Big fight this chapter. Considering I don't consider myself to be very good at writing fight scenes, I'm actually rather happy with how this turned out.
Criticism and questions are always welcome! Don't be afraid to post a review!
Saitama wasn't lying, his apartment was small. Not that Calamitas was going to complain.
"You know, I've invited you into my home, and you haven't even given me your name."
"Oh, how rude of me. I go by Calamitas."
"Calamitas, huh? Sounds kind of like an anime villain's name."
Calamitas winced a bit at the word villain.
"Yeah... Wait, what's an 'Anime'?"
"It's like an animated story."
Calamitas still didn't quite get it, but didn't care to press further.
"Ah."
An awkward moment of science followed.
Calamitas decided to try and break the ice. If she was staying with this man for the night, she should get to know him.
"So, uh, what do you do for a living?"
"Huh? Oh, I'm not employed. I usually just go beat up monsters for the occasional reward."
"So your a mercenary of sorts?"
"Well, it's not like I take contracts or anything. If I see a monster causing trouble, I'll just punch it and move on."
"That's... A simple way of describing a fight."
"Yeah, but it's not much of a fight if the enemy goes down in just one punch."
That got Calamitas' attention. "Are you saying that you defeat every enemy you come across in a single attack?!"
"Yeah, it's been a while since I've been in a real fight. I hope that I can find someone who will push me eventually."
Despite his genuine tone, Calamitas was still skeptical. "Well, I'm pretty powerful myself. What do you say to a little spar tomorrow?"
"Sure, why not? I'm gonna go watch the nightly news. There's an extra futon in the closet over there that you can sleep on."
"I see. Thank you."
After Calamitas finished getting her sleeping arrangements ready, she walked into the room Saitama was in. He had changed out of his jumpsuit and cape, and was wearing blue and white striped pajamas. He was laying on his futon watching what appeared to be a screen broadcasting the news.
"A shocking and confusing sight occurred in the southern district of city Z this afternoon. A Civilian was attacked by a monster. While this itself would not be quite newsworthy, what happened next was unexpected. Another monster stepped in and saved the woman, Before defeating the monster who attacked her!"
Calamitas walked over to get a better view, only for her eyes to widen as the screen replayed a scene of her burning the monster she had encountered earlier in the day.
"The most confusing part is that the monster who stepped in appeared to converse with the victim for a moment, before leaving without another word. The victim was interviewed shortly after her encounter."
The screen shifted To the woman who Calamitas saved.
"She saved my life! If it weren't for her, my children would be left without their mother! she may look like a monster, but she doesn't act like one!"
The woman's claims made Calamitas smile. It felt nice to be praised for doing a good deed instead of being feared and despised.
"Despite the victim's claims, we can't be sure what this mysterious monster's motives are. Additionally, due to the lack of evidence, an accurate threat level cannot be assigned to it. If you encounter the monster, keep a distance."
Calamitas' attention was snapped away from the TV by the mention of her name.
"Huh?"
"I was asking why the news was calling you a monster."
"Oh. That's likely because of my appearance. I admit I do look a bit odd, even from where I come from. I'm actually surprised that you haven't mentioned it."
"Yeah, but you saved a woman's life. People shouldn't say someone's a monster just because of how they look, it should be through their actions."
"I see. That's a very nice way of thinking."
"Well, that's just what I think. It's getting late. I'm gonna hit the hay."
"I'm rather tired as well. I'll see you in the morning then."
"Yeah. Night."
Calamitas woke up to the sun glaring into her eyes. It was certainty a change from her dark chambers back in Yharim's castle.
"Ugh. That infernal ball of light and pain. I hoped I could get a couple more hours."
"Oh, your up. I was just making breakfast. I hope you like sausage, because it's all I got."
"That'll be fine, thank you."
Calamitas walked over to the table, inspecting her clothes.
'I really need to get another outfit. My robes are getting dirty, and I can't just walk around naked while I wash them. Maybe I should use the currency that woman gave me...'
