Kjelle jogged lightly to match the sluggish pace of Ananias' jogging, an amused smirk on her face as she threatened to lap him for possibly the tenth time that day. "What's the matter?" she asked challengingly, barely even panting despite the obscene amount of laps around the camp she had already ran. "You done running already?"
Ananias panted heavily before slowly shaking his head and answering, "No," and leaving it at that in order to preserve the little bit of air that was left in his lungs.
Kjelle laughed heartily. "That's the spirit! Feel that burn! Learn to love it!" She then went back to running at her normal pace with a content smile on her face.
Ever since she and Ananias had made amends and officially became friends again, Ananias had offered to train with her, as their completely different ways of life and schedules made it difficult for them to spend quality time with each other otherwise. At first, Kjelle had her doubts about the idea and voiced them accordingly, but after a long and careful deliberation, they both agreed that while Ananias could train alongside her, that didn't necessarily have to mean that she had to adjust her training schedule to accommodate him; so while Kjelle continued to regularly follow her absolutely ludicrous training regime, Ananias simply accompanied her with a more reasonable one of us own. Despite running circles around Ananias both literally and metaphorically, Kjelle admitted that she enjoyed the company. Ananias was honestly the perfect training partner for her: silent throughout the majority, disciplined enough to keep going without having to force her to encourage him to keep going too much, and willing to trade some small talk whenever she instigated it. True, to others, it might've sounded somewhat pointless (what was the point of having a training buddy if you had limited interaction with them), but for both Ananias and Kjelle, this plan was practically perfect. They both got to train in silence, which allowed them to truly focus on their workout, and while they didn't socialize with each other too much, the very fact that they knew that the other person was there and that they could exchange some small talk to each other whenever they wanted came with a good feeling. Their relationship had developed and improved a bit because of it. While their differences did cause problems for the two from time to time, they arguably had the most nonchalant relationship amongst everyone in the army.
After the two had finished their run, Kjelle began panting with a satisfied smile on her face as Ananias collapsed to the ground, laying down on his back and watching the sky and the clouds that inhabited it as he took this very moment to let his body rest from the complete torture he had forced it to go through. He wiped his brow from the layer of sweat covering it and asked, "How many times did you pass me this time?"
Kjelle looked down and smiled. "Thirteen times."
Ananias let out an exhausted sigh. "Still no change then, huh?"
Kjelle shook her head. "Not necessarily. Believe it or not, you've actually been improving quite a bit since we started doing this. You just got to be more patient about these types of things. You're not going to change overnight."
"Yeah," Ananias said with a nod. "But considering the fight we've got ourselves in, I'm going to have to. In fact," he looked at her, "if I have to be honest, I've always thought that I had to be more like you out there."
Kjelle couldn't help but blush at the inadvertent compliment. "W-What?"
Ananias nodded. "You're a monster out there, you know that?" He shook his head slightly. "At this rate, I'm never going to be like you."
Kjelle frowned. "I don't think you should be too worried about that."
Ananias cocked an eyebrow in surprise. "Hmm?"
"If everyone in the army were the same, then we'd all get wiped out the moment the enemy found out one of our weaknesses," she explained. "You should be proud to be you bringing what little you've got to offer rather than being like someone else, no matter how much more you think they contribute compared to you."
"You say that as if you don't."
"Well, when you really think about it, I don't," Kjelle admitted. "There's a lot more to an army than fighting, or at least, there should be, and in that sense, I actually sort of contribute the least out of everyone here."
Ananias stared thoughtfully at her for a moment before saying, "You contribute enough."
Kjelle let out a small chuckle. "Thanks. Same can be said about you."
Ananias nodded understandingly. "Thanks." They then became silent for a moment before Ananias asked, "Is this what our relationship has become? Just us reassuring each other that we're not actually the failures we think ourselves as?"
Kjelle shrugged. "It seems that way. But you know what?" She gave Ananias a small smile. "I don't really mind that. In all honesty, I think it's kind of nice. I don't usually get to talk about this kind of stuff."
Ananias nodded. "Yeah. I feel like a weight has sort of been lifted off of my shoulders, knowing that there's someone who understands this side of me. It's reassuring."
Kjelle looked thoughtfully up at the sky. "Yeah, it really is," she muttered. "And the more I think about it… I don't ever really want that feeling to ever leave."
"… Yeah. But… we've got to leave each other eventually, right?"
"Well, that depends. Do you really want to?"
"… No. But isn't that just how it works sometimes?"
Kjelle nodded. "Yes, but shouldn't we at least try to make it work first before we dismiss it?"
Ananias looked at Kjelle in silence for a moment before saying, "The way you're talking about it, you make us sound like we're in a relationship or something."
Kjelle blushed. "Y-Yeah, I guess it does sort of sound that way, doesn't it?"
"But then again, if we were in a relationship, I guess we'd have a chance to make what we've got last a lot longer, huh?"
Kjelle slowly nodded. "I guess… but can we actually be in that type of relationship? I mean, we're like, the least romantic people here."
Ananias sat up. "Well… I've always thought you were attractive." He looked at a now blushing Kjelle. "What about you?"
Kjelle hesitated for a moment before reluctantly nodding. "Yes, as much as I hate to admit it, I've always sort of been attracted to you, despite how much of a pretty boy you are."
Ananias' eyes widened in surprise. "Pretty boy?!"
"That's not the point!" Kjelle snapped. "Do you think that we could make that type of relationship between us work?"
"Well…" Ananias grabbed one of Kjelle's hands and squeezed it tenderly for a bit, causing the both of them to lightly blush and feel a sudden warmth in their chests, "does… does that tell you anything?"
Kjelle nodded, smiling happily upon spotting the blush on Ananias face. "Yes, yes it does."
Ananias returned her smile with one of his own. "Then I guess we've got a relationship then."
Ending: Ananias and Kjelle
Ananias became the official messenger between the multitudes of Annas. While they did not seem to act like a normal couple, his aunts could attest that he and Kjelle shared a particularly strong and sentimental bond with each other.
Author's Note: Hardest S-Support by far to make work naturally. Welp, hoped you all liked that! Kjelle's supports were a nice challenge, but next up is Zephyra, followed by Lumaria, Yarne, Laurent, and then Brady. An original character again! Let's hope you all like her! See you next time!
