"Hey, Effie," Ananias greeted as he nonchalantly approached her.

Effie let out a good natured, though still somewhat strained, laugh. "Hey there, Ananias."

He looked over what she was doing, folded his arms, and asked, "Training hard today, aren't you?"

She let out a strained grunt as she slowly began to squat in place while holding a gigantic boulder over her head. "Sure am! We retainers gotta train hard, you know?"

Ananias nodded. "Well, yeah, but even if it's you, I'm still a bit worried about that boulder that you're carrying over your head. I mean, if you want to train with it, fine, but shouldn't someone be spotting you in case you accidentally drop that on yourself, or if, you know, you accidentally drop that on your head?"

Effie slowly stood up before thinking Ananias' point over. "Huh, yeah, I guess that would be the responsible thing to do, wouldn't it?" She smiled and let out a sheepishly embarrassed chuckle. "Sorry, my bad." She then slowly and carefully let the boulder down, wiped the sweat off her brow with the back of her arm, turned towards Ananias, and asked, "So, you ready?"

Ananias' eyes widened in surprise. "Um... for what?"

Effie nodded towards the boulder and answered, "For spotting me." She tilted her head to the side innocently and asked, "Isn't that why you brought it up?"

"O-Oh no!" Ananias said, shaking his head, lowering his head, and waving his hands as he took a step back. "I... I wasn't volunteering! I was just, you know, pointing it out is all."

"Oh," Effie said with a nod, "okay." She then turned back to the boulder on the floor and gave it a puzzled frown. "Huh, now that I think about it, who WOULD I get to spot me? I mean, I want to keep training like this, anything to make me a better retainer for Lady Elise, but, well, um..."

"We've got no one else here who could possibly do it, huh?" Ananias finished.

Effie scratched the back of her head as she let out an embarrassed laugh. "Yeah. I mean, I don't want to brag, but I don't exactly see anyone else around here lifting as much weight as I do, you know?"

Ananias nodded. "Yeah." He folded his arms and let out an heavy sigh. "That's certainly a big problem that you've got there."

Effie sadly nodded. "And I couldn't possibly keep doing all of these exercises now that I know that I could get hurt from them! What help to Lady Elise would I be if I'm already injured before going into battle?"

Ananias nodded. "Yeah, and we can't exactly ask you to stop, can we?" The two of them pondered over it for a moment before Ananias sighed and asked, "Is there really no one else we can think of who can do it?"

Effie shrugged. "Seems like."

Ananias uneasily ran his hands through his hair for a bit before letting out a small, relenting groan, and saying, "Fine. How about I spot you then?"

Effie raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Really? Are you sure?"

Ananias shrugged. "Well, you were perfectly willing to let me before, right? So you must think that I've got what it takes, right?"

"Y-Yeah," Effie admitted, "but to be completely honest, I wasn't exactly thinking about it too much back then, and now that I am..." She gave him an uneasy and concerned grimace. "Sorry, but... how much do you lift?"

"W-Well, I mean, it's not really about normal lifting so much as a temporary burst of strength, right?" Ananias tried to reason. "So even if I can't lift your usual amount of weight normally, I could still probably do it, right?"

"Now THAT doesn't sound safe," Effie pointed out. She then glanced back at the boulder and suggested, "Alright then, how about we do this: I'll let you be my spotter, but only if you can prove that you can lift this boulder here." She gave the boulder a few pats. "That sound fair?"

Ananias nodded. "Sure." He then made his way towards the boulder, dusted and readied his hands, wrapped his arms around the boulder as best he could, bent his knees, and muttered, "Okay... here... we... GO!" He then heaved out a heavy groan as she tried with all of his might to lift the boulder. "Aghhhhhhhhhh!"

Effie watched him for a bit before asking, "Um, you need some help with that, or...?"

Ananias quickly shook his head. "No! I got this! Just got to wait for the adrenaline to kick in and then...," much to both of their amazement, Ananias had actually managed to lift the boulder off of the ground, "it'll be a piece of cake!"

Effie's eyes widened in surprised, evidently impressed with Ananias' sudden display of strength. "Wow! You actually managed to do it!" She smiled at him. "I'm impressed. I honestly didn't think that you had it in you!"

"Y-Yeah," Ananias heaved. "Neither did... I, ugh!" And with that, Ananias had fallen back and was now being crushed by the very boulder that he had just managed to lift off of the ground.

Effie gasped. "Oh, gods! Ananias! Are you alright?!"

"H-Help... me...," Ananias managed to croak.

Effie immediately and effortlessly threw the boulder off of him and began carrying him towards the infirmary. "Medic! Medic!"
