Eyes Like Yours
Disclaimer: Minekura owns all. I'm just abusing.
All it took was one rainy night, and the green eyes of a beautiful stranger to turn Sha Gojyo's world upside down. If anyone had ever told him that he would drag a stranger into his home, stuff his insides back in, and then spend the next three years living with said stranger, he would have laughed in their face.
Gojyo didn't do permanent. The quintessential bachelor; he was well known for his skill at cards and at picking up women, but definitely not keeping them. This was why the fact that he had spent three years living with the same person, and a man at that, caused a ripple of disbelief to flow through the town.
Women would follow him around in those early months, trying to catch a glimpse of the person who had taken their man from them. Men would complain that he no longer came to play cards, although secretly they were glad that they no longer lost all their money to him.
Gojyo never knew why he kept Hakkai around.
Even when that wasn't his name.
Even when he had no name.
When in Gojyo's head he had just been That Beautiful Stranger.
Something about the quiet man struck a chord with Gojyo. It was almost like he knew him; even though he was positive they had never before crossed paths. He would have remembered a man with eyes like that.
Eyes that were at the same time sad and dangerous. Gojyo was okay with that. He knew what sadness was, had felt its sharp teeth dig into him time and time again. And the danger just made things a little more interesting. Gojyo had always had a taste for danger. Living life on the edge proved to him that he was still alive.
So when Sanzo had come for Hakkai, when he had still been Cho Gonou, he had lied. He opened his mouth and flat out lied to a man of the cloth without even thinking twice about it first. He was not going to turn this man over, even if what the monk said he had done was true.
And when Sanzo had taken Hakkai by force and Gojyo had been told that Cho Gonou was dead, a part of him had also died inside.
Cutting off all his hair, the hair that had reminded his friend of the sins he had committed, he returned to his apartment alone. It had been several weeks before he had left his home for anything more than trips to the grocery store. And when Hakkai had shown up at his door, still alive, it had taken all his will power not to pass out.
This beautiful stranger, who had entered, left, then re-entered his life in the most unusual circumstances, whose eyes spoke of pain, and whose aura was filled with the promise of danger. How could he ever say no when he had fallen in love with this beautiful stranger…
