Chapter Ten: The Beifong
The next morning as the adults ate and talked amongst each other. Iroh, Khari, and Kimiko silently ate their meal. The adults soon noticed the silence between the three. Izumi gave her children a concerned look but the two stayed silent. Khari looked up when she felt someone staring at her to see her Aunt Kya with a slight smile on her face. She gave her a brief smile before she looked down at her food. When she felt someone touch her arm, she got up from the table without another word. Everyone watched as she rushed out of the room. Toph cleared her throat a bit as a smirk formed.
"You guys had sex last night, didn't you?" She asked.
"No, I mean that or that would have been an awkward conversation to have the whole time. He did want to kiss her though. I mean say it out loud Iroh, you've wanted to for years. C'mon Iroh, just admit it," Kimiko tormented.
"Shut up! Why can't you ever just shut up?! All you have to do is mind your business. No! That is too much to ask from you! You have to put your powdered, make- up covered nose in mine! I stay out of your business! Is it too much to ask for some damn privacy from you?! You want me to say I thought about kissing Khari?! Fine! I thought about kissing Khari! More times than I could count. Do I care about Khari? Yes! I love Khari Beifong Okay! Are you happy now?!" Iroh shouted as he slammed his fists on the table and stood, making his chair fall to the ground.
Everyone stared at him in silence as he breathed heavily. After a few minutes a metal strip cut Iroh's face. He turned his head towards the doorway to see Khari standing there with tears in her eyes. She quickly ran out of the room, quickly running out of the palace. Khari felt a gust of air under her feet so she started to follow it. Khari continued to follow the gust of air but it stopped when she reached her favorite spot with her grandfather. She saw a small box sitting on a bench. She slowly made her way towards the box. When she picked it up, she slowly ran her hand over the box as she wondered what could be in the box. As she was about to open the box Iroh yanked it out of her hands. Khari grunted a him as she tried to walk away. He grabbed her hand to stop her which made her pause for a bit. She bit her lip before she turned around to see him holding a necklace up and the box opened. She saw a small earth symbol on top of a slightly bigger fire symbol. Khari looked at the necklace a bit closer to see small fire and water symbols in the earth symbol and earth and air symbols in the fire symbol. She put her hand under the necklace for a moment to look at it better. She smiled at the necklace as she thought about her Grandpa Aang. She knew he would have loved the necklace. There was soon shouting in the courtyard which made the two turn their heads before they ran in the direction of the yelling. Everyone was soon in the courtyard where a guard was running towards them.
"Lord Zuko! Lord Zuko, I have urgent news from the White Lotus. They have the new avatar. A young girl from the Southern Water Tribe. Her name is Korra and she is the daughter of Senna and Tonraq. She is young but they think with the right teachers she could become a great avatar," the guard said.
"How do they even know this girl is the avatar? They've had so many false claims before maybe they made a mistake. She can't really show she is the avatar at a young age. She is what like three now. Plus no one will ever be as great of an avatar as my Grandpa Aang was. I don't care what the White Lotus thinks and I never will. They need to keep looking," Khari snapped.
Khari stormed off and mumbled to herself about the new avatar. Katara watched Khari leave with sadness in her eyes. She knew this day would come eventually but she knew it would hit Khari pretty hard. Katara knew that her husband had a special bond with Khari so she hopes that she could have a bond with Korra. As Khari stomped off, she started to cry. She knew that they had to find the new avatar but she didn't think they had to find her so soon. Khari soon ran into a scaly leg. She looked up to see Sakata looking down at her. The dragon put his head down, letting Khari put her head against his before placing her arm on him. She could tell that the dragon sensed how upset she was when she heard a small growl from him. She looked up still keeping her head against the dragon to see a few guards coming towards her. Khari moved closer to Sakata who now opened his wings and continued to growl. The guards stood their ground, making Sakata lift his front feet and slam them on the ground. Khari fell to the ground but she didn't dare to move. Everyone soon came to see what had caused the large crash. Iroh saw Khari inches from Sakata's feet. Iroh started to march towards the dragon who took a step back, almost stepping on Khari. Iroh stopped where he was as he saw the scared look on her face. Khari gave Iroh the look they gave each other when they had an idea that usually got them in trouble. She made some arm motions and he tilted his head before he nodded.
