Can you guess which game I am describing?
I am in the woods where I see two mice dancing together. They look so cute together. They are so happy until everything turns dark. The two mice duck down and close their eyes. An old woman flies to them on her broomstick. She goes over to the girl mouse, takes the girl mouse and flies away. The boy mouse looks to see the girl mouse being kidnapped. He chases after them. I quickly follow him. We run to where we see a big castle.
Outside the castle, we meet an old man who tells us that we have to hurry or else the old woman will use her power of illusion to make herself look like the girl mouse and make the girl mouse look evil. The old man tells us that we need the seven gems of the rainbow to stop the old woman. He warns us that the gems are protected by the master of illusion.
The boy mouse looks at me and says, "Gosh, what's a little girl like you doing here? It's dangerous here; you should go home where it's safe."
"Save the girl mouse!" I say to him.
"You want to help me save my girlfriend? It's very dangerous."
"Save your girlfriend!"
"Gosh, thanks! But-" The boy mouse isn't able to finish talking as three toy soldiers walk out of the castle and toward us. The boy mouse jumps on them and beats them one by one.
I follow the mouse into the castle. We go through the first door which looks like the woods.
The boy mouse looks to see me following him. "Guess you followed me. Come on, let's save her!"
"Yeah!" I say.
The boy mouse smiles at me. A little tree runs at us. The boy mouse jumps on top of him and beat him. We carry on forward where we face with another moving tree. We beat him and jump up to collect some apples. I help the boy mouse to beat the mushroom monsters by jumping on top of them. We swing across using the swinging rope and jump to the other side without falling onto the mushroom monsters below us. I have fun doing that. There's a flower that spits out dangerous things. The boy mouse jumps on him when he is not spiting. There're more bad guys up ahead. We jump on them and carry on through this place. It would be a lot easily if the first gem will just float down right here at the end of this place. We carry on to the next place.
More moving trees attack us. After beating them, we jump over the holes until we stop. The next hole is too big for us to jump cross. We use the swinging ropes to swing across the big holes and then we run down the hill very fast. A big apple is rolling down after us. We fall down into a small hole at the bottom. The apple rolls over the hole and misses us. We jump out and walk to the door. I hear another apple coming toward us. We better get to the door quick or we'll get squash like a flat paper by the big apple. We quickly go through the door.
We are in a place with lots of spider webs. We are walking on top of leaves. Some of the leaves will move when we walk on them. In this place we get attack by spiders and flying little butterfly leaves. I think I saw those little butterfly leaves before when we swung across those big holes. I don't like the spiders so the boy mouse carries me through this place. He uses some of the spiders to jump up really high by jumping on them.
The boy mouse puts me down when we make it back outside. We jump up the tree and collect the apples. Then all of a sudden, the whole place goes dark. We jump over to the other tree where we see ghosts floating in the air. The boy mouse carries me and jumps on top of the ghost to reach the other tree. I look to see lots of ghosts in front of us. It looks like you can jump on top of them to reach higher place. I remember a game I played, my mum showed me how to jump higher by pressing the button on the control and moving the control up while jumping on the ghosts. I used this to reach to some useful items on top of the tree. I tell the boy mouse that he can use the ghosts to jump higher. The boy mouse nods his head and does what I told him. He jumps on the ghosts and goes higher where he finds useful items. We use the ghosts to jump toward and into the cave. There are blue mushroom monsters in this cave. Four of them block our way; two of them are on the top so it's difficult to get across without them hitting us from above. We throw apples at them to beat them as we don't have enough room to jump on them. We beat more mushroom monsters that are in our way. Through this path we find a useful item. There is something on top of the cave. It is a bat and he flies toward us. We duck down to avoid it. We take the item and go back around to get to the door.
A square tree falls out of the tree. There is a square hole in the middle of the tree. The square tree looks like he has a happy face on him. He attacks us by rolling at us. We avoid him by jumping over him. He rolls back and then up the tree which causes nuts to fall from the tree. We avoid the falling nuts and jump on the square tree to damage him. We keep doing this until we beat the square tree monster. A red gem floats down and we take it. We return to the castle where the door we used disappears. We go to the next door which is full of toys.