"So, what time should we have that spar?"
"Huh? Oh, whenever you please. I don't really have anything going on."
"Ok, I guess noon would be fine then. There's this canyon a few dozen miles outside the city that we can fight in."
"Are you sure we shouldn't go further out? I don't want to end up causing damage if things get too serious."
"If we need, we can just go into the forest. It's pretty big, so we should be fine."
"Fair enough, I suppose."
Saitama chucked. "Who knows? Maybe you're the fight I've been searching for."
"So what're we gonna do to start off?"
Calamitas and Saitama were facing each other in the bottom of the canyon.
"Why don't you show me some of what You can do first? I don't want to hurt you too badly."
"So like what? Show you some of my moves or something?"
"Why don't we start off with seeing if you can even catch me."
Calamitas phased out of sight, leaving a shockwave induced crater where she once stood. While to most it appeared as if she had simply vanished, Saitama was able to track her movements with ease. He saw her running around the edge of the canyon, and started after her, catching up without mush trouble.
"Hm, impressive! However, I'm not even going a tenth of my full speed! Lets see if you can break the light barrier!"
Calamitas Sped off again, leaving multiple afterimages behind her. But again, Saitama managed to catch up.
"Astounding! You can handle half of my top speed! I guess we'll see just how fast you can go in our bout."
"I got to admit, I don't think I've met someone as fast as you before. Don't go getting my hopes up."
"Well, you haven't even seen me attack yet! Watch this!"
Calamitas turned around and fired a brimstone bomb from her hand, Blowing up most of the canyon wall and a good portion of the forest behind it.
"Think you can handle something like that?"
Saitama shrugged. Yeah sure. Don't see why you're showing off so much instead of beginning the fight."
"I just didn't want to hurt you too bad. I guess we can begin now. Feel free to do anything necessary to defeat me."
As soon as She finished her sentence, Saitama was in front of her with a fist cocked back. Feinting to the right, she dodged his punch, and then another, and another and another and another, before she decided to back away.
"Hah, I felt the breeze on those blows! You're no pushover. However, I'm not your average opponent!"
Calamitas gathered a bit of her energy, the rock below her feet turning to slag, before she expelled a massive wave of brimstone fire from her body, blanketing the whole canyon and charring the stone.
As the flames died down, Saitama appeared behind her, clothes singed but otherwise unharmed, and delivered a punch to the side of her head. Or at least he would have if Calamitas hadn't managed to get her arm up in time. She was sent careening across the canyon, and buried in the wall, before it crumbled apart and collapsed on her.
"Hey Calamitas? You're not done already are you? You were starting to get my hopes up!"
The pile of boulders started to rumble, before a giant brimstone laser shot out from it, engulfing Saitama and cutting through the earth for a few miles, before finally stopping.
As the attack fizzled out, Calamitas lowed her arm, smirking. "Bold of you to assume that a single attack would do me in."
Saitama was still standing in the area he was before.
"Man, your tough. For real. I didn't put as much power into that punch as I do to kill monsters, but you don't even look phased!"
"Oh don't get me wrong I felt that. Not enough to call it pain, necessarily, but even so, it takes quite a bit to make me feel anything."
"Well, now I know that you can handle normal punches. Lets see what else you can do."
"Well, I guess I could afford to summon a few friends."
Calamitas formed multiple soul seekers and brimstone skulls. Which immediately locked onto Saitama and took off after him. Saitama went to punch them as they approached, only for them to explode and engulf him in brimstone flames.
"I should mention. You want to avoid touching them at all. They'll detonate automatically for a bit, so don't worry about having to constantly dodge them."
"Heh, you certainty are full of tricks are you?"
"I sure am. Are you ready for another? Brimstone Rain!"
Calamitas shot a ball of energy up into the sky, which promptly detonated and hailed down flames.
As their fight progressed, Saitama had to keep avoiding every projectile that Calamitas fired at him. He noted, with slight surprise, that he was actually having to focus a bit to maneuver through her attacks. They were fast and overwhelming, and he was impressed that she wasn't even showing signs of fatigue yet.
