"Ananias!" Corrin cried, briskly jogging towards the redheaded retainer until she finally managed to catch up with him. "Hey! I've been looking all over for you!"
"Lady Corrin," Ananias flatly but dutifully said. "What is it? Did you come out all the way here just to hear another story?"
"Actually," Corrin said, "I was thinking that it should be my turn to tell you a story."
Ananias raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Huh?"
Corrin nodded. "I figured that after all of the stories you've told me, it would only be fair if I told you a couple of stories in return."
Ananias blinked in confusion for a moment before nodding his head and saying, "Um, okay, but... what stories are you exactly going to tell? I mean, you said so yourself that you spent most of your life cooped up in an isolated castle. What stories could you possibly weave from that?"
"It's true, my childhood DID get pretty lonely at times," Corrin admitted, "but if I recall, wasn't it you last time who pointed out that I had a family that was absolutely crazy about me?"
Immediately realizing what the princess of Nohr was getting at, Ananias let out a small gasp of surprise before asking, "You're... going to tell me a bunch of fond family memories?"
"I know, I know," Corrin said, "its not nearly as exiting as traveling to new and exotic locations or escaping a tribe of angry natives, but I figured that since you've always wanted to know what it's like to be in a family like mine, I thought that it would, you know, even us out. And besides," she gave him a small smile, "you only know my family professionally. Believe me, the embarrassing things that I could tell you about them would blow your mind!"
Ananias frowned. "If that's the case, then maybe I should kindly decline your offer. It sounds like if any of them caught wind of what I know, I could be in some serious trouble."
"Aw, I'm sure no one in my family would punish you for knowing a little bit of personal information!" Corrin reassured. "And besides, you're... you! Who would you possibly go gossiping to? Especially when you work for them!"
"W-Well..."
"Okay, that's it! No more 'wells' of 'buts' about it! Sit down! This first story is going to really knock your socks off!"
"It just might knock my head off if we're not too careful," Ananias muttered.
"And then, believe it or not, Camilla actually slipped and got all of the dough and flour all over her!"
Ananias' eyes widened in surprise before he simply shook his head in disbelief and said, "No, you're lying. There's no way Lady Camilla could've done that. She's way too coordinated!"
"I know, right?!" Corrin exclaimed. "I wouldn't have believed it either if I had heard it either, but I swear to the gods, it happened! Right in front of my eyes too! And you should've seen the look on Camilla's face! I've never seen her so embarrassed in my life!"
"You know, it's probably because of this incident that she's the way she is today."
"You think?"
"I mean, neither of us would believe this incident otherwise, right?"
Corrin laughed and nodded. "You know, that's definitely a possibility. Camilla always did pride herself on being the 'caring big sister' and all that. I guess she must have thought that that little slip up ruined that image of her a little bit and she's never looked back since."
Ananias chuckled. "Yeah, if I were in her shoes, then I'd probably feel the exact same way. We've all got our pride, you know?"
Corrin giggled. "Yep. We sure do." She then gave Ananias an amused look. "And it seems to me that you being down in the dumps all the time isn't one of yours."
Ananias frowned. "Hmm?"
"You may not be the most emotive person in the world, but I know a smile when I see one! And you were smiling practically the entire time halfway through that little story of mine!"
"Er, well, I mean, I guess," Ananias begrudgingly admitted.
Corrin giggled. "Aw, come on! Don't let me noticing spoil your fun!"
"I-I'm not!" Ananias stubbornly insisted. "It's just... embarrassing is all, alright? I'm just not used to people noticing!"
"Well, it's a good thing I did," Corrin said, "because the fact that I did gives what I'm about to say a little bit more weight than if I didn't."
Ananias cocked an eyebrow in surprise. "Huh?"
"Ananias, I know that you feel like a waste of space, but... I personally can't imagine how anyone who's capable of smiling and being happy completely being that."
Ananias sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck and murmured, "Well, I mean, none of those are very productive..."
"I disagree," Corrin politely replied. "Everyone could always use one more smile, especially in times like this. And if you're capable of doing it, then I can't see how you could possibly be everyone else's dead weight. If anything, a smile lifts some of that dead weight off!"
"...You know, I know you're just trying to cheer me up, but I can't help but feel that it's kind of working. Your own smile and enthusiasm is... admittedly a bit contagious."
"See? Nothing but good can come from smiling! And if you've got it in you to smile, no matter how small that smile may be, I doubt anyone here would write you off as completely worthless!"
Ananias blushed and averted his eyes to the side. "You... you really mean that?"
"Of course I do!" Corrin firmly reassured. "And just look at you, grinning ear to ear like this! You should do it more often! Yours could be just as contagious if you'd just allow it to happen!"
"Humph. Well, I guess since it's you, I'll consider it."
Corrin chuckled. "That's great to hear."