The door to the next area is right in front of us but we can't go in as the door is closed and locked. We make our way up the toy boxes. Toy soldiers, toy planes and weird looking things that pop out of the red question mark box attack us in this place. While climbing up, I see other floating boxes leading the other way. I wonder if we jump up those floating boxes and then jump off in the other direction when we get to the top; would that be the quicker way to get to the very top of this place? Is it a shortcut to the top or are we going back to the bottom? I follow the boy mouse up the toy boxes. All these toy boxes are shaped like stairs. Bad guys come and attack us while we climb up the toy boxes. We beat them by jumping on their heads. At the very top we find the key. As soon as the boy mouse takes the key, all the toy boxes turn into a straight hill. We run down the hill shaped toy boxes to the bottom. We collect gems as we make our way down. I run really, really fast down the hills, I never run this fast before. The boy mouse looks so funny when he runs down the hills. It is really fun running down but I nearly fall down at the bottom of the hill. We go to the closed door which is now opened. It would be faster if we collect the colourful gem here but it isn't here so we go through the door.
In the next area we use springs to jump up high and we need to break the yellow flower boxes by throwing blue marbles at them. We jump down the moving blue boxes. I find a hidden place near the bottom. I use the blue marbles to break the yellow flower boxes and get the item hidden in there. We jump through the red jellies. If we don't jump, we'll sink to the bottom of the red jelly. It's very hard to jump on the jelly. Mmmmmm, those red jellies look good to eat. I wonder what they taste like. We jump onto the moving blue boxes which take us up. We carry on walking through this place. I look behind to see toy soldiers walking toward us from behind. I'm about to say something to the boy mouse but stop when I see a clown riding a one wheel bike. The clown is juggling the balls while on the one wheel bike. The boy mouse jumps on top of the clown to beat it. The one wheel bike uncontrollably moves very quickly. I jump out of the way to avoid the runaway bike. I look back to see the bike crashes through the toy soldiers that were behind us.
The boy mouse checks to see if I'm okay. "Gosh, that nearly hit you. Are you okay?"
I tell him, "I'm okay."
"That unicycle is coming back this way! We better get going."
I follow the boy mouse to the spring where we jump up to avoid the runaway unicycle. We break down yellow flower boxes and jump over gap to reach the door to the next area.
All we have to do is keep moving straight forward to the door at the end. The only problem is that there are more bad guys that are trying to stop us. We walk forward until we find an item that has what looks like pointing arrows on it. When the boy mouse touches it, it causes the whole place to turn upside down. Everything is upside down even the background. The bad guys fall down on their heads which defeated them. I look around. I feel like I am upside down. This is fun! I laugh when I am upside down. We find another one of those items when we carry on. The boy mouse jumps over the bad guys and gets the item. This turns everything back right up. The bad guys fall upward on their heads which defeated them. It's funny how this place works. We run under the boxes when we are upside down. Toy soldiers walk toward us. We don't have enough room to jump on their heads. We run back out and jump up to the boxes. We walk over them but we couldn't go any further because the boxes are blocking our way. I notice that there are yellow boxes behind the red ones. I use the blue marbles to break the yellow boxes to reveal an item hidden in them. We go back under the boxes and carry on. There is still one toy soldier under there. We beat him by throwing a blue marble at him. We carry on but stop when the toy soldiers walk toward us from under the boxes, blocking our way. We turn back but see clowns on unicycles coming toward us from the other end. We have no way to go but up. The boy mouse carries me and jumps up where we find another of that upside down item. We use it to beat the bad guys. We carry on and find the door (while I find myself getting struck under the boxes because I took the wrong path. I had to go back and jump over the boxes to get to the door).
We are in a room where shoes with spring fall from above. Next, a box that looks like a present comes in from above and then two long rings of arms come in at the sides of the box. I duck down to avoid the long ring arm. At the end of these long rings arms are blue punching gloves. And lastly the head which looks like a clown wearing a blue round hat comes down from above. The clown is too big for us to jump on. We run under him when he tries to jump on us. After jumping for about three or four times, the clown shoots out his long arm at us. We duck down to avoid his attack. The clown's head goes inside the box and four springs come out from the box. We use the springs to jump up high and onto the clown's head. I nearly got hit by the clown punching gloves because I didn't know when he's about to throw his punching gloves. He sometime throws his punching gloves after he jumps two times…or three or four or maybe five times. We have to duck down quickly to avoid his attack. After getting hit several times I notice the clown is going red. This must mean that we nearly beat him. We keep going until we defeat him. An orange gem comes down from above. We take it and go out of the door. The door disappears just like the other one. We go to the next door.