Suddenly Calamitas appeared in front of Saitama, She moved at such a speed that he was caught off guard by it. She thrust her hands forward, expelling a wave of flames so intense that everything it touched turned to magma. Saitama was caught right in the center of the blast, and he was shocked.
'I... felt that?!'
Calamitas had to dispel her attack quickly, lest she wanted to turn the entire forest into a pit of lava. But as soon as she lowered her hands, she heard a voice behind her.
"Killer move serious series. Serious Punch!"
Calamitas turned around too late to dodge. The fist was already almost upon her. Calamitas could tall by looking at it that this punch was a hell of a lot stronger than the last one she took. In fact, she wasn't sure she would survive it without a permanent injury. at least, not without...
'dammit Saitama.'
Saitama's fist connected with Calamitas, and the result was utter destruction. A giant chasm was blown through the forest just by the wind pressure of the attack, and Calamitas was sent careening through it.
Lowering his fist, Saitama inspected the damage his attack caused.
"Calamitas?"
'Oh shit, I hope that didn't kill her! I assumed she could handle it after her last attack!'
"OW! God damn, that hurt!"
As the dust cleared, Saitama noticed something. Despite hearing her voice, Calamitas was nowhere to be found. What struck him as even stranger was that a giant demonic eye was righting itself from the chasm that Calamitas went through.
"Huh?"
The eye glowed, before it rapidly shrank, until Calamitas was standing there once again.
"What the hell was that? If I didn't activate my second form, that attack could have crippled me!"
"Wait, that giant eye was you? I've never seen anything transform like that."
"Well, I don't like using it unless I have to. It greatly increases my power and defense, but in addition to being grotesque, it was a curse put on me by the person I hate most."
"Wow. While I guess that I can understand why you don't like it! Are you still able to fight?"
"Of course. But I think we should call our match. Look at all the damage we caused."
The canyon was no more. It was replaced by a giant crater filled with lava and charred rock. There was also now a huge chasm spanning about halfway across the forest behind city Z.
"Yeah, I guess that would be for the best. I want to know though. Were you going all out?"
Calamitas smirked. "Not even close."
Saitama gained a huge dopey grin. "I can't wait to see your 100%."
"In that case, I don't know if the planet could handle an all out brawl between the two of us. That is, if you really think you can handle it."
"Hah! We'll have to find a way to make it happen."
"You really like fighting huh?"
"It's not like it's all I care about. I just miss feeling the rush of a real fight. I want to be able to experience that again."
"That's understandable. I'd be lying if I said that I didn't enjoy a challenge as well."
"Hey. You know. There's other rooms next to my apartment. I'm sure you could rent one out if you wanted. Don't worry. It's dirt cheap."
"I think I'll do that. I need a place to live anyway."
"How about we go out for udon tonight? My treat."
"Sure. I could eat."
"Alright then, let's go!"
A man with glasses looked shocked at the feed coming from his computer.
"Sir, come look at this. I think I've found the source of the tremors people were feeling in city Z earlier today."
A man with a beard came over and stared dumbfounded at the sight before him.
"Dear god, didn't there used to be a canyon there? What kind of being could do something like this?"
"I don't know, but whoever it was, we can't allow them to go unrecorded. We need to find whoever did this and either destroy them if they prove a threat, of recruit them. Someone with the capabilities to do something like this would be S-class for sure."
"Very well. Send some heroes to scope out city Z. With luck, this walking natural disaster will be on our side."
'The Hero Association could use power like this. And if it's a monster, well I don't want to even think of that.'
PLEASE READ! Before anyone gets mad: No, Calamitas is not stronger than Saitama. That would ruin the whole point of his character/ruin his character growth. I will say however, that barring Saitama, Calamitas is stupid OP in the One Punch Man verse, and could probably beat any other character given what they've shown. For those of you unfamiliar with Calamity, Calamitas is stronger than literal gods. That's all I had to say.
