Arrogance and Ignorance
Chapter 3
Drunk and cheerless
Misty didn't know what to think when there at 1am in the morning Gary was at her door demanding that she let him in so he could talk to her. She felt frustrated that she would have to explain to her neighbours why there was a man outside her door screaming after her at 1am. She felt annoyed because it was 1am and she was rather tired, nothing could be this important that after seeing her naked he had to return. She felt something else too, though the feeling was hard to make out, she couldn't understand it at all, and she didn't have time to think about it with Gary was still there raving about something.
"Misty, let me in, it's cold out here, I want to stay with you!" Misty almost thought he had gone completely insane and before she could think about it she was ushering Gary inside before she started seeing lights come on to signify that the neighbours heard Gary's rambling.
Gary swung around to Misty and put his arms around her waist, Misty stood there frozen, she didn't know what to do. Gary then leaned in to kiss her and Misty smelt it; Alcohol. With all of her strength she heaved the big oaf off her. He stood there shocked for a little bit, and then went to come towards her again. Misty evaded him easily now that she knew he was drunk, and he just chased her around for a while. All the time Misty was trying to convince him to leave her alone.
Mist looked around quickly for a way out, and then looked at the sofa cunningly. Gary came flying at her and she bounded over the sofa easily, but because Gary was drunk he fell onto the sofa, the impact wouldn't have hurt, but the fool was drunk and he would want to sleep. Misty looked in Gary's direction, and then straight past him saw that she had left the door open. She shook her head and looked at Gary, he wasn't going anywhere fast.
Misty scooted over to the door to keep out the cold and saw sitting on the step a little black ball. She squinted to try to see what it was, but it only stayed there curled up and didn't move.
"He's mine!" Gary yelled from the sofa.
Misty started to wonder what on earth the idiot was on about. The nerve of him, coming into her house at 1am, drunk and then laying all over her nice clean sofa, and now saying randomly stupid things. Misty looked back at the ball at her feet and saw it shiver. She ran inside and grabbed a blanket, then went back outside and gently wrapped the, what she assumed to be a pokemon, in the blanket and lifted it up. The pokemon flinched, but was too cold too attack.
Misty left the pokemon in the blanket near the fireplace, it would warm up eventually, she hoped. She then placed some food and water out for the pokemon, and got Gary a drink of water. Gary took the water and gulped it down, he asked for another one, Misty had no other choice but to get him the drink, otherwise he would sit on her sofa and yell out about it all night.
Misty lifted herself up and dragged herself out into the kitchen. She grabbed another drink of water and began taking the glass to Gary. She came back and nearly threw the glass at his head. He had spewed all over her floorboards and the rugs she had put down. The bubble of frustration in her stomach began to grow, it threatened to pop on her too.
"Sorry Mist, I had to do it!" Gary was yelling at her, since when did he think he had the right to call her Mist, that was what Brock and Ash used to call her. Brock! Misty ran to the phone and dialled in the number, Brock would know how to cleanup this mess.
A groggy voice answered the phone and Misty hit herself for forgetting that it was 1am and Brock would be asleep. Well it was too late now, she thought as she quickly explained the situation to Brock. The conversation ended in about five minutes, Brock explained to her what she had to do to get rid of the smell and Gary. He ended the conversation with…
"If you ever need to talk to me Mist, don't be afraid to call, I'll come and visit soon if you want too, you seem to need some company there at your lonesome little Gym." Brock was still a little groggy, but Misty knew he meant what he said. Misty shed a tear at the fact that Brock, like herself, had returned to his Gym, he was so close to home now, well for Misty, Brock was home.
Misty started to head what Brock had said and started disinfecting the floor and sofa and wiping up the mess, the smell of vomit made her want to spew though, she had never had much of a stomach for these things. Gary sat there mumbling something, but Misty ignored him, he was already taking advantage of her since the other night. God why did she go to kiss him?
Misty saw movement out of the corner of her eye and looked over to where the pokemon had been laying, it wasn't in the blanket. Misty dismissed it, and went to get some more rags. From the sounds Misty heard she assumed Gary had icked up all over the disinfected floor, she wanted to cry. She was tired and this was not in the mood to be taking care of Gary Oak. Misty pulled one rag out from underneath a lot of other blankets, and the other blankets fell down all over the floor. Misty could feel the tears welling out, she couldn't take it.
Misty returned to the living room where the sofa was and saw the mess all over the floor; that set her off. She started balling her eyes out, for the second time this week! She never cried, not for anyone, and Gary had come into her life and made her cry twice! How did she let herself get so emotional? Misty pulled herself over to the spew and started moping it up while salt water droplets fell down her face.
"You look so beautiful when you cry" Gary mumbled to her while he lay on the sofa and passed out. Misty wanted to hit him, but in her current state she didn't have the energy.
