Some people called him a player, a cheat and some other things he would prefer to forget. He had never actually cheated on a girl since high school, although he had to admit he flirted just a little bit, o.k. he thought to himself, a hell of a lot.

The person, who he seemed to be flirting with almost constantly, was staring straight at him. He knew though that she was not paying attention to him, and so would not notice him staring at her. He should really be listening to the debrief, but Rodney and Carson had started arguing about science and ethics. Somehow they affected the mission, to the planet of people who had advanced medical equipment.

Carson and Rodney were forced to compromise when Weir decided she had enough and stepped in. Shepherd looked at her thankfully. The rest of his team left, the mission wasn't due for a couple of hours. He followed her back to her office and lounged in one of the chairs.

"What were you thinking about in there?"

Weir looked up and frowned, "when, in the meeting"

"Yep, you were staring straight at me while the kids argued"

Weir went red and quickly looked down to hide it. When she had composed herself she looked at him, "the kids? Coming from you?" She raised one eyebrow, but there was that lovely amused smile, that john just couldn't get enough of. John did his best sulky – feel sorry for me face. She rewarded him with another grin.

"So come Elizabeth, pray do tell what you were thinking about"

"I can't remember, it was nothing important" Elizabeth's cheeks became a little more pink then usual and she was unable to look John in the eye.

"If you can't remember why do you go red when I ask?" John managed to sound fairly innocent when he asked, but Elizabeth knew him too well to be fooled. She was desperately trying to evade his question, but she knew the 'loads of work' remark would not save her.

Elizabeth bit the bullet, "Men"

"Men?"

"Yes the opposite to women. Men"

"I am a man, therefore I know what a man is" he paused, " And don't you dare comment Elizabeth!"

"Would I?" Elizabeth asked sweetly.

They sat in comfortable silence while Weir organised her paperwork. John interrupted the silence, "Was there a particular man you were thinking about", he was sincerely interested in the answer, and was hoping it might be one particular good looking man, with a sense of humour, and lovely scruffy, but cool hair.

Once again Weir went red, and refused to look at him, "I was just thinking that, Simon" the rest of the information was mumbled leaving John disappointed.

"You still love him?"

"No, no I don't think I do!"

"Then…"

"I was comparing him to you" As soon as the words were out of her mouth, she went bright red and wished the ground would swallow her up. She was still looking at the floor hopefully when John replied with a huge grin.

"Oh really! I hope I won. In fact why don't we go to 'our' balcony and talk things over" He grinned evilly and added "or we could do back to my room" It was now his turn to stare at the floor, that was pushing it to far, and he knew it.

Elizabeth stood up, and tugged her top down, as she always did when she was nervous. "Lt. Col., Balcony now!"

John stood up so fast he nearly fell down, "Yes mam!"

They walked side by side in silence till they reached the balcony. Once the doors closed behind them, Elizabeth wrapped her arms around john's neck, and kissed him passionately. John's arms immediately went round her back ad pulled her even closer and tighter. When Elizabeth pulled back, her eyes were twinkling – that was the only way John could describe it. She grinned and said, "Well I know now!" He looked at her confused, "What?" "You're the better kisser" John grinned and pulled her in for another kiss.
