"Oh, Ananias!" Charlotte cried, running up to him before giving said man a playful wink. "We so have to stop meeting up like this!"

Ananias let out an embarrassed chuckle as he scratched rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah, it's always been you approaching me and not the other way around, hasn't it? Sorry. After being so nice to me, I should probably try returning the favor every once and a while, huh?"

Charlotte giggled. "While that certainly would be nice, I would completely understand it if you didn't. You're always so preoccupied, it's hard to steal you for myself every once and a while."

Ananias lightly blushed and averted his eyes away from Charlotte's intent gaze. "Well, that's a... strange way of putting it."

Realizing that that may have been a poor choice of words on her part, Charlotte quickly panicked a bit and said, "I-It's not like I'm planning anything nefarious against you or anything! It's just a silly little phrase!"

Ananias blinked in confusion for a bit before nodding and saying, "Yeah, I know, I was just thinking out loud and being weird again is all."

Charlotte's eyes widened as she gritted her teeth upon realizing just how unnecessary and self-defeating her overreaction had been. "A-And I, of course, know that you know!" She let out a slightly nervous laugh. "I guess you can say I was being just as weird as you were at that moment!"

Ananias simply gave her a funny look before shrugging his shoulders and saying, "Okay." He then reached into his bag and pulled out Charlotte's lunchbox. "Here's your lunchbox back."

"Oh!" Charlotte cried as she clapped her hands in delight. "Thank you, sweetie! Did you like the lunch I made for you?"

Ananias nodded. "Yeah, it was pretty good."

Charlotte's face fell a bit as she blinked in surprise. "'Pretty good'?" she repeated incredulously.

"Ah," Ananias muttered, pinching the bridge of his nose as he realized just how insensitive he was sounding, "sorry, very good. It was very good."

Charlotte hesitated for a moment before smiling warmly at him. "I'm glad." She then looked at him sheepishly. "You know, I was actually kind of worried."

Ananias' eyes widened in surprise. "Hmm? About what?"

"About making a lunch that you would actually like, silly," Charlotte answered. "After all, someone of your status must have tasted the most delicate of cuisines. Probably food that a simple girl like me couldn't possibly even begin to imagine."

Ananias thought Charlotte's statement over for a bit before shrugging his shoulders uncertainly and saying, "I mean, I guess I kind of have. I DO have a few aunts who run their own restaurants."

Charlotte frowned. "Um, you mean, own a few master chefs, right?"

Ananias scratched the back of his head. "Um, yeah, that too. Sort of. Kind of."

"Well, obviously they get paid, right? So perhaps 'owning' was a bit too strong of a word."

Ananias nodded slowly. "Yeah, probably."

"Well, like I was saying, I was worried that my humble dishes wouldn't be able to satisfy your rich and expensive tastes," Charlotte further explained, ignoring the strange look Ananias was giving her as she did. "But being able to meet such high expectations really makes me glad." She gently placed a hand through Ananias' hair and ruffled it affectionately. "After all, someone who works so hard and has stayed so humble despite their extremely rich upbringing deserves nothing but the very best."

"Um, yeah," Ananias said, using his hand to gently remove Charlotte's from out of his hair. "And if we ever meet a guy like that, we'd all probably feel the same way."

Charlotte giggled. "And a jokester too! My, my, Ananias! You really are the entire package, aren't you?"

"W-Wait, so the person you were talking about just now... was me?!"

Charlotte innocently tipped her head to the side. "Yes, I would've thought that that was obvious."

Realizing somewhat what was going on, Ananias shook his head, and said, "Charlotte, I'm sorry, but I think that there's been a misunderstanding."

An annoyed look appeared across Charlotte's face. "Oh please, we've been through this! Just take other people's compliments about you with a smile on your face and be done with it!"

Ananias shook his head. "No, this isn't about that! It's about you apparently thinking that I'm rich!"

Charlotte frowned. "W-What about that?"

"Charlotte, I don't know how to tell you this, but... I'm not rich. If anything, I'm pretty broke."

Charlotte blinked a few times in both shock and confusion. "W-What?"

Ananias paused for a moment, before clarifying, "I am dirt poor." When Charlotte didn't immediately respond back, he sheepishly added, "I'm glad that you think I am though. That's a pretty nice compliment all things considered."

"B-B-But," Charlotte stammered, "you said that you were a part of a big merchant family, and that they all run successful businesses and are obsessed with money."

"Y-Yeah, I did."

"W-Well, didn't all of you amass, like, some really big fortune because of it or something? Like, you all just deposit some of your earnings into a big family bank and it just grew larger and larger over the years?"

Ananias thought it over for a bit, before carefully answering, "We sort of have something like that, but we would only ever break all that money out for an emergency. I mean, it's not like I can just take out of it any time I want, you know? My family's pretty big on earning your own keep. We help each other out, because we're family and all that, but still..."

Charlotte clenched her fists and gritted her teeth as she visibly began to shake. "So you're telling me... that you don't have a piece of gold in your name?"

"Well, I mean, I've got some gold, but usually only enough to last me a couple of days -"

"RAAAAAH!" Charlotte screamed, angrily punching her fist into a nearby wall as she did.

Ananias' eyes widened in both surprise and horror. "Did... did you just punch a hole into that wall?!"

"Yeah?! Well what's it to you?!" Charlotte then began to stomp away. "And next time, make your own dang lunch, you hobo!"

"Hobo?!" Ananias repeated incredulously, too flabbergasted and fearful of what he had just seen to follow her, simply looking back to the hole in the wall instead. "What... what just happened?!"