She continued wiping up the vomit and crying. Soon her eyes became too watery to see anything, so she pulled herself up and went into the bathroom to wash her eyes. When she came back she saw that a pokemon was on the floor in front of the spew and looking at Gary in a very evil way. It seemed angry with Gary for some reason, Misty had no idea why, but she agreed with the pokemon.
The pokemon saw her and Misty saw it for what it was, it was a pikachu, Misty could feel the tears even more now, it reminded her so much of that friend of hers from so many years ago. Gary put his hand out to touch the pikachu, it seemed he had regained consciousness for a minute, but the pikachu bit him hard. Misty watched the pokemon and saw how much it reminded her of pikachu. Misty didn't fear the pokemon though, she didn't fear many of them at all, but especially not pikachu, it was just stubborn, and she had put up with Ash for years.
Misty continued wiping up vomit and disinfecting the floor, the pokemon sat and watched her, nothing more. She was expecting it to go and explore, but it just watched. Misty finished wiping up the mess and disinfecting the sofa and floor and got herself ready for sleep. She came back out to the sofa and let out a deep breath when she saw that Gary was asleep and the floor was still clean. Misty walked over to him in her silk nightie. She watched him as he slept, no smirk, no evil grin, no sadistic comments, just Gary Oak how he was when he wasn't himself. So unguarded, so scruffy, so adorable. Misty wanted to slap herself for thinking it, but seeing him this way reminded her of how Ash looked when he slept, so innocent.
The thought of Ash brought back the memory of him and the brunette, and that in turn brought back the tears she had kept locked up. Misty ran up to the attic and sat on the balcony sill. She looked out into the night and prayed that someday she would rid herself of this, of this pain and sorrow she felt for someone who probably never looked at her the same way. She felt so much for him and it just made her cry that she couldn't have him. The emptiness inside her was a hole she felt she needed to fill, but with what, what could one find to fill a hole so vast?
"Oh why do you make me love you so?" She mumbled to herself between tears. She hugged her knees to her chest and put her head down on them to cry. If she was going to cry now she was going to let out all of her emotion while no one was watching or listening. Misty heard footsteps and drew in a breath, she wasn't going to let Gary see her cry again, no matter how drunk he was. But it wasn't Gary. Misty looked around for a sign of who it was, but before she knew it something bounded onto her lap. Misty freaked as it came from the ceiling and she thought it was a bug, god she hated bugs. But it wasn't a bug.
The small yellow pikachu looked up at her crying and it seemed almost worried, almost as if it cared about Misty. Misty just looked at the pokemon and tried to hold back the tears, crying wasn't going to solve her problems now, she was way too deep inside herself to let them out, and now she was just lost in a sea of emotion.
"Pika chu, chu, pii" The pikachu said to her as it pointed to her eyes. Misty couldn't understand pikachu at all, but she knew well enough that the pokemon wanted to know what was wrong.
"Oh boy, I'm upset, I haven't slept and I, I... I… I don't even know anymore…" She said as more tears trickled down her cheeks. The pikachu that sat on her lap got closer to her and hugged her. Misty hugged it back with a lot of force and the pokemon seemed happy.
"Chu!" It exclaimed as she hugged it tight and held it up in front of her.
"Thank you" She whispered to the pokemon. The pokemon yawned and Misty yawned back. "Guess we should hit the sack then huh boy?" She said to the pikachu, it nodded to her and jumped onto her shoulder as if for her to lead the way. Misty felt a jolt of happiness at her new friend and walked up to her bedroom.
"Well you can either stay down there with Gary, as I assume you are his, or you can sleep up here with me" Misty said to the pikachu on her shoulder. The pikachu growled when she said Gary's name and so Misty offered for the pokemon to stay with her again. It seemed quite happy to do that. It bounded off her shoulder and Misty got into bed.
"Sleep wherever you like pikachu, goodnight" She said to the pokemon. She imagined it would sleep on the small padded armchair in her room, but she felt her bed bounce as the pikachu snuggled up to her under the covers. Misty hugged the pokemon another time and then went to sleep.
OoOGary woke up and tried to lift his head, but it pinned itself to the pillow of his bed. He opened his eyes slowly and noticed that this wasn't his house, and he wasn't in his bed. What had happened last night after he had gone to the Lounge Café? Gary's head hurt from thinking about the events of the night before. He rolled off what he found was a sofa and landed face first on the floor. The floor smelt of disinfectant and a little hint of vomit. The smell of coffee made Gary want to get up more than ever, but who was making coffee? Where was he?
OoOMisty heard the toast pop and she grabbed the margarine out of the fridge. Pikachu took the pieces of toast out of the toaster for her and put them on the plate she had sitting there. Misty grabbed a butter knife and buttered the toast; she then grabbed out some strawberry jam and put it on her piece.
"What do you want on your piece huh?" She said to the pikachu. The pikachu jumped into her cabinet and searched for a while, Misty started to laugh when it returned with ketchup. She put some on the toast and gave the piece to the pikachu; she ate her piece with strawberry jam and then washed up the dishes.
