"Hey," Ananias said, smiling as he spotted his daughter enter the mess hall and walk towards him, "there's my little girl."

Lana gave her father a funny look as she rolled her eyes and shook her head. "Really, dad? 'Little girl'?" She indicated towards her fully grown and matured body. "Do I look like someone who can get away with being called 'little girl' anymore?"

"No," Ananias admitted, "but you'll always be my little girl to me, so you're just going to have to deal with it." He smiled cheekily at her. "Sorry."

Lana chuckled. It was rare for her father to get cute like this, but whenever he did, it always seemed to be whenever he was around either her or her mother, which neither truly minded. In fact, they loved it. It admittedly felt great to know that her ever stone-faced father would only ever go out of his way to soften up for his family, even if she knew that he never truly meant to look it in the first place. It was as if she and her mother had something that no one else could truly have, and they appreciated and loved him for it. "I know." She gave her father a peck on the cheek before taking the seat opposite to him. "I was only teasing."

Ananias took another bite of his food before asking, "So, how has it been for you so far? Moving over here and all?"

Lana intertwined her fingers together and used them to stretch out her back for a bit. "Pretty good." She noticed a familiar face over her father's shoulder, who happened to notice her entering the mess hall as well, and gave him a friendly wave and wink. "Everyone here has been really nice."

Ananias nodded approvingly. "That's good to hear. So, what do you say about training with your old man for a bit after breakfast? It'll be just like old times, right?" It was then that he noticed that Lana wasn't really paying that much attention to what he was saying. Ananias cocked an eyebrow at this. "Um, Lana? Lana? Are you listening to me?" It was then that he noticed that Lana was paying more attention to whatever was behind him instead of her own father, causing him to slowly turn around and spot the soldier who she was currently flirting with, causing the two of them to noticeably flinch once they realized that they had been caught and awkwardly pretend that it had never happened. Ananias promptly gasped as he turned back to his own embarrassed daughter. "Lana, were you just flirting with that guy?! In front of your own father?!"

"Maybe," Lana awkwardly admitted, trying her best to casually cover her embarrassment with her hand. "S-So what? I can't flirt with guys anymore?"

"I… well… no, of course you can!" Ananias answered. "It's just that, you've barely lived here!" He pointed back at the soldier whom Lana had just flirted with. "Do you even know who that guy is?"

"Of course I do, dad!" Lana retorted, crossing her arms irritably and averting her eyes to the side as she did. "He's really nice!"

Ananias' eyes practically bulged. "Nice?!" he hissed. "That's the best you can say about him?! That he's nice?!"

"What's so bad about being nice?"

"There's nothing wrong with being nice! But being nice should be, like, a given! Are you seriously telling me that you know nothing else about that guy other than the fact that he can be nice?"

Lana let out an exasperated sigh. "Of course not, dad!" She then quickly muttered, "That's what dating is for."

"Dating?!" Ananias quietly exclaimed. "You've been here for as short a time as you have and you've already started dating?!"

"Well if I'm going to living here from now on, then yeah, it was either now or never, right?"

"Why 'now or never' and not 'sooner or later'? Because wouldn't later be the more responsible thing to do? You know, at least until you've become more acclimated with living here first?"

"Oh, come on, dad," Lana groaned. "It's not that different here than it was back at our old place! And I'm already in good terms with almost everyone here, so why not get started with dating?"

"B-Because," Ananias stammered, "dating isn't the only way to get to know people! Y-Your mother and I are proof of that!"

Lana gave her father a sympathetic look. "Dad, I love you and mom and all, and I think that the way you and mom met is seriously romantic, but," she shook her head, "you have to admit that the way you and mom got together isn't exactly normal."

"What's not normal about hanging out with each other and learning enough about each other until we realized that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together?" Ananias asked.

"Nothing!" Lana calmly argued. "But the way you and mom did it, it sort of seemed like you two just naturally fell for each other, which is really sweet and all, but most normal people actually have to go out of their way and start dating to get even close to what you and mom had, you know?"

Ananias shook his head. "No, no I don't." When he saw his daughter roll her eyes in exasperation at him, he quickly added, "Look, this may be hard for you to believe, but every single one of your fathers' friends found love the same way your father did! None of us had to do any of this… this 'dating' stuff!"

"Yeah, well, no offense, dad, but," Lana quickly looked around for a bit before whispering, "you and most of your friends lived most of your lives in an apocalyptic future, and when you guys finally escaped that apocalyptic future, you all joined the army and fought in a great, big war, and after that, some of you joined a SECOND army and got involved in ANOTHER great, big war! Dad, you have to admit, that's NOT normal! That's not the life you and mom went out of your way to give me! Compared to you, I'm the one who honestly has the most normal upbringing, and you have to trust me when I say that normal people have to go out of their way on dates to get to romantically know each other!"

"Y-Yeah, well, m-maybe, but…," Ananias stammered, desperate to make another, more sound point in order to end the discussion with.

"Dad," Lana gently placed her hand on top of her father's and looked reassuringly into her father's eyes, "don't worry. Despite what you call me, I'm a big girl now. I promise, I'll keep an eye out if my date tries anything with me, okay?"

"B-But…."

"Don't worry," Lana said reassuringly. "You and mom did a great job with teaching me just what to do in situations like that. If he tries anything, then I'll dump him harder than he's ever been dumped before." She gave her father a confidently playful wink. "Both physically and figuratively."

Ananias looked between her daughter and the soldier for a moment and looked deep into Lana's pleading eyes before letting out a relenting sigh and muttering, "Fine. You're right. You're a big girl now and you should be able to make your own decisions. You can go on your date. And all future dates, for that matter."

Lana smiled before making her way to her father's side, hugging him, and giving him a small peck on the cheek. "Thanks, dad, you're the best."

"Yeah, yeah," Ananias said, giving his daughter a kiss on the cheek of his own. "We both know that I spoil the heck out of you."

Lana shook her head. "I wouldn't go that far." She then looked over at where they were serving breakfast and said, "Well, I'd better go get my food now. I've got a busy day ahead of me." She waved at her dad as she went to fetch her food. "See you later, yeah?"

Her father slowly waved back. "Yeah." Once she was out of earshot, he let out a disappointed sigh and muttered, "Is there honestly nothing that we have in common with each other at this point?" He then looked back at the soldier his daughter was apparently currently dating and made a very obvious signal that if he did anything to his daughter, he would have Ananias to answer to, before getting back to eating his food, having received a great deal of pleasure from witnessing the soldier sweat a little and he swallow down a nervous lump in his throat.
