"Gah!" Yarne yelped as he moved this way and that past the multitude of Shepherds who were inadvertently blocking his way as he attempted to throw off his pursuers. "S-Sorry! Coming through!" It was then that he spotted a familiar crimson-haired trickster. He lifted a hand over his head and waved it frantically in the hopes of getting said man's attention. "Ananias!" he cried. "Ananias, hey!"
Ananias stopped in his tracks and looked towards the frantically running Taguel coming towards him. "Hmm?"
Yarne ran up and pounced onto him, causing Ananias' eyes to widen slightly in surprise for a moment before almost immediately recomposing himself, as by now, he had become used to antics such as these from the cowardly Taguel. "You've got to help me!" Yarne begged in between pants caused by all of the running he had just forced himself to do. "I've got to get them off my tail, but they just won't let up! Please, you've got to help me find a place to hide!"
Ananias let out an exasperated sigh. "Fine." He didn't even bother asking who or what Yarne was actually running away from. It was probably just some wild animal or someone he didn't feel like being around chasing after him, otherwise, if it had been an actual enemy, he would've let everyone know by now. Ananias looked around a bit before spotting a crate that was just Yarne's size. He then proceeded to calmly get Yarne off of him, jog up to said crate, open it up, and urgently whispered, "Get in."
Yarne let out a sigh of relief before giving Ananias a grateful smile. "Thanks, man! I owe you one."
"That's what you always say," Ananias muttered under his breath as Yarne quickly scampered into the crate and he closed the lid on top of him, taking a seat on it for good measure.
It was then that Chrom ran up to him, panting heavily as he looked around for a moment before turning to Ananias and asking, "Ananias, have you seen Yarne anywhere? I swear he ran this way just a minute ago, but now, I can't seem to find him anywhere!"
Ah, so that's what this was. Ananias should've figured. "Ran off after you asked him to be on the front lines again, huh?" he asked knowingly.
Chrom nodded as he let out a frustrated sigh. "Yes. I understand that the idea of being on the front lines scares him, but he's too good of a fighter to keep him out of it. If he would just stand still for a moment, maybe I could convince him to take up the position!"
Ananias nodded his head understandingly. "Sorry," he replied dully. "I've been sitting here for a while now, but I haven't seen him either."
Chrom frowned. "That's what I was afraid of." He let out a weary sigh. "Well, if you see him, tell him to come and meet me as soon as possible, okay? If we don't find him soon, we'll be forced to change our entire strategy for the next battle!"
Ananias nodded dutifully. "Sure, I'll keep an eye out for him."
Chrom smiled. "Thank you. You're always such a big help."
"I try to be," Ananias said, as Chrom made his way back to his tent. Once Chrom was gone, Ananias stood up to let Yarne out of his hiding place.
"Gah!" Yarne cried as he jumped up and wiped a lather of sweat off of his brow. "Man, it was stuffy in there!"
"Sorry, about that."
"Heh, are you kidding me?" Yarne said incredulously. "If it wasn't for you, Chrom would've caught me and forced me to be in the front lines on our next battle! So what if it was a bit stuffy in there? I just successfully got myself out of front line duty!"
"Yeah, but," Ananias frowned, "you heard what he said, right? Are you really going to keep staying away from the position after hearing all of that?"
Yarne's ears drooped as he looked down at the ground. "I-It's not like I don't want to help!" he insisted. "But as the last remaining Taguel, I've just got to take safety precautions! And the front lines are definitely not a part of those precautions! And besides," he added softly, "it's probably super scary up there."
Ananias let out an exasperated sigh. "Well, he's not exactly going to stop just because he couldn't get you to be at the front lines once, you know? What are you going to do about this?"
Yarne shrugged. "I don't know," he answered truthfully. "I just figured I'd keep running and hiding until he finally gives up and leaves me alone."
"You do realize this is Chrom who we're talking about here, right?" Ananias pointed out.
Yarne sighed. "I know, but what else am I supposed to do? Ask not to?"
"…Well, it's a start."
Yarne grumbled anxiously for a bit before giving Ananias a relenting pout. "Fine. I'll go see if that'll work."
"Good luck with that," Ananias monotonously encouraged as Yarne dragged his way back to Chrom.
