Warning: spoiler alert for anyone who hasn't finish this game. Can you guess which game I am describing?
"Hey, are you okay?" a boy with wings asks me. I look around, not knowing where I am. "This place is dangerous for a little girl. You better get home quick," he says.
The boy with wings goes through the door. I follow him in. A guy tells us that we can find secret using the hammers to break the walls. The boy with wings is about to go out but stops when he sees me.
"Are you alright little girl?" he asks me. I just look at him. "You stay here where it's safe. I need to find the three sacred treasures and use them to stop the evil forces that are trying to invade our world." He goes out of the door.
I follow him out. He goes up by jumping to platform to platform. I follow him up. It is difficult jumping up but I did my best and jump up the platforms. I am getting a little tried. Weird worm-looking things jump out of the pot above us. The boy beats them by shooting his bow and arrows at them. He collects the little hearts that the worm things drop. I follow him around the place and into another door. I follow him to the middle of the room. Bats suddenly appear and fly toward us. I run around to avoid the bats. The boy uses his bow and arrows to shoot all the bats. He collects half of hearts from the bats he defeated.
"You're okay?! You're not hurt, are you?" I look and see the boy with wings in front of me. "We better get you out of here," he says to me.
Back outside, I follow the boy as he goes around the place. The boy notices that I am trying to follow him. When I can't reach the platform, the boy carries me up. The boy collects something that makes music and it makes hammers slowly fall from the sky. The boy collects the hammers. Scary looking bone heads are flying in the sky. The boy uses his bow and arrows to shoot upward at the bone heads. We go inside the door where the room is full of things with question mark on them. The boy shoots one of them which causes a full heart to appear. He shoots another one which gives him a hammer. He shoots another one but a weird looking thing comes out. As soon as this thing comes out, all the other question mark things disappear. We jump across small rock platforms to get up. More bone heads attack us. The boy beats them with his bow and arrows. I watch as the boy picks up the half hearts that the bone heads dropped.
"What is the heart for? Do they make you better?" I ask him.
"You mean these?" The boy points at the hearts he collected. "These are used to buy stuffs in the shop."
"Where's the shop?"
"There are shops everywhere. I just need to find it." The boy is about to go but stops. "By the way, my name is Pit. What's yours?"
"Julie."
"Hello Julie, once I am done here I will take you to a safe place."
"I want to save the world!"
"But a little girl like you would only get hurt. There're lots of bad guys around here and they are dangerous. Don't worry, I will save the world."
"I want to save the world!"
"You're not going to change your mind, are you?"
"I want to save the world!"
"Thought so, just be careful and stick with me, okay?"
"Okay."
I follow Pit around the place. We jump across the clouds and into a door. Inside is a person selling things.
"What do you know; here is one of the shops that we were talking about." Pit takes a look at the things the person is selling. "What?! You're selling a key for 300 hearts?!"
"Business has not be kind to us shopkeeper, that is why I am selling this for that amount," the person says to Pit.
"Wow, running a shop must be hard," says Pit.
I am looking at the stuffs that the person is selling.
The person looks at me. "Isn't it dangerous for you to be out?"
I look at the person.
"I don't want a little girl to get hurt so I'll give you a free item."
"Hey, how come you don't give me a free item?!" asks Pit.
"Because she is new here, I never seen her before," says the person.
"Oh, good point! This is the first time I met her."
The person gives me a bow and arrows. "Here you go; this will protect you from the enemies outside."
"Ummm, isn't the bow and arrows dangerous for a little girl? I thought you don't want her to get hurt. She might hurt herself with those arrows," says Pit.
"This is a special bow and arrows. It was made to be easy to use and it doesn't hurt the wielder. It only hurts the enemies."
"Wow, wouldn't that cost a lot?"
"Not really, I just found it lying around. I think it was meant for this little girl," says the person.
I smile at the person for giving me the bow and arrows.
"Now you be careful now," the person says to me.
I wave goodbye to the person before I go outside with Pit. Back outside I try out the bow and arrows.
"This is the first time you use it so I will teach you how to use it," says Pit. We jump across the clouds until we find worms coming out of the pot. "Watch and learn." Pit uses his bow and arrows to shoot the worms. I watch carefully on how Pit used his bow and arrows. More worms come out of the pot. I copy Pit and shoot the arrows at the worms using the bow. "Hey, that was great! You're a fast learner," Pit says to me. I smile at Pit.
