So, a few things.

A) Sorry this chapter took a while to get out. I got logged out of my account and had trouble logging back in.

B)This chapter is mostly filler, so it's a lot shorter. Think of it as an interlude.

C) I'm going to be taking a bit of a break from this story to update my other stories.

With those things out of the way, let's move on to reviews!

Stupid Op: Thank you SO much for pointing that out! I was subconsciously doing that without noticing. I hope that this chapter is a little better in that regard.

Just an Anime Fan: Thanks man! Saitama will indeed have more of a role in the coming chapters.

As always, be sure to review!

"So, let me get this straight. The House of Evolution, the result of your lifetime of research, is being shut down?"

"That's right, yes."

"All because a group of vigilantes broke in, defeated Carnage Kabuto, and changed your outlook on life?"

"Correct."

"And I'm supposed to believe this story?"

"Zombieman, I am not asking for your forgiveness. I realize that I do not deserve it. I simply wished to inform you on what I am doing. Mainly because I plan on using my intellect and recourses to join forces with the Hero Association, should they accept my offer anyway."

Zombieman bore a hole through Genus with his glare, trying to find any sign of deceit. Eventually, he sighed and softened his gaze, if only barely.

"It is hard for me to believe that you are not up to something. Even if the Hero Association accepts your assistance, I'll be keeping tabs on you."

"That is something I'm willing to accept. Now, I suppose that I should be getting back to my lab. Preparation's need to be made before I contact the Hero Association."

As Genus stood up and left, Zombieman was left to his thoughts. 'I don't believe for a second that he's changed. But if what he said is true, that there is a vigilante powerful enough to take out Carnage Kabuto, then that is something interesting indeed.'

A couple of days had passed since the House of Evolution incident. Genos had asked to move in with Calamitas, but she had turned him down, even when he offered to pay the rent.

"A lady's got to have her privacy. Besides, why can't you move into the next apartment over?"

So that's what Genos did. Over the course of the next couple of days Calamitas had begun teaching Genos how to access his mana.

"Using your mana is much easier when you channel it through an object. Some of the easiest ones are books or staffs. Since I can't find any staffs anywhere, We'll start with this book Saitama gave me. I think he was using it to balance his table or something."

Genos took the book and looked at it curiously. "I see."

"Well, the book is going to be used later. First, you need to be able to sense your mana. In order to discover your mana, however cliché it may be, you need to meditate. Well, something similar anyway."

"Forgive me, but I am not aware on how meditating works."

"It's fairly simple. You close your eyes and empty your mind. Once you've managed that, you search your mind for a blue glow. Once you find that, you will have unlocked your mana."

"So my goal is to close my eyes and focus on nothing besides locating my mana?"

"That's the basic gist, yes."

Genos' eyes went black, and he sat down.

'Right. Forgot that his eyes are mechanical.'

Calamitas figured that since Genos was such an analytical person that he would take a while to settle his mind down. That being said, she left him to his training and went to go visit Saitama.

"Good morning Saitama, how are you doing today?"

Calamitas peeked her head into Saitama's apartment to see him staring at the TV, sweating.

"Witness reports state that all the Paradisers have shaven heads, making them look quite intimidating. If you see a bald man on the streets, keep your distance."

"Bastards! Those thieves! They stole my look!"

Calamitas looked at Saitama confused. "I don't quite get why your getting so worked up about this."

"You don't understand! I spent all this time being a hero, but if these jerks keep this up, I'll be treated like a villain!"

Calamitas looked over at the TV to see a live report of the group of the people that were causing havoc.

"they're all wearing these matching battle suits though. I'm sure you'll be fine."

Saitama calmed down a little. "Oh. I guess that is true. I still want to go kick their butts though."

Calamitas smirked and rolled her eyes. "Of course you do. Just don't kill them, okay?"

"Yeah, I know. I'll be back later!"

With that, Saitama opened the door and jumped to the ground to go take care of the Paradisers.

Calamitas went back into Genos' apartment to check on how he was doing. The cyborg was still sitting down when she got back, but after a couple of minutes, his eyes came back to life and he stood up.

"Calamitas, I believe that I have succeeded in locating my mana!"

"That fast? Quite impressive!"

"You said to look for a blue glow correct?"

"Yes. You should be able to sense your mana in the back of your mind. Now, our second goal is to access that mana. That is where the book comes in. The book is used as a focus for your mana, making spells more potent and effective, as well as using less mana. We don't want to attempt anything too advanced yet, so you'll just try and make the book glow."

"I see. How do I go about transferring my mana into the book?"

