Harry was pissed, but he kept his cool. Dumbledore had this stupid disappointed expression on his face after the wards alerted him to a death in the school.
The second it had ended, he had stormed up to his dorm, grabbed his phone and called the number of the barrister that his family had hired the moment they learned Umbridge was teaching a core class. He was there within an hour, and by the time the aurors showed up, Dumbledore was already well behind when it came to damage control.
It took several hours, and a lot of arguing on the part of the aurors and his barrister, but the end result was the same.
Umbridge had attacked a known heir of two ancient and noble families. The heir in question had defended himself and she had lost her life during the attack. The young wizard had gone to extreme lengths to avoid the woman and had yet to even get a detention with her, despite three long months of the woman trying to force him into one.
It all ended in the same thing. Harry Potter had killed in self-defense and thus wasn't even given a slap on the wrist. It really didn't help that no one liked the woman to begin with.
With Umbridge gone, the atmosphere had lightened considerably. That being said Harry wasn't going to let go of the self-study because he was getting a lot more done without the time consuming classes that were too slow for his tastes.
Since he was learning healing from Madam Pomphrey directly, Snape had excused him from Potions classes so that he could get those lessons from the mediwitch instead.
After demonstrating his animagus form to McGonagall, she had also excused him from her classes as being able to transform was an automatic pass on the exams...both of them. It came to the point where it wasn't uncommon to see Harry in his common room or the library with a partial animagus transformation while he studied.
It made the pure bloods uncomfortable, but at least most of the girls were polite enough to ask before touching his ears, as his tail was at least hidden. At least no one had connected the ears to the fact he was part of the beast-kin, even if he had been adopted into it.
One of the things he had picked up around that toad bitch (Umbridge), was that she had either figured out or recognized the royal family of the Afterglow Savanna, because she had hinted about outing his 'identity' to the entire school and called him quite a few things that hinted she had figured out he wasn't entirely human anymore.
Luna was humming as she sauntered over to him and promptly plopped down into his lap. Harry barely paid any attention besides adjusting his seating to better accommodate the extra weight and limbs.
"I still don't understand why out of all the girls in the school, you're dating Loony Lovegood," said Ron. With Defense basically in the air, they had a free period so long as they were actually trying to study.
Harry glared at him, causing Ron to shut up. However Hermione huffed as well, causing him to look at her.
"I still can't believe your family is allowing you to form a harem," said Hermione.
Harry sighed, as this wasn't the first (or likely last) time he would hear her bitch about this.
"For the last time, my family is a bit more traditional than the middle class ones either of you are from. And it's not about sleeping around with multiple women as everyone...including you Hermione...seem to think it is. It's considered normal for a higher ranking member of society to establish a harem. In fact it's pretty much encouraged to an extent."
Especially for the royal family, he neglected to add. It was less about the multiple bed partners and more about showing off the stability of the family and insuring multiple chances for the bloodline to continue with accepted mothers.
Harry sighed, before a thought occurred to him.
"Hermione, you're thinking about this the wrong way."
"Then explain it to me in a way I'll understand," she growled.
Harry pulled out an all too familiar book.
"The sort of dynamic I'm establishing is more akin to a lion pride then what you're thinking of," he deadpanned. "The main reason my family is encouraging and outright supporting me developing a harem is more to keep the peace than anything, since none of the current harem members would be remotely interested in me, and to be honest I barely pay them any attention even in passing."
Hermione stared at him in disbelief.
"Are you telling me that your family would have openly allowed you into what's considered a collective harem?"
"Clearly you never really did your homework on the subject," said Harry bluntly, causing her to become incensed. "The sort of harem I'm referring to isn't just a polyamorous group that shares the same bed partners and has wild orgies...like everyone seems to think. It's more in line with the sort of thing you'd see in the older cultures before career women were openly a thing."
Hermione's offended expression turned confused.
"What?"
"Did you even read up on traditional harems, or did you just get it in your head I was going to be picking up girls left and right to sleep with?" he asked.
"..."
"Harems where I come from are more about close confidants and picking multiple acceptable partners to further the bloodline while establishing political matches with other families," explained Harry carefully. "For example having Luna means that only her children will inherit the Potter or Black name."
"Why?" asked Ron.
"Long story short, most of the girls in this school would be too closed minded to have in the harem," said Harry bluntly.
Namely the pure blood girls would throw an absolute bitch fit over Harry being considered one of the beast kin, royal bloodline or not. They wouldn't even allow him to talk about his home without telling him to stop talking about it, so why would he want them in his harem? Luna was one of the only girls in the school who had expressed an actual, honest interest in his homeland.