"Are you crazy? That will never work!" Iroh shouted.
Khari made a face, making Iroh sigh. He started to move his arms in a circular motion, creating a giant fire circle. Sakata rose his head a bit, giving Khari a chance to get away. Sakata opened his mouth but Khari wrapped her cables around one of his legs. Khari pulled as hard as she could but she couldn't pull the leg. Sakata pulled his leg closer to him but Khari used her earthbending to prevent her from being pulled. Sakata opened his wings, quickly taking off. Khari looked down to see that she and Sakata were going pretty high in the air. She released her cables and hoped for the best. She closed her eyes as she fell but she felt someone's arms under her. She opened her eyes to see Iroh standing there with a smile on his face. Khari gave him a brief smile but it faded when Sakata landed. As he slowly made his way to them Khari looked up at Iroh for a moment before they both felt Sakata's wet tongue on their faces. Khari gaged as Sakata's saliva went down her face. Khari jumped down wiping her face and huffing a bit. Kimiko laughed at the two as they tried to get the saliva off as best as possible. Something told Khari that she needed to go somewhere else but when she tried to leave, she felt someone grab her wrist. She turned around to see Iroh staring at her again. She gave him a confused look for a minute but he kissed her. When he pulled away, she stood there for a few minutes in silence before she hurried off. Kimiko bit her lip before she started to laugh. Iroh shot Kimiko a look, making her stop laughing.
"What? Maybe you have bad breath or you're a terrible kisser," Kimiko laughed.
Iroh sighed as he stormed off towards the palace. The adults looked in the direction Khari and Iroh walked, then each other. The group decided to split to check on the two. Bumi, Katara, Kya, Sokka, Suki, and Toph decided to go check if Khari was. Izumi, Kimiko, Mai, and Zuko followed Iroh. Mala stood there for a moment before she got an idea, making her run to her room. When the group found Khari, she had her bow and a few arrows. As the group got closer Khari pulled an arrow out, slowly pulling it back. She released it but missed her target. She threw the bow and remaining arrows on the ground. She screamed before she sent her cables forward hoping she would hit something. She watched as her cable split a tree in half. When she pulled them back, she stared at the ground without speaking. Toph could tell Khari sensed them by her stance. Everyone knew Khari was very unpredictable with her bending when her emotions got involved. Khari soon looked over at everyone, but she was still silent. Toph sensed Khari's heartbeat which made her want to be a bit cautious. The group slowly walked towards Khari but she soon sent up a wall between the group and herself. Katara and Kya refused to give up with Khari. Toph took the wall down to reveal Khari had fallen to her knees. Katara slowly made her way towards Khari, soon sitting in front of her. Khari looked up at the aging woman.
"Why did he have to kiss me? Why couldn't he just let things be the way they were? Why couldn't he just be Iroh my best friend?" Khari cried.
Katara pulled Khari close, trying to soothe her and explain things to her. Khari started to giggle a little as Sokka explained that when he was younger, he told Katara and Aang they had oogies. Khari smiled at them, knowing exactly what she had to do. In Iroh's room he started to shove his things in his bags to leave for base. He heard a knock at the door but he continued to pack his things. The door slowly opened with Iroh's family in the doorway staring at him with a concerned look. The group looked at Kimiko, nudging her in the room. She sighed as she trudged over to her brother. She shoved him, making him stop what he was doing. He threw what was in his hands down, quickly spinning around. Kimiko shoved him again. Iroh growled at her but she didn't care.
