Chapter 10: "A breakthrough?"
A/N: Yay, finally I'm back like I promised you although it took longer than anticipated. The thing is that I couldn't come up with the right dialogue later that chapter. Now it's done. I'd like it if you could PM me if you have suggestions for improvement but no story related just for style. And if you have more general things to say you can also PM me or leave a review.
Rocky's POV:
I remember Skye talking about a scream and that it might be from Sweetie. I didn't hear anything for I was on the phone to make an appointment between my sis and Sweetie. We just ended our talk the moment Skye entered my puphouse. I can't tell whether she said anything else for I was on my way to help Sweetie if help would be required.
"But remember, if there is anything I can do for you don't hesitate to ask." "We will, Ryder!" is all I could hear when I arrived there. I chuckled. If I knew what happened back then I wouldn't have thought it to be cute. Up to this point neither one of them noticed me so I decided to stay hidden.
"So, I guess we're up to a new start?" "Guess so. And thanks for the cover. I really owe you one." "Don't worry. After all, I don't try to get someone into trouble. At least not anymore." Hearing this I knew we could trust her, secrets or not. That is when I noticed that there was Chase sneaking up on them. 'Again? Really, Chase? Why can't you just do us all a favor and leave her alone?' To protect her I decided to 'turn up'.
"Hey, you two. Are you finished talking so we could play a little game? Of course nothing to physical since Sweetie's injured. Marshall would kill me if I would suggest something like playing 'Tag' right now. But a little board game or something like this couldn't hurt, right?" I asked them hoping that I could distract them from the threat of being overheard by Chase.
"Sorry, Rocky. But I have to go back to Jake's Mountain and back to Jake. I should've gone since after breakfast but this talk was something I had to have first. Bye, guys" "For your information I am not a guy" Sweetie said with a straight face. "I didn't mean it like that. It's … it's just a figure of speech thing." This moment Sweetie lay on the floor laughing with her legs kicking the air. Everest on the other paw had a puzzled look on her face. "Well,I gotta go then." she said and with that she left.
"So … What were you two talking about?" I asked. "Oh, that was nothing, really. Just a stupid mistake she made and which she kind of apologized for. That's all." "If you say so. But we still can play a game if you want to." "Sure, why not. But what game do you want to play since, like you said yourself, I can't play games which involves running around to much as of lately." "I know. I have a couple of board games in my truck. Do you want to come and look for one you might enjoy?" 'I hope she says yes. Chase is too close to us right now. If he finds out something suspicious, if it's in his mind or not, he might do something we all could regret later on.' "I don't know. Following someone into the back of a dark truck? Sounds kind of suspicious to me."
"What? I thought we were friends? Why do you think this low of me all of a sudden?" The moment I asked that I realized that I fell for one of her jokes like Everest did before. "Hey, that's not funny." I said while grinning. I couldn't help it. 'It's just like they told me back in the old days. If you really want to become someone's friend you have to share similarities to bond over. Seems Sweetie and me share the same sense of humor' I thought. Then we left for my puphouse to play some games (and to get her as far away as possible from Chase).
Marshall's POV:
Everest came to me before she left for Jake's Mountain. Sure, she wanted to get home and I couldn't blame her for it. But I had hoped she would have stayed a bit longer to become friends with Sweetie, too. For I sure like both of them and I would have liked it if we could play some games together in the times coming. But taking small steps is a way too, I guess. Heading over to Sweetie's puphouse I noticed that she wasn't there. 'Where could she be. She has to take it slow for a few days and she knows it.'
Searching for her to talk to her for a bit I ran into Chase. "Woah, watch where you're going, Marshall." "Sorry, I didn't notice you. By the way, did you see where Sweetie went? I need to do a first check-up on her injury but I can't seem to find her." I knew by the look on Chase' face that I said something wrong the moment I said it. "No, and I don't really want to. And you shouldn't trust her this much either. Sure, she did a good performance in the Winter Wonder Show but we don't really know why. And even you have to admit that she has quite a record with her schemes." "True, but this is different. She's hurt both physically and mentally and your trick didn't help either. If you still insist on trying to keep her away from everyone I have to decline our friendship and in addition our pact from when we were younger. Please don't let us get there." "Ugh, fine. Have it your way. But don't say I didn't tell you. As far as I am concerned Sweetie isn't part of our family here and she'll never be."
'Does he really think she is doing this for one of her schemes? I can't believe it. I think there is more to it than I can see right now. Maybe I talk to Ryder about it. But first things first. Where could she be?'
A/N: Phew, done. Sorry for this short chapter but there was nothing I wanted to add here. Guess you all figured out I don't like Chase that much? The action is continuing in the next chapter. Besides, I have seen the movie and I have to say I like how they put in the idea of merchandising as the way of paying for all this stuff. See you guys next chapter which will be uploaded in the near future.
