"SAPPHIRE RICHARD VIOLET!"

Saph pulled his coat away from her and raised his hands up slightly.

"H-H-Hey Weiss! How are you doing old chum?" Saph said nervously.

Standing before him, wearing a white combat dress, was Weiss Schnee. Heiress of the Schnee dust company, and childhood friend of Sapphire Violet. However, their friendship was on hold as she looked at Saph with a fury unrivaled.

She grabbed the six foot tall young man by the collar and pulled him down to look in her eyes.

"Three years." She said as her eyes were covered in shadows. "You disappear for three years. AND THE FIRST THING YOU SAY IS 'HEY'?" She screamed in his face.

Saph chuckled and tried to pull himself away from her. "Well, you know how it is. People have things to do and things to see. I just so happened to have to go and see Vale, and then Beacon, for the next four years." Saph joked, trying to get out of this situation.

Weiss sighed and let him go, making the young man fall on his ass. "Marine was the only person in all of Atlas who knew where you went. You didn't tell me, Winter, or those hooligans you hung out with when you were doing combat training." Weiss explained as she stepped past Saph.

"Hey, those hooligans were with me in a band. The only hooligan I know runs a bar and is my roommate. … Oh shit." Saph realized what he said too late, as Weiss turned with an icy glare.

"You left Atlas, left me all alone, left your brother to carry the weight of that house… ALL BECAUSE YOU WENT TO GO LIVE WITH THAT DAMN MAROON?!?" Weiss shouted. In Saph's eyes Weiss had grown and towered over him at that moment.

"yes?"

Weiss was at a loss for words. She just turned around and walked away, still fuming.

Saph pitied whoever she ran into next. Because they were going to be hit with some true anger.

He sighed and laid on the ground. "Welcome to Beacon." He said to himself and closed his eyes.

A few minutes later he felt something nudge his ribs. He opened his eyes to see a familiar head of blonde hair.

"Please don't tell me your back for round two." Saph said, exhausted as he saw a hand extend out to him.

"Nah. Just here to help a fellow student." She said holding the hand out to him.

Looking at the hand, Saph sighed and took it.

The blonde girl pulled him up off of the ground. Saph dusted himself off clearing any dirt that might have stuck to him.

"Thanks. I don't think I caught your name when you punched me through a wall." Saph said as he finished dusting himself.

"Yang Xiao-Long, soon to be huntress. I don't think I caught your name when you were beating me with that semblance of yours." Yang said, introducing herself.

"Sapphire Richard Violet, you can just call me Saph. I used to be the head of security for JR's." Saph said with some snark.

Yang chuckled. "Yeah sorry about that. Your boss wasn't giving me the answers I wanted and after the ball grip, I think he wanted to defend his pride. However, that fight against you made the whole night worth it. It might have been short, but I haven't fought anyone as strong as me in a while." Yang said excitedly.

Saph smirked and posed in a way that made his jacket flow. "I see you recognize my strength. I'd be happy to give you a second round, just after initiation." Saph said, with a random light shining down on him.

Yang looked around for where the light came from, however was cut short when they both heard an explosion.

Peering over in the direction where the explosion came from, Saph saw Weiss covered in soot yelling at someone else.

Saph sighed and decided not to get involved.

"Anyway, good to meet you when you aren't either flirting with me, or trying to beat me to death. But I gotta find out where the auditorium is." Saph said, waving goodbye to Yang and walking away.

She just shrugged and found her friends which she had been looking for prior to seeing Saph.

Saph ended up finding the Auditorium on his own and was quite early. Few people were inside, and the ones that were had been talking to each other.

Finding a good spot in the middle, Saph stood and waited as more students started to enter the auditorium.

Soon enough, every student was inside of the auditorium, following that, the stage lights flicked on and two people walked out.

One of them was a tall man, wearing mostly dark green clothing, graying hair and glasses over his amber eyes. The other was a woman with long blonde hair tied in a bun with green eyes and glasses, she wore a long sleeved white shirt with a black corset and a cape.

The man with the glasses walked up to a Microphone which was raised from a hole in the stage.

The gray haired man spoke into the microphone "I'll...keep this brief. You have traveled here today in search of knowledge, to hone your craft and acquire new skills. And when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But I look amongst you, and all I see is wasted energy, in need of purpose – direction. You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step." He finished. He locked eyes with Sapphire for a moment, and then walked away. The woman stepped up to the microphone.

"You will all gather into the ballroom for the night. Tomorrow Initiation begins, please be ready. You are dismissed." She finished and followed the gray haired man.

Later that night

Saph rolled out a sleeping bag. He had zoned out while listening to music and started thinking about when that man looked at him.

Saph felt his eyes burn, and not as in a sense of pain, but more like catching fire, as the man stared at him and time seemed to stop as a silent conversation was spoken.

"You really are here."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Prepare yourself Sapphire, that is all."

Time seemed to resume as the man walked away.

Saph couldn't get the thought out of his head as Devils Never Cry played in his headphones.

He was playing the music so loud he didn't hear the footsteps behind him as he finished setting up his sleeping bag.

Someone tapped his shoulder and Saph turned around.

There stood Yang and another girl, she was clearly younger than anyone else here judging by how he towered over the girl.

Everyone was in their sleeping wear, Saph included. The young man wore a pair of blue pajama pants and a gray tank top.

Yang pointed to her ears and Saph took off his headphones.

"Heya Saph." Yang said.

"Yo." Saph said as he paused his music.

"This is my little sister Ruby. She doesn't have many friends and I was wondering if you could be one of hers?" Yang asked as she grabbed Ruby by her shoulders and pushed her forward.

Ruby had to crane her neck up slightly to look Saph in the eyes.

"Uhh, sure I guess?" Saph said, confused. "But if she wanted to be my friend wouldn't she have come over on her own?"

Yang chuckled and punched Saph in the arm. "She does, she's just an introvert so she's not that outgoing." She said.

Saph nodded and held his hand out to Ruby. "Yo," Saph said. "Names Sapphire but you can call me Saph."

Ruby shook his hand. "My name's Ruby Rose. Nice to meet you."

"Likewise." Saph said with a grin.

"See Ruby! I told you he doesn't bite, dad's just full of it." Yang said. "Now, me and that pillow have a sleep date in five minutes and I think you do to Ruby. I'll see you around Saph!" Yang said, walking away with Ruby.

Saph just laughed at the two walking away as Yang made sure to put some extra umph into her hips. "That poor girl, and I thought Marine was pushy." Saph said as he put his headphones back on and lied down.

He set an alarm and instead of playing music, he instead played some ocean sounds to help him sleep.

Tomorrow was going to be a big day, so he needed concentration after all.