We go up and make it to a door which takes us to the next place. We jump up across the platforms and beat the worms that come out of the pot. We go into a door that has bats in it. This time I help Pit shoot the bats down. We go back out and jump across the platforms. I see some water on the floor.
"Don't go in there! That water is poisonous," Pit tells me.
I avoid the water and follow Pit up. We go through another door. Inside is water in the middle. A guy tells us that this is a hot spring. I don't know what a hot spring is.
"Great, now we can take a break and relax for a bit!" Pit jumps into the hot spring. I just look at him. "Come on Julie, this hot spring is great. It will make you feel better and more relax."
I jump into the hot spring. The hot spring is hot but it makes me relaxed. My body doesn't feel tired anymore. It is difficult jumping around the place with no rest. We go back outside where we jump up using the floating platforms. I couldn't reach up properly so Pit helps carry me up. We go through the door. Inside is another shop. I sit down on the floor.
"You can't jump very high. We need to give you a pair of wings," says Pit.
The person who is selling stuffs says, "I got a message from Lady Palutena. She said she had another dream of a girl from another world."
"A girl from another world, who could that be?" asks Pit.
"She wanted to give the little girl this magical bracelet that stop the girl from being fatigue and grant her the same jumping ability as you," the person says to Pit.
"What?! Now Lady Palutena is playing favourite! I feel left out," says Pit. He doesn't look happy.
I feel sad making Pit unhappy. "I favourite you," I say to Pit.
Pit looks at me. "What did you say?"
"I favourite you," I say again.
Pit smiles at me. "Thanks! You don't like seeing me sad. Right, let's get this bracelet on you and save our world!"
"Yeah!" I shouted.
After putting the bracelet on me, Pit goes to the door but stops. "Wait a minute! Didn't Lady Palutena said that this bracelet is for the girl from another world?!" He looks at me. "You're from another world?!" I just look at him. "I wonder what type of world you are from. Is it anything like my world?"
We go back out. Wow, I can now jump just as good as Pit and I don't feel tired. We jump up, shooting the worms that come down from above. We then face with a scary bone thing. When the scary bone thing sees us, he starts running about and tries to hit us with his weapon. Scary little bone things come down on us. I am scared of those bone things. I help Pit shoot the scary bone things. It took a while but we finally beat the scary bone thing. We go into another room with more of those question mark things. I help Pit shoot them. We get some few things from the question mark things. I shoot the wrong one which causes that weird thing to show up and making the rest of the question mark things disappear.
Back outside, we jump up across the platforms. We grab the thing that makes music. We collect the falling hammers. There is a dragon statue on one of the platforms. We shoot down more bad guys and jump up using the moving platforms. I watch Pit as he uses a hammer to break something that was in our way. Now we can go into that door. Inside is an old man. He is happy to see Pit. He gives me and Pit a powerful arrows. Me and Pit thank him and go back outside. We go up where we find the door to the next place. We go toward it but stop when a slimy water-like monster appears from the ground. Surprised by that monster, I fall down on the floor. Pit shoots the monster down and has to duck down to avoid the monster's attack. We go into the door to the next place.
Dangerous water is all over the floor. We jump up using the floating platforms. We go around the place where we find another thing that makes music. We collect more falling hammers. We find a door on our way up. An old man says, "Can you endure this intense training?" I didn't understand what he meant by that. Lots of flat square things attack us. Me and Pit shoot them down. There are too many of them. We keep shooting and jumping around. After a long while, they all disappear and the old man says, "Your training is complete. Way to go you two! Take one of these special weapons. He gives us a choice of an arrow with fire, a better bow, and some kind of round thing. After taking one of the weapons, we carry on with our adventure. We jump up using the moving and floating platforms while shooting down the bad guys. We find another shop and another room full of question mark things on our way up. We are lucky to get everything right. We did not hit the wrong one.
Oh no, it's that scary bone thing again. We quickly defeat it before we get hit by those little bone things. Ahhhhhhh! A spider-like thing jumps near us and then over us. I did not like that! We go into another door where an old man gives us more powerful arrows. It is a lot easily to beat the bad guys with these powerful arrows. We shoot down worms with eyes which is very hard since they keep ducking down to avoid our arrows and we make our way to the door that takes us to the next place. Sometime, an old man will tell us that we are getting better when we go to the next place.