We are on what looks like the mountains. The dark clouds are in the sky and it looks like it is sunset as I see orange at the top of the clouds. We get attack by mushroom monsters and bats. We jump over the gaps and make it to the wooden bridge. We quickly cross it as the wooden floors of the bridge fall down one by one. We jump over the next gap. A red head bone fish jumps out of the gap and tries to bite us but misses us. We keep going, crossing the wooden bridges and jumping over gaps until we hit a wall. There is no way through it. How do we get past that? We go back the way we came and fall down on one of the wooden bridges into the water. The bone fishes swim toward us and try to bite us. I couldn't swim so I wave my arms about. The boy mouse notices this and holds me by the arm. We quickly swim down where we get suck in by the moving water. The water spits us out. We look around to see that we are back to the wooden bridges we crossed earlier. We hold our breath and jump back into the water. We swim to another place where the moving water spits us out at a different place. I think we gone back a bit too far. We keep going into the water to find the right way out. I notice that we keep getting spit out at the same place. Which one is the right way? We finally find the right one that takes us to the end. Wow, it took us so long. I think we should get the colourful gem right here for all the troubles we been through. The colourful gem isn't here so we go through the door.
Inside, we are in a place full of lots of rocks. I think some of the rocks have faces on them. This place is full of bats that attack us. When I see a bat hanging upside down on the top, he looks like a face with a big head…that what it looks like to me. There are lots of waterfalls in this place and the fast waterfalls are dangerous. If we jump at the wrong time across the gaps, the water will fall onto us and push us down the gap. I do not want that to happen. More jumping bone fishes attack us when we jump over the gaps. We have to be careful as the floors have gotten smaller and smaller. It's too small that only one of us can stand on it. It gets more dangerous when there are fast waterfalls coming down on us.
The next place isn't too dangerous but it takes a while for us to get across. There are floating platforms in this dark long tunnel. We walk onto the floor only to get push back to the beginning by the moving water that suddenly rises. The moving water then stops and disappears. We run across the floor for a while and then we hear moving water coming our way. We jump up onto the floating platform and wait for the water to stop. We carry on through the tunnel. I get push back by the water because I thought that I could reach the floating platform that is further away from me in time. I am wrong and I get push back by the water. Luckily, the boy mouse grabs my hand and pulls me out of the water before I could get sent back to the start. We quickly and carefully run through this tunnel.
In the next area, statues come up from the ground. A green fish jumps down from above and attacks us by jumping onto us. He is very fast when he jumps. We have a hard time jumping onto his head. When we finally jump on him, the green fish moves across the floor and then crashes into the bottom of the statues. Another green fish jumps from above. Again we have a hard time jumping on his head. The boy mouse throws the blue marble at the green fish. It hits him which causes the green fish to move across the floor and crash into the bottom of the statues. Another green fish jumps in only for the boy mouse to beat him with the blue marble. It's a lot easily to beat them with the blue marbles. I look at the statues and notice that there are only two statues left. The other statues must have broken when the green fishes crashed into them. We beat the last two the same way as the others. We collect the yellow gem after we beat the green fishes and statues.
We get out of the door which disappears like the others. I carry on walking across but the boy mouse stops me.
I point to the other end. "Are we going to use the colourful gems to save her?" I ask the boy mouse.
"Geez, I wish it was that easy," the boy mouse says to me. "Giving the old witch the three gems so that she will peacefully leave us, then the rainbow will appear and I meet my girlfriend halfway on the rainbow. That would have been quick and easy but I'm afraid that won't happen. We need to collect all seven gems and then stop the old witch."
"Where do we go?"
"We need to go up."
We walk back past the door we been to. Stairs magical appear and we climb up to the next floor and into the next door. Wow, this place is big, very big. It's a normal room but the whole place is big. We get attack by the letter 'A' that are walking about and worms that are slowly moving. We go inside the bottle of milk.
Wow! There are lots of cakes and sweets in here. We are floating above the milk below us. I don't like milk and I can't swim so I have to be careful not to fall in. Even the dolphins are made of sweets. Everything in here looks so good to eat but we have no time to eat. We must go and rescue the girl mouse from the witch. We jump across the strawberry cakes that are floating under and over the milk. We also cross a bridge of sweets that fall down when we walk on them. There is another bridge of sweets up ahead but this one doesn't fall down. It swings up and down when we walk on it. We use the moving biscuits to get across to the green gem.
