"Say hello to Ug's little friend!"

The caveman who archeologists have dubbed Ug was estimated to have lived around 25,000 B.C. Cave drawings point to him possibly spending his adult life as a hunter, using a giant bone club to kill prey, and possibly becoming the leader of a hunting party. Archeologists speculate that he was killed in a hunting excursion.

Ug's life as a ghost is less shrouded in mystery. Many archeologists have spotted him at their dig sites, smiling proudly as they attempted to decipher the daily lives of his contemporaries. Some say that watching these archeologists do their research inspired him to teach today's children about pre-history. To that end, he disguised himself as part of a traveling exhibition, absorbing modern-day pop culture as he went.

In 2018, Ug met Hellen Gravely, who told him that she needed his old hunting skills. She helped him slip away to the Last Resort and set him up on the ninth floor, which she called the Unnatural History Museum. Later, she explained that she and a friend were dealing with a persistent, green-clad foe and asked if Ug was interested in helping to set up a trap. Ug agreed, and in October 2019, he was tasked with guarding the portrait prison of a Toad retainer named Brad.

Ug gave Luigi a harrowing, protracted battle. First, he possessed a nearby T-Rex skeleton, leading to Gooigi offering himself as bait when Ug destroyed one of the fossilized eggs needed to subdue him. Second, he tore himself free of the T-Rex's stand and stormed after Luigi, swinging the skeleton's paws and tail at him and even swiping with his head for good measure. His rampage left wrecked displays in his wake, and Luigi used the wreckage to fight back, launching pieces of them into the T-Rex's ribcage until the entire skeleton fell apart. Finally, Ug emerged from the skeleton's remains, attacking with his trusty bone club. However, none of his strikes could keep Luigi down for long, and he was eventually sent into the Poltergust with an unwitting assist from his own club. Luigi was frightfully upset at Gooigi for putting himself in harm's way and needed some time to compose himself before freeing Brad. Gooigi, for his part, firmly declared his intent to protect his companion, whether Luigi liked it or not. Later, Luigi apologized for reacting so strongly.

After the adventure, Ug helped the other ghosts rebuild the hotel, Luigi bearing no ill will toward him over their previous interaction. When the hotel was completed, the twelfth floor became a natural history museum, where Ug finally got to fulfill his purpose of helping kids learn about prehistoric times by serving as a docent. This museum remains in business today, and Ug enjoys his new job more than ever.
