her bedroom. The arrow had a coiled message attached to it.
She opened it and saw that the island of Themyscira was being attacked. Knowing that her companions were not allowed, she decided to go alone, but not without first telling Superman that she would take some time off from the League.
Returning to Themyscira, she not only faced Circe, a dangerous sorceress whose power rivaled her own but she also faced Cheetah, Giganta, and Medusa. All four were a lethal combination for her, but it was thanks to the training and evolution she had as a hero in the World of Man that helped her stop being an impulsive, explosive and quite adventurous Amazon without thinking about what could go wrong. Even Circe was shocked that her fighting techniques and temperament had improved, something the other Amazons had failed to do.
It was thanks to this that Diana realized that she had returned to Themyscira at a crucial moment. Her sisters and her mother needed to evolve. They needed to learn new combat techniques, but at the same time put misandric prejudices and behaviors behind them.
This was what motivated her to stay much longer on the island. Perhaps one day she would give up her position as Wonder Woman to another Amazon. It might be necessary to take the place of queen or some more important position other than a princess.
It took Batman a long time to realize that she had returned to her home because he was engaged in an important case against the Riddler. Once this was closed, he went back to the Watctower and noted her absence. He easily deduced that she had lied to Superman, so she went to ask him to get the information he had. After obtaining it, he prepared to quickly go to Themyscira, but Superman stopped him, telling him that it was likely that she would return in no time. If something bad had happened, they would have seen more Amazons visiting the Watchtower.
This convinced Batman to wait a while longer. Seeing that she did not return, he decided to go for her.
Diana was surprised when she saw Batman walking through the door of her room about to be attacked with the spears of all the other Amazons. She stopped her sisters from attacking him, reassuring them that he wasn't coming to hurt her.
In a matter of minutes, she was crying with joy as she saw how she took off his cowl and declared his feelings without using the lasso of truth. She did not expect Bruce to come to her island home to tell her that he loved her and that he wanted a relationship with her. She thought he was coming here to tell her that the world was in danger again and that they needed her back. This was far better than she had thought. She finally had the man she loved in front of her and he was willing to be with her.
Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby, I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace
Even though they had officially become a couple, she still had work to do in Themyscira, but Bruce had to go back to protecting Gotham. He left when she had promised him that she would return. Diana, despite the fact that she continued to train her sisters and instill a better philosophy in them, missed Bruce too much. She ended up returning after a few days to Gotham City. With him, she felt, for the first time in a long time, peace.
As their romance progressed, she felt happier than ever. Although she never thought that she would fall in love with a man. He did everything he could to show her how much he loved her, but Bruce always did. He was always telling her everything he loved about her, and sharing his deepest secrets, something that she also did. Before Bruce had even proposed to her, they knew each other better than themselves.
Not only that, but the halo she saw in Bruce changed. It was not only emotion, danger and mystery, but it emanated happiness, joy, comfort, devotion to her... and love, a very strong love. Many might see her and Bruce as a couple that didn't make sense together, but she could always see that side of him. She could see the man behind Bruce Wayne and Batman, who proved to be the most loving and passionate man in the world. It was a privilege she never hesitated to keep hidden, to maintain his reputation as the scariest hero of all.
Although, eventually, there came a curious moment in her life. If she ever thought that she would never fall in love with a man, there was also another moment when she never thought that Bruce would propose to her. When it happened, she laughed, her mind and heart in Paradise. She very happily told him that she would marry him.
You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Baby, I can feel your halo
Pray it won't fade away
So the next priority was to tell her mother and the other members of the League that she would marry Bruce Wayne. Her colleagues in the League congratulated her while her mother was not entirely happy that she was engaged to a man despite the fact she was changing her ideology about men.
Once the wedding occurred, she would alwasy belong to that world, but she had to give in when she saw her daughter happy. Although, she had warned Bruce days before the wedding that if he hurt her, she would do something worse than death. Bruce replied that he would never intentionally hurt her, and that Superman would go for him first if he did.
Now, she was here, contemplating the great future of hers that she wanted to have with Bruce. It was one that she never thought she would have with a man, but Bruce had been the one who had made her think that could be possible. She already had a family in the league members, and now she was going to form another with Bruce, as well as having progressed as a hero and as a person. It was simply the best.
Her thoughts were interrupted by Alfred opening the door to her room.
"Miss Diana, it's time. Everyone is downstairs waiting for you to come down," he said.
She smiled, taking one last look at her sleeveless white wedding dress with some flowers on the shoulders and neckline. She had a transparent white veil on her head that would cover her face.
"I'm ready, Alfred," she said, going towards him and wrapping her arm with his.
Hit me like a ray of sun
Burning through my darkest night
You're the only one that I want
Think I'm addicted to your light

Bruce was standing at the altar, anxiously waiting for Diana to arrive. The wedding was taking place in the backyard of Wayne Manor where the beautiful green lawn was covered with chairs, rugs, tables, and the altar in white and blue.
In the few minutes it took, he saw how his friends, from Clark to Flash, even his sorceress friend Zatanna, were quite happy to be here. Despite this, he wished that his parents were here with him, but thanks to Alfred, he knew that they would be more than happy and proud that he protected Gotham City. They would be even more happy so seeing that he was about to get married to a wonderful woman.
Diana finally arrived, hand in hand with Alfred as they walked down the aisle. Since she began her relationship with Bruce, she developed a close relationship with Alfred, so close that she considered him a father figure that she could count on. He was another thing she was grateful for having met Bruce.
Once Alfred and Diana arrived, Bruce and Diana took each others' hands and began to stare at each other with all the love they felt for each other. Neither of them paid any attention to his father when he began to recite the routine wedding speech. It wasn't until he finally asked if they accepted each other to be each other's mate for the rest of their lives that they said "I accept" without hesitation.
I swore I'd never fall again
But this don't even feel like falling
Gravity can't forget
To pull me back to the ground again
Feels like I've been awakened
Every rule I had you break it
The risk that I'm taking
I'm never gonna shut you out
Once this was done, the father declared them husband and wife. Both wasted no time giving each other the kiss that sealed their eternal commitment. This was followed by the great sound of clapping, cheering this union. Even Hippolyta, joined in, clapping a little less enthusiastically, but was happy for her daughter.
Finally, Bruce and Diana had found the love they never thought they would find. It was made possible thanks to the right circumstances, and the right time for each other. They never forgot that halo that made them see that they were in front of the right person with whom they would spend the rest of their lives.
Pray it won't fade away, pray it won't fade away
Pray it won't fade away, pray it won't fade away
Pray it won't fade away, no, pray it won't fade away, no
Pray it won't fade away, pray it won't fade away
Fade away, fade away
Fade away
I can feel it
Oh, I can breathe it
I can see your
I can feel your
