"Ah! Minerva, what are you doing?!" Gerome cried out as Minerva continued using her head to gently, but forcefully, nudge him forward to an unknown destination. "Where are you taking me?!" Once Minerva had finally stopped pushing him, he took a moment to straighten his attire out while giving his partner a questionable and suspicious look. "Honestly, what could've possibly gotten you all worked up about?" It was then that he noticed a familiar face staring blankly at the two of them, which caused him to let out a surprised yelp and take a surprised step back.
Ananias nonchalantly raised his hand up to lazily greet the surprised wyvern rider. "Hey."
"Ananias?!"
Ananias simply nodded as he leaned back and let out an exasperated sigh. "Yeah, it's me." He looked towards Minerva as Gerome curiously followed suit. "Minerva here led me here and told me to stay put for some reason." He looked back towards Gerome. "So… did you want to talk to me or something, or what?"
Gerome frowned. "What? Me?" He folded his arms as he let out an annoyed huff. "Preposterous! I want absolutely nothing to do with all of this changing-destiny business, so why would I ever wish to interact with those who actively participate in it?"
Ananias simply shrugged. "Well if you didn't bring me here, then who did?" He calmly indicated towards Minerva, who was simply sitting down and watching the two of them. "Your wyvern isn't exactly going out of her way to fetch more people you know."
Minerva let out a shriek, causing both Gerome and Ananias to look at her and give her surprised looks, Gerome especially, though due to his mask, as per usual, it was a bit harder to tell, whereas Ananias' looked just about as dull as it usually was. "Hm? What is it girl?" Gerome took a step towards Minerva and gave her neck a soothing and reassuring rub. "Come on, you know you can tell me," he coaxed. Minerva then let out a long, low shriek as she nodded her head towards Ananias. Gerome let out a surprised gasp as he quickly took his hands off of Minerva's neck and took an incredulous step back. "What?!" Minerva repeated her previous shriek. "Yes, I heard you the first time!" Gerome cried. He folded his arms as he turned his back to Minerva and shook his head incredulously. "Honestly Minerva, did you really come to all of this trouble just for something as silly as that? What were you thinking?!" Minerva let out an annoyed grunt. Gerome angrily turned himself back around. "Yes, yes it is silly!"
"Huh, you guys are having an actual argument," Ananias dully commented. "That's rare. What's the matter?" He nonchalantly folded his arms. "Having trouble in paradise?" he casually deadpanned.
"My apologies," Gerome said as he tried, in vain, to leave with Minerva, only for Minerva to squander his efforts by simply using her superior wyvern strength to resist all of Gerome's attempts to pull her away from her spot, "it seems that Minerva has wasted both of our time over something extremely silly and unimportant. I will see to it that this will never happen agai – ah!" Gerome jumped back and stared at Minerva in shock. "Minervykins!" he cried out incredulously. "Did you just snap your teeth at me?!" Minerva nodded, letting out an angry huff as she closed her eyes and defiantly looked away.
Much to Gerome's surprise, he could hear Ananias snicker to himself, an uncontrollable grin forming on his lips as he tried, in vain, to cover it up. "Oh my gosh," was all he could say as he continued to uncontrollably snicker to himself.
Gerome grumbled angrily to himself a bit before turning to Ananias and asking, "I suppose you find this amusing, do you?"
Jumping up a bit from realizing that Gerome had caught him red-handed, Ananias quickly and frantically straightened himself up, attempted to act completely normal (though by doing this, it made it even more obvious that something was amiss), and said, "No no, of course not. There is absolutely nothing funny about a wyvern rider who can't get along with his wyvern. Nope, nothing funny at all."
Gerome sighed as he folded his arms, shook his head, and said, "Ananias, you're not fooling anyone."
Realizing that the jig was up, Ananias smirked at Gerome and said, "Yeah, well, neither are you."
Gerome glowered at the crimson haired man, but unfortunately for him, Ananias was one of the few who was never really intimidated by it. "What?"
Ananias simply shrugged, a goofy grin on his face as he nodded towards Minerva and explained, "Well, no offense, but it's pretty obvious that Minerva is as loyal and as intelligent of a partner as one can get," Minerva let out a smug grunt, "so this whole 'silly and unimportant' and snapping her teeth at you business has obviously got to mean something, and judging by your reaction, it's got to be something embarrassing for you personally, am I right?"
Shocked that Ananias was able to see through his charade so easily, Gerome let out a small and nervous gasp before folding his arms, looking away defiantly, and answering, "P-Preposterous! Honestly, what about this could've possibly encouraged such an idea from you in the first place?" Minerva then, with surprising speed and accuracy, knocked Gerome's mask off of his face and quickly picked it up with her teeth, keeping it out of Gerome's reach as he frantically attempted to reclaim it, with little success. "Minerva! Come on girl, give the mask back!"
Minerva simply shook her head before she threw the mask to Ananias, who didn't miss a beat. "Well well," he said monotonously, though his face showed a hint of amusement from all of the hilarity that was ensuing, "looks like our Minerva is smart enough to understand basic metaphors and symbolism."
"Ananias," Gerome commanded, reaching his hand out so that Ananias could properly return his mask back to him, "give me back my mask this instant!"
Ananias winced. "I would," he slowly explained, "but all joking aside," he indicated towards Minerva, "technically Minerva asked something of me first, so it kind of takes priority."
Gerome's jaw dropped upon hearing Ananias' admittedly weak explanation for not giving him back his mask. "How is that not a joke?!" he cried.
Ananias simply shrugged. "Well, it's true," he said matter-of-factly. "And besides," he nodded towards Minerva, "whatever Minerva wants obviously concerns you, so…." He shrugged again.
Gerome let out an exasperated sigh before looking at both Minerva and Ananias and saying, "You two really want me to do it that badly, do you?"
Minerva nodded as Ananias sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck and answered, "Well, I technically don't know what we're talking about here, but yeah, sure."
Gerome let out another exasperated sigh before cupping his face into his hands, shaking his head, dragging his hands down his face, and saying, "Fine," he turned to Minerva, "if you insist." He then took a deep breath, turned to Ananias, and through gritted teeth, awkwardly said, "I… admire your… mastery over your composure."
Ananias raised an eyebrow in mild surprise at Gerome's little confession. "My… mastery over my composure?" he repeated incredulously. "You mean my… expressionlessness?"
Gerome averted his eyes away from Ananias' questionable gaze and nodded. "Yes."
Ananias took a moment to process what he had just confirmed before nodding his head slowly and saying, "Huh, and yet people keep telling me that I should be more expressive." He then looked down at the mask in his hand. "Wait a minute." He looked back up to Gerome and pointed at his mask skeptically. "Is that why you wear a mask? Because you secretly want to be as expressionless as I am?!"
Gerome sheepishly shuffled his feet a bit. "It's not that exactly, but yes, I suppose that's the gist of it." He then slowly took the mask out of Ananias' hands, put it back on, and added, "We've all been through such a huge ordeal. I guess I was always envious of you for not being so noticeably affected by it. I always secretly figured that a mask was the only way I could keep people from reading the emotions that I didn't want them to read, you know?"
Ananias placed his hands onto his hips and shook his head. "I guess, but being as expressionless as me isn't exactly something to brag about, you know? Especially since you've got plenty of talents to brag about yourself."
Gerome gave Ananias a look of mild surprise. "Hm?"
Ananias nodded. "Yeah. You were always one of our best fighters and you were always focused on what the group needed rather than what the group might've wanted." He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "I guess you can say that I was always a bit envious of you for, you know, being as perfect as you were."
Gerome let out an annoyed huff. "'Perfect' you say. A 'perfect' person wouldn't be jealous of another person's skills, that's for sure." He then smirked, let out an amused chuckle, and said, "Look at us. We're acting like fools, and for what?"
Ananias nodded, letting out an amused chuckle of his own. "I know, right?" They took a moment to soak the irony of the situation in before Ananias added, "You know, I always thought that we were in two completely different worlds, but now I've realized that we're not so different after all."
Gerome nodded his head in agreement. "Agreed." They both then turned to Minerva. "Minerva, was this your plan all along?" Minerva nodded as she let out a small shriek. Gerome let out an amused grunt. "What a clever girl you are," he said as he stepped forward to give Minerva a deserving pet.
Ananias nodded. "Yeah," he then frowned, "but now what? I mean, it's not like we're going to start talking to each other more now, are we?"
Gerome nodded his head solemnly. "Yes, I see your point. Neither of us are really the type for social interaction." The two of them thought it over for a bit before Gerome suggested, "Well, since we now know each other's shortcomings, how about we work to make sure that they are no longer shortcomings anymore?"
"So, like what? Train with each other?" Ananias asked.
Gerome smiled and nodded. "Precisely. You'll teach me how to improve keeping my composure, and I'll teach you how to become a better fighter. Well, how does that sound?"
Ananias winced. "Honestly, all you've got to do is clear your mind and focus on what you're doing and mostly ignore everything else. That's all that there really is to it."
Gerome frowned. "You're giving me your secret already? Why is that?"
"It's just," Ananias sheepishly scratched the back of his head, "it seems like an awful lot more work for me than it is for you, especially considering the fact that training with you can be kind of… painful. I know you've got the discipline to train yourself, so how about I just promise you that I'll practice twice as hard on my fighting ability this time around and that I'll ask you for help whenever I need it and that'll be it?"
At this, Gerome let out an amused chuckle. "Yes, I suppose that would suit us best, wouldn't it?" He held out his hand for Ananias to shake. "Well then, shall we make it official?"
Ananias smiled and answered, "Sure." They shook hands, let go, and smiled at each other, Minerva doing the same as she watched her boys getting along so well with one another.
"…."
"…."
"…."
"…."
"…."
"…."
The two boys fidgeted awkwardly for a moment before Ananias took a retreating step back, pointing behind him with his thumb, and said, "I'm just… going to leave now."
Gerome nodded, took a step back himself, and replied, "Yes, we shall go as well," he turned to Minerva, "won't we Minerva?" Minerva let out an exasperated sigh before nodding her head and giving her partner a quick shriek in response.
"Well then," Ananias said, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly as he continued to walk backwards, "I guess I'll see you around then."
Gerome nodded. "Indeed."
The two of them then turned around and properly walked away from each other, Minerva shaking her head disappointingly as she followed Gerome to wherever it was he was taking them. Honestly, humans, who could fathom them?
Author's Note #1: Well, that concludes all of Gerome's supports. I hope that they were all enjoyable for all of you! It was a lot of fun writing things from Minerva's point of view. I hope it was fun for you guys too! The next supports will be Nah, then Cynthia, Noire, Kjelle, Zephyra, Lumaria, Yarne, Laurent, and then Brady.
Author's Note #2: Sadly, you won't be getting any supports from me for a while. School's back in session and I need to focus on that at the moment. Hope you guys will be able to patiently wait until then!