"It couldn't be more simple. All you have to do is think about making the book do what you want, and it will do as such."

"That is unbelievably easy."

"To be honest, the hardest part of casting spells is building up your mana reserves."

Genos Held the book up, and a blinding white flash came forth from it, encompassing the entire apartment complex.

As the flash died down, Calamitas Rubbed her eyes aggressively, trying to get her vision back.

"OW! Genos, how much of your mana did you use?!"

"I did not know how much was required, so I used all of it."

"ALL OF IT?!" Ok, you don't want to do that, ever. Not only is it completely unnecessary, but your mana takes time to recharge! you probably won't be able to cast anything else for a good half an hour now. If you ever do that in a fight, you'll be up the creek if you have no other options!"

"I understand. I shall take note of that for future reference."

"Another thing we'll have to work on is making you talk more like a person and not a robot."

"I apologize for that. Ever since I have become a cyborg the only person I have talked to consistently is Dr. Kuseno. As such, my social skills are severely lacking."

"I suppose that only makes sense."

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Calamitas went to open it, only to find Dr. Genus standing there.

"Ah, there you are. I was hoping that I would be able to have a chat with you."

"Oh? What do you need to talk to me about?"

"Actually, it would be nice if I could talk to both of you."

Genos was eyeing Genus up. He still didn't completely trust that the doctor had changed.

"What do you need to discuss with us? We are rather busy at the moment."

"It will only take a moment, I promise you."

"Come on Genos, let's here him out."

Genos said nothing, but followed them out of the apartment anyway.

"Have either of you heard of the Hero Association?"

Calamitas tilted her head slightly. "No, I don't believe that I have.

Genos kept his stoic look. "I have, but I have not felt the incentive to join."

"I figured as such, seeing as the three of you weren't registered. Speaking of, where is your bald friend? Saitama, I believe his name was?"

"Oh, he's out dealing with some terrorists. He should be back later."

"Well, if you could pass my request on to him, that would be appreciated. I was wondering if the three of you would be interested in joining this association. I have plans to attempt to join forces with them, and having registered heroes vouch for me would help my chances of being accepted. I should also add that depending on where you are ranked, the pay is very good."

Calamitas perked up at the mention of money. "Oh? I am in need of a job, and I suppose that I don't have much to lose. Perhaps registering is not such a bad idea."

"If my master is registering, then I shall register as well."

Genus smiled. "Excellent! With your capabilities, you should have no problem passing the test!"

"There's a test?"

"Well, of course! Being a hero is a dangerous job, so they can't just have anybody joining. The test consists of a physical and written exam. None of you should have any trouble with the physical test, and I have heard that the written portion is just common sense. There is also a special abilities category, and while it doesn't affect your score, it can help you get ranked higher."

"I see. Thank you for the information."

"Of course. I need to be getting back to my lab, so please pass my message along to your friend."

"Okay. We'll be sure to but in a good word for you, won't we?"

Calamitas looked over at Genos, who remained silent.

"Whatever."

"Speed O' Sound Sonic? Why would anyone give themselves such a redundant name?"

"I don't know. The guy just declared himself my rival and took off. But it's what he said that's got me upset."

"What did he say? Did he call you bald or something?"

Saitama glared at Calamitas, who just smirked at him. "That's not what I'm upset about! He said 'Never heard of you.' I'm the guy who's out being a hero for fun! I've taken down so many bad guys I've lost count! How does nobody know who I am?!"

"Well, this seems like as good a time as any. Dr. Genus stopped by earlier."

"Who?"

"The guy from the House of Evolution."

"Oh yeah! The dude with the glasses!"

"Yes. Well he informed us about this 'Hero Association'. Maybe the reason no one notices you is because you aren't registered."

"Wait! There's an entire association for heroes?! I had no idea!"

"Neither did I. Genos and I are going to register tomorrow. There's going to be a written and physical test. The written test is probably going to ask us what to do in certain situations. I think I know you well enough to know what you're going to do, so please, think the questions through and don't just answer 'punch it.'"

"Oh. Ok. Why does the test even matter?"

"You're ranked depending on how you score. The higher you're ranked, the more you're payed. I think you know where I'm going with this."

Saitama was suddenly a lot more serious. "I have to ace this."

"That's the spirit. I'll see you tomorrow. Oh. One more thing. Genus is planning to have the House of Evolution merge with the Hero Association, and he wants us to put in a good word for him."

"Oh, ok."

Calamitas exited Saitama's apartment and went back to her own, exited about the coming day.

Chapter over! Be sure to review, and I'll see you in the next one!
