Just a Little Obsessed
Arthur Dent loved Earth, it was enough to spend thirty minutes in one room with him to realize that. It wasn't anything he said, more the way he said it, like he was describing a close friend or the most adored lover, not a lump of dirt circling an average yellow star millions of miles away from where he currently was.
It was, to put it simply, a pure and overwhelming emotion that filled his whole being and, unfortunately for Arthur, made his sometimes too sappy and irksome for others to handle. It was quite lucky, both for everyone around and the Englishman, that one day he had found himself on the receiving end of the romantic interest of someone, that didn't mind his whining at all.
There were nights (and evenings, and mornings, and afternoons sometimes) he spent lying on the couch or in the bed, either cuddling or being cuddled by his lover, while telling stories about that little blue dot that was always on his mind.
Yes, there were many thing one could love about Earth. Shakespeare and Elvis, Lord of the Rings and strawberries, the deep blue seas and Taj Mahal, so many things… why then, for zark's sake, of all those things, Zaphod had to decided that Chuck Norris was what God had in mind when saying 'and Earth… the hell the universe needs you for?'
Arthur couldn't help to blame himself and, to be completely honest, it was his fault. Of course, he couldn't have foreseen that an old tape he had found one day while rummaging through one of the boxes with his (literally) earthly possessions would cause such problems. Yet, he remembered somewhat clearly, that after watching that first movie, when his flushed lover, practically bouncing, asked him if that guy had made more of those, he answered 'yes'.
Two weeks, nine movies and thirty eight episodes of 'Walker, Texas Ranger' later, it was pretty obvious to all, that he had made a huge mistake.
At the beginning Zaphod's childish enthusiasm amused his immensely and their sex life had benefited quite nicely when it came to the area of role-playing but even he had his limits. Zaphod dragging him to the bridge of Heart of Gold to see episode number thirty nine must have been it. To put it simply, he snapped.
Now, lying totally alone in the bed he usually shared with his lover, he begun to wonder, if perhaps calling Chuck 'an old useless fart' was taking it a bit too far. Sighing and throwing the covers aside he stood up, got dressed quickly and headed for the kitchen. Undoubtedly, he was the one that was right but he was also the more mature one (no, really!), so it was his duty to apologize.
Besides, Chuck wasn't that bad after all, ok, maybe a bit old but he still knew how to kick asses. If Zaphod wanted to lick the screen every time the guy bent to pick something up, he should be there for him, handing his tissues.
Maturity – who needed it!
