Olivia's POV
After showering I finished getting ready. Ugh I can't find the dress I'm looking for, I have to go home soon, I'm running out of clothes...also my father is probably gonna realize I've been gone longer than 24 hours. I decided on this tiny black party dress I bought a couple of months ago; completely useless until now. I popped my head into Abby's room wondering why she was still in her robe. I should have apologized but I think it would be rude to bring it up. I knock twice before just walking in.
"Abby, why aren't you ready?" I say, sitting on the edge of her bed.
"Olivia, do you actually want me to go because I think dinner is code for "let's go on a date." she answered sarcastically "I'll stay in tonight, and since you guys won I'll pay for dinner"
I can tell she's irritated, but who was pushing me to talk to guys.
"What about Jake?" her eyebrows furrowed.
"I have a feeling that Jake is giving Fitz the same speech. So...go and have fun." Abby said pushing me. I'm shocked that Abby didn't have a backup plan but then again I think she should rest...that hike took her strength. Even if there was a party I don't think she would go.
"Thanks, Abby, I'll make it up to you" I blew Abby a kiss as I headed out the door.
/
Fitz was downstairs leaning against a white Mercedes; Smiling like a Cheshire cat when she descended from the porch.
"I hope you're ready for dinner" he opened the car door allowing Olivia to get in.
"I still don't know where you're taking me," she said, smiling sweetly. Her dress is beautiful, Fitz thought but he didn't stare too long.
"It's a surprise so you'll just have to wait and see" he glanced over at her, quickly turning back to the road.
Olivia looked around as they pulled up to the restaurant. Fitz could tell she was kinda impressed but it's nothing she hasn't seen before. Fitz opens her door talking her hand as she steps out. She loops her arm around his and he leads them into the restaurant. Fitz looks to Olivia waiting for the host to seat them there's a soundless moment of the pair staring at each other; the host interrupts their moment asking for his name.
"Uh oh...table for Grant" he stammered, breaking his eyes away from Olivia.
Now, Fitz doesn't usually use his status especially when it comes to dating; his father takes care of that. Fitz's girlfriends are almost always set up by his father. This time is different...or at least Fitz hopes it will be. The host wasted no time seating the couple, leading them to a booth by the window with a view of the ocean. Olivia watches the waves wash onto shore, taking her seat, she smiles towards Fitz. He scoots into the booth snuggling up to her just like that day at the beach. The host leaves promising to send someone to get them started for the night.
"It's majestic isn't it?" Fitz whispers, Olivia turns around- meeting his eyes, holding his gaze. His eyes are breathtaking...neither of them can or want to look away the silence between them does nothing but pull them closer to one another. Olivia clears her throat agreeing with a simple nod. Her body is vibrating she wishes he would back up so the ache between her legs would pass. They haven't even kissed yet. Thank god...the waiter is here. He takes their drink orders, Giving them dinner menus. Olivia takes a little time looking over the menu after living in England she's not too well versed on what's good here. Fitz keeps his eyes fixed on her.
She appreciated his maturity and elegance, he wasn't some entitled brat like she expected, it was invigorating to be around someone who didn't constantly use the sliver spoon to get by. Olivia's father is successful and a political socialite but you would never see her using his status to push her career forward or to get out of trouble.
"Olivia, Do you know what you want?" He asks, she doesn't look too amused with the menu but Fitz knows exactly what she would like.
"I'm thinking about the duck- What about you?" glancing up from the menu, he was already looking at her, Her cheeks turned rosy red.
"You won't like the duck, let me order for you okay," Fitz said closing his menu.
"Okay,"
The waiter returned shortly, taking their order. Fitz ordered two cheeseburgers, Olivia giggled when the waiters face contorted, he wasn't expecting that order. Fitz also ordered a bottle of champagne and had him leave the bottle.
"How did you know I wanted a burger?" she turned to him, they were so close their noses were damn near touching.
"We hiked for almost three hours, and I wanted a burger I figured what could go wrong with a burger," he told her, watching a smile cover her face.
