When he opened his eyes (talking about his eyes plural was something he'd have to get used to again) Kasuma's first sight was the man who had saved his eyesight the first time around and given him his new powers.
Hard to believe he had gotten so caught up in acting as "Heimdall" and exploring his powers that he had almost forgotten he had originally been human.
"Welcome back to the land of the living. Got the rage issue out of your system now?" asked Gabriel.
Considering how he had originally lost his sight, it was understandable the poor kid had massive rage issues and took it out on someone who could take it. After the upgrade, there was always going to be a bit of...adjustment. Even Reiya had gotten nightmares for a full month before her new powers and body settled.
Kasuma winced as the light hit his eyes. More specifically his recently regrown right eye.
It had taken this long for the healing powers to kick in, as eyes were a bit trickier than say, an organ or hand. He could live with the fact that one eye was a slightly different shade than his remaining one.
The light was so painful he quickly let his hair fall back to the side, obscuring it.
Gabriel put his hand on Kasuma's shoulder. He felt blessed relief.
"I'm going to lose my 'upgrade' now aren't I?" he asked in a defeated tone. It was awesome while it lasted.
"What makes you think that?"
"I attacked Raze."
"You were set up as a 'friendly rival' to him for a reason. Why do you think we told you that the mission was to kick his ass and bring his ego down to size?"
He winced.
"So no, we're not going to remove your powers. I wouldn't know the first way to pull it off. At most you're just going to get a reprimand and you'll be stuck going to the same magic classes Loki's been giving Raze since he was old enough to learn. You need the practice and a chance to learn how to use that eye of yours without a massive overload. You're lucky the damn thing shut down, rather than explode or something," said Gabriel seriously.
Kasuma seemed indifferent, but he was glad that he wasn't going to lose his powers...or his sight again.
Frey looked positively thrilled to have Heimdall back again. He was the only adult who had gotten the upgrade, as Gabriel liked to call it. He was also the only one who had openly asked for a flying pig.
Gabriel had laughed so hard when he realized Frey wanted to shut people up when they said "when pigs fly" around him that he actually gave him one named Gullinbursti.
"Feeling better?" asked Raze. Now that his seal had been broken and his full memories restored, he usually went by his shortened name around his friends.
That number did not include Mayura, who was mystery-obsessed enough that she would get way in over her head if she knew the full truth about who they were.
It was more for her safety than anything else.
Mayura was currently going on a Mystery tour of Japan with some people her father introduced her too. He had hopes that if his daughter wasn't going to get rid of her strange obsession, then at least she could find a career to go with it and have a reason to improve her grades.
"Yeah. Your dad healed the damage I caused to the nerves and fixed up a proper limiter for it so I don't go blind in that eye or die from overusing the power," said Heimdall.
"That's good. How about you Reiya? How are you faring?"
"I'm doing better Raze. Especially now that my powers have finally settled so I don't pass out whenever Freya takes over," she replied.
And hadn't that been rather awkward to get over. Realizing she now acted as Freya's hand on Earth and was now a witch. Fortunately the real Loki and his friend the Trickster were rather good teachers when it came to magic.
"I'm just glad that they were able to hook me up to runes. It's easier on the budget if I don't have to keep paying a massive water and electric bill every month," said Narugami.
Narugami's upgrade, like the others, had come from a personal tragedy and the chance to make a fresh start. Like Kasuma, he had come from a less than pleasant home and had nearly gotten killed. Gabriel had come around and given him a chance to have Thor's powers, complete with a weapon. Considering he was Japanese, having a wooden kendo sword made using his full powers a lot less awkward than say, a massive warhammer.
The Japanese Ministry hated Gabriel for making their jobs harder, as none of the newly minted mages were particularly inclined to keep their powers a secret, much less care about any laws that they had. At least they stuck to one area.
"So Raze, any idea of what your dads have in mind for us now?" asked Narugami.
"Well outside of training, not really."
"Training?" repeated Frey.
"Long story short, there are a few...factions that my fathers are a part of who won't exactly look at the Empowered such as yourself with any real fondness. In fact they're more likely to cause problems if they found out," admitted Raze.
"Empowered?" repeated Narugami.
"It was the term my Trickster father came up with to separate you from those who are naturally born of divine origins. Humanity collectively calls them demi-gods."
"I thought those were a myth," said Reiya, frowning.
"No, it's just that they've been put into 'summer camps' to train their powers to the point that they aren't recognized as those with divine blood in them. Especially the Greek/Roman pantheon, though they had to split the factions apart since the Romans were far too bloodthirsty for the Greeks," said Raze.
"So why aren't you in one of these camps?" asked Heimdall.
"Because I am not a demi-god. I might be 'human', but my soul is anything but. Hence why I've been hidden away in this small area of Japan for over nineteen years."
"Wait...how old are you?" asked Heimdall.
"Close to twenty. However I trapped myself in child form because I had no desire to go through the nightmare that is puberty. That and children get away with a lot more. I mostly use my adult form to be taken seriously before things get out of hand," said Raze. "It's not like age is a real factor for me."
One of his fathers was an angel, which was more like a giant ball of light and required a voluntary vessel to act among mortals that was damn hard to kill, and the other was a member of a very long-lived race where you were considered a child if you were younger than a few hundred years.
By all accounts age really was irrelevant in the long term. So long as all parties were old enough, it didn't really matter who he dated.
Reiya would have looked concerned had it not been for one important fact.
When the Trickster saved her life and 'empowered her' as he flippantly put it, he also extended her life span by a few centuries. Well, as long as she was working with Freya anyway. Odds were Reiya would eventually become a Valkyrie or something close to it, thus rendering the point moot.
