Canisters thundered and shells fired into the stormy skies, racing through the air and over the bay before colliding with the massive monster known only as Dragomon. Burning against his tough exterior but doing little else to him.
"Is this the best your kind can muster?" He rumbled, raising his trident. "You bore me!" The ocean obeyed his commands, as great spouts of water erupted from beneath a number of the ships, ripping through them and casting the once formidable vessels to the mercy of the waves.
"Darcmon!" Samantha cried into her Digivice as she watched from a distance, her and the others chosen teens scattered across the outskirts of the battlefield in their attempt to find safety from the rising waters.
"Leave them alone!" Darcmon demanded, her staff flashing as she flew by his face unleashing bolts of electricity. They burned against his body but did little more than scorch the surface. One massive tendril lashed out at her as Dragomon raised his arm, she attempted to fly clear of the attack while raising her barrier. The shield of light surrounding her just in time, as the tentacle came down from above and smashed her into the streets below.
The ground shook on impact, leaving her buried in a crater of ruined street flooding with water as the tides continued flowing into the city. "Pathetic." Before a stream of explosions erupted across his upper body following the impact from several disc shaped devices. He turned and cast his gaze upon Mekanorimon, Thomas at the controls with fire in his eyes. "What a pitiful metal digimon, that you require a human to function properly." He grumbled out, aiming his trident at them. The waters began to rise in twin streams, coiling together before firing high pressure water beams towards them!
"Main weapons at full power!" Mekanorimon announced, his lenses flashing brightly, "GO!"
"FIRING!" Thomas slammed his hand down over the button, the beams of light erupting with enough force that Mekanorimon began to slide back on his heels. They ripped through the streams of water, taking Dragomon by surprise as they slammed into his chest burning into his skin.
At the same time, Yasyamon and Apemon went on the attack, leaping from rooftops on the giant digimon's flanks. "We've gotta find a soft spot!" The twin blade wielding warrior digimon shouted to his comrade.
"We'll make one ourselves!" Apemon replied, landing on Dragomon's side.
"Give'em hell!" Cody roared with intensity, not ready to surrender without a fight.
Yasyamon landed on Dragomon's arm, racing towards the wrist in an attempt to slice away the arm holding that pesky trident that seemed to be controlling the waters. But even as he stumbled, the titanic digimon reached for him with his multi-tentacled arm to blow him away. Yasyamon tried to counter attack, tried to fight them off but his body was ensnared in an instant.
"No!" Kai cried, "Yasyamon!"
"Weak." Dragomon rumbled, before throwing Yasyamon with brutal accuracy, sending the champion level warrior smashing through an entire apartment complex. His body making it through to the other side before he slid to a stop across the hard, unforgiving asphalt.
"No!" Apemon gasped, gritting his teeth. "Lets see how you like this!" Using what leverage he had gained, the beast digimon launched himself upward with all his might. Flipping head over heels into the air above Dragomon, as he brought his fists together. They began to glow blue, igniting with that magical fire. "CROWN OF THE BEAST KING!"
Delivering a brutal sledgehammer strike with both fists right to Dragomon's dome, causing it to give way partially. The massive digimon winced, one knee nearly buckling under the weight of its impact taking him by surprise. Rather than show his weakness though, he instead it looked up at the airborne ape, opening his massive maw before unleashing a wave of water at high speed. Apemon attempted to protect himself with his broad arms, but the blast ripped through fur and hide, blasting him further into the sky before Dragomon swung his mighty arm overhead.
Like a hammer coming down upon a well placed nail, it smashed him straight down through a tall office building. Driving him down several floors before he came to a stop somewhere inside.
"You bastard!" Cody's voice sounding through everyone's digivices.
"Dammit!" Thomas exclaimed, igniting thrusters to gain some distance as Dragomon continued his inland advance. "At this rate-" They were nearing the outskirts of the evacuation zone, people were fleeing for their lives in the streets as the shadow of the monster and storm above him loomed ever closer. In the distance, beyond the chaos and beneath the waves, a great light began to shine at the waters surface. "No! No not now!"
The gateway, a swirling mass of light and data, was finally opened. And this one remained in place, it wasn't a single flash of light but a brilliant doorway into a world beyond. It hovered at the surface of the ocean, a blue ring of light with sparkling lights all around and within. If not for the impending terror, Thomas might have said it looked beautiful.
"The gate is open," Dragomon rumbled, spreading his arms wide. "The end is here, embrace your defeat, and watch the end of this world begin!" His voice like thunder in the sky.
Thomas could only watch as multiple digimon began to pour from the breach. He saw more Seadramon, flanked by numerous Coelamon, Ebidramon and other nightmares from the deep! "No! W-We're finished..."
"Don't say that!" Mekanorimon argued, "We haven't lost yet, we're still here! We're still fighting!"
A bolt of lightning arced up from below, burning into Dragomon's lower body, drawing his eyes down to see a weak and battered Darcmon standing in the water filled street below holding her staff. "I... I won't let you do this!" She shouted up at him.
"Won't let me do this?" Dragomon repeated, looking down at her. "Would it dampen your spirits, to know that this is all your fault?"
