Chrono was giddy as he felt the 'owl' landed. Imagine his surprise when he found out that his new time machine came with windows! He spent ten minutes just watching the time stream fly by.
Then the ship shuddered as it landed and he looked outside.
It was a town, one that looked far too familiar.
Seeing the odd black creatures wandering around on the ground, Chrono looked at the console.
"Why am I in Twilight Town?" he asked.
Somehow he had breached dimensions to arrive in the realms of Kingdom Hearts, which made absolutely no sense.
His ship hummed pleasantly, and there was a loose scrawl across the lone screen.
Unlike her sisters, this T.A.R.D.I.S. could respond to her partner.
Because of your unique physiology as a Time Lord and a magical, you are able to travel not only time and space, but through dimensional walls as well. It was something that the normal time lords had attempted before the war, but had given up when it became clear that a certain aspect was still missing.
"Since you can answer me, what should I call you then?"
I have only just awakened. You may chose a designation if you like.
"How about...Tari?"
The newly designated Tari hummed. It had a ring to it.
Chrono stepped outside and felt the magic of Twilight Town in his bones. Tari shrunk down to the size of Hedwig and the two owls took a spot on each shoulder. He nearly jumped when he heard Tari's voice in his head.
Oh good, we can speak outside the screens. This is far more convenient than what my older sisters have to put up with.
"Can you translate for Hedwig too?"
"I can hear you, hatchling," hooted Hedwig in his head.
"I'm glad we can finally talk properly Hedwig," said Chrono, stroking her feathers.
I believe your magic has allowed me to operate on a level that most of my sisters have only wished for. Their operators are often deaf to their voices.
"Shall we investigate then?" asked Chrono with a wide grin. Both 'owls' hooted in agreement.
Chrono had a weird dream that night, but he recognized what was going on.
He was in the Station of Awakening. How fun!
It felt like he was in water falling deeper and deeper into the murky depths.
He opened his eyes to find...a stained glass floor. On it was a man with many faces and what appeared to be a blue police public call box. Three faces seemed to shift the most, as if they were the current face. One was of an older man, his hair almost gone. He had a sharp nose and odd eyes.
The second was of a man who greatly resembled Barty Crouch Jr., only his face was more mischievous instead of insane. He wore a leather trench coat and he had glasses on his nose.
The third was a more sedate face, but his hair was blown out a bit. He had a red fez on his head and a red bow tie.
The only common thing this glass had was that the blue box remained prominent.
He landed softly onto the floor.
Welcome, young time lord. This is the station of awakening, you must chose now what path your magic will take from here on out.
Chrono looked around. There were three object waiting for him.
A bone white wand, the sword of Gryffindor, and what appeared to be a shield he had seen once in a graphic novel series he had borrowed from a Ravenclaw.
He walked towards the wand first.
The Elder Wand. Unlimited power and the chance to be Master of Death itself.
He walked towards the sword next.
The Sword of Gryffindor. A paragon of Light and the one who would lead the magical communities into an era of change.
He finally went to the shield. It was gold and blue, and had fairy writing on it and exuded healing and protective magic.
The Sheathe of Avalon, once belonging to Alturia Pendragon herself. It was once lost to time before it was found, and will aid any it deems worthy of it's power.
Chrono looked at all three items. He looked at the wand. Unlimited power was great, but there was always a price in the end. And the sword held no interest to him, despite having used it once. He was tired of being the poster boy for the magicals. He picked up the sheathe instead.
You would chose the shield of the King?
Chrono didn't budge. Something about the sheathe made him feel safe, which was something he had been missing for a long time.
What will you give up?
He did hesitate, as he picked up the wand next.
You would give up the chance to be the savior of Light? How daring of you.
The sword vanishes from his sight.
To which path would you walk? Will you travel the path of the light, or that of the dark?
Chrono thought long and hard about this. On one hand, he had been the 'savior of the light' for as long as he could remember. Dumbledore claimed to only have his best interests at heart, but his actions contradicted his claims all the time. However Voldemort was supposed to be the darkest wizard of all time, yet at least he never lied about his motives.
Then there was the Ministry to consider. All those spells and supposedly Dark creatures, held back because the people in power were too afraid to admit they were worried about losing their place in the sun.
Chrono nodded to himself. He would never be dark, but he would no longer follow the mock parody of the Light ever again. He had enough of following the ideas of someone else. It was time to follow his own path.
He walked between both paths, revealing a third. It was filled with shades of gray.
So you will follow your own destiny, a delicate balance of light and dark. Then again, you've always been following this path, haven't you?
Images floated by of him befriending Blaise Zabini and Daphne Greengrass. Of him playing with the twins who acknowledged that they were Gray lords instead of blindly following Dumbledore's tune. Of Sirius Black, so desperate to avoid being like his family and branded as dark.
Be warned, young time lord. Light and dark exist to clash, always striving to break the other. Just as you travel the path of good and evil, so does your darker nature...
His shadow extended from behind him and he came face to face with something from his nightmares.
Voldemort in his body. His once sharp green eyes were now a more vicious crimson, his skin pale as a vampires, and his magic twisted into a mockery of what it once was. His darker half sneered and he went into a battle stance.
His hands held something, almost like they were gripping a hilt. The sheath he had chosen over the wand and sword grew warm inside his chest where it had vanished and something appeared in his hands.
It was an English broadsword with gold and blue to match the sheath. Only at the end instead of a sharp tapering it was the shape of a key with a crown indentation.
