"Dad?" Lana softly asked as she slowly opened the door to her parents' quarters, knowing full well that her dad was in there. "Can we talk for a moment?"

Ananias looked up from the book he was reading and let out a surprised gasp before nodding his head and setting the book down. "Um, yeah, sure. Why? What is it? Did something happen?"

"Yeah, you could say that," Lana answered. She took a seat next to her father and took a deep breath before saying, "Mom says that you've been feeling… a little left out lately."

Ananias' eyes widened in surprise upon hearing this. "O-Oh," he awkwardly scratched the back of his neck, "okay."

"And she says that the reason you've been feeling like that is because I may be spending a little bit too much time going on dates and not enough time with you." Lana looked at her father questionably. "Is that true?"

"W-What?" Ananias said half incredulously. "N-No, of course not!" he said, waving his hands and shaking his head to further prove his point. "You're perfectly allowed to do whatever you want with your time with anyone you want to spend your time with. I'd never have a problem with that!"

Lana frowned and raised an incredulous eyebrow at him. "Dad…."

"Okay, well, maybe I had a problem with it at first -"

Lana rolled her eyes. "Dad…."

"O-Okay, so maybe I still might have a little problem with it!" Ananias reluctantly admitted. "But what self-respecting father wouldn't? And besides, I thought that we've already been over this! Why are we bringing it up again?"

"Because I'm not blind and mom isn't a liar," Lana argued firmly. "Now it's obvious that you've been feeling down lately and, according to mom, it might have something to do with my dating, so either you fess up or you tell me what's really going on between us, because dad, let's be honest, neither one of us has the time for this sort of thing."

Ananias sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose at his daughter's ultimatum. "Well, your mother's not technically wrong, but, at the same time, she's not technically right either."

Lana groaned. "Oh, come on, dad, give me specifics!"

"I… I just don't feel like we can relate with each other, okay?!" Ananias cried, buckling down at the pressure his daughter was putting him under.

Lana's eyes narrowed curiously at this. "What?"

"I mean, you with the dating, the learning all of the things that I was never able to learn, the… being a girl," Ananias hastily and awkwardly explained, "I don't have anything to do with that kind of stuff! And nowadays, as a father, I'm supposed to be able to help guide you through all of that?" He shook his head in dismay. "I can't do that! I can barely comprehend most of it!"

Lana eyed her father tenderly. "Dad…."

Ananias hung his head at how pathetic of a father he admittedly was. "It would benefit you a lot more if I just stayed out of it all, you know?"

"So, that's your solution?" Lana gently asked. "To stay out of my life whenever I have a problem?"

"It's not just that!" Ananias insisted. "It's also the fact that we've got almost nothing in common! Like, how can we possibly spend time with one another if the two of us are so different?"

"I don't know, by being my dad?!" Lana countered. "Like, do you realize just how many people don't have anything in common with their kids, and they still force them to spend time with them?" When Ananias averted his head away in shame, Lana crossed her arms and let out an exasperated sigh. "Honestly, dad, this isn't some kind of special problem we have going on here! It's normal for a father and daughter to be completely different from one another!"

"Well, excuse me for being born in a family where the entire lineage has been the exact antithesis of that!" Ananias cried.

"Dad, I love our family, but our family is the exact opposite of normal!"

"Yeah, so that means our problems are far from normal too!"

"Oh my gosh!" Lana groaned. "No! Our family may not be normal, but our problems are!"

"You mean like whether to keep one's daughter in another world altogether for her own protection?!"

"That's an exception! And besides, that's just another form of a parent being concerned for their child's safety! That's all this is, dad! All of our problems are just more normal problems wrapped in a different looking bow! There's nothing complicated about this!" When her dad didn't say anything back, she added, "And even if things were, so what?" She placed a hand gently onto her dad's chest. "You're my dad, and I love you! Who cares if we have nothing in common? Who cares if you can't ever truly help me whenever I've got a problem? So what? You and mom kept me safe, didn't you? You and mom both went out of your way to give me love and attention, didn't you? You and mom are the reason for why I'm even here to begin with, aren't you?"

"W-Well, yeah, but -"

"But nothing!" Lana cried, close to the point of tears. "What more can we possibly need for you to realize that you being my dad is enough?" It was at this point that tears began to run down her face.

"Oh, oh gods," Ananias muttered, quickly wrapping his arms gently around his quietly sobbing daughter. "Lana, I am so sorry."

"You don't need to be sorry," Lana said in between sobs. "You don't need to be anything. All you need to do is be my father. And… and…," she began to wipe away her tears with her palm, "if it's a time issue, then I could just cancel a few of my dates, or try to teach you all of the stuff that our aunts taught me, or… or…."

"Shh," Ananias whispered, giving his daughter a soothing rub on her back in an attempt to calm her down. "Calm down. It's alright. It's okay. You don't have to do any of that." He then placed his hands onto her shoulders and looked into her eyes. "If all I need is to be your father, then all you'll ever need is to be my daughter."

Lana sniffled a bit before asking, "Are… are you sure?"

Ananias nodded. "Yeah. I'm sure. After all, I want to spend time with my daughter, not a teacher or a charity worker, you know?" He gave her a small smile. "You'll do just fine. We'll just have to squeeze some father-daughter time into whatever's left of ours schedules is all. Deal?"

Lana smiled and nodded. "Deal!"