Causing Darcmon to stiffen, "Wh-What are you talking about?"
"You digimon... The ones who came to this world, at the call of those digivices." He rumbled out, "You created a pathway to follow, the gateway we crafted was a result of mimicking the very power that brought you all here!"
Samantha nearly fell to her knees hearing this, "Then they weren't chosen because an invasion was coming..."
"The invasion was only possible because we were chosen!" Kai surmised, staring towards the distant gateway.
"You understand now?" Dragomon continued, "Your very existence in this world will be the reason it is destroyed, drown in the despair of your failure!"
Thomas however, found this information rather helpful. His fingers clicking across a keyboard inside Mekanorimon's cockpit, "If that gateway is using the same signal as our Digivices..." Before his eyes widened, "No... It's not just our Digivices... But how is that possible?"
Darcmon was likewise not discouraged, gripping her blade tighter. "Even if that is true... I won't allow this to continue!" She cried, spreading her wings and taking flight. "We'll stop you!" Racing up towards him, blade in hand.
Dragomon lashed out with his mighty tentacle arm to bat her away, but a blur of yellow fur erupted from a nearby building. Two burning monkey fists slamming into the arm from its side diverting its course, "That's right!" Apemon cried, "If you're here because of us that just means its our responsibility to fix this!"
Yasyamon emerged from the streets as well, heavily beaten and running on shaky legs as he dashed across rooftops. "We were chosen for a reason, we won't let them down! Our partners believe in us, we can't lose!"
Apemon, Darcmon and Yasyamon landed on a rooftop together, staring up at the monster with unwavering fire in their eyes. And for the briefest of moments, an onlooker might actually think they had a chance against the titanic digimon.
"Then come," Dragomon was annoyed, having hoped to see them wallowing in despair. "Face your end!" Slowly raising his trident, to call forth another brutal watery attack.
"HRAAAAGH!"
The vaguely familiar, thunderous shriek gave them all pause. As Dragomon looked up to the clouds, suspiciously watching as a massive shadow visible through them. His eyes widening, as from the darkness above, a great black demon emerged. Four blood red eyes burning into Dragomon, as it descended from the heavens and slammed into him with monstrous force and speed. The impact generating a shockwave that shattered nearby windows, and caused Dragomon to stumble back several steps.
"We won't let this be the end of us," Another voice, Madison's voice, sounded over their Digivices. "This is just the beginning!"
Devidramon's claws ripped into Dragomon's massive body, her tail stabbing at every opportunity. And the sheer might of this newly arrived challenger was enough to have the ultimate level on edge, "Hnngh!" Growling in pain, before mustering the force to throw back the mighty champion. "Dark one... You should not be here!"
Her eyes narrowed sharply, teeth bared like a vicious animal as her wings kept her in the air. "Grrrgh I'm... Right where... I need to be..." Her voice low, guttural, like she had trouble speaking properly in this form, unable to stop snarling.
"Oh HELL YEAH!" Cody exclaimed, fist pumping as he watched.
"Everyone!" Samantha called out, "Back up Devidramon! She might be our only chance against that monster!"
Darcmon nodded, gripping her sword with renewed vigor, "Lets go!" Taking flight, while Apemon and Yasyamon followed from the ground. The defenders getting a second wind, ignoring their previous injuries as they charged back into the fray.
"Thomas where are you?" Kai added, noting how he seemed to be absent from the fight. "We need your fire power!"
"Dragomon is a problem, but that Gateway needs to be closed," He answered simply, his voice suddenly filled with static that rang out from all of their digivices. It became louder and louder, making those listening wince and hold their Digivices back, before it finally stopped. "Dozens of digimon have already started pouring through, how many more will follow if we don't seal the gate?"
"So I take it you have something in mind?" Cody questioned, "And what the hell was that noise?"
"I've got a plan," Thomas assured, tapping away the keyboard. "Using the signal our digivices share, the same signal that brought our Digimon here, that's how they created this gateway." He explained, "That means if we can invert the signal, we can force the gate to close and send all these Digimon back!"
"That was the original plan right?" Sam replied, "So what's the big deal?"
"Because," Thomas felt a bit of pride fill his chest, remembering that day on the train and the night before. "I've already spent hours studying this signal!" What might have taken hours to narrow down and properly deduce, he could do in a fraction of the time!
Devidramon clashed with Dragomon once more, roaring furiously and snapping her jaws down over one of his tentacle arms. The massive digimon fighting back by slamming the demonic Digimon through another building. But he was easily distracted by Darcmon flying by and flashing lightning in his eyes, Apemon and Yasyamon delivering their heaviest blows to his lower ribs as well.
Giving Devidramon enough time to recover, she came tearing out of the rubble mad as hell. Despite still being only about half of Dragomon's size, she dug in with both her claws and her deadly tail, screaming her hellish cry as they continued to tangle.
"Wait," Madison realized something as she listened. "Won't it send our Digimon back too? To the digital world."
Thomas paused for a moment, before taking a deep breath and sighing. "Not just our Digimon..." He explained grimly, "There's a good chance we'll be pulled in too."