Chrono held the unusual blade at the apparition, and when the fake shot a spell at him he dodged before he jumped in at him. The sword moved like a dream, cutting the fake with disturbing ease.
Finally, he did a move that came to mind as his magic began to collect inside of him. It was the biggest finishing move that this sword had.
"Ex-Calibur!"
A blast of silver-gold radiance erupted from the sword, turning the fake into a memory.
Very impressive. The Keyblade you now hold is the Sword of Promised Victory, Excalibur. Only one whose heart seeks peace may wield it to it's fullest potential. While you travel through these worlds, you shall walk the path of the Keyblade Master.
If you prove yourself worthy of this new power, you will be able to summon this blade anywhere you travel, even in your own world. Fail, and you shall be banished from this realm forever, never to return, the power lost.
But do not despair, young time lord. The choices you have made today will stay with you forever, even if the power does not.
Chrono found himself awake inside Tari, who had a nice bed for him to use.
"Well that was weird."
Chrono got to experiment with his new sword on the countless Heartless that he kept running across.
Eventually he grew bored enough to leave Twilight Town in search of other worlds.
So he decided to see if Tari could move between worlds like she had with dimensions.
Of course I can traverse worlds. I am a spaceship after all. Though with the unique nature of space travel this dimension has, it will be a bit...bumpy.
"I trust you Tari," said Chrono, patting her console.
She hummed in happiness.
Chrono raced to the windows when he felt the bumps and remembered that Kingdom Hearts had this weird issue with space travel...it was an annoying mini-game that Dudley used to complain about because he sucked at the controls.
Watching the worlds pass by, he immediately went to the controls to see what he could do.
Tari nudged him to the ones he was looking for and soon the ride became a lot less bumpy. Finally she raised her wings and 'landed' in a secluded area.
It only took a single look at the pirate ship outside before he figured out which world he landed in.
"Sweet," said Chrono, walking outside. He had changed clothes since he didn't enjoy wearing the same thing all the time. The outfit he wore now looked like a brighter version of Edward Elric's clothes. He didn't have the coat or jacket on, so his arms were left bare. His pants were a dark red color, and his shirt was a sedate gray. He didn't bother with boots, but rather open toed sandals that were easier to run in. His hair was in a simple pony tail, somewhat like Itachi Uchiha.
It was well known by most Ravenclaws that Chrono was in fact a closet Otaku.
He didn't dare let Hedwig out since she was still rather sleepy, so he walked outside alone. Tari shrunk into her smaller form and flew along side him.
One of the major perks of being able to take the form of a living creature was that she could move on her own and follow her partner.
He walked around and eventually stumbled upon a couple of inept pirates harassing some kids. With an evil smirk he vanished into the trees and pulled out a few wet-start fireworks he had left from Zonko's. Once he set the off, he tossed them behind the pirates.
With a loud shriek, the firework went off. It startled the adults so much that they ran away screaming about demons.
"You kids alright?" asked Chrono.
"Who are you mister?" asked the youngest.
"Just someone who hates seeing bullies. Where is this place anyway?"
"Neverland," said the oldest. He looked at Chrono shrewdly.
"How old are you?"
"A little over fifteen, why?"
"What's your opinion of adults?"
"They only mess things up. Most of them seem to think it's the kid's job to clean up their mess," said Chrono bitterly.
"Pan will want to meet you then," said the oldest with a nod.
"Who?"
"Peter Pan," said the youngest.
"What are your names?"
"Paul."
"Ben."
"Marbles," said the youngest.
"My name's Chrono, and this is Tari," said Chrono, letting his ship land on his wrist.
"Cool bird!" said Marbles.
"I have another bird named Hedwig, though she's sleeping at the moment.
Peter Pan was tired. Heartless had been attacking the Lost Boys for weeks now, and he barely had a moment's rest. Even Tink was getting worn out.
Finally the three who went off searching for supplies came back...with an extra.
"Who are you?"
"Relax Pete, Chrono here chased off some of Hook's pirates," said Paul.
Chrono then noticed something coming up behind Pan.
"Watch out!" he said, drawing his Keyblade.
Pan flew off while Chrono cut the heartless in two.
"You're a Keyblade wielder? Why didn't you say so in the first place!"
"Didn't have time. Name's Chrono," said the young time lord.
"Peter Pan. This is Tinkerbell."
"Hello. This is Tari, and Hedwig is... oh, she's awake?" said Chrono, looking at Tari.
"You can talk to your owl?" asked Peter surprised.
"She's not an owl. Well let her out if she want to see this place," said Chrono.
Tari took off and to the shock of the others became very large indeed. A full grown man could walk out from the odd passage under her wings.
A second white owl appeared and landed on the branch. She looked identical to Tari.
"That is Hedwig."
"What on earth?" asked Peter, voicing the other's thoughts.
"Tari is my ship...she's a bit unique," said Chrono sheepishly as she shrunk back down.
"Oh you have to tell us this story when we get back to base!" said Peter, his usual self returning.
It took a few hours, but eventually he was able to tell them his story. Many of the Lost Boys were enamored of Hedwig, who was by far the only tame bird they had ever seen, let alone one so rare in that tropical climate.
It didn't help that Chrono had no reservations about teaching some of the more magically inclined boys about pranks. Needless to say Pan thought that was all in good fun, especially after they let loose a few harmless spells on Hook's men...and after Chrono turned Hook's infamous hook into an eel.
Chrono had never seen anyone laugh so hard in his life.