"You idiot. You're mad because she is confused. Khari gets confused on what she wants for breakfast some days. You expected her to make a decision like that. I haven't even made a decision like that for myself. Stop acting like this and go talk to her," Kimiko demanded.
Iroh turned around, pulling a letter out. He handed the letter with the official seal from the United Forces to Kimiko. She started to read it slowly then looked at her mother. Izumi quickly walked to the two as she took the letter from Kimiko's hands. Izumi read the letter then stared at the paper for a few minutes. She didn't think it was possible. She didn't think she could be overruled by the United Forces. She knew Iroh's actions made a bit more sense now. Izumi knew Iroh didn't want to tell Khari he had to leave. They all turned their heads when they heard a knock at the door. They saw Khari standing in the doorway with half a smile on her face. Everyone looked at Iroh then Khari. They figured it would be best to give the two some space to talk. Izumi placed the letter on the bed before she left the two alone. Iroh avoided eye contact with Khari but she walked over to him, pushing his chin up to make him look at her. She could tell something was bothering him, she always could. Iroh pulled away from Khari, looking at the letter on the bed. Khari picked it up, wondering why a piece of paper could bother Iroh so much. When she saw the official seal from the United Forces she froze. She didn't understand why he had to get this letter already. He had just gotten to the palace. She knew exactly why he got the letter. Yes, it said why he had to leave but she knew the true reason for the letter. They couldn't have what they wanted so Tenzin was going to make sure Khari didn't have what she wanted. She was happy that there was a chance of a promotion but Iroh still had to leave. She wrapped her arms around him, knowing he was upset that he had to leave. Iroh hugged her back placing his chin on her head as he tried not to cry. The door slowly opened and everyone stared at the two. Iroh finished packing his bags as Khari ran to her room, making sure she had the things she would have for the night. After Iroh had finished packing his bag everyone met in the courtyard to say goodbye. After everyone had said their goodbyes Iroh stared at the olive green-eyed girl in front of him. Kimiko nudge Khari a bit, making her look up at him. The two smiled at each other before Khari hugged him, pulling him tight.
"Don't worry I will situate this little problem of ours. My parents crossed the line this time. Good luck with the promotion and please come back to me safely," Khari whispered in his ear before she pulled back.
He gave her a look before she gave him a mischievous smile. She bit her lip before she turned her head slightly. She turned quickly kissing Iroh before she left. Iroh stared in Khari's direction for a bit before he smiled a bit. He grabbed his things, soon leaving for his post. Everyone looked in the both Khari and Iroh's direction before they looked at each other. In Khari's room she started to grab her things for tonight. When she thought she had everything she placed everything by the door. She waited for it to get dark outside before she grabbed her things. She quickly ran to Sakata's housing area, making sure she avoided everyone. When she entered the area, Sakata opened his eyes to see who entered his space. When he saw Khari, he lifted his head but Khari put her finger over her lips to tell him to stay quiet. She motioned for him to follow her but when they got out of the housing area Druk stood there. The two froze and Khari waited to see if anyone would walk out from behind the dragon. Khari stared at the older dragon, hoping he wouldn't alert the others. She watched as Druk headed off into his own sleeping area, making her breathe a sigh of relief. She jumped on Sakata and he took off. She told him to go to Republic City as quickly as he could. When Khari could see Republic City, she ordered Sakata to fly to City Hall. After they landed on the roof Khari told Sakata to lay down until she got back. The dragon instantly did as he was told as Khari ran for the door that was on the roof. She tried the doorknob but it was locked so she used her metalbending to unlock the door. She quickly ran inside to avoid detection but she had to hide behind a pillar as soon as she got in because the Council's page was still working. When she knew she wouldn't get caught she ran towards her father's office. She used her metalbending to open the door, quickly running in and shutting the door behind