"What?!" Kai exclaimed, "How is that possible?"
"We're bound to our partners now," Thomas explained, "The same signal that connects us through the Digivice, it's embedded in our bodies as well, its like we've been magnetized, I'm not quite sure how or why but..." He shook his head, "When we I invert the signal we'll be pulled through as well."
"There's got to be another way!" Samantha argued.
"We can't wait any longer!" Thomas shouted back, as Mekanorimon continued flying towards the breach. "The digimon pouring through have started to spread out, once they start hitting populated areas hundreds will die! We have to do this now!" Before he sunk back in his seat, releasing another heavy sigh. "I'm sorry... If there was more time I might be able to figure it out but..."
"Do it." Cody said simply, "Invert the signal."
"What!?" Samantha replied in disbelief.
"He's right," Madison nodded, holding her device close. "We can't worry about ourselves when hundreds of lives are at stake."
Samantha shifted nervously, staring out towards the breach. "You guys understand this could be a one way trip right?"
"We'll find a way back," Kai said firmly, folding his arms over his chest. "Together."
Samantha wasn't so sure, shaking her head before relenting. "Alright, do it," She finally agreed. "Look at us, out here saving the world..."
Mekanorimon was forced to weave and course correct as digimon near the gateway started to open fire. Unleashing a hailstorm of ice and water projectiles, "You almost done up there Thomas!?" Wincing as a few skimmed across his hull.
Dragomon released a thunderous roar, waters raging around him that began to batter and throw aside the Digimon one by one. Before he got his meaty tentacle around Devidramon's neck, "Hrnngh! Insolent beast, you will die first! And once this world is under my control I'll pay your master a visit for this betrayal!" Raising his trident with the other hand.
Her response was more rage, as the demonic dragon opened her maw and released a torrent of black miasma that blasted Dragomon in the face temporarily blinding him.
"Almost... Got it!" Thomas cried, slamming his finger down on the Enter key, "Inverting Signal Now! Everyone brace yourself!"
The portal began to shimmer, colors warping briefly while all the childrens Digivice's began to erupt with beeping sounds and flashing lights. Dragomon looked towards the gateway, feeling a strange sensation as his body began to move. "What is- No! How is this possible?!" He demanded, struggling against the pull, as both he and every other digimon in the area started to get pulled towards the gate. "NO! You can't do this! This world was supposed to be ours!"
But it was helpless to resist, drawn into the flashing light as all the Digimon were sent back to the Digital World willing or not. Dozens of aquatic digimon that had been spreading through the waters howled and tried to fight the pull. Even the partners of our young heroes were helpless against it, dragged into the sky and sent flying towards both the gate and their partners.
The teens themselves would fare no better, relinquishing themselves to fate as they were sent hurtling through the sky towards the gate. Each and everyone of them bracing themselves for whatever was to come next. It happened so quickly, they barely had the time to process what was happening to them as they each passed through the doorway.
And then, after they had all disappeared inside, it slammed shut. Disappearing and leaving naught but the slowly settling waves behind.
Now, the chosen teens would get to see just what kind of world their partners came from...
For better and for worse.
Aaaand that's all for Season One! I hope everyone has enjoyed the ride so far, I know I've had a lot of fun writing it. Now that we're here at the end of Season One I wanted to give a bit of a breakdown for my plans going forward, now that everyone who has read this story kind of has an idea of the tone this story will be carrying.
First and foremost, I'm going to take a break for a little bit. I pretty much had season 1 completely finished before I started posting, and just make tweaks and adjustments as I went along. I'd like to do the same thing with Season 2 going forward, for 2 main reasons. Having everything ready to go allows me to not stress of deadlines or worry about not knowing how I want things to proceed. But don't worry, I shouldn't be gone too long, as of right now Season 2 is a little over half finished, it'll be roughly the same length as Season 1, maybe a little longer.
Second, this story will have a total of 4 Seasons. All have already been planned out, storyboarded whatever, so here is a small teaser for you guys that you can try to decipher yourself :3
Season Two: The Digital Odyssey - Season Three: A Return to Normal - Season Four: Chaos Break
That being said, I do have plans for side stories too should I want to make more for these characters to do after the main story is over. I'm seeing Digital Crisis as a series, and anything that happens post Season Four will be posted as separate story! But we'll worry about that later ;3
Final note, I forgot to mention it before but I saw it mentioned in a Review so I wanted to address it in case there was anymore doubt.
Tsukaimon's evolution into Devidramon was not her "Dark Digivolution", Devidramon will be her Champion form for the remainder of this story. I originally thought of switching her evolution for the final battle here, but I liked the idea of her remaining as the "Dark One" on the team, mainly because I've always liked the idea behind this quote: "Is it better to be born good or overcome great evil?"
Anyways, that enough rambling. If you've been reading along the whole time, thank you very much. Feel free to drop your thoughts in a review, this is my first story on FF and all the things people have said so far have been super helpful so far :D
See you guys in a few weeks! Expect Season 2 to return either midway through November or At the start of December.
