The Afternoon Streets
As I sit here listening to your child like tone
I feel a sense of safety and warmth
The evening sky is about to set in
Children run about the street corners playing tag
While others sit on the front porch of their cozy home
A warm summer storm has just blown over
And the streets feel of the dense earth being tossed around
Chimes of the clock tower are heard in the far off distance
Signaling the approach of a rose and orange sun going away
And mothers call off the kids to eat
Toys are left behind, likely to be used again the next day
The streets start to empty out
And the shadows take their place for the night
Awaiting the spirits to come in and eat
The passing of their souls through me is unspeakable
The only thing I can do is watch
For I am a shadow too, hopping from person to person
Though I can not live without the sun
When the night arrives I die but shall be reborn
I write this not for sympathy
But for the good of mankind
Understand that you all belong here
Just as these children disappear
You will replace them
Each one contributing a beautiful note in their will
Together is an unforgettable song
Surely you recognize it
I've left my part behind
Go find yours and together we will leave behind a legacy
But for the time it is another day
In the afternoon streets