her. She started to look through her father's things to see if she could get any indication of what he would be doing the next day. A smile started to form as she thought about how she had been handed the best thing ever. She heard walking outside of the office so she moved to the corner behind two filing cabinets. When the door opened the Council Page walked over to Tenzin's desk, placing a few things down before leaving and locking the door again. Khari waited a few minutes before she finally crawled out. She ran out onto the roof, quickly jumping on Sakata. She had to think of where to hide until the time was right. It wouldn't be the easiest having a dragon with her. She looked around the city until she found the perfect spot. She had Sakata land on the tallest building in Republic City. She knew it would be hard for someone to spot them that way. She laid her things down before she laid her head against Sakata and they both slept for the night. In the morning Khari heard cars honking but she only pushed her head tighter against the warm dragon. Khari slept for a bit more before she woke Sakata and started to get ready. When they were ready Sakata took off towards City Hall as quickly as possible. Khari stared off into the distance as they flew through the sky as she thought about Iroh. She blamed herself that he had to go back to his base. When they arrived at City Hall Khari had Sakata land on the roof next to Oogi. As Khari walked in, she walked right past the Council Page. The page called out for her but she didn't stop moving. When Khari saw the large door, she kicked it, making it burst open. The Council and Lin all looked at the door to see her standing there. She began to slowly march in Tenzin's direction as she pointed at him.
"How dare you? HOW DARE YOU!? You used your position on the Council! You sent him away because you could! You thought no one would notice but someone did! I noticed! You selfish, bitter, prick!" Khari shouted at her father.
"Khari, Iroh put in for a promotion months ago. We all have to review the papers before we can let his commanding officers have the go ahead. I was a bit hesitant due to the fact it was Iroh," Tenzin tried to explain.
"LIAR! How you managed to convince all of these people to sign the papers to make it happen I don't know. Then my own mother stands by you as you lie and do all this stupid shit. For what? What did you accomplish Dad? Hurting me? Izumi? Kimiko? Lady Mai or Lord Zuko? Just drop dead you spiritual leader, airbending master wannabe!" Khari shouted at him.
Lin stared at Tenzin as he stood from his seat. Tenzin stared at Khari as she stood in her place. He could tell she was angry and she seemed to show no fear. He knew there was nothing he could say that could change her mind. Lin started to walk towards Khari but she moved her foot quickly shifting the ground under Lin. Everyone stared at Khari as she continued to stand her ground. Khari only continued to stare at Tenzin as she thought about what he did. She shifted her feet making the earth pop up under Tenzin, making him fly over the table. He stared at Khari as she pulled an arrow out. She quickly pulled her bow out and pulling the arrow back. She released the arrow only for it to be met with a wall made of earth. Khari took her cables, grabbing Lin and throwing her against the wall. Tenzin's head snapped in Khari's direction as Lin stayed where she was on the ground. Tenzin sent multiple air blast at Khari but she jumped on a nearby bench. She pulled a chunk of earth out, throwing it at him. Tenzin soon crashed into a bench, giving Khari a chance to step down from the bench. Tenzin slowly got up and sent a blast of air at Khari. She fell back against the wall but she didn't let that slow her down. She smirked as she stood and looked at her father. Tenzin created an air wheel and Khari created an earth wheel. The two made their way for each other and soon collided. Both Tenzin and Khari soon crashed into the wall and stayed on the ground for a bit. Khari was the first to attempt to try to get off the ground but it was difficult. She soon was able to push herself off the ground only to see her father standing as well. She ran towards him throwing a chunk of earth at him as he sent a blast of air at her. She was able to avoid the blast but Tenzin wasn't so lucky. Khari sprinted over to him, holding her sword in his face.
"Say it! I SAID SAY IT! Admit that you used your position on the council to send him away! Admit that you pulled something on the other Councilmembers so they would Agree! I WANT TO HEAR YOU SAY IT!" Khari demanded.
