Sam was actually glad to reconnect with Bobby, who was very amused that he had landed twin girlfriends who hated demons almost as much as the hunters did. Still, they were soon on the hunt again, at least to pass the time.
Sam discovered soon after that in order to get anywhere before nine in the morning, he would have to either bribe his girlfriends, or carry them to the Impala where they would curl up and continue sleeping until some internal clock woke them up. Frankly Sam thought putting them in the car was less hassle.
And highly entertaining for anyone outside to watch, seeing two grown girls picked up by their tall friend and put into the car, still snoring away.
Faith tended to sleep better in the front with the seat leaning back, while Grace liked the stretch out in the back seat itself.
Sam actually wondered how they were planning to sleep in once Dean returned and took over the driver's seat again. He'd seen them try to sleep against each other... it never worked.
Which was why he brought it up after a hunt while they made a quick getaway from the town they were staying in.
"How are we going to sleep in when you find a way to bring Dean back?" asked Faith.
"That's... actually a good question," said Grace.
A few days later, they found a solution...one that had Sam scratching his head on how they accomplished it without destroying the car in the process.
"So... how did you pull this off?" asked Sam when Faith demonstrated how the upper half of the back seat could now be pulled down to reveal a large empty area.
"Sub-space dimension," started Faith.
"And a few things from the hardware store," finished Grace.
"Say what now?"
The twins giggled.
"Okay, so you've run into a Trickster before, right?"
Sam made a face at the reminder. If he ever saw Loki he was shooting him in the ass, god or not.
"We've met."
"We'll where we came from, we're considered like tricksters only we use a focus to channel our ability," said Faith. It was easier to call themselves human Tricksters than to explain they weren't even from the same planet. And that was before they got into their father's real nature.
"You're like Tricksters?" said Sam. That...actually explained a lot.
"We have magic."
"But not the demon-dealing kind."
"Idiots who make deals with the pit are nothing compared to what we can do," said Grace.
"So about this weird little spot in the back seat?" said Sam. He could think about this later, when he wasn't so confused.
"We went down to a hardware store and found a way to remove the upper half without damaging it," said Faith.
"After that we had to adjust the trunk a little, since removing that part opened up a way into it without actually opening the door itself," said Grace.
"Coincidentally that thing can hold a large fridge now," said Faith dryly.
"Wait, you increased the space of the trunk so it can hold more weapons? Can you do that for the leg space?" asked Sam.
"We figured you might ask that, because that was the second thing we did. You can properly stretch out in the front and back seat now," said the twins amused.
Sam always felt cramped in the car, unless he pulled the seat back all the way. It was a downside of being so tall. Finding out they could increase the space without harming the car made it easier for Sam to forgive the fact his girlfriends had magic.
"So about this spot?"
"We created a pocket space, one that can be accessed from the back seat."
"We added hinges so that your brother wouldn't notice that we tampered with his car," said Grace.
"Smart."
"So how does this work exactly?" asked Sam looking at the space. It was relatively simple and even had some pillows and a couple of blankets in there. He could even see a latch so they could open the space from the inside and it wasn't air tight so they could still breath.
"Try crawling in," suggested Faith. They had made it for him too.
They were parked in an abandoned lot near a house and Sam figured 'what the hell, why not?', so he awkwardly climbed onto the newly added hinge. He found it easy to slid in and there was plenty of room to move for someone as big as he was.
"Perhaps we should have made it a bit bigger," said Faith as Sam found an smoother way to climb over the seat. Having one of the front seats leaned back all the way made getting in and out much easier.
It was just big enough for someone like Sam, but that was about it. Getting out with more than two people in the car would be difficult at worst and would require some rather interesting maneuvering at best.
"I take it that you two will be sleeping in here from now on when I bring you out in the mornings?" said Sam.
"Not until Dean comes back," said Grace.
"Then we can see his reaction to the fact we altered his precious car without anyone being able to tell," said Faith amused.
Sam choked back a laugh. When Dean saw what they did to the car, he was going to flip! Still, when they were done adjusting the space itself, Sam saw several advantages to having it.
For one thing, when they weren't using it as a sleeping area, it was a great place to store some not-so-legal items like guns and extra bags of salt. Or, in the case of a highly amused Faith and Sam, five massive super soakers with a rosary inside the water tank and a charm to keep it permanently full of water made by Grace.
Sam had a lot of fun using those on a warehouse of demons, which gave the twins time to exorcise them.
The trio was crashing in Bobby's house with the Impala around the back when they heard a commotion. As per usual, Sam didn't even bother trying to wake the twins before nine at the earliest. Since he knew Bobby was at the house he rolled over and went back to sleep.
That quickly changed when he heard a voice that had him almost stumbling out of bed to scramble downstairs.
"Ugh... what time is it?" asked Faith.
"8:30," replied Sam. He was used to them being barely functional this early.
"I would say go back to sleep but you owe us caffeine for this Sammy," said Grace yawning. The two managed to get dressed, Sam not even looking back as he anxiously awaited for them to wake up.
Once they were relatively dressed (or at least decent) he went downstairs.
It was Dean.
"Sammy?" he said surprised. Then his eyes bulged when he caught a glimpse of the twins behind him yawning like no tomorrow.