"so, Abby" This question was already answered by the fact the two were sitting in an expensive restaurant on a "Date"
"Really...our date was going so well" He exaggerated a groan
"This isn't a date" She lied, this was a date and she hoped it wouldn't be the last. They clicked and everything about being here with him...tonight just felt right in so many ways. Fitz lowered his head when she brought Abby up, it was wrong to deceive Abby but this was for the greater good he thought laughing to himself.
"It is...but what about Abby?" he countered, boldly.
"I thought you liked her" Olivia fully knew the answer she was feeling peckish and wanted him to admit it.
"I do, we're friends," he said, racking his fingers through his hair, letting his curls go; they bounced.
"And me" Olivia smirked sheepishly, moving her hair behind her right ear.
"I think you're beautiful and I wanna know you." It was the simplest statement and still, there was so much truth and genuinity behind his words.
Their food was served, both Olivia and Fitz enjoyed their meal, with some small talk. It seemed like every time Olivia went to sneak a peek at him...he was already looking at her. By the time their table was cleared the night progressed into them getting to know each other further, Fitz told Olivia some first-year college tales, and what his hopes and dreams are. He doesn't...at all have a good relationship with his father. From the stories, he tells big jerry has never been there for him or supported him in anything. After Fitz graduated, big jerry pushed and pushed for Fitz to go to an Ivy League school. Fitz just wanted to start small because he didn't want to be an undecided major but his father is a bully...so Fitz waited for each application deadline to pass. He lied to his father for weeks telling him that he was applying to schools until he received zero acceptance letters. That's the only reason Fitz is going to Northridge.
"Most embarrassing childhood story...spill" She leaned in resting her cheeks on her hands.
"Okay, but I want one too, deal"
"Deal."
"When I was thirteen I went to a pool party and my trunks came off when I was getting out of the pool. Your turn."
"That wasn't embarrassing." She tilted her head. That most definitely was embarrassing, or it would have been if the girl I was crushing on at the time didn't come and talk to him.
"You said and I quote 'embarrassing childhood story.' that was it...It's your turn now."
"Okay, so I never learned how to ride a bike" a bashful smile spread across her face. Raising his eyebrow, Fitz smirkED scolding her for telling a bad embarrassing story.
Did you not hear my story, I got out of the water with no trunks" he teased.
Olivia smacked his arm biting her lip, smiling as she shook her head.
"champagne?" Fitz asked as he poured himself a glass
"Won't they Card me or something?" She whispered, nervously.
"Say that a little louder and they might" he mocked pouring her a glass, holding his up "A toast...to our first date"
"To us" clinking their glasses together, drinking.
"Let's go I wanna take you somewhere" Fitz suggested, as he stood up from the table
"I should probably get back home, I'm supposed to leave tomorrow, before my dad notices I'm gone or worse Abby's notices his jet is gone."
"Are you coming back any time soon?"
"I'll be here in Washington until summer is over. And then I'll be off to college."
"Ok let's get you home."
The car ride was filled with laughter and high spirits. Fitz pulled up to aunt Viv's house.
"Why didn't you ever learn to ride a bike?" Fitz asked.
"You're gonna laugh" she deflected, it was kind of an embarrassing story, and it brought up old memories of her mother. She still thinks about how her mother will never see her become a lawyer or how she died before Olivia became a woman...figuring out the world blindly and without her guidance.
"I won't. I just wanna know," he promises, wiping the smile off his face.
"Because the bike was pink" Olivia hid behind her hands though she was smiling. Fitz struggled to keep a straight face wanting to keep his promise." Wait really?" he bit the inside of his cheeks to keep from laughing.
"I knew it" Olivia huffed folding her arms against her chest.
"No, I'm sorry- finish" he encouraged.
Giving him a stern look she continued "My favorite color was blue, but all the blue bikes had spiderman or some other superhero on it. I told my mom that I wanted a powder blue bike and she bought a pink one, so I vowed to never ride it and I didn't...it's still in our garage." She confessed, smiling foolishly.
"That was adorable" Fitz complimented, opening her door. Olivia stepped out...standing before him, In the same spot where their night began.
"Thanks I had fun, and that was the best burger I've ever had"
"I'm glad you had fun" Fitz reaches for her hand to pull her forward, Olivia stepped back smiling "we'll have to see how the next date goes," she said, quickly turning to make her way upstairs.