Lin finally looked up to see Khari pointing a sword in Tenzin's face. Tenzin stared into Khari's eyes as they started to water. He then looked at the sword that was only itches from his face. He knew if Khari really wanted to, she would shove the sword right through him without a second thought. He knew she wanted answers to why Iroh left. Khari never moved as she stared Tenzin in the eyes, knowing the answer to the question before he even opened his mouth. He sighed before he looked down at the ground. He closed his eyes before he looked back up at Khari again.
"Fine, you're right. I did it. I used my position on the council to have Iroh pulled back to his base. I convinced the others to pull him back. He wanted the promotion so I used now as the perfect time. Sometimes life isn't far Khari and Iroh has to learn being in the United Forces means he can be pulled at any time. So yes, I used my position to take him away," Tenzin admitted.
Khari only stared at Tenzin for a few moments before she looked up at the council. He had fooled them to hurt her. She knew she should be surprised but she wasn't. She knew her father would always do something like this. She looked over at her mother to see if she would still have the wool over her eyes. She could tell by the look on her face that her mother was still going to stand by her father's side. A tear finally fell from Khari's eyes, making Tenzin worry a bit. Tenzin's eyes widened as Khari started to shove her sword towards him. Lin sent her cables at Khari knocking her back against the wall. Khari soon felt a sharp pain in her side and lower back. She tightened her grip on her sword as she tried to stand up. The building soon shook, making everyone look around. Khari finally managed to get off the ground, quickly running for the door. Even through her exhaustion from the trip home to make the meeting Mala could tell something was wrong. Lin walked over to Tenzin to help him off the ground but Mala hurried over to the last spot Khari had been. She stared at the spot with wide eyes before she rushed out of the room. Lin and Tenzin only stared at each other before they went to the very spot Mala stood. On the stairway of the building just before the exit to the roof Khari continue to hold her side as she trudged up the stairs. When she finally exited the building, Sakata had his teeth bared at Oogi. Khari stumbled out of the building towards the dragon as the pain continued. Khari put her sword away and managed to crawl on Sakata. Sakata roared at Oogi before he took off. Khari managed to hang on as Sakata started to fly as fast as he could towards the Fire Nation. A police airship got in Sakata's way, but he only used his tail to knock it out of the ground. Mala pushed the door of the building open to see Sakata flying off. She saw the mess that was on the roof and hoped for the best. As they got closer to the Fire Nation, Khari started to slide until she fell off of Sakata which made him fly down for her swiftly. She fell against him with a thud, making her groan in pain. When they finally arrived at the palace and Sakata landed Khari slid off, propping herself against him for a moment. She soon began to walk towards the courtyard. As Khari entered the courtyard, she saw Lord Zuko and her Uncle Sokka moving hastily through. They stopped when they saw Khari standing, holding her side. Before anyone could say a word, Khari fell to her knees, soon falling completely to the ground. Sokka and Zuko ran over to Khari to see two daggers in her lower back and a large laceration on her right side, a few skin tears as well as other small cuts and contusions. The two men looked at each other, wondering what Khari could have possibly gotten herself into that could have done this. Zuko yelled out for some guards to find Katara and Kya while Sokka picked Khari off the ground and ran her to a healing room. The two men by Izumi making her stop where she was and turn to check that her eyes were okay. That Khari was back at the palace but had been hurt. She followed Sokka and Zuko to see Khari was pale from blood loss. When Katara and Kya finally entered the room they both stopped in their tracks. Katara ran over to see everything that was wrong when she slowly looked up at Kya everyone knew that it wouldn't be good. Kya made her way for the bed, turning Khari to the side that didn't have the laceration on it. Kya pulled the two daggers out of Khari's back and Katara put a cloth there until they could try and get the laceration under control. While Khari was being treated, she had flashbacks or spiritual connections. She didn't know what they were.
