Notes: This chapter kind of is dark
Kimberly took the cup of coffee that was handed her. Until recently she hadn't been a coffee drinker but sometimes it was what she needed. "Thanks," she said to Aisha. She surveyed the area around her. It was still very early in the morning and not many people were up. She could have gone to sleep but she just couldn't. Not after what Rajon had confirmed. She supposed she always knew deep down but to hear the words from the teen's mouth didn't make it any easier.
Tommy wasn't just killed in some fight to escape like they had all secretly hoped all of this time.
No, he had been executed.
Her hand shook and Aisha took the cup from her before she dropped it. "Kim?" Aisha asked her best friend seeing Kim's pale face.
"He…" she took a deep breath trying to steady herself. "He's…" It had been a couple of months and right now she couldn't say the words. "Aisha he…"
"Kim I'm going to get you some water," Aisha said rushing over to where they had set up a water dispenser. She dumped out the coffee on the ground before filling the cup up. She went over to Kimberly and grabbed her by the elbow to one of the benches and had her sit down before handing her the cup. She watched her friend drink the water without saying a word. It seemed to calm Kim down a little.
"I…" Kim said and shook her head. "I'm sorry Aisha. I don't know why I lost it back there." She wiped away at a tear that was threatening to fall.
"Kim have you allowed yourself to grieve?" Aisha asked. She knew Tommy's death and the destruction of Angel Grove had to have hit Kimberly and Billy hard. She, Adam, and Rocky had been only recently moved to Angel Grove from Stone Canyon. Kat had been thee for less than 6 months after moving there from Australia. Sure, the destruction of Angel Grove had hit them hard but not in the same way it could have possibly hit the ones who had been born and raised in Angel Grove.
"In Florida," Kim said but even she knew that wasn't true. She had thrown herself into her gymnastics as she had been unable to get to Angel Grove to help with the city. It made her not have to think about Tommy's death. She hadn't even let herself really process the information that Tommy hadn't died then and was only stuck on the moon. Maybe a part of her always understood he probably wouldn't survive on the moon.
"What about now?" Aisha asked softly. "Now that you've…" even Aisha had trouble voicing the words of finality. she thought about that night in the command center after Ryan had been teleported away.
After Zordon had told them there wasn't anything they could do, they all teleported down to Angel Grove where it didn't take them long to find Ryan. He was digging a hole. Rocky and Adam had run to the supply area to grab a couple of more shovels and the teens helped Ryan dig the grave. Once it was deep enough, Ryan gently laid Tommy's body in the grave. Kim took a thin bracelet she was wearing and tossed it into the grave. Kim told Aisha later that it was a bracelet that Tommy had given her when they first started dating. She said she had other jewelry and things Tommy had given her but she wanted to bury this one with Tommy.
"Should we say something?" Rocky asked.
Then one by one everyone said something but Aisha didn't remember what was said. she remembered looking up and seeing a falcon flying overhead but she was sure she was imagining things. It was too dark to see anything. The sky was dark with a chance of a rainstorm hitting. As they threw in the last shovel of dirt the sky broke and the rain came down hard. Aisha remembered Billy mentioning how it wasn't really the right time of the year for a rainstorm as they grabbed their shovels and headed for the makeshift cover they had created to stay out of the sun.
"I don't want to be here anymore," Kim whispered bringing Aisha out of her thoughts.
"Kim…" she was worried about her friend's mental state.
"But I can't leave Angel Grove. We've gotta save the others first. Then I can go."
Aisha was very worried about her best friend. "Kim, I know you miss Tommy…"
Kimberly shook her head and she looked at Aisha with a confused look on her face. "I meant back to Florida. I just…I just want things to be the way they used to be."
Aisha put an arm around her shoulder and pulled her in for a hug
Note as of 11/20/22: What a sad chapter to put this. I do want to let you know that this fanfic will continue. RIP JDF