Now that we got the green gem, we go out of the milk bottle. The milk bottle is now closed; we can't go back in there. We go back the way we came. Something seems different now, we can now go up. We use the swinging ropes to swing across. These ropes are actually light switches. When we swing on them, they turn the light off and when we let go of them, the light go back on. We use the bottles and the books to climb our way up. We quickly run past the angry looking books at the top that try to fall on us. We beat the worm bad guys and jump into the cup. The boy mouse helps me swim in this brown water. Weird moving white boxes with eyes are swimming in this water. We swim past them without touching them. We collect gems that are in the water. When we get out of the cup, a lid covers the cup so that we can't go back in. We jump up using the platforms and then jump down near the big apple. We run down the hill with the big apple following us from behind. We quickly fall into the cup at the bottom. We swim through more brown water and more moving white boxes with eyes. After we get out of the cup we beat the bad guys, go past the bottles, and go into the milk bottle.
We are standing on a strawberry cake. There are three strawberry cakes floating on the milk. We get attack by a big red dragon that has a big mouth at the bottom of his face. The red dragon jumps out of the milk and attacks us with his head. He jumps out in two different ways. He slowly jumps out high or he quickly jumps out low. We don't know where he will jump out and we don't' know how he is going to jump out. The best way to beat him is to wait for him to jump out high because he always stops for a bit when he does that. Then we jump on his head. We have to be quick or else he'll just go back into the milk. Sometime, we are lucky enough to jump on his head when he jumps low. When he jumps low, he doesn't stop at all. After jumping on his head some more times, we beat him. We get the blue gem from this place.
We go out of the door which has now disappears. Another stairs magical appears as we make our way up the floor. We go through the last door of the castle. It looks like we are inside a castle and it looks very scary. We walk across and get attack by a bad guy in armour who throws thing at us. The boy mouse jumps over the thing that is thrown at us and onto the bad guy. We carry on through this place. There are armours in this place that don't move. There must be nothing inside them. We walk past them. I look at them and notice that one of the armours has evil white eyes. That one tries to attack us with his axe. We luckily walk past him before he can hurt us. I tell the boy mouse about it. We might find more of them in this place. We just jump down and quickly run across, under the falling rocks that try to crush us. We also run past the armours with the evil white eyes that try to hit us with their axes. We run under more falling rocks but this time only some of them fall down while the others stay up. We jump onto a floating platform which falls down when we stand on it. Bad guys in armour try to attack us by throwing things at us. The boy mouse throws candle at the bad guys. It feels like we are in a different place. A big ball is rolling around. The boy mouse helps me jump over it and we make our way up while defeating the bad guys. We run down the hill, the boy mouse quickly grabs me and we jump over the purple water that is at the bottom of the hill. Another big ball is blocking our way. We use the holes at the bottom to get pass it. We jump up while avoiding the bad guys in armour's attacks. Weird blue looking balls jump out of the purple water. I don't know what they are but they must be dangerous. We jump over the purple water while avoiding the weird blue balls. We jump on the platform which falls down. We jump off just in time before the falling platform falls into the purple water. We quickly jump across the platforms which are floating on the purple water. We have to be quick as they fall down once we stand on them. More bad guys in armour attack us, and it gets even more dangerous as there are falling platforms and jumping weird blue balls in the purple water. We quickly and carefully jump across. We walk on a swinging bridge and beat the bats that attack us. We find a bright colour gem floating down. We jump down to grab it.
We fall down into the water. I hold my breath and we swim under. This place is like a maze. We go to one path only to return back the way we came. The water also pushes us while we swim. It isn't safe in this water, bone fish heads attack us. I couldn't see properly in the water so I couldn't see where we are going.
We make it out of the water and into a place full of moving circles. We use the platforms around the moving circles to jump up to the weird shaped things. The weird shaped things fall down when we jump on them. This place is like a machine. Those weird shaped things look like those things you used to make the machine works. We jump over to the dangerous machine things that fall and try to crush us. We run to the space in the middle to avoid being crush. After that, we jump on the moving weird shaped things which don't fall when we jump on them. All these moving things are moving us around and around. We need to make our way up. We avoid the bats and jump up using the platforms around the moving circle. We jump across using the swinging ball on a rope and climb up by jumping on the weird shaped things. There are a lot of bats in here. We carefully make our way past the dangerous machine things and jump across moving shaped things.