Pikachu helped dry and put away the dishes and Misty patted the pokemon on the head, it was really helpful. It seemed to detest Gary though, and Misty couldn't understand why, well she could understand why anyone would hate Gary, but not why pokemon would. Misty thought about making gary breakfast, after all, he had the day before, he just didn't get a chance to give it to her. She popped two more pieces of bread into the toaster and grabbed out a plate.
The kettle began to whistle and pikachu bounded to the floor and started to growl at it. Misty laughed and started to pour three cups of hot water. She made a coffee for Gary, a cup of tea for herself, and a hot chocolate for pikachu as it was rather cold this morning.
Pikachu took the hot chocolate appreciatively and took it into the living room where Gary was, Misty follow quickly as she was worried pikachu might pour it over Gary. But Gary was sitting up on the sofa trying to hold himself up Misty gathered as she raised an eyebrow at him. She shrugged to herself and went and sat on the couch near the fireplace. Pikachu sat at her feat and sipped his hot chocolate.
"There is a coffee waiting for you in the kitchen, if you can pull your drunk arse up off my sofa to go get it then you can have it, if not then I guess it will go cold and I'll tip it out" Misty said in a rather calm voice, but she was ready to snap at him for the vomiting.
"Misty I know this might be a really bad question to ask, but what happened last night?" Gary mumbled half to himself and half to her. Misty didn't have the patients or tolerance to answer that question. She just sat there and patted pikachu for comfort. Pikachu sat there and growled at Gary while Misty patted its' head. Gary let out a sigh and pulled himself up and into the kitchen to get the coffee. Misty and pikachu sat and watched him carefully. Pikachu let out a cry and bolted off somewhere, Misty stared after it in wonder and then let it pass.
Gary stumbled back into the living room balancing his coffee carefully. Pikachu came back with a rag in its' mouth and started swabbing at the floor. Misty looked down to see that the pikachu had spilt some hot chocolate on the floor and was cleaning it up.
"Thank you pikachu, always nice to know that someone can clean up after themselves" It was a half compliment to pikachu and a half snap at Gary. But Gary had such a hangover he couldn't muster up a smart remark. He only sat there and drank in his coffee.
There was only silence while they all sat and drank their warm drinks, Misty was starting to feel a little uncomfortable, and she hated feeling that way in her own home. She got up and took her cup out to the kitchen to wash it off, pikachu followed and did the same. She then went into the living room where Gary sat staring at the floor.
"Look people wanting Gym battles will arrive soon and I can't have you stinking the place up, so go and have a shower or something and for heavens sakes brush your teeth, there should be a pack of toothbrushes in there, pull one out" Misty said almost to the air itself. But Gary knew she was talking about him and he got up and walked into the bathroom.
Misty shook her head as he left and went and got some pokemon to let out. Dratini and starmie went straight into the pool. Maril began to wonder around and play hide and seek with Misty's squirtle. Pikachu seemed content to stay with Misty. Today was going to be cold and slow. But at least pikachu was willing to hang around and keep her company, at least until Gary tried to take it with him when he left.
After a few battles trainers got used to a pikachu being with Misty, everyone knew she was a water pokemon trainer, but she could have other types as well. Some thought she might use it in a battle, but she reminded them that her Gym was a water gym and therefore she only used water type pokemon. Gary came out of the shower and watched her battle with the trainers that came and passed while it was peak hour.
Things slowed down later and trainers stopped coming as it began to get dark. Misty made them all tea and started putting away her pokemon. After tea Gary came upo to her and announced that he was leaving.
"Um Mist, thanks for having me here and everything, guess I can't stay, I gotta go to Pallet and see my grandfather and train some more. Sorry I turned up on your doorstep drunk, and as I piece together what happened I promise I'll apologise" Gary went to walk out the dor and he called to pikachu. Pikachu bared its' teeth and growled at him, Gary seemed intent on it coming with him so e could train it, but the pikachu was ready to shock Gary if he attempted to make the pokemon leave.
"Gary if pikachu wants to stay he is welcome, but why does he hate you anyway?" Misty said intrigued by the way the pikachu would have absolutely none of this 'leaving' crap.
"If I let him stay will you forget about why he hates me?" Gary said almost in a sarcastic tone.
"Hell no, but I won't push the point any further right now" Misty said with a smirk to match his own. Gary smiled, a genuine smile at her, and then walked out the door with hands in pockets.
Misty watched him go and then smiled at pikachu, the pokemon bounded up- and hugged her.
"Pika pika, pika pi!" It said in delight, Misty wasn't sure if it was grateful, but from the way it reacted, she could almost swear it was. Misty smiled and hugged the pokemon back. Then Misty heard the door again and suddenly half her problems subsided.
Help was here.
Well that's chapter three over and done with, it was rather long compared to the chapters prior to it, and a lot more boring in terms of what happens, but that's what I think. I want to know what you guys think lol.
