19 years. Had it really been that long? Seth wondered to himself, as he hacked away at a rock with his pickaxe. His parole officer, Eggman approached him, and begun to unlock the chain on his right ankle that bound him to this group. Now all he needed was the left undone, and he was free. After the right was undone, Eggman stood up.
"Do you realize what today is?" he asked
"19 years since I was put in this hellhole for that damn loaf of bread" Seth replied, not caring if he were to be polite.
"Ah. That's where you are wrong. 5 years you served for the loaf of bread, the rest, because you ran."
As Eggman said this, he pulled a yellow slip of paper out, as well as a pen.
"No…no…please, anything but that!" Seth cried. This was the yellow ticket-of-leave that most dreaded, while others feared. It would make him an outcast, for all his years.
Eggman shoved this into Seth's pocket, and kneeled down to undo the left ankle hold. As soon as it was undone, he fled as if flames were almost right behind him. He looked around, the trees so green, the sky so blue, the ground, so clean.
He began to work on picking up trash with the other men in the park. At the end of the day, at pay time, he received barely anything.
Out of anger, he screamed at the man whom by which he was employed. "This handful of tin wouldn't even buy my god damn sweat!"
He slapped the man, and walked away.