Besides, Harry already had a career lined up that his father had arranged once he was old enough to take over. It was the sort of job that would involve long, boring hours away from his harem and he didn't want any strife when he had a chance to properly visit and hopefully sire a few cubs. Most of the girls here would likely be too needy for his tastes and needs, and they didn't deserve that.
Luna was fine with the fact he would likely be gone for days at a time, since the main reason she had agreed to the whole thing was because of the degree of freedom and protection being a member would provide. The fact Harry was honestly kind to her in his own way and didn't dismiss her quirks or belittle her for them was a pleasant bonus.
Harry just hoped she maintained that behavior once she found out about the...extra...he ended up bringing back after that week-long visit to the kingdom of the Scorching Sands.
It was Christmas break, and Harry desperately needed to get away from the castle. Even if it mean babysitting his nephew for hours on end so his brother and sister-in-law had some much needed...adult...time.
This time however, he was taking Luna with him. Mostly to gauge how she would respond to the extra he had brought home.
Luna took one look at young girl about her own age, and then looked at Leona who was currently napping.
Najma Viper stared back pleasantly.
"You have a surprising lack of nargles around you, it's rather refreshing."
"Are you really one of those Lovegoods who run the Quibbler? I find the articles entertaining," replied Najma.
Upon being brought to the harem and learning of it's current member, Najma had picked up a copy out of curiosity and the hopes it would at least give her something to talk about with the senior member of the harem.
She was hooked by the first magazine and found the content very amusing since it wasn't another ministry mouthpiece. If you could look underneath the underneath, the quips were very entertaining to read and the puzzles sufficiently challenging.
Luna beamed at her, and Najma knew that had been the right thing to say. Leona woke up an hour later to find both girls cheerfully talking about the odd creatures he was half-certain Luna either made up or could See with eyes that humans simply lacked. He wasn't sure which and he didn't care, so long as it made her happy.
Content the two members of his harem were not going to start a long, bitter fight behind his back when he wasn't around Leona went to get some food. He was starving for something real, not the mockery of food that damn school served.
Luna looked at Najma, who was perfectly happy with the situation. Leona was a better match than she could have gotten on her own, and her parents were happy for her as well. It had become obvious over the course of the week he had spent helping Kalim that Leona had a weakness for cute, younger things.
The king's children had taken full advantage of this ever chance they could, and Leona had been suckered into giving many of them a ride while transformed quite a few times. Jamil was usually good about getting him away whenever he got too irritated with it all.
Since Najma was only twelve, Leona had made it clear they would not be sharing a bed quite yet. He preferred his partners older, and she was far too young. At this point she was considered his betrothed, same as Luna.
Luna got along ridiculously well with the royal family, which eased another concern he had in his mind about the whole thing. In fact Cheka absolutely adored his soon to be auntie. One of the main reasons Leona went back for his final year of Hogwarts was to get away from being turned into the babysitter for his sister-in-law.
Just because he was good with kids didn't mean he appreciated being roped into watching his nephew or having the kid dumped on him. After all, toddlers were ridiculously loud and hard to corral on a good day.
He came back to an extremely huffy looking Hermione. Apparently a letter had been delivered via Fleur who was dating the twin's brother Bill after she happened to hear that Leona was developing his own harem.
Concerned for his 'safety', Molly had read the letter while Hermione was in their 'super secret clubhouse' as Sirius had dubbed it, and it was from Fleur's father politely inquiring if the boy would be interested in adding his youngest daughter Gabrielle to the harem.
Gabrielle was highly smitten with the boy who went out of his way to retrieve her when her sister couldn't, and her parents had zero issue with her being part of a harem.
Most of the dorm honestly thought Potter was joking about making an actual harem.
Finding out that no, it was most certainly not was a bit of a shock. Even more so when it came out that his family not only knew, but was actively encouraged it.
Ginny was somewhat incensed over the matter, mostly over Luna becoming the first official member of said harem instead of her.
Harry...was just glad when the entire year was over. It was almost more trouble than it was worth going back.
On the plus side, he did leave Hogwarts with above full marks thanks to all the work he put into his studies. And a few letters of recommendation should he chose to actually become a mediwizard or healer.
Madam Pomphrey said he had a knack for the subject.
(If only she knew...)
The image your soul takes is...Savanaclaw!
Leona snorted, as if there was any doubt. The sheer relief being in Night Raven was immeasurable, if only because he didn't have to hide anything anymore. Being able to let his ears and tail out was a relief.
And the less said about those stuffy, annoying robes the better. At least the ceremonial robes were only for official slash formal events.
He crashed the second he found his dorm room and picked his bed.
