This is a Nanoha is a reincarnated FemHarry story. Just to be clear, when her 'other' side comes out she will be overpowered.
It was warm, and there was a gentle pulsing that made it ridiculously easy to stay asleep. Occasionally she would kick, as she tried to adjust her position to be a little more comfortable, but other than that it was really nice just being able to nap in this place. She could vaguely remember that she was supposed to be angry over something, but right now she just wanted to rest.
She had done enough, right? If this was what Death was like, then she was all for it.
And then her peaceful times were ended as the walls began to close in. She felt a force begin to push her comforting bed in a vaguely downward motion.
It was only when she felt the open air again that a startling realization came to her.
That comforting place had been a womb, and she was being reborn!
A loud, unhappy wail filled the room as she vaguely heard the doctors tell her new parents that her mother had given birth to a girl...in a language she was only passingly familiar with. It sounded almost identical to Japanese, which she was fluent in but not very good at when it came to the many nuances.
And forget the writing system...she was lucky to hold a proper conversation without making an idiot of herself.
For the next few days, she took stock where she could. As a newborn her ability to control her body was nonexistent...and forget about embarrassment...after the third time her mother changed her diapers she gave up on trying to maintain any dignity and just decided to roll with it.
At the very least, her new family was nothing like the one she had left behind. She had an older brother and sister for one thing, and they were clearly happy to have a baby sister added to the family. Her father was still injured from some attack, so she didn't see much of him, but her mother was one she was happy with as she could hear and feel the love coming from the woman every time she was in her presence.
Sure, she would miss her friends, but they had been drifting apart for years now anyway.
It wasn't until she started to gain any real control over her body...however limited it was...that she came to the realization that her magic had traveled back with her. However there was a different feel to it and it was highly immature.
Which meant no training for now, as it could easily damage it beyond what she could repair naturally.
Nanoha, and that was her new name now, grew to love her new family. Sure, it was a bit weird but what family didn't have it's quirks?
She could tell after careful investigation that whatever magic was on this world wasn't as structured as her old one. In fact she barely felt any, if at all.
For the next couple of years, Nanoha quietly experimented with her magic and enjoyed her second childhood...regardless of how bored she was. Her new body was clearly meant to handle the higher tier spells, but without a proper focus or any idea how to access her core, she might as well be a muggle.
At least her family was more than happy to let her experiment with 'safe' versions of real weapons and allow her to figure out what suited her best. After over a year of experimenting, she came to the realization that her training in how to use a bo-staff from some friends made her naturally suited to learning how to use a naginata.
Plus side, her father was more inclined to pride over terror at how quickly his youngest took to learning how to use the blade...and how fast she moved on to the more advanced lessons.
A few years later...
Nanoha looked at the scene of confusion, panic and utter chaos in her parent's still fledgling bakery. One of the assistant's wrote the date wrong on a major order, one that could make or break the bakery, and now everyone was in a panic while her parents had left to get several ingredients they were lacking to finish it, leaving her alone in the kitchen with only Miyuki watching her.
Miyuki was trying to calm everyone down, to no avail while keeping an eye on her six year old sister.
Nanoha, or rather the old soul within her, sighed. They were never going to get anything done at this rate and she didn't want to see the bakery fail. What they needed wasn't magic, but someone to take charge and end the confusion.
To that end she easily slipped off the chair she had been sitting in, grabbed one of the nearby metal ladles (and ducked Miyuki's attempt to relocate her) before slamming it hard onto the nearest metal surface.
The jarring sound startled everyone into quieting down and looking in the direction of the source.
A fire lit in Nanoha's eyes as she let her 'general' side, as an old friend had once called it, come to the forefront.
"Listen up! I'm only going to say this once, so if you want to get this order done quickly so that we don't mess this up, then pay attention!"
Something in the tone of her voice made them stop arguing, and listen. Seeing she had their full attention, Nanoha quickly organized the kitchen staff based on her instincts. By the time her parents had returned, the kitchen was no longer a disorganized chaotic mess, but a scene of organized production and activity.
And Miyuki was giving Nanoha odd looks of admiration and confusion.
"What happened?"
Miyuki dutifully covered her baby sister's ears as she told them.
"Nanoha kicked their asses into gear and got them organized. I've never seen anything like it," said Miyuki proudly. Nanoha beamed at her.
Shirou looked at his workers, then at Nanoha who looked ready for a nap. He wasn't going to comment on the fact his youngest child had certain knacks that would need to be carefully trained just yet. He had that order to fill.
Either way, he was going to toss his daughter to the same trainers who had taught his father when he was old enough. Somehow, he knew Nanoha could handle it.
(He did not expect his little girl to become even more terrifying when her family or close friends were threatened. Sure came in handy later though.)
Nanoha looked at the calculations on her paper with some concentration. It had taken ages to get this right, and she was still short the materials, but better to have it done now than when she could legally afford it. At the very least it would mean she only needed to tweak it once she had the items.
Blood runes could be so finicky if you didn't have the proper material...fortunately wands were a short cut and she knew how to cast them without one out of boredom and necessity.
Her friends had nearly strangled her when they discovered she had worked out how to cast runes without a wand while laid up because her leg was too badly damaged to use magic. Stupid undead monstrosity.
She felt cool satisfaction when the magic did as it should, even if it was only a minor runic array.
She missed her focus...it was a beautiful red gem that could channel enormous amounts of magic and had an automatic rebirth function thanks to the number of phoenix feathers that had been used in it's creation...she often suspected that was the source of the rich red coloring, especially since she had placed it near a phoenix undergoing a burning day before activating it for the first time.
