There are five groups of people in this world. Each firmly placed on a certain spectrum of power.

The most common (and by extension the weakest on the power pyramid) are the normals. Everyday people living normal lives with no idea of the world around them.

The second are the Wesen. Originally squibs born with a unique disposition towards animals, their latent magic mutated until they became a species all their own. They are just above the normal folk.

The third are the magicals. People with a strong talent towards extraordinary abilities such as shape-shifting, telekinetic ability, bizarre 'spells' that defy explanation and 'potions' which can cure almost any disease. They are the middle of the power pyramid solely because of internal wars and prejudices which keep them from working together.

The second are the Grimms. Charged with keeping things 'in-house', they are the lone guardians keeping the balance of power between the first three groups from getting out of hand. They are gifted with the unique ability to see through transformations, to see the true form of things, and the ability to resist most kinds of 'magic'. Though their primary focus is to keep the Wesen contained, when things get too heated they do intervene with magical conflicts.

The last, and considered the strongest on this pyramid, are the Royal Families. People who have held the reigns of power for centuries and have placed themselves as 'royalty' above all else, they seek to regain their influence on the other four groups that they lost when 'humanity' or normal folks, started to expand faster than they could contain within the last two centuries. They will stop at nothing to regain their lost influence.

The world is at a crossroads...and one woman will tip the balance once and for all.

Serenity 'Rena' Potter hated her life. Ever since she was a child, she knew about her unique ability to change.

Though it wasn't until she was eleven that she discovered the full extent of her powers.

Rena was the daughter of Lily Evans, a woman who came from a long line of Grimms. She also had enough magical power to be considered a witch, and went to a school to learn how to train this ability...at the cost of her relationship with her elder sister. A fact that had come to hurt her daughter more than Lily when her mother was killed. She was also the child of James Potter, a pure blood magical...and a fact she hadn't known until very recently, one of the hidden Royal branches of England.

After humanity got sick and tired of the magicals always keeping the peasantry down, and because of the work of some overly-religious Grimms, the balance of power shifted against the magicals and the Wesen.

However as a consequence, this feeling also extended to the Royals of the time. It didn't help that the French were having their own troubles, or that the 'lower rabble' were planning a revolt.

In order to preserve the bloodline, one of the last descendants of the Knights of the Round married into one of the older, more established magical lines. One that had connections to the druids, who were heavily favored by Merlin before his departure. It was mostly to preserve the bloodline, since the magicals became so secluded it was unlikely the Church would be successful in killing them off.

And while the family's reputation took a distinct nose dive into being considered 'dark', the blood remained true. The descendant of the Knight remained hidden inside the magical communities, as only the family knew of the bloodline.

That family...was the Blacks. And while their influence and money might have disappeared, they were noteworthy for their ability towards the more earth and blood based spells...and a unique ability that was considered a gift from the earth goddesses.

Complete transformation. A gift that was considered breed out of the family because of rampant inbreeding among magicals.

Or was, until recently. While Draco hadn't inherited this valuable ability, Rena and Tonks had.

However unlike Tonks, Rena had chosen to exercise this rare ability in different and far more creative ways.

She mimicked Wesen to the point that she could be mistaken for one by natural Wesen like Blutbad.

As a side effect, most of the teachers believed that her father animagus ability overwrote her ability to change into normal people. A belief she was more than happy to continue if it meant they couldn't recognize her when she finally got fed up with them.

At least she had someone by her side. After four years of dealing with her 'minders' (she refused to call them friends after the debacle last year) she had found the one person in the entire school who wasn't enamored with the nonsense of her surviving a death curse.

As she found out last year by accident, it was likely more due to luck than any natural defense against the damn thing.

Voldemort's lackey Malfoy had shot a killing curse at her while she ran for the goblet that dumped her in the graveyard, and she had grabbed the first thing she could...a pocket mirror she had taken to carrying when she discovered how often spells reflected off shiny surfaces.

The thing had bounced off the mirror and hit another Death Eater. She would later learn Pansy's father had been killed by Lucius Malfoy...a fact that actually brought her some degree of entertainment as the girl promptly dumped Draco the moment she found out it had been his father's spell reflected off a cheap compact mirror that killed her father.

A fact she had been quick to capitalize on by remarking loudly before the students got off the train that Draco clearly took after his loser father more than his mother, since he couldn't hit worth a damn with his wand either. Because she was quick to go through the pillar, he couldn't retaliate...but she did get a good look at his pissed off expression, which made the shot entirely worth it.

Either way, she spent more time owling her new best friend than she did her minders...a fact they were quick to notice and complain about.

She hated magicals.

She perked up when she saw Hedwig flying her she gave her owl a treat, she opened up Luna's letter.

'Rena, I know your birthday is in a couple of days, so I convinced Daddy to help make a portkey that leads straight to my house. Best of all the Weasley's have been out of their house for the past month, so we can hit Gringotts and get your passport before they find out you were here. Daddy said we're going to travel to Vienna for a few days, and you're welcome to join us.

Love,

Luna'

Rena was really the only friend Luna had. Ginny claimed to be her friend, but anyone with a pair of eyes could tell the girl was just using her.

The reason being greed. Luna was half-Wesen...specifically a rare breed called a Seltenvogel. They were considered the 'pet birds' of the Wesen world...and it wasn't uncommon for one of the more violent Wesen to force a Seltenvogel to abuse them and treat them because of a unique characteristic. Once in their life, they could 'deliver' an extremely rare stone that was shaped much like an egg. What made it so valuable was that the stone itself was rumored to be made of pure gold. It was incredibly fragile, and worthless if damaged in any way.