We are now inside some kind of place. I missed going outside. I heard nice music when we were outside. This place is full of doors, ladders, bad guys and dangerous traps. I follow Pit through the doors, and up and down the ladders. One room has dangerous water all over the floor and ugly monsters with big mouth. After we defeat them, we go to the other end of the room and break the little statue with a hammer. We collect the thing that comes out of the little statue. Another room has lots of slimy things that go everywhere. While going through this place we get things that help us find our way. There's the map that shows us the whole place, the pencil that marks which rooms we have been in, and the flame torch shows us where we are. We find them hiding in the little statues which we break using the hammers.
We get attack by flying things with one eye. We shoot them down and quickly go to the door. We find little cups of something hiding in the little statues, drinking them will make us feel better. One of the doors is a shop where the person sells us things. This person sells a flame torch and pencil instead of the key. We go into the room above us where we face with walking eggplants with an eye. One of the eggplants' attacks hits Pit and turns him into an eggplant with feet and eyes. I look at Pit in surprised. Pit couldn't fight when he is an eggplant. I use my bow and arrows to beat the eggplant monsters while avoiding their attacks. I did not want to turn into an eggplant.
I go over to Pit. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, thanks. Man, this is awkward. We need to find a way to turn me back to normal," says Pit. We look around the place and find a room where a girl cures Pit of the eggplant. We thank her and go out of the room. "We can come back here whenever we get turn into an eggplant but let's do our best not to get turn into an eggplant, okay?"
"Okay," I say. Pit is right, let's not get turn into eggplant.
It's very hard getting through this place. We use the map a lot in order to find the right place to go to. We both get turn into eggplants by the eggplant monsters. They attack us before we can do anything when we go into the room. We quickly go to the room with the girl and get cure. Being an eggplant feels weird. The next time we go into that room with the eggplant monsters, we jump out of the way and shoot them down.
We finally make it to the room with a big monster in it. This monster is a bull with a man body. He throws little bone heads at us. We jump out of the way and shoot him with our bow and arrows. The bull monster turns into a fire ball and flies around the place. We keep away from him when he does that. He turns back into a bull monster and appears on a different platform. He throws the little bone heads at us again. We shoot him with our arrows while avoiding the bull monster's attacks. We keep doing this until we beat the bull monster.
"Alright, we did it! We got one of the sacred treasures!" Pit shouts.
"What's a sacred treasure?" I ask.
"The sacred treasures will help us fight the evil forces and save my world. We need two more."
"Let's get it!"
Me and Pit go to the next place. Wow, this place looks more clean than the last place we were in. We go into the door above us. Weird looking things with faces fall down in front of us. I do not know what they are. Pit shoots them down one by one as they fall. I watch as they keep falling down. How long will this take? Will it ever stop? Finally it stops; Pit shoots down the last one. We go into the small hot spring. Ahhhh, that is much better. I feel a lot better now. I no longer feel hurt from that battle with that bull monster. Getting hit by those attacks really hurt, I better make sure to dodge them better when we face more powerful monsters.
This time we are going forward instead of up. Oh, there're trees and grass in this place…and more bad guys. We have to be careful as we get attack by falling feet and weird looking monsters. We go in every door we could find. Some are shops, some are rooms with question mark things, some are more training where we get the other special weapons, some are people who tell you secret, some are hot springs, some are rooms where we get more powerful arrows, and some have bad guys in them. Then there's this room where a guy sells things.
"Hey, Julie," Pit quietly says to me. I look at him. "Remember I complained about the price of the key in one of the shops?"
"Yes," I say to Pit.
"I take it back; the price in here is daylight robbery. I mean the shop sells it for 300 while this place sells it for 400!"
"Why?"
"These items I'm selling are very hard to come by, get them while you still can. You must buy them, they very useful," says the guy. I think he heard us.
"Or you just trying to overcharge us with these unfair prices," Pit quietly says.
"Did you say something?!" asks the guy.
"Nope, didn't say anything!" Pit quickly says.
I look and see a barrel, I wonder what that is use for. We don't have enough to buy them so we just go back outside. Jumping monsters with an eye attack us as soon as we go out of the door. We shoot them down and carry on. We jump down to the door to the next place.
We carry on going forward in this place, jumping across platforms and beating the bad guys. There's a bad guy that looks like a little snow monster. I see those monsters on the hills in this place. We jump carefully over the platforms as some of them have pointy spikes coming out from the sides. We carry on through this place to the door at the end. Wow, we are getting powerful with these weapons we got from training. The next place we do the same thing as the last place. We jump across platforms to reach the door at the end.
While going across I say, "This place is so clean. It's not like the other place."
"Oh, you mean the Underworld," Pit says to me.
"Underworld?"