We make it to the door which takes us to a big scary looking guy. This guy reminds me of a big giant. The scary guy jumps toward us. The boy mouse jumps on him but he uses his arm to stop the boy mouse's attack. He slowly walks toward us. I run away from him when I see him smile. The boy mouse jumps as the scary guy try to hit him with his hammer. The boy mouse falls onto the scary guy's head, hurting him. We wait for the scary guy to walk toward us. As soon as he is close, we wait for him to smile. As soon as he smiles, I run away from him while the boy mouse jumps up. The scary guy misses us and gets hit on the head by the boy mouse. He is going redder and redder every time the boy mouse hits him. After we beat him, we get the purple gem.
We go out of the door which disappears and make our way outside. Once outside, the boy mouse uses the seven gems we collected to make a rainbow to the other castle. We walk on the rainbow and into the castle. Inside, we find the girl mouse who is not happy that she is inside a bubble. I see lots of dark clouds outside. The old witch is standing on the platform in the middle. The old witch turns into a scary looking woman and attacks us using weird white things that look like they have faces on them. The weird white things go around the witch. That witch reminds me of a bad guy from a movie I watched. The boy mouse tries to jump onto the witch but the weird white things stop him from jumping onto her. The witch then sends the weird white things in all directions. I jump to one side to avoid her attack. The boy mouse is sent upward because he keeps jumping on the weird white thing which is moving upward. The boy mouse comes back down when he jumps off the weird white thing. I watch as the witch disappears. The witch looks like she is everywhere as I see her trying to appear in all the different places. I don't know where she will appear. She then appears in one place and uses the same attack. The boy mouse waits for her to attack. Once she has finished attacking, the boy mouse jumps onto the witch's head. The witch disappears again and does the same thing as before. It is very hard for the boy mouse to jump on her head when she appears too high up. He has to wait till she appears near the bottom. I keep dodging her attacks until the boy mouse defeats her. The boy mouse uses something which turns the evil witch into a small happy old woman. The girl mouse is freed from the bubble and the two mice hug each other. I smile when I see that.
The castle starts to shake and we all look around. The old woman walks to us and shows us a way out. We all follow her. The old woman flies on her broomstick while carrying me and the two mice. We watch the castle and the pretty lights in the sky. The old woman takes us back to the woods. She is a nice old woman now. We say goodbye to her as she flies back home. I watch as the girl mouse kisses the boy mouse which causes the boy mouse to fall down on the floor. The boy mouse is in love. The two mice thank me and say goodbye to me. I say goodbye to them and watch them dance away. Before I go home, I stand inside a place where people watch things on a big screen. They are watching the adventure that I had with the boy mouse. The curtains close and the lights turn on. I look down to see lots of mice sitting in chairs, watching the big screen. Two of the mice at the front turn around and wave at me. It is the two mice that I helped. I wave to them and then go out where I go home through the portal.
Castle of Illusion for the Megadrive, I never realize that the mice in this game were Mickey and Minnie Mouse...yeah, I never notice. I remember when I played this game, I was learning to ride my bike by my parents. So much fun! When I played this game, I played it on easy mode because the normal mode was too hard for me. I eventually got better and did the normal mode and finished the game properly.
I played the remake version on my PS3, it was okay but I prefer the Megadrive version. The levels in this version were easy and some of the bosses were a bit difficult. I like that they redone some levels and adding new things to it but I still prefer the old version. I found the final boss annoying and very difficult. It was annoying because when you lose a life, the witch will repeat the same sentences over and over and over...ahhhhhhh! And the boss fight was very difficult as I had a difficult time dodging her attacks. I like that her attacks are different but it was so hard to dodge because of the camera angle. I went behind her and fell and lost a life because I couldn't see where I was going. I lost a lot of life in the final boss but I eventually beaten her by memorizing her attacks. Also, I shouldn't blame the game that much for losing at the final boss as my controller had a mind of its own. It made Mickey jumped when I didn't press the button which caused Mickey to get hit by the witch's attacks. I think I need a new controller if it does that again. As for the music...I prefer the Megadrive version.