Because of this, the Seltenvogel were driven almost to extinction thanks to greedy idiots. Luna had been extremely afraid of anyone finding out what her mother had been, so she hid her true nature from everyone.

So the chance to be 'bonded' to Rena had been a blessing really. If she were already taken by someone strong enough to take all comers, no one would bother her or try to force her to grow the blasted thing to make it bigger than it would be naturally.

In exchange Rena got a friend who could care less about her reputation or ability to mimic Wesen. Luna had been surprised Rena could see her Wesen form without a spell, but once she understood Rena was half-Grimm (and awoke said abilities very early on because of her mother's death) it made more sense. It also meant she was nearly as hated as a 'muggle' in a pure bloody party.

Though the thing that made them friends was the fact Rena had no problems pretending to be a Hexenbiest to scare people off... even though she hated that particular breed of Wesen the moment she realized Lucius Malfoy was one...which by extension meant Draco had to be one as well.

Though technically a male Hexenbiest was commonly called a 'Lauber-biest'.

Either way, Rena hated them with a fierce and fiery passion. If she could strip Draco and his stupid father of their powers, she would without hesitation.

Rena took a pen and wrote a quick reply, making sure it was in German before she sent it off.

She knew five languages, and that was mostly because she didn't have any friends before Hogwarts. Outside of homework and the usually enforced chores since her aunt was so damn lazy, she had a lot of free time. And since she didn't plan on sticking around England once she hit her majority, she learned a new language. She had gotten up to five before Hogwarts, and was already working on her sixth.

That particular language was one she not-so-affectionately called "complete moron". It was one she had to develo because it was so desperately needed to translate most of the idiocy that contaminated the magical society.

Thankfully Luna helped her make great progress on that front.

Rena soon had her port key to the Lovegood home. Now all she needed was a chance to use it. It took her a few minutes to empty her trunk of anything worth keeping, and to hide her new backpack under her oversized shirt. Her wand was easily replaceable, and a quick transformation would rid her of any stalkers...and give her a chance to get a new wand without the trace.

"Bloody pig and his stupid groupies..." snarled Rena. On the plus side, after she stalked off she noticed Mrs. Figg breaking off to deal with her cats running after she let out a roar worthy of a pissed off Blutbad. Well, her cat and pretty much any animal in Surrey.

Because Figg wasn't Wesen or Grimm, and it was highly unlikely she had enough magic to use the spell that allowed magicals to see a Wesen's form, it was very unlikely she'd realized Rena had done that deliberately.

Once she was out of sight of her incompetent watcher and her fat cousin's group, Rena activated the port key. Not five minutes later a pair of dementors descended on Little Whinging. The Dursley's only salvation was that the Minister currently hated Rena enough that he sent an entire pack of aurors to arrest her once the wards started acting up enough to attract their attention.

The fact she was long gone meant they couldn't charge her with setting the dementors on the family...especially since no one realized that the house in question was her house of residence.

"OOF!"

The second she landed, Rena was tackled from behind. Fortunately, she knew exactly who the culprit was.

"I missed you too, Lulu," said Rena, hugging the girl.

Pale blue eyes turned a light golden hue as Luna woged.

"How are you feeling anyway?"

"I'm fine. This stupid thing is getting harder to hide, but I'm getting used to the scarves," said Luna.

To avoid anyone realizing what she was without woging right in front of them, it was common for a Seltenvogel to wear scarves out in public. At least until the stone in their neck was removed.

Luna's currently looked like some form of tumor, which made it awkward since you couldn't exactly remove the thing prematurely without risking the one carrying it. It was too close to an artery.

"So, now that we have that out of the way, why don't you show me around? I can't wait to meet your dad!" said Rena with genuine cheer. From what she heard about Luna's dad, he was a hoot.

"Serenity Potter. The resident Grimm of Hogwarts. It's a pleasure to meet you," said Xeno.

"I'm glad to finally meet you properly too sir. From what I understand the Quibbler is a magazine geared towards Wesen?"

"That's right," said Xeno.

"Well how would you feel about an article written by someone with the infamous books? Maybe a few stories of Wesen from a Grimm's point of view?" asked Rena.

Xeno perked up.

"You'd be willing to share from the books of the Grimms?" he asked hopefully. Having that in his magazine would definitely boost the sales.

"Outside of using them as reference books, I don't really read them much. Besides, I digitized them the first chance I had."

"Digitized?"

Rena grinned.

"You guys show me more about magicals and Wesen, and I'll get you up-to-date on Grimms and normals. About the only thing left is the royals, but I think we can agree avoidance is the best policy there," she said.

"A natural Ravenclaw," said Xeno approvingly.

"I'm only in Gryffindor because I let a certain moron influence my decision. Too bad they won't let me be resorted."

"Fortunately we have an appointment at Gringotts tomorrow. We can get your passport sorted out, and then we'll head out," said Xeno.

"So which room will I be staying in?"

"You can share with me!" said Luna brightly. Rena perked up.

"Girl's night in?" she asked hopefully. Luna brightened even more.

The closest Rena had ever come to a proper girl's night was when Hermione was in the hospital wing for cat features second year. Lavender and Parvati were thrilled when they learned Rena was interested in make-up, clothes and cosmetic spells.

Hermione, despite the fact she didn't have many friends, hated it whenever they talked about that kind of stuff instead of doing homework. She never seemed to understand that sometimes you had to take a break from work and just relax.

Which is also why she never learned there was a spell and a cheaper way than dumping several gallons of product to tame that bushy hair of hers. Rena, however, made a full list and kept a large stock of the things on it so she could disguise herself without magic.

Something she fully planned on using until they were safely in Gringotts.