"Yeah, that's the place where I first found you. This place we are in is called the Overworld. And then there's the Sky World."
"Sky World?"
"We'll be going there soon since one of the sacred treasures is in the Sky World."
We are now inside another scary place. The sacred treasure must be in here somewhere. This place looks just like the other one only the rooms are kinda different. We need to find the map, pencil and flame torch. Without them, we will get lost and never find the right room that has the sacred treasure. Whoa! Those things have big spike coming out of them. We have to wait for the spikes to go back in before we can jump over them. This place is even more dangerous than the other place that we been to. We go through doors, and climb up and down the ladder trying to find the right room. Guys with weapons attack us in some of the rooms. We beat them with our bow and arrows.
While looking around the rooms, I ask, "Why do sometime my bow and arrows changed? And how did I got this spinning things around me? Is it something to do with me getting hit?"
"That's right! You get the fire arrows when you have two bars and the improved bow when you have three bars. That spinning things protect you and you get that when you have four bars," Pit explains to me.
"Bars?"
"I don't understand it either but if I have to guess it have something to do with our health. The better our health is; the more powerful our weapons get. If we get hit, we lose it."
"Oh no!"
"Don't worry Julie, we can get it back by drinking healing water."
"Okay."
I keep getting lost in here. Where am I supposed to go? It feels like I am going around the same rooms. I follow Pit as we look at the map. It is a lot easily to go through this place with a map. Oh no, it's the eggplant monsters! Oops, we get hit by them! We quickly run away as we can't fight as an eggplant. Hey, we can go through this little space now. When you're an eggplant, you are small enough to fit through small spaces. We go to the room across where a girl cures us. We go back out. Oh no, we can't go back through that small space we used. This isn't good; it looks like we have to go back through all those rooms again. We better avoid getting turn into an eggplant. Using the map, we make our way back to the room. We shoot down the bad guys and quickly defeat the eggplant monsters before they can turn us into eggplants.
When we make it to the end of the room, a big ugly bone head with wings attacks us. He flies around and chases us around the room. We use our bow and arrows to shoot him. The flying bone monster also attacks by spiting fire onto the floor. When the fire hits the floor, it grows big and spreads across the floor. We jump off the platform to safety to avoid the fire. We shoot it until we defeat it. We now get another sacred treasure. We go to the Sky World.
Wow! This place more clean than the Overworld. It looks like we are going up. There're spike things all over the place. We better not touch them. We jump up using the clouds and floating round balls. We go into an empty room.
"Why is this room empty?" I ask.
Pit says to me, "Don't know. Is it me or isn't this the room for our training?"
"Oh, that might be why! We got all the special weapons so we don't need training."
"You properly right. We're just too good that we don't need any more training."
We go back out and carry on upward. I see a smiling moon in the sky. Weird flying jelly things fly through the sky. We shoot them down. We climb all the way up, shooting the bad guys. We find the door to the next place at the top.
Uh oh, there're poisonous waters here. We jump over them and make our way around the place. Again, we make our way to the top. This time we are jumping across floating platforms. Octopus-like monsters attack us as we make our way to the top. When we reach the clouds, we face with big guys with shields. We beat them using our bow and arrows. We carry on upward by jumping across the clouds. We keep climbing until we reach the door to the next place.
There're more poisonous waters at the start of this place. We go up using the clouds and then we use the moving platforms to make our way up. We have to make our way around the place in order to get past those platforms that are in our way. We climb up more clouds and more moving platforms. At the top we go into the door to the next place.
This place is even scary than the other two. We are inside again which means that the sacred treasure is in here. I feel that something bad is going to happen in this place. First we need to get the map, pencil and flame torch to get around this place. Same as the other two times, we look around the rooms using doors and ladders. Ahhhhhhh! There're spiders in here! They jump everywhere! I jump away as they move toward me. Pit saves me by shooting down the spiders.
"You don't like spiders huh?" ask Pit.
"I don't like them!" I say to Pit.
"Just use your bow and arrows on them. You don't have to be close to shoot them. Keep a long distance and you'll be fine."
"Okay."
We carry on through the rooms. There are more bad guys in here. They are trying to stop us from getting the sacred treasure. I keep getting lost in this place. I don't know where I am going. We look at the map to see where we are. We go to the rooms that we haven't been to. Fireballs with mean looking faces attack us. We shoot them down with our bow and arrows. After going around the rooms a lot, we make it to the right room.