Khari was walking around in the darkness when she soon saw a light. She shook her head and refused to go near it. She took a step back, making the spot start to glow and grass start to sprout up. She stumbled back a bit, falling to the ground which made more bright colored grass pop up. She stood before she started to walk then the place started to turn into Air Temple Island. Khari spun around, trying to figure out what was going on. She heard laughter behind her which made her smile. When she turned around, she saw her grandfather standing there. She ran over to him, hugging him. She didn't know what was going on.
"Grandpa Aang, what's going on? Where am I? Did I die? I don't want to die. I'm scared. Why aren't you answering me?" Khari panicked.
"Everything will be alright. Do not worry yourself my strong little earthbender. Think of only happy thoughts, even if they aren't with me. One day you will forget all about this incident I must go now but remember you are strong and you will make it," Aang assured her.
A few hours later Khari slowly began to open her eyes. She started to look around to see that she was in one of the healing rooms. She noticed that she didn't have a shirt on and that her whole upper body was covered in bandage wraps. She still felt the pain in her side and lower back but she knew that was probably going to happen. She had acquired some form of injury. When she continued to scope out the room, she noticed two of her daggers were on a table next to the bed. When she picked them up, they were covered in blood. She knew that would explain the pain in her back. She was trying to remember everything that happened but it seemed that everything was a bit foggy. She knew that they would ask what happened but she is having problems putting all of it together. She heard the door start to open, turning all of her attention to the entrance. When the door finally opened Izumi, Katara, Kya, Sokka, and Zuko walked in. Khari repositioned herself a bit to try and make the pain lessen but it only made the pain worsen as she moved. She groaned as she plopped back onto the bed. She held her side as she started to piece together more and more of what happened. Khari soon felt wet which made her grab her side as the pain started to worsen. Katara and Kya ran over to Khari as she tried to make the room stop spinning. Khari tried to put her hand on the table next to the bed but missed, making her fall to the ground. She groaned as the room spun even faster. Everyone looked as Khari soon laid in a pool of her own blood. Katara closed her eyes, opening them slowly but not looking at anyone. She knew that healing alone wouldn't be able to help Khari this time. The bleeding was too severe and they couldn't seem to get it under control no matter how hard they tried. Katara soon felt everyone staring at her which made her look up.
"I know what we have to do. It's the only way she will make it or even have a chance. I... um I have to use bloodbending. I have to try and stop all the blood from going to that spot. Zuko is going to have to stay so he can use his firebending to create enough heat to close the wounds enough that Kya and I can keep everything under control. Kya will stay to heal what Zuko is doing as it is being done to try and prevent any scars. This is our only option," Katara said.
"Katara, are you sure this is really the only option? I mean bloodbending?" Sokka questioned.
"I know. I don't like it any more than you do. I have no option. Khari will die. I've already lost Aang I can't lose Khari too," Katara responded.
Sokka looked at Khari before he sighed and nodded. He and Izumi quickly left the room to let the three work. Katara sighed as she turned her attention back to Khari. She was grateful that of all the nights this had to happen it was on a full moon. Kya and Zuko stared at Katara as she took a deep breath. Katara stared at Khari, soon letting a tear fall. She started to bloodbend Khari but there was only silence. Everyone noticed how very little blood was coming out of the wound. Zuko and Kya ran over to Khari quickly doing everything Katara had instructed. Katara continued to let tear drops fall as she remembered the first time, she used bloodbending. She now thought about how she was using this awful thing on her own granddaughter. When Katara could tell the wound would be able to be able to be treated by healing alone she stopped. She ran out of the room, passing Sokka and Izumi. Sokka looked back at Katara before he walked into the room to see that her idea had worked. Khari's bleeding was manageable now. Some bandages and she would be fine. Sokka thought about what the toll took on Katara to get it that way though. Sokka picked Khari off the ground, gently placing her in the bed for Kya to finish the healing session. He then went to go look for Katara only to find her silently crying in the courtyard. He gave her a small smile before he made his way over to her. He didn't know exactly what he would say to her only that he had to say something. He sat down next to her, placing a hand on her back.