"I wanna spend a lot more time with her" Fitz thought to himself as he waved goodbye.
"Good morning" her father's voice sounded,
Times like these Olivia was grateful for a workaholic like her father. She made it home early morning just hours before he would be home. Abby went home to two angry parents...Olivia would have loved to stick around and help her out but that wouldn't do any good if she was also in the hot seat.
"Good morning daddy, how was work?" She rarely asks about his work at the Smithsonian mostly because she didn't care, but she just spent three days in California running around with a man she's not entirely sure her father would approve of.
"It's work...I'm sorry that I forgot about lunch I just get so side-tracked. But today I'm completely free and ready for some daddy-daughter time...what do say?" considering what she just did. Olivia wouldn't dare deny him this and she's hoping he'll let her go back.
"So how about lunch?" Olivia suggested to her father.
"Of course, so we'll have lunch, and you can tell me about school, Abby, and, whatever else you want sweetheart."
"Well I was wondering since it's summer could Abby, Quinn and I go to Santa Barbra?"
"We can discuss it at lunch, I wanna finish re-articulating Dilophosaurus," Eli said referring to his dinosaur. Damn, this man couldn't go second without mentioning some old bones. Olivia followed her father out of the kitchen, her mouth fell agape when her eyes fell upon a giant dinosaur standing in the middle of the walkway. Chuckling to herself, she wouldn't have missed this...if she hadn't snuck through the back door.
"Why is it here? I thought this was work"
"Well it is, but this one is gonna be displayed here for a little while so I can get more time to work on it, but when I'm done examining it, it'll be moved to the Smithsonian."
"Cool, I'll be upstairs"
She took refuge in her bedroom, sitting in the reading nook by her window, she called Abby first...checking to see how much trouble she's in or if her parents were going to call her father. That was the last thing Olivia needed, especially with Harvard on the line. When Abby didn't answer she called Quinn to see when or if she was still coming. Quinn used to live two houses down from Olivia growing up until her father moved to Ohio and took her with him after a nasty custody battle, Quinns mother still lives there...out of all the things she asked for in the divorce; the house-made the top of the list. luckily Quinn answered, they talked, Olivia caught Quinn up on their little vacation and told her they were planning to go back if Abby wasn't grounded for the rest of summer.
"Olivia" her father called up to her.
Olivia trotted to the top of the staircase "yes, dad?"
"Are you ready for lunch, sweetheart"
"I will be right there, I need a sweater" Olivia was glad to get out of the house and spend some time with her dad, she missed home but she also liked being in England. Since she didn't see her dad often he would always spoil her so she could get anything she wanted most of the time.
Olivia and her father went to her favorite cafe, not far from the white house called 'sweet home cafe." Located in the African-American history museum, Eli was famous for bringing Olivia here since she was a little girl, and every time she visited England. Her father has always been proud of his roots and his accomplishments, making sure Olivia never forgot that. This is why he's so adamant about her going to his comfort school.
"so, dad have you thought about my summer wish?" Oliva asks innocently.
"I have and I think you're mature enough to have that kind of responsibility, But how long did you want to spend there and what would you need from me?"
"Wait really?" Olivia perked up, beaming with joy. This is a huge ask and he said yes with no problem.
"yea, you've earned it"
"no longer than a month and a car," Olivia voiced returning to his previous questions.
"and Abby and Quinn's parents are okay with it too?"
"totally, we're actually gonna stay with Abby's aunt. You met her last year at that holiday party remember. Vivian."
" ah, yes she has that million-dollar business" Eli nodded, taking a swig of coffee.
"that's the one"
"When were you planning to go?"
"I can leave next week if you wanna hang out!"
"Oh, sweetheart I would love to but I have to work, you'll be back next month and we can do whatever you want!" he promised.
"Okay, so can I leave tomorrow?"
"I'll have that set up for you tonight and Olivia I'm sorry I've been so busy, but Tell me about school" Eli leaned in.
/
After lunch Olivia went home and called Fitz she had been wanting to call him for days but she didn't want to seem too eager, Fitz had been feeling the same way...he didn't want to feel like he was coming on too strong.