We get attack by a snake that breathes fire and flies around. We shoot him while avoiding him and the fires. He isn't taking any hit when we shoot his body. We must shoot his head to beat him. We jump around to avoid getting hit by the snake. We keep shooting him until he is defeated.
We now have all the sacred treasures. I needed to rest for a bit since I got hurt fighting that flying snake. It took a lot of hit to beat him and he flew about a lot that I couldn't dodge him. And I got hit by the fires that I couldn't dodge. Luckily I got these powerful weapons to help me and the bracelet too. Also, I am lucky to have Pit to help me.
We go to the next room where we meet with Palutena. She says to us, "Good job! You two made it through the training. Pit, you may now use the three sacred treasures."
I watch as Pit takes the three sacred treasures. His wings are bigger, his bow and arrows are big too, and he is now wearing armours. The whole place starts to shake after Pit took the three sacred treasures. A big fire comes down near Palutena. It turns into a flying monster and he flies over us.
"My name is Orcos. I am the king of the evil land," says the flying monster. He attacks Palutena and turns her to stone.
"Lady Palutena!" Pit shouts.
I did not like what that monster did to her so I use my bow and arrows to shoot him. Orcos dodges my attacks and quickly attacks me. I fall to the floor. I look at my bow and arrows to see that Orcos destroyed them.
Pit runs to me. "Julie, are you okay?!"
"I'm okay." I say to Pit.
"You puny little wimps, you must defeat me to free the goddess," Orcos says to us. He turns into fire and flies away.
"We have to save her and beat him!" I say.
"And that is what we are going to do!" Pit helps me up. "Julie, the bracelet!"
I look at my bracelet and see that it is now broken. "Oh no! He broke it!" I am not happy.
"You stay here while I go after Orcos."
Pit goes into the door on the other side. I follow Pit through it. Whoa, there're new bad guys that I never see before and some old bad guys that I saw back in the other places. I jump out of the way of one of the monster's attacks. Pit flies to me and takes me to safety.
"Julie, I thought I told you to stay in that room!" Pit says to me.
"Help Palutena!" I shout.
"You want to help me save her and my world?"
"Yes!"
"…Okay then, get onto my back." I jump on Pit's back. "With these sacred treasures, I will have no problem carrying you on my back. And I might need another set of eyes to help me look out for any danger."
We move forward through this place. I help Pit by keeping an eye out for any monsters, and warning Pit of any monsters' attacks. Pit uses his bow and arrows to shoot down monsters. He can also fly up.
I look down and see that we are flying. "Yeah, you're flying!"
"It's thank to the sacred treasures that I am able to fly. I can't fly even though I have wings but I can glide through the sky. One day, when I work and train hard; I will fly through the sky without the use of the sacred treasures. I always wanted to fly on my own using my own wings."
"That will be fun!"
Pit smiles at me. "You're so right on that!"
We fly over the blocks that are in our way and through these small spaces that have spike things all over the walls. We go over and under platforms while shooting down any bad guys. We make it to the door at the end of this place.
As soon as we go in, walls fall down and trap us in. Orcos comes in as a fireball and then turns into a flying monster. We fly around, dodging Orcos as he tries to attack us by flying into us. Orcos has another attack where he fires three little fireballs at us. Pit keeps shooting him with his bow and arrows until he beats him.
Orcos turns into a fireball when he is defeated. The whole room shakes and disappears. We look to see that Orcos has grown so big…I mean really, really, really big. He fires fireball which turns into lots of little fireball at us. He shoots things out of…his tail? I think it is his tail. He also sends bats out at us. I tell Pit that we should shoot his head. Pit flies up and shoots Orcos in the head using his bow and arrows. We have to fly up, down and around to avoid Orcos' attacks. It's a good thing we got those special weapons or else this would have been difficult to fight. Pit keeps shooting Orcos until Orcos is defeated. We watch as Orcos disappears.
We go into this room where Palutena appears. Yeah, Palutena is okay and is not turn to stone anymore.
"You two have done a marvelous job!" Palutena says to us. "You brought peace back to Angel Land."
Pit is so happy that he flies all the way up. I am happy too.
Palutena smiles at me and says, "Thank you Julie for helping us." I smile at her. "It's time for you to go home now. You go on, I'll tell Pit that you said goodbye. We might meet again someday."
I say goodbye to her and go into the portal that takes me home.
If you guessed Kid Icarus on the Gameboy, then you are right! I never play the one on the NES and I never realize that they have different stories. It took me a few years to beat this game. I didn't know how to read so I didn't understand how to play it. I based Pit on his personality in Uprising on the 3DS.