Bobby snapped a photo of Dean's expression. Sam would have too if he hadn't been hugging his brother for the first time in far too long.
"Need...caffeine..." said Grace.
Bobby poured from a separate machine for the two of them, who downed two cups of the scorching hot tea before yelping at the heat. They grabbed a third cup and drank that at a more sedate pace. He had learned pretty quick that neither sister liked coffee, so he had gotten a separate machine for when they dropped by. They paid for it and the brews.
"So who are the zombie twins?"
"The one in black is Faith, and the one in white is Grace," said Sam.
"Aren't you going to..." started Bobby, before he saw Sam getting his cameraphone out and aim it at Dean. His brother was utterly baffled why until Sam then dropped another bombshell.
"They're my girlfriends," said Sam.
Dean was only barely aware that his brother and surrogate father were taking multiple pictures of his expression, like someone had slapped him with a fish.
The twins giggled and immediately went to cozy up to a grinning Sam.
"You mean to tell me that in the time I was in hell my baby brother has hit the holy grail of hotties...?" said Dean finally.
"Sammy is so much more of a man than anyone else who's tried to date us," said Grace.
"Of course he's also the only one who's ever kept our interest for more than a few days without being pranked," finished Faith.
Dean put his hand on Sam's shoulder.
"Sammy?" said Dean.
"Yes Dean?"
"I'm so proud of you!" said Dean with stars in his eyes.
The twins laughed outright at his expression. Sam and Bobby both chuckled as well. Trust Dean to think that getting twin girlfriends was a noteworthy accomplishment.
"Coincidentally," said Faith.
Dean turned to look at her, wondering why her nose was scrunching up.
"When were you planning to take a shower? You reek," said Grace.
Dean winced, but took the hint gracefully.
Sam and Bobby were on hand when Dean noticed the strange latch in the back seat. Bobby had been very impressed with their little trick to add more space in the car...and he had laughed when he found out why they had done it. He knew that the girls were pretty much zombies in the morning.
"What the hell did you do to my baby Sammy?" asked Dean a little too calmly.
"Not me. Them. Trying to wake them up in the mornings is an exercise in absolute futility, and when I asked them how they were going to sleep in once you got back they came up with this," said Sam.
Dean undid the latch and found... a space bigger than the trunk?
"Why are there pillows and blankets in here? And what's with the salt and water guns?"
"Holy water guns, actually. Should have seen that bitch Ruby's face when I used one on her," said Sam automatically.
"As for the pillows and blankets," said Faith.
"It's easier to climb inside that area and sleep than it is trying to deal with the seat belt buckles," said Grace.
"We also made more room for you to stretch out and the trunk can now hold more than ever," said Faith.
"And when it's not used as an area to sleep in, it doubles as a place to hide the less-than-legal items we use," said Sam.
"Who's bright idea was it to mess with my baby?"
"Ours, and if you keep complaining you'll find out why we were considered the female Gemini-Loki of our school," said the twins in unison.
"Who were the guy ones?" asked Sam, curious.
"Our older brothers, Fred and George," said Grace.
"Not related by blood, but they still treated us like their little sisters," said Faith.
"And they had more collective detentions than most of our house combined," said Grace.
"House?"
"We lived in a boarding school for eight years in Scotland. One that was divided by four houses. Ours was noted for being rather brave and headstrong. Our rivals were sneaky and ambitious," shrugged Faith.
"And the other two?"
"Loyalty and hard work, while the last was intelligence and creativity."
"Sounds like a perfect match for Sam," snorted Dean.
"Anyway, how are we going to find the angel responsible for dragging his ungrateful arse out of the pit?" asked Faith.
"How do you know it's an angel?" asked Sam.
"Only one thing in this alternate Earth would have the power to bring him out of the pit and heal the wounds dealt by those hell hounds, and that's an angel. Hell, he reeks of Grace and I know he's not one of those winged pests!" said Faith flatly.
"Too bad looking at their true form burns people's eyes out...and most of them tend to speak Enochian instead of the Queen's English," said Grace sourly.
"How would you know that?" asked Bobby.
"Our dad is an angel," they said in unison.
"An angel," deadpanned Sam. They made a lot of claims but this one topped them all.
"Wouldn't that make you two Nephilim?"
"Not really. Our parents were humans with an extra gene in them, but our origins come from our father's grace. God said if he wanted to come back home he had to prove he was really worthy of redemption," said Faith.
"Which means we have to keep Micheal from trying to destroy the planet when Lucifer breaks out," said Grace.
"Say what now?"
"Lucifer is locked up in hell under a ton of locks. The first of which was broken when Dean spilled blood in hell. It was why heaven dragged him out. When Lucifer breaks free, Micheal will descend onto Earth and try to take his true vessel to finish the fight," said Faith.
"However that would result in half the planet being trashed and humanity little more than an afterthought. Lucifer wins, things go to hell in a hurry. Micheal wins, and humanity gets enslaved. Either way you would be screwed," said Grace.
"Is there any way to stop it?" asked Bobby.
"Father would have to be forgiven and allowed to go home. But doing that without heaven figuring out what's going on is difficult. Very difficult," they said in unison.
"Either way, chances are that the angel responsible for dragging you out will try to make contact," said Faith.