"Hello"
"You're calling me?"
"I'm calling, what are you doing tomorrow?"
"Uh, nothing what's up?"
"Well Abby and I are gonna be in Santa Barbra with our friend and I wanted to know if you'd be busy"
"Your coming to see me?" Fitz smirked.
"No, It's summer and it's warm in Santa Barbra" Olivia lied she planned the whole trip just so she could spend time with him.
"I have something to do but how about the next day"
"perfect" Olivia blushed, hanging up the phone.
Quinn landed a couple of hours later, Abby finally got out of the house. Her father couldn't keep her there for long anyway. He wasn't mad about the jet he was mad about the fact that she was illegally drinking and basically kidnapped the butler. Everything Abby's father told her was noise..she didn't listen to him before and wasn't gonna start now. After his speech about federal crimes and her mother's drunken nothings, Abby left meeting up with Olivia at Quinn's house. Quinn and Olivia were childhood friends and when Abby joined the group they all got really close. Out of the three Quinn and Abby were the wild ones and liked to party way too much but Olivia mellowed them out a bit. Olivia isn't against drinking but she doesn't like to get shitface...she knows her limit unlike those two. The trio is back together, Quinn didn't spend more than a minute in D.C before she was back on a plane going to Santa Barbra. Vivan picked them up from the airport, Abby was right the jet and the butler was better. Vivian was beautiful and successful she absolutely loved Olivia because of her bold opinions and her personality. She always welcomed the girls in her home at any time.
"I'm so happy you guys could be here especially to keep Abby out of trouble" she teased.
"no, thank you for letting us stay"
"yea, it's been too long, how's Derek" Quinn chimed in, smirking mischievously. A couple of summers ago Quinn and Derek had a brief fling.
"He's good, I just bought him a new house so he won't be bothering you girls while you're here" Viv affirmed. "oh Liv I almost forgot you have a guest waiting in the backyard"
"who is it?"
Abby looked through the glass patio door "oh, I think you'll recognize him" she rolled her eyes, pointing outside.
Olivia saw Fitz was standing there next to a powder blue bike, patiently waiting. She couldn't help herself she ran out with the biggest smile on her face as she walked up to him she eyed the powder blue bike in full skepticism. This is why he lied about having something to do.
"Omg, you didn't" she guffawed, staring at the bike.
"I did" Fitz smiled nodding. After dinner, Fitz searched for that bike. Turns out powder blue bikes are harder to find than he expected.
"I love it" She threw arms around him "But, you know I still don't know how to ride a bike?" Olivia explained, smiling.
"That's why I'm gonna teach you, are you ready?"
"Right now?" Olivia tilted her head, grinning.
"Yes, it's a beautiful day and I have the perfect place"
"Okay...oh..uh I was supposed to go to the mall with Abby and Quinn.
Just as she said that Quinn came outside "Liv you need to learn how to ride a bike you're too big for my handlebars" she taunted.
"Shut up" Olivia playfully rolled her eyes. "Fitz this is Quinn and Abby is in the house.
"Nice to meet you" Fitz greeted, Quinn gave a slight smile before heading back into the house.
"Okay well um...I need a sweater."
"Liv it's 95 degrees your gonna sweat, c'mon" Fitz held out his hand for Liv to take
Olivia took his hand and they left. Fitz brought her to his family home, his father gave it to him after he graduated. Big jerry was gonna sell it until Fitz begged him not to. It's the house he grew up in...all the memories of his mother were still tied to this home and Fitz didn't want to give them up. He hated how easy it was for Big jerry to throw it away. The house was huge so was the driveway and it's smooth enough for her to learn on and there's grass if she falls. Olivia's eyes lit up, "Fitz...you live here by yourself?" he nodded pulling the bike from his truck. "It was my father's grad gift to me I'll give you a tour if you want."
"I'll hold you to that" she teased.
Fitz held the bike while Olivia climbed on. She took a breath, Fitz could tell that she's nervous, He put his hand on the small of her back calming her a little. "Ok so put your feet on the pedals and try to balance yourself," he instructed. Following his instructions, she balanced slightly she quickly put her feet back on the ground. "ok do it again" and she did. after Olivia got the balancing part down; now she needed work on pedaling. "push forward." Fitz encouraged, he was still holding onto her waist he promised he wouldn't let her fall."Don't let me go" Olivia shuddered, taking her foot off the pedal, giving him a serious look.
"I won't, okay here put your foot back on the pedal and start pushing slowly okay"
Olivia nodded her head and following directions. Starting to pedal she was going slow at first...then she sped up a little causing Fitz to jog still holding her.
"Wait, Fitz, I'm doing it," her heart was beating so fast, she was actually doing it.
"You're doing it" he praised.
"Let go" Olivia wanted to try it without him because he was doing most of the balancing.
"No...you're wobbly"
"Fitz, I Can go faster if you let go"
"Okay" Fitz gave her an extra push and let go. She was actually doing it she was riding her dream bike.
"Look at you"
Olivia turned back around to heading towards Fitz fast.
"Fitz, I can't stop" she panicked.
"Use the break" Fitz called out to her...she was still heading towards him.
"Which one is the break" now she was a little scared.
Instead of jumping out of the way, Fitz stepped in front of her to block her from riding so she wouldn't fall.
"Fitz your gonna get hit..move" she shouted
"Stop pedaling and I'll catch you"
"I'll fall," Olivia thought he was crazy if he actually thought she was gonna let go. Fitz reached out and snatched her off the bike toppling over with her in his arms. They burst into laughter. "are you okay?" Olivia asked. She landed directly on him
"Yea are you, if I knew I was gonna be playing Superman I would have dressed for it." Fitz laughed. As they were getting up Fitz dusted the grass off his pants...Olivia was wearing a blue skort with grass stains now.
"Did you have fun?"
"Yea before I almost killed you" she looked up to him, her cheeks were red hot
Fitz walked over, picking up the bike that crashed not too far from where they fell.
"You hungry? I'm starving"
"What did you have in mind?" Olivia asked.
"I just want to remind you that I'm 20- so don't laugh"
"I won't laugh"
"let's go...I'll make you a PBJ"
Olivia smiled holding in a laugh.
"Okay, let's go"
Fitz gave her the 10 cent tour of the house and yard before settling in the kitchen making sandwiches and drinking lemonade. It was still hot out so they enjoyed their food by the pool, Olivia told Fitz a little more about her home life and boarding school. Fitz was learning new things about Olivia; like the fact that she hates the crust and prefers it to be cut off, Fitz rolls up his jeans up letting his feet dangle in the water next to Olivia's.
"I'm at Northridge taking classes that I have no interest in" Fitz began.
"Why?" Olivia Was confused.
"Because of my father, he wants me to be like him, carry the grant name to the White House" Fitz snorted at the idea of that.
"Why don't you tell him that you want to teach?"
"You remembered that?"
"Yea, you told me that on the hike"
"because I can't say no to my father, I've always only had him since my mother died. He's strict and what he says goes" Fitz turned away not wanting Liv to see him upset.
"I get it" Olivia patted his leg, he smiled. She is so sweet the slightest touch was comforting to him. "You should take some teaching classes on the side if you really want that" she suggested.
Fitz moved closer to her looking into her deep brown eyes. She stared back at him without a word.
"Can I kiss you?" Fitz asked considerately.
"If you kiss me can I kiss you back" Her eyes sparkled as a smile lit up her face.
His lips collided with hers first with a peck...he felt it was okay to go deeper he grabbed her and kissed her passionately. The only thing she could think was that she didn't want this to end. Fitz had attempted to end the kiss but she pulled him back snaking her hand around the back of his head to pull him closer to her lips. Olivia pulled out of the kiss as Fitz caressed her thigh.
" I'm sorry- I wasn't trying to-" Olivia cut him off before he could finish.
"I needed air" Breathing heavily, she smiled at him. "Does my age matter to you?" Olivia was really asking if he liked her or did he want what every guy wanted from her.
"No...does mine. I don't wanna be inappropriate with you" Fitz was sincere he really liked Olivia and he wanted to respect her.
Olivia shook her head "no...this was a really good PBJ"
Fitz smiled taking another bite.
