THIS IS A YGO/Pokémon CROSSOVER. ALSO, I AM STILL ON VACATION.
As Seto Kaiba wandered the darkness, he had time to think while he waited for the Midget and his cheering squad to 'save' him.
One of the things that kept bothering him was the lack of loyalty he had. Out of all the people he knew, the only one he had ever been able to trust was Mokuba, and he never realistically expected his baby brother to back him up.
He barely trusted Yugi to help, mostly because of how naïve the idiot was and the fact he had recently been the victim of bullying until he completed that silly puzzle around his neck.
Kaiba had no idea how he could find anyone he could trust. A small part of him wished that he had someone, anyone, that he could rely on, but with the way the world was, that was likely a pipe dream at best. Most people could be influenced by greed, and only a relative few like Yugi were too nice to be persuaded by cold hard cash...and unfortunately for Kaiba, those with that sort of personality were usually few and far between, and would be unlikely to help him regardless because of his cold personality.
So he was at a crossroads.
'Just once I wish that I had a friend I could rely on. One I knew would never betray me. Not like that would ever happen in my lifetime...' thought Kaiba.
Across the sea of time and space, a pink, long-tailed kitten-like Pokémon heard his wish, and using it's psychic-powers read his past. It was sad that such a child had been forced to grow up far to fast and become so hard in his heart in the doing. But there was hope, and that was in his younger brother, who was still a child.
"Mew~!"
The tiny pink Pokémon flew off to Arceus-sama to make a request.
Mokuba was bored. Sure the unimaginable horrors around him were scary, but it got boring after a while. That was when he saw a pink light appear before him.
Mokuba recognized it instantly, as he was a huge fan of the Pokémon games. He had even convinced his brother to host card tournaments.
"Sweet, a Mew! Wait, you guys are real?"
Mew giggled and floated around cutely.
"How'd you get in such a creepy place Mew?"
"Mew can go wherever he pleases, so long as I allow it. As it is, I have a proposition for you, young Mokuba Kaiba," said a voice.
"Who's there?"
Arceus appeared, and Mokuba stared.
"Which Gen are you?"
Arceus chuckled.
"I believe Mewtwo has said that I will be what you humans refer to as a Gen Five. I am Arceus, the Pokémon who first came to be. Just as Mew is the Great Ancestor, I am considered a Pokémon god, because I existed first," explained Arceus.
"Ah...that explains it. They only have up to Gen Three here. So what did you want to ask?"
"How would you and your brother like to be Pokémon trainers? Mew has seen him and wishes to grant his wish, as it were."
"Count me in! Knowing Seto, he'll agree to it to, if only to keep me out of trouble. Chances are he'll top Lance as the best Dragon-type trainer!"
"Very well. Let's go find your brother, shall we?"
Seto Kaiba didn't know what to think when something slammed into him, followed by a pink ball of light.
His mind reoriented itself when he realized that the thing that slammed into him was his little brother, and that the pink light was one of those creatures Mokuba loved to catch in his game so much.
"Mokuba, what's going on?"
"They said they can get us out of here!" said Mokuba, not adding the wish part, or the fact he would de-age at least four or five years.
"What's the catch?"
"No catch, at least not one you'll really care about. You attracted Mew's attention, and he brought the matter to me. So long as you don't do anything that would be considered evil by the world's standards, you can stay out as long as you like and return when you want."
Arceus neglected to add that when they returned, it would be five minutes before they got their bodies back, and that they would be bringing whatever Pokémon they had on them as well. They would need such loyal companions in the trials ahead.
"Will we be together?"
"Of course. It's not unusual for people to wait to go with a younger sibling," said Arceus.
"Fine. But only because I know Mokuba would never let me live it down if I didn't at least give it a try."
Mokuba felt like doing a happy dance. He got to play his games for real! A bright flare of light, and the two humans were gone.
"Mew, mew mew!"
"You want to watch his reaction to the fact he's now eleven?" said Arceus.
"Mew~!"
Arceus laughed, knowing it would be amusing to see.
The amount of cursing Kaiba wanted to unleash when he realized what the catch was had the two legendaries laughing someplace safe from his wrath. They did make up for the surprise by leaving two eggs for the kiddies to find.
"Dibs on the one with the triangles," said Mokuba immediately, recognizing it from the show.
"Fine, I'll take the white and pale blue one."
"Now we just have to find a Pokémon Professor for a Pokédex!" said Mokuba excitedly.
"Since you've played these games so much, you can be the guide. I'll just back you up," said Kaiba. This was the first time that his brother had ever been on equal ground with him, so he wanted to enjoy it.
Mokuba raced up to the nearest lab and knocked on the door. They heard someone cry out in surprise as the unmistakeable sound of books crashed down on someone behind the door. Mokuba giggled and Seto tried not to smirk.
Already his day was looking better.
"Come in! Just watch your step!" shouted the voice of an older man.
Mokuba opened the door, and inside was a complete mess. Books everywhere, and the sound of Pokémon on the other side of the open window. Seto was more interested in the technology than he was in the Pokémon though.
"What can I do for you?" asked the older man wearing the usual outfit of a Pokémon Professor (namely the labcoat).
"My big brother and I were looking to start our Pokémon journey. He decided to wait until we could both go," said Mokuba.
"Well I have plenty to choose from! Some of my colleagues sent me a few of their spare Pokémon, since we had a larger number than normal come in for their firsts," said the Professor.
"What's your name?" asked Seto.
"Where are my manners! My name is Professor Ryusuke. What are yours?"
"Mokuba and Seto Kaiba," said Mokuba proudly.
The Professor took out the standard Pokédex, though they had odd colorings. One was a pale white, the other was a pale purple. Seeing Mokuba's surprised look he explained.
"Two children from a rich family asked for custom colors, but when their parents learned that the standard one only came with a single region at a time, they ordered new ones after these were finished. So I got them, and for some reason no one wanted them since the coloring is different."
"I'll take the purple one," offered Mokuba. Which left his brother the white one.
"Just type your names and information. They act as ID anywhere in the world, so don't lose them," said Professor Ryusuke.
Once they were done with that, he held them up and had their pictures taken. The Pokédex was set to retake the picture once a year, specifically on their birthday to show any changes since the original. And all the pictures were saved, so if someone tried to claim it as theirs after stealing it, all the officers would have to do would be to look at the pictures since the first one taken to prove it.
This was a security measure to insure that the children set out at ten didn't have to carry papers or renew their ID. Not that they knew of that, or the 'factory reset' function inside each Pokédex.
"Now that you have your ID, you can pick your Pokémon."
Mokuba immediately picks up a Totodile, who was just as energetic as he was. Seto had trouble deciding, until his brother mentioned Charmander evolved into his larger form Charizard, which was a Dragon-type Pokémon. It was a no brainer after that.
The two left the lab sometime before noon, and immediately head to the nearest city.
At some point Seto realizes that they are broke, and when he made a point of looking through his pockets, he finds a credit card with his name on it and a book of Pokémon types among other things. Something every basic trainer should know, and Mokuba already does having beaten and unlocked everything in every single Pokémon game that had been sold to date.
Still, at least he didn't have to worry about the rather expensive tool kit he had just bought to see inside his new Pokédex, despite the clear amusement of his younger brother who thought it was funny his older brother had been dying to take his new dictionary apart.
At the very least the near charring of his head convinced Seto that no, this wasn't an elaborate dream. Charmander really didn't like being called an overgrown lizard after he ate Seto's sandwich when he wasn't looking. Mokuba and his new Totodile were both laughing at the two of them, as it looked to be an ongoing battle of wills.
He only wished he had a camera...and then spotted a store that sold good quality ones. Fortunately he had a credit card too, so he bought a brand new one with plenty of memory and got very good at taking a snap photo of his brother arguing with his new Charmander, who Mokuba had decided to call Rex.
Seto Kaiba was not amused. At first he was willing to deal with this by letting Mokuba have his fun.
Then he got an overgrown lizard with fire breath that his little brother insisted on calling Rex for some reason, and things took a turn to the annoying. The first time Rex tried to turn him into charcoal, they got into a staring contest that lasted for an hour and had his brother snickering just as long.
The fifth time lead to an argument, one-sided of course, and his brother on the floor laughing his butt off.
The tenth time was how long it took for him to realize with growing horror that the overgrown salamander was growing on him like the worst sort of fungus.
It took Mokuba to point out that if he wasn't so stubborn, then he would have gotten rid of the damn lizard after he caught that Pidgey. But Mokuba knew his brother too well. This wasn't just a trainer having trouble bonding with his Pokémon...this was a battle of wills between a dragon-otaku and his ornery Pokémon who would eventually become a dragon.
And Seto Kaiba would never let something like a clash of personalities beat him.
Which was something an amused Mokuba explained to a worried Professor Ryusuke who had heard about the difficulty Seto was having with Charmander and feared the boy would give it up.
He didn't know Seto Kaiba didn't give up, he kept going until he either won or the other side gave up hope...and this was one battle of wills he was very determined to win.
The fact his baby brother was getting a lot of blackmail material for later was an unpleasant consequence.
They were about to go to their third gym (having already beaten the Normal, Fire and Grass type gyms) when there was a light from Mokuba's bag. He quickly removed the top flap revealing his Pokémon egg (and Seto turned red hearing his little brother explain where the eggs came from, as he had never actually played Pokémon before) which was glowing.
An hour into the glow fest, the top of the egg started to crack. About a quarter of the top broke away to reveal... three traingles and two tiny eyes. A small spot on either side of the egg, and two on the bottom, also broke apart to reveal tiny hands and feet.
"Toge!"
"What is that?" asked Seto.
"Togepi. The happiness Pokémon. Rumor says that anyone who can make a sleeping Togepi stand up and dance will have good luck," said Mokuba.
"And what about my egg?" asked Seto. His moved, occasionally, but that was it.
"I have an idea about yours, but I want to wait for it to hatch to be sure," said Mokuba.
Out of all the Pokémon, Togepi fit him best. And the only one that would ever fit his brother was a legendary type, though according to the show it did have eggs and there was more than one.
He couldn't wait to see his brother's reaction to the Pokémon equivalent of a Blue Eyes. He was barely able to get Rex to obey him, and that only because some idiot had tried to kidnap his brother and he had taken it into his own hands instead of going to the cops.
That was probably the only reason Rex would listen to him, as it seemed to enjoy the little 'arguments' Seto had with it.
"Lord Arceus, are we sure letting a child such as Kaiba have a Pokémon as rare as that was a good idea?" asked a voice. It was one of those who didn't like humans much.
"It will be fine. Every child deserves to have a childhood, and his was taken too early in order to protect his brother. Besides, despite his disagreement with his Pokémon, he has yet to release it into the wild. There is hope."
"That seems to mostly stem from his stubbornness," countered another.
"Yet he has never abused them. For that reason alone I have allowed him to have that egg. And I'm surprised you haven't noticed that he has been loosening up a bit."
Which was true. Seto Kaiba's arguments with Rex were mostly out of stubbornness, and his personality seemed to be loosening up around the edges. Running a multi-billion dollar company was hard, and this was the first time he could act himself without worrying about his reputation.
He was already benefiting from losing a few years, and this was the longest he had spent around his younger brother since becoming head of Kaiba Corp.
Only time would tell if this change would remain once he returned to his own world.