"Katara, I know how hard that had to be for you. You saved Khari's life. Sure, you did something that wasn't the most ideal but she is a child and you saved her. Things have been rough since Aang's death but I couldn't imagine if we lost Khari too. You did what you thought what was best for her. Please try to not beat yourself up for this," Sokka tried comforting her.
Katara tried to smile at Sokka but only failed. She knew all those things already but it didn't ease her mind with what she did. Katara soon went to check on Khari to make sure her idea actually did work. When she got in the room Khari was resting peacefully as if nothing had happened. Katara gave Khari a slight smile as she pulled the blanket up. Over the next three days Katara was in the room the whole time. The following afternoon Khari started to groan a bit before she opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was Katara smiling at her. Katara had tears in her eyes as she continued to stare at Khari.
"Sokka! Sokka, come in here! She's awake! She's finally awake!" Katara shouted.
Everyone ran in the room to see Khari with a small smile on her face. Kimiko ran over to Khari, wrapping her arms around her. Khari winced a bit but slowly wrapped her arms around Kimiko. When Kimiko pulled away everyone stared at her. Khari could only look down. She knew what they wanted but it was hard to remember. She only remembered bits and pieces. The parts she remembered she wished she didn't.
"Khari, what happened? Where did you go? Why did you take Sakata?" Izumi questioned her.
Khari stared at the blankets as she tried to piece together the puzzle. The puzzle that didn't make sense to her. She took a deep breath as she closed her eyes, hoping it would work better.
Khari saw a brief image of herself yelling at her father. She saw quick images of her fighting her father. Ther next thing she saw froze. She had her sword in her father's face. She watched as her father admitted to sending Iroh away. She went to swing her sword at him but she hit the wall.
"Agh! I only remember a bit. Ow, spirits my side hurts. The only part that matters out of all of this is I know why Iroh left. My father used his position on the council to persuade the other councilmembers and they all signed those papers. My father abused his position to pull Iroh back to the United Forces to hurt me. I don't know what to do anymore," Khari sighed.
"We will figure it out. Let me fix up your side first th-" Kya started but was soon interrupted by Khari.
"NO! Stop! You guys do this every time. I'm not a little girl anymore. Every time something bad happens you try to distract me. Stop it! Just get out!" Khari shouted.
Everyone stared at Khari before she stuck her hand out. She held it inches from the wall so they all hurried from the room. She pulled the blanket over her head as she thought about what happened. It wasn't fair. They sent her away and they still took things from her. She missed Iroh and hoped he would be okay. She hoped to see him soon.
At the closest United Forces Camp
Iroh kicked a few pebbles as he waited for someone to tell him when he would have his final examination to determine if he would get promoted. Iroh really hoped that all of this was worth this. He missed Khari and his thoughts continued to wander to her. He soon heard his name, making him stand at attention. An officer handed him a paper, quickly rushing off to deliver the remaining papers he had. Iroh took a deep breath as he opened it. He gave the paper a confused look as he read everything that had been written. He didn't understand how he could have been promoted already. He is supposed to show the people above him what he could do. He knew he was reading it right but he didn't understand how. He wondered what Khari had done this time. Her last words rang in his ears again. He needed to go write to her to make sure she didn't do anything that got herself hurt. He wasn't there if she was hurt. He wasn't there to prevent her from doing things that would get her hurt. He knew he should have never left her side back when she was in that cell. He knew that he couldn't turn back time but if she was injured, he would feel horrible. Iroh set the pen down, quickly running to someone to have the letter sent to the palace.
"I hope you're okay K. I wouldn't know what to do if you weren't," Iroh whispered.
(Author Note: Yes, Iroh was sent away. Yes, Katara used bloodbending. Yes, Tenzin abused his position. Yes, Khari confronted her parents about it. Yes, Khari also calls Tenzin out on his lack of skills. Also, exciting that they found Korra. I hope everyone enjoyed the chapter and continues to enjoy. )
