Disclaimer: I don't own Avengers or any other Marvel characters. I only own my OCs.
A/N: Alright this is the one-shot that I've been wanting to share with you guys. I liked how it turned out. In fact I like this one-shot so much that I might even include it when Infinite heads into Avengers: Infinity War. I just love the interactions between Tony and Peter and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Having Grace mentioned just makes me excited for when she does meet the Guardians of the Galaxy later on in Infinite.
Avengers: Infinity War
Your girlfriend has better taste in movies and music than you
"Alright, I have a plan." Tony began telling Peter and the Guardians of the Galaxy members that were there. Strange was still doing his air meditating pose, so Tony would inform him personally once he was done.
He started speaking again once the others were near enough. "Or at least the beginnings of one. It's pretty simple. We draw him in, pin him down, get what we need. Definitely don't want to dance with this guy. We just want the gauntlet." The billionaire was then interrupted by the sound of someone yawning. He quickly turned his head and saw that it was Drax who was doing that. Annoyance flashed in his dark brown eyes.
"Are you yawning?" Tony questioned in disbelief. "In the middle of this, while I'm breaking it down? Huh? Did you hear what I said?" Ever since meeting these Guardians of the Galaxy people (or should he say aliens), they'd been really testing his patience. Which was a bit unusual, having his patience tested, but these were crucial times.
Drax didn't look the least bit bothered at his loud voice. He looked at Tony with nonchalance. "I stopped listening after you said, we need a plan."
Tony let out a scoff. "Okay. Mr. Clean is on his own page." He announced, pointing to Drax before he faced Quill again.
"See, 'not winging it' isn't really what they do." Quill simply informed Tony.
Peter just had to chime into the conversation now. "Uh, what exactly is it that they do?" He asked, gesturing to where Drax and Mantis were standing.
Mantis stood tall as she gave the young boy a proud look. "Kick names, take ass."
Drax found her words to be inspiring, unknown of the wrong way the words were said. "Yeah, that's right."
Tony and Peter right away noticed though. Quill noticed too but he wasn't at all shocked or bothered by the foolishness that was happening. He'd already spent way too much time with the Guardians, unlike Tony and Peter. The whole thing to them was just entirely different. If not for the threat of Thanos, maybe one of them would have laughed, or even cracked a smile. But neither Avenger did that.
Peter turned to look at Mr. Stark who had remained silent and still. When he got a good look at him, Peter saw the far away look on the older man's face. However, that wasn't what worried Peter. It was actually the silence that got to him. Mr. Stark was not a silent person. He always had something to say. In fact, the last time Mr. Stark had been this quiet was when Grace and Peter told him they were dating.
Yeah...that had been awkward. Mainly because of Mr. Stark's silence and the intense stare he'd given him. Peter had never been more afraid of Mr. Stark than at that moment. Peter began to feel nervous, having thought about all that, but he relaxed a bit when he finally heard Mr. Stark release a sigh.
"Alright, just get over here, please." Tony exasperatedly asked the Guardians to come even closer. "Mr. Lord, can you get your folks to circle up?"
Quill released a halfhearted grin at the formality. "Mr. Lord, Star Lord is fine." He then gestured for Drax and Mantis to come closer, which they did.
"We gotta coalesce." Tony earnestly started telling them. "Cause if all we come at him with is a plucky attitude―"
This time it was Quill who was scoffed. "Dude." He said, making Tony stare at him intently. "Don't call us plucky. We don't know what it means." He saw the frown that was growing on Tony's face when he was interrupted. Quill kept talking though. "Alright, we're optimistic, yes. I like your plan. Except...it sucks. So let me do the plan...and that way it might be really good."
"Tell him about the dance-off that saved the universe." Drax casually brought up.
Tony furrowed his eyebrows. "What dance-off?" Surely they had to be joking...right?
"It's nothing." Quill slightly shook his head, not wanting to go into details about that.
Peter was just as intrigued and had to comment on it. "Like in Footloose, the movie?"
Quill's eyes immediately lit up at having someone other than himself bring up Footloose. A smile almost escaped him when he started speaking again. "Exactly like Footloose!" He excitedly told Peter. "Is it still the greatest movie in history?"
"It never was." Peter answered him, bewildered. His voice softened and a small smile appeared with what he said next. "But Grace thinks it's a classic."
"Who's Grace?" Quill eagerly inquired, wanting to know who else loved Footloose as much as him. If someone thought Footloose was a classic then surely they had to be on the good side. If not, then they at least had good taste in movies.
"My girlfriend."
"My daughter."
The Guardians of the Galaxy that were there looked between Tony and Peter because they both ended up speaking at the same time.
Tony sent Peter a narrowed look which only had the teen responding with a sheepish grin and a shrug. It wasn't like Peter was lying when he said that. Grace really was his girlfriend. His heart soared at just the thought of that. Even after being together for almost a year now it still felt surreal that they were actually dating. That she chose him to be with.
"Wait a second." Quill shook his head from the randomness that was happening. He wasn't fighting it though. He pointed to Peter and then at Tony. "His girlfriend is your daughter?"
Tony sighed but nodded his head.
Quill let out an awkward sounding whistle. "Well...that's something then. " He looked at Peter when he said this. "At least she has good taste in movies. Which means her music taste must be good too."
"It is." Peter happily nodded his head. "She listens to Stevie Nicks and David Bowie. She's also a huge fan of Led Zeppelin and AC/DC."
"You can never tell them apart." Tony added with an amused tone. It really was funny (and also kind of sad) how Peter couldn't tell apart a Led Zeppelin song from an AC/DC song. Grace always had a laugh with him whenever they played music in the lab and Peter was there with them.
A blush formed on Peter's cheeks at being called out for having trouble at not being able to tell classic rock songs apart "Well, it's not like they're my favorite bands to listen to." He lamely grumbled.
Quill scrunched up his nose. "Your girlfriend has better taste than you then. In both movies and music."
"You can't just say that!" Peter protested Quill with a frown.
"He just did." Drax evenly said as Mantis nodded her head.
Peter spared them a look before looking at Quill again. "I mean, you can't say that because you don't even know what I do like."
"Doesn't matter, dude." Quill stubbornly replied. "I can already tell you have bad movie and music taste."
Okay, this was going way too far from what they originally needed to discuss. Tony shook his head. "Alright, enough of whatever this is. No more encouragement." He told Peter with a serious voice as he brought him to the side. "We're getting no help from Flash Gordon here."
Quill followed Tony's path. "Flash Gordon. By the way, that's a compliment." He then let out a tiny grin thinking he had a witty response coming. "Don't forget, I'm half human. So that fifty percent of me that's stupid...that's hundred percent you."
Tony tried his best to not roll his eyes at Quill but he failed miserably. "Your math is blowing my mind."
Peter then had to listen to Tony and Quill bicker back and forth as Drax and Mantis watched with interest. As this occurred, Peter once again thought about Grace. Based on the conversation he just had with Quill, Peter had a feeling that if Quill and Grace were to ever meet, they would get along real well.
Even despite Quill saying he had bad taste in movies and music that didn't mean Peter didn't like him. Mr. Stark probably didn't like Quill but that most likely had to do with extra stress he had because of what needed to be done.
Anyways, Peter hoped that was the case, about Grace and Quill properly meeting each other. Cause then that would mean all of them would get out of here...and Peter did promise Grace that he'd return. She was expecting him to come back home, and he didn't want to disappoint her.