"Hold up. If you're not a demi-god or a human, what are you?"
"The closest term for what Raze is happens to be hybrid," said Yamino helpfully.
"Say what? Then why does he smell so much like the old man?" asked Fenrir confused. He had mistaken Raze for his father because of the scent...it had taken a month before Jormungandr bothered to tell him the truth.
"I'm the product of two versions of Loki. One is an Asgardian, the other is merely using the identity to kill boredom and hide from his actual family," said Raze.
"If your name isn't Loki, what is it?" asked Reiya upset.
"Raziel Lokison. It's a simple way to acknowledge both of my unusual parents. Even if one did actually molest a horse to have one of my brothers," said Raze with a straight face.
Fenrir couldn't keep a straight face. He started howling his ass off with laughter. Even Yamino was having great difficulty not laughing.
He really, really hoped his youngest brother mentioned that to their father in his hearing range.
"In any case, once some of us are old enough to obtain passports to leave Japan, I was thinking of visiting America. Either for vacation or simply to visit the camps," said Raze.
"I can't access my trust until I'm eleven," said Reiya with a frown.
Raze had an unusual expression on his face.
"Please tell me there wasn't some stipulation about going to a certain bank called Gringotts..."
"Apparently I have to attend at least five years of schooling at this place in Scotland."
"Was one of your parents from the UK?" asked Raze.
"My mother," said Reiya sadly.
Raze looked openly pained.
"I think we should have a word with your family lawyers about changing the school. Hogwarts has really gone downhill, and considering the civil war currently going on, sending you into the UK is a guaranteed disaster waiting to happen."
"Civil war?" she repeated with wide eyes.
"There's a blood war going on between two factions. The 'Death Eaters' lead by one Tom Riddle, and the 'Order of the Phoenix' lead by one Albus Dumbledore. One side wants to wipe out anyone not from the old magic families or from a purely magical lineage, including those without magic at all. The other is lead by a rather senile pacifist who believes that the 'greater good' means it's acceptable to lose his own men if it meant the chance to 'redeem' hardened killers, unrepentant rapists, and open bigots back to the so-called Light side," said Raze flatly.
"How do you know so much about this civil war anyway?" asked Kasuma.
Raze went into one of his cabinets and pulled out what looked like newspapers.
"You do know most people have gone digital, right?" asked Narugami.
"Tell that to these idiots. They still use parchment and messenger birds," deadpanned Raze. Narugami winced.
"What are these?"
"The most widely accepted paper currently available in magical England. It's full of lies and misquotes, but it gives the general gist. If you want accuracy then it would be easier to read these," said Raze, pulling out magazines.
"The Quibbler?" read Reiya.
"It's a bit odd, but it doesn't cater to the lies the Ministry demands that the Prophet spread. That and Dad tends to keep me appraised, since apparently there's some self-fulfilling prophecy about me in England that I'd really like to avoid."
He was not revealing himself to the English until those idiots either got off their ass and cleaned up after their own mess, or they made it his problem by attacking his friends and family personally.
Generally though, if they were stupid enough to attack his close family then they'd have signed their own death sentence.
No mortal wizard was likely to get the better of Fenrir, Jormungandr or either of the Loki. And the less said about how Hel wanted to roast this Riddle over a spit for his stunt with his soul, the better.
The more Reiya read about this place, the more she wanted to run far, far away from it. She wanted nothing to do with a country that openly allowed people like Death Eaters to run rampant with only a pacifist to protect them.
Unfortunately the bulk of her inheritance was in England. There was no way for her to get out of this.
Raze sighed.
"I'll talk to your solicitor and see if we can't alter the terms of the requirements for you to inherit. Hopefully he'll see reason," said Raze.
Reiya's solicitor was from an old family who was friends with her father. Apparently Reiya was a pureblood witch with a weak core...until recently. It certainly explains how she was able to channel so much of Freya's power without hurting herself. Not that she ever did much fighting to begin with. Reiya was a peaceful soul by nature, and was still a little girl.
So naturally the man didn't exactly take the fact some upstart 'child' thought he could keep Reiya from attending Hogwarts "just because he wanted to keep his girlfriend close", as he put it.
His dismissal of Raze lasted only as long as it took for Raziel to reveal his faded scar and his 'human' identity. He really didn't like being "Harry Potter", because honestly he felt the fame and adoration of the English simply wasn't worth it.
They were inbred morons who couldn't get their heads out of their ass long enough to avoid pissing off damn near EVERY magical species in Europe, and then some.
What followed was a rather amusing (if one-sided) discussion that allowed for Reiya to receive private tutoring until she was deemed trained enough to pass her Ordinary Wizarding Levels and N.E.W.T.s as opposed to receiving a traditional education in Scotland due to the uncertain political climate.
At least that was the official reason anyway. The unofficial reason (if the English tried to press too much just to have access to a powerful unwed female, even if she was raised in Japan) was that her 'fiancee' had requested she receive personal training from his family to prepare her for her duties as wife. Something none of the pure bloods in England would dispute, since the pure bloods would likely force their daughters to marry very early to bring the numbers back up.
The name of the fiancee was keep firmly anonymous. Raziel had paid the goblins quite a bit of gold to keep it that way.
He really didn't want the English (either the pure blood or the first gens) to get the idea he was some sort of pedophile.
By Asgardian and Trickster standards, he was still very much a child, thus making the thing a lot easier to take.
That and the fact he definitely wasn't going to date Reiya outside of his child form anytime soon.