As her days slowly passed by, her proficiency in old world magic increased. Unlike the children who had grown up after the initial trip, those that came from the old world kept up the practice...until she was the last one left.
It was good to see that the leylines had finally recovered and were even thriving since that fiasco which temporally displaced her original world, and even set it back several centuries. Without magicals to tap into the natural energies of the planet, the people had forgotten about the wars that had sparked the migration...and those that caused the mess were either trapped or wiped out by this point from the backlash.
Nanoha sighed, mostly out of boredom. While learning Japanese properly was a nice bonus, and seeing how history progressed without the influence of the magical communities was interesting, the simple fact was that she was so far ahead of what was available at the school that she usually finished her homework quickly enough to practice with her weapon.
She hoped her infamous luck would kick in soon...she was so bored it wasn't even funny.
As if the gods (which made her snort on occasion considering what caused her rebirth in the first place) heard her, a certain mage would end up crashing in close vicinity of her home and finally end her boredom.
To say Nanoha was overjoyed to see that familiar crimson bauble was an understatement. And then she saw the 'additives' some genius added to her device and got annoyed.
Clearly some idiot got his hands on 'Raging Heart' and decided that since they couldn't function the higher tier of her capabilities, they would have to add ones they could access.
Raging Heart felt chained, restricted by the 'extra' functions that were a paltry imitation of the real ones already programmed into her.
Unfortunately there were only a few ways she could get rid of them permanently, and that would require more preparation than she had access to at the moment.
Besides, there was no reason to be hasty when it came to the best way to remove the additives...there was a reason why the "Rebirth Requiem" was designated as an emergency measure only.
Taking down the slime monster was easy...she had been calculating the trajectory to hit the thing without even thinking about it once she realized what a stupid idea it would be to do an up-close and personal attack.
Besides, it was a slime monster. She was a female. She might not have hit puberty yet in this body but she knew all too well what those things did to girls in dungeons.
Nanoha had a look of unholy glee on her face at having her focus back.
She fired without hesitation, not even bothering to wait for Raging Heart to get a 'proper' lock on the trio of monsters.
She frowned at the power output. That blast was acceptable to blow the slime away to expose the core, but it was far below what she considered acceptable standards. She knew Raging Heart could handle far more than that, so why was she holding back?
Yuuno POV
There was something strange about Nanoha. For a girl who had no previous exposure to magic, she was using it like a seasoned pro with decades of experience. He should know...his favorite cousin was equally gifted, even if she kept cursing out the fact the TSAB had revoked her authorization to buy a new device after the fourth one blew up.
No one was sure what Freya did to cause her Devices to blow, but what little he got from his aunts and uncles was that she kept trying to illegally modify them and the programs couldn't handle it because they were all too low-quality. And she was unable to get a higher tier Device since she refused to join the TSAB and they had heavy restrictions on any intelligent devices like Raging Heart.
So far she was forced to make her own, but it was slow going since she had bills to pay.
Nanoha felt far too much like Freya...and he didn't think it was a coincidence.
"Hey Yuuno...what's the TSAB like?" asked Nanoha.
Yuuno started, because he had never mentioned the Time Space Administration Bureau once to Nanoha.
"How do you know about them?"
"Raging Heart. There's a search function that connects to the Inter-dimensional News Outlets and it came up rather frequently...fortunately she was able to access the public domain infonet, so I was able to read up on them."
Yuuno blinked. Twice.
"Raging Heart can access the infonet and the news outlets? From here?"
"Apparently a past user added that particular application...you just have to know where to look for it," said Nanoha dryly. It was one of the few additives that she planned to keep, with a few tweaks of course.
After confirming her story, Yuuno went into as much detail as he could. He had learned early on that simple answers weren't going to work for Nanoha...she liked hearing details that most would dismiss.
"Yuuno-kun, what are the odds that the TSAB is going to show up and investigate the fact that the Jewel Seeds landed here in short order?"
Yuuno winced.
"Fairly high. The disturbance I read about in the report said that it was a fairly big dimensional quake and it was a TSAB cruiser that was initially tasked to transport it. The majority of the crew survived but the ship itself was heavily crippled to the point they might have to scrap it and there were several casualties on top of heavy injuries. Considering the instability and damage one seed alone could cause if triggered, I have no doubt they're on their way as we speak."
Nanoha made a face.
"Great...at least the fact I'm a civilian will keep me from having to fill out any paperwork," she replied.
"Actually considering how fast you took to Raging Heart, you will have to fill out an ownership application if you want to keep her," said Yuuno apologetically.
"I had a feeling, but what I meant was that I won't have to deal with paperwork or have to listen to whatever captain shows up complaining about insubordination or protocol since I plan to remain a civilian agent for a while," clarified Nanoha.
She never did like joining up with big groups, and any half-way intelligent government agency was hardly going to turn down the chance to hire an outside source that they could deny any involvement with if things went sour.
Then again her experiences with magical government had left her rather soured on trusting any of them in the first place. Particularly after the fiasco that caused her to use the ritual of rebirth.
The thing that really riled her up was meeting the mystery blond girl who was also after the Jewel Seeds.
It wasn't anything she did that angered her, but rather the fact that she could tell right away the girl was being abused...likely physically and emotionally.
If there was one thing that earned her immediate ire, it was abuse. Especially if the victim was a child and the likely abuser was a parent or other guardian.
