A/N: I don't own the Teen Titans. The pace for this story is set at "Meandering", meaning that updates will be… well, probably at least a week apart, perhaps longer if I can talk one of my esteemed associates, Miss Fire or Lovely White Violets, into beta-ing for me.

I want to write this like a villanelle, which means since I'm not 100 sure where it's going, I might have to go back and make some revisions later. If you like it, let me know, cause that's definitely going to impact whether or not I finish this project.

Prologue:

A dark hooded figure stalked into the McBurger and ordered a small fries and an iced tea. No one paid much attention as she found a table in the corner, away from the giggling teenagers and the high school boys throwing food at each other. She perched on one of the brightly colored plastic seats and took a sip of her iced tea before grimacing. She nibbled on a fry, looking out from her dark purple hood at the girls around her.

It's a steady kind of loneliness, she thought, that finally falls on you when you look around and the dust settles and you realize that everyone, everyone is gone. She threw the rest of the fry in her mouth.

"Hey, watch it!" one of the high school boys shouted. Across the room, a large soda soared perilously near to the solitary figure, splattering harmlessly against the wall. She shot the teenagers a glare but it didn't have her usual fear-inspiring edge.

She sighed as they quietly returned to their own conversation. I'm going soft, aren't I?

It was all getting to her, and she knew it. It was the little things like visiting a familiar place alone and remembering that the last time you were there, you were laughing and with friends. It's the quiet solitude that envelops you when you come to terms with the fact that you chose this life. She popped another French fry into her mouth and leaned back. And that was what it came down to. She had chosen this, and now she had to deal with it.

She rested her head against her hand. She could see everything so vividly; the emotions were still roiling through her mind. Why had she let this happen? Was this the way it really had to be? Maybe not. She rested her hand on her hooded forehead, fingering the seal on her forehead. But we all make choices in life. And then we deal with the consequences.
