The Sailor Scouts had been given word that one of the Dark Generals wanted out. Apparently his true memories had come crashing back to him, and he didn't want to fight his prince anymore.
Each of them went, and unseen by them, Sailor N was nearby. True to her word, Luna had remembered Temperance and had only nothing but bad things to say about her. Artemis had remained neutral, surprisingly enough.
Serena seemed shocked to learn that the Princess even had a sister that she completely ignored. Even if she got into fights with her brother, she still cared about him.
While the girls were held up by the Dark Generals, Nemesis was busy attaching a port key that would lead their former enemy to her house...which was under a fidelius charm, meaning they wouldn't be able to find him. Beside her, Haruka was keeping eye for the other Dark Generals, who were more interested in Sailor Moon than this mystery duo. The fact they were wearing shorts and shirts rather than the sailor fuku that the other group had on, only made the chances that he would associate the two with the other girls.
"Done," hissed Nemesis. A simple cap hid her tiara, and throwing a shirt on after the transformation worked wonders to hiding the fact she was a sailor senshi from the enemy.
Why they never thought of throwing clothes over their uniforms to avoid embarrassment she would never understand. She always carried a spare outfit because of her parkour hobby.
"What do I do?"
"Say 'Sanctuary' for it to activate. Trust me, they won't find you at my house unless I give them the location directly."
Melody had been pleased to find out that the vacation home happened to be near her new school, and that the oni knew how to cast the charm. She originally offered to let Haruka and Michiru live with her, but they declined saying that Michiru had a house of her own that they lived in but didn't except on holidays.
About the only person she shared the house with was her baby sister (as she liked to call the girl) Hotaru, who happened to be the daughter of the Academy owner.
(What she didn't know was that the being inside the girl realized Melody had a great amount of power and wanted to steal it, hence why she went along with it.)
"Sanctuary."
Neprhite was whisked away by the portkey and safely deposited in the panic room directly under the basement. Something only accessible to Melody as she was the one to personally cast the wards. She did leave some books and a mini-fridge down there though.
Sailor Moon managed to get to where Nephrite was, the first thing she saw was Sailor N and a mystery boy.
"What happened to..."
"Safe. I, unlike you, have common sense."
She sensed the generals growing far too interested in her and Haruka.
"Grow up or learn how to fight Moon girl!" she called out, and the two ran off.
"Ready Rena?" asked Haruka.
"Ready!" said Melody.
Haruka struck with the wooden blade, and Melody reacted. She found out Haruka once was a Kendo champion before she fell in love with racing.
She still kept up with the basic exercises.
Melody asked for help when she found out, and Haruka agreed to it. According to her Melody had the build for the style.
Michiru was going over their homework for them, since they had already finished it early. When asked by Haruka why she was so friendly with Melody (who they called Rena as a nickname thanks to her cover as Sirena Black), Michiru said that it was like having a little sister to play with.
Hotaru tended to come visit whenever Melody was around.
"How long have they been going at it?" asked Hotaru.
"About ten minutes give or take."
"Hotaru-chan! Come to play?" asked Melody, dodging Haruka's bokken.
"Perhaps when you're done with Haruka-san," said Hotaru amused.
"I got some new books on the table. Feel free to read one!" said Melody.
Hotaru grinned.
"Thanks nee-chan!" said Hotaru.
Hotaru, as it turned out, had a very useful healing ability, so Melody kept an eye out for good healing books. Hotaru had a small library being created thanks to her.
"Yield!" said Haruka, holding the bokken at Melody's neck.
"This was fun, Haruka-nee," said Melody.
"You're a good fighter. Better than most of the idiots I used to face in tournaments."
"Most of them had probably never been forced to fight for their lives every year. The last time I held a real sword, I got this because I didn't know what I was doing," said Melody, her hand over the wound from the basilisk fang.
"Enough depressing talk. What do you plan to do for tomorrow?" asked Haruka.
"Reading outside, since it's supposed to be nice," said Melody.
"Rena-chan, you've stayed at home every time we've had a day off. Why don't you ever go out and have some fun?" asked Michiru.
"Too dangerous," said Melody, thinking of the Dark Generals and the wizards still out looking for her.
She had learned how to cast the fidelius charm to hide her identity...and those she cared about. At this point Haruka, Michiru, Nephrite and Hotaru were all under her charm to protect them and herself.
Nephrite was currently under an assumed name, since the other Generals would be looking for his energy signature instead of him. A dye-job here, some contacts there, and they couldn't find him unless he walked up and told them where he was.
Haruka waited until Melody left the room.
"I think we need to hijack her and do something fun tomorrow," said Haruka.
"I agree. It's not healthy to stay in all day and never go out," said Michiru.
"Time to put your allowance to good work," said Haruka grinning.
"LET ME GO!" shrieked Melody, putting up one hell of a fight. Someone had grabbed her from behind and had thrown a bag on her head.
"Simmer down Rena-chan," said an amused voice.
"Haruka-nee?"
Someone pulled the bag off her head and she realized it was Michiru who was grinning.
"Uh, what's going on?" asked Melody, confused beyond reason.
"We're kidnapping you in the name of fun," said Haruka.
"What?"
"Well, since you insist on spending all your free time reading, we've decided to kidnap you for a bit of shopping and fun," said Michiru.
"Ah. What are your terms?" said Melody grinning.
"No bookstores or attempts to escape," said Haruka.
Melody grinned. This was going to be fun! She had never been shopping with friends before, at least not outside of buying new school supplies.
"What about this outfit Rena-chan?" asked Michiru.
It was a black outfit that really left little to the imagination. The skirt had a roped belt that ended with a dangling silver crescent moon. There was even a choker that went with it, also with a sideways silver crescent moon.
"...Is it strange that someone as old fashioned as me loves that outfit?" she asked after a moment. Sure it went against her usual style, but something about it just called to her.
Michiru grinned. It was long past due to update Melody's wardrobe...most of her outfits were far too boring for a girl her age!
Once it was paid for Michiru managed to get Melody to change into it, as she was wearing some old sweats and a shirt that was in desperate need of replacement. She innocently said she didn't know where the outfit went.
"Next stop, the hair salon!" said Michiru. Haruka was currently getting some things for later, specifically movie tickets.
It took two hours before they left, and there was a marked improvement in Melody's look. Before her hair was a veritable bird's nest, and it spiked everywhere. Now it was flat and silky, and she had a list of things to buy in order to keep it that way.
Their final stop before the movie (Melody immediately voted on an 'Action' flick, despite Michiru's subtle hinting towards a romantic comedy) was an optometrist.
Melody walked out of that office with new contacts that turned her green eyes a fetching shade of blue.
All in all, it was a rather fun day.
That didn't mean she forgot about them kidnapping her...she turned both of their hair pink.
"What the hell?" said Melody.
"What's up?" asked Haruka.
"Notice anyone missing?"
"...They're two senshi short of a full basket," said Haruka after a moment. They made a point of making it to the senshi battles, as Melody had noticed a strange pattern of attacks.
Hence why they usually found a spot to watch and critique the Sailor Senshi. So far they were not impressed at all.
At least Melody trained with her powers.
Finally Venus and Mars made it to the battle, but it was still a one-sided fight.
"I can't take much more of this..." said Melody.
The Sailor Senshi were so bad it was painful to watch.
"So have you made any success with that side project of yours?"
"I have. How about we show these girls how they are supposed to fight monsters instead of seeing them stumble along?" asked Melody with a smirk. It wasn't a very nice thing to see.
"What are our code names?"
"I already gave them mine...as far as they know, I'm Sailor N. What about you?"
"How about Sailor U?"
"U?"
"Uranus. For some reason I always liked that planet," said Haruka with a shrug.
"Considering what you get up to with Michiru-nee, it's no wonder," said Melody dryly.
Haruka had the decency to blush at the reminder. Melody had once walked in on them, but hadn't said a word. She just blinked, then closed the door and immediately went to do something to purge the memory.
Michiru was embarrassed about the whole thing for a week before Melody confronted her about it, saying it wasn't her business to care, but to please a least text her to avoid the house next time they wanted some privacy.
Considering she could have been a lot worse after seeing that in person, Haruka chalked it up as a victory.
They did make a point to ward the room to prevent Hotaru from coming in on them after that though.
Nephrite had his own apartment, but kept in contact in order to assure them that he was still alive.
"Girls, we have a serious problem," said Luna.
"What is it Luna?" asked Ami.
"Someone has been getting to the youma before us and stopping them with better results," said Luna solemnly.
"Isn't that a good thing though?" asked Rei.
"Not after the messages were seen," said Artemis.
"What messages?" asked Ami.
"Senshi, work on your skills before you get yourselves killed. It's too painful for us to stand by and watch such weak warriors fight like you do," Luna repeated.
"That's not all. Word on the street is that these newcomers are better fighters, and people are looking up to them more than you because of the fact they do less damage," said Artemis grimly.
"I repeat, how is this a bad thing?" asked Minako.
"Yeah! We never asked to become warriors!" said Usagi.
"Quit your whining! You are soldiers," said Luna sharply.
"Yes, but you two dragged us into this war without even considering our feeling about the whole thing," said Minako.
"You were born into it whether you like it or not."
"Maybe in our past life, but this is now," said Mikoto.
"Refresh my memory Luna...what exactly made Beryl so angry that she destroyed the kingdom?" asked Ami. Something about that story always bothered her.
"Fine. Serenity fell in love with the Earth prince Endymion and shortly before their engagement was to be made official on the Princess' fifteenth birthday, Beryl attacked."
"Tell them the whole truth Luna of Mao. Tell them about how the Princess broke up a political engagement without caring about the consequences," said a voice from the door.
"YOU! You should have died!" hissed Luna. She looked every inch the agitated cat at that moment, with her ears pinned back and her tail whipping this way and that.
"I was reincarnated by mistake. A happy one, I am sure," said the girl.
"Sailor N?" said Minako in shock.
"Funny thing really. You lot simply assume that your base of operations is secure because the broaches hide your real identity, but you never take steps to insure that it's secure from scrying spells or people who know what to look for. For example, you, Mercury, should have at least changed your hair color as there are very few short haired blunettes in Tokyo. And long haired blondes aren't very common either, especially with the twin bun and tail style you have going on Moon girl," said N conversationally.
"How did you find us?" demanded Luna.
"I looked. It wasn't that hard to be honest. Now, to answer your question, the real reason the Moon was attacked was because the Light Princess Serenity broke up the engagement between Endymion and Beryl without even talking it through with the families in question. Beryl had fought long and hard between other noblewomen for that match and Serenity showed up before the final papers were signed and ruined it. She was so angry she broke the seal the Queen had on some ancient evil and she decided to get revenge. If Serenity had been a better princess or at least thought things through more, then the Moon Kingdom might still be there," said N.
"What do you mean Light Princess?" asked Minako.
"Queen Serenity had two daughters, Serenity, the oldest, and Temperance, the youngest. Because of the fact Serenity was born first and was considered the heir, Temperance spent most of her time on the dark side of the moon in the poorer districts with her court. There were in fact two Senshi courts, and it just so happened that because Temperance's court lived farther away, they had more time to hone their skills, unlike Serenity's court."
"What is that supposed to mean? The Senshi were excellent fighters that could beat any man in the Moon Kingdom!" said Artemis offended.
"That's because the 'Inner' senshi spent more time in court functions than actually training. The 'Outer' senshi had to travel from quite far and were often stuck with sentry duty on the outer markers, which is quite boring so they more or less spent most of their days training. The few times they did come to the Queen's court, they were often ignored since they belonged to Temperance's side. You should have heard the things the Queen had to say when they refused to help during the attack because of the fact that Temperance had been trying to warn them of what would happen if they didn't stop the match."
"It was true love!" said Luna.
"True love is no excuse not to follow the proper procedures. If Serenity had done things correctly, then you might still have a real job," said N flatly.
"Who are you?" asked Usagi.
"Me? I'm Princess Temperance's reincarnation."
