"Lana!" Ananias called, lightly jogging towards his beautiful daughter once he had gotten her attention.
Said daughter smiled at him and said, "Hey, dad? What's up?"
Her father returned her smile with a smile of his own. "Nothing much, really. I just haven't seen my favorite girl in the world for a while, is all. Or am I not allowed to ask someone how their day went?"
"No," Lana answered, "but come on." She smirked. "I'm your 'favorite girl'? Really?"
Ananias' eyes widened in surprise. "You're my daughter," he stated. "Is that really that much of a surprise?"
"No," Lana admitted, "but if I'm your favorite girl, then what exactly does that make mom?"
"Ah," Ananias said, realizing where Lana was getting at. "She's my favorite woman in the world. Big difference." He then clapped his hands and looked at his daughter expectantly. "So, are you going to tell me how your day went, or…?"
Lana chuckled before holding up a small, hand size sack filled with gold to show her father. "Aunt Anna came by today. Said that she wanted to visit her niece and teach her a thing or two about the merchant life." She then gave her father a confident wink. "And let's just say that I'm a pretty fast learner."
Ananias' eyes widened in surprise. "Really?"
Lana nodded. "Uh-huh. We made a lot of money." She threw her sack of gold into the air and caught it as it went down. "Of course, she kept most of the gold. It being her shop we were doing business at and all. But she was feeling generous enough to give me a small piece of the earnings." Lana opened the sack by untying the rope that was keeping it closed and showed the contents inside to her dad as she smiled proudly. "I mean, just look at it all!"
Ananias took the sack of gold out of his daughter's hands and took a moment to count how much gold the sack was apparently carrying, his eyes widening in awe upon realizing that it was much more than the one would've assumed the sack was capable of carrying. "Wow," he murmured. "That is a lot of gold."
"I know, right?" Lana said. "Aunt Anna said that I was a complete natural! She even said that she'd spread the word out to the other Annas so that they could come over and teach me the more advanced stuff later on down the road!"
Ananias let out an impressive, though somewhat unenthusiastic, whistle. "The more advanced stuff, huh?" He closed his daughters sack and handed it back to her, his face falling a bit upon hearing about his daughter's merchant-centric achievements. "Man, even I never got that far."
"Yeah, that's what Aunt Anna said," Lana replied. She then let out a small, but excited squeal. "I wonder what it's going to be!"
"Well, for a natural merchant like you, it probably won't be so bad," Ananias said softly.
"You really think so?" Lana asked hopefully.
Ananias forced a smile and nodded his head. "Yeah." He fixed her bangs for a bit before adding, "You've always been so talented. I'm sure you'll be able to pick all of it up in no time."
Lana let out a sigh of relief before giving her dad a grateful and earnest hug. "Aw, thanks dad." She then proceeded to let him go and give him a determined nod. "I'll make sure to make you proud."
Ananias responded by placing his hands to his side and shaking his head. "You've already have. Make me any prouder and I'll start getting a big head about it."
Lana giggled. "Okay then. I'll just make sure you're only prouder by a little bit then." She then began to make her way back to her quarters. "Well, I'd better get back to my room now. Get a good night's sleep before tomorrow's lesson, right?"
Ananias nodded. "Yeah." He then watched her begin to make her way back before letting out a surprised gasp upon realizing that she had neglected to mention a certain topic. "Oh!" he cried. "Wait a minute!"
Lana stopped where she was and gave her father a questionable look. "Hmm?" she asked, tilting her head curiously to the side as she did.
"How was your date?" Ananias asked. "With that guy we were talking about last time?"
Lana's eyes widened in surprise. "Oh, him?" She waved her dad off. "It just wasn't working out."
It was now Ananias' turn to have his eyes widen in surprise. "You figured all of that out in one date?" he asked incredulously.
Lana simply shrugged. "Well, yeah, I mean, that's what dating is for, you know? We just never clicked and we decided to just end things there. Simple stuff, dad."
Ananias nodded his head and shrugged. "I guess." He scratched the side of his face awkwardly. "Not that I'd know," he muttered under his breath.
"And I've got another date tomorrow anyway, so it wasn't like I was betting all of my money on him anyway," Lana nonchalantly added.
Ananias' eyes widened in shock. "Wait, what?! Another date?! Already?!"
Lana nonchalantly shrugged in response. "That's how dating works, dad. Sometimes, you've got to do a lot of them with lots of different people to find out what you want." She then waved him goodbye. "Well, see you around, dad!"
As Lana finally resumed making her merry way back towards her sleeping quarters, Ananias watched on as his daughter walked away before hanging his head and murmuring, "Well, I guess that makes it official. Dates, advanced merchant lessons, gender," he shook his head and let out a disappointed sigh, "we really have nothing in common, do we?"
