"You are the ocean's gray waves," Azura sang, before clicking the castanets in her hands.
"Well, well, well," Ananias said, earning him a surprised yelp. "Look who's actually using those instruments that I bought her. And after insisting that she wasn't going to use them either."
Azura gave him a knowing smirk. "Oh, hush you." She once again clicked the castanets in her hands, listening closely to the sound that they made as she did. "There's nothing wrong with trying them out every once and a while, is there?"
Ananias shook his head. "No, of course not. I'm just making fun. So what do you think? Do you like them?"
"These castanets?" Azura thought it over for a bit, before shrugging her shoulders and answering, "Honestly, I can see their appeal, but I'm afraid that they're not a good fit for the songs I sing. The same goes for the other instruments that you got me."
"Huh, so I guess that makes you a true-blue a cappella singer, doesn't it?"
Azura smiled comfortingly at him. "It seems like. Not that I don't appreciate the thought behind your presents though! I'm actually quite flattered that you went through all the trouble of getting them for me. I'm not used to receiving so many."
Ananias sighed. "Well, I guess that counts for something." He smiled. "It's always the thought that counts, just like how it's always the thought that counts behind your singing, isn't it?"
Azura giggled. "Exactly. I'm not just singing for myself, but for the hope of a better future. A future where everyone will be at peace with one another, despite all of our differences."
Ananias chuckled. "How idealistic of you."
Azura sheepishly hung her head. "Do you still find my dream a bit... unrealistic?"
Ananias nodded. "Yeah. I mean, people fight, you know? And sometimes those fights just get too big for either side to control."
Azura gave him a disappointed, but understanding nod. "I see."
"But," Ananias awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck, "eventually, for whatever reason, the fighting stops, and both sides make up in one way or another. So, I guess, peace always finds a way."
"Oh?" Azura quizzically frowned. "So you're saying... that you believe that peace... has already been achieved?
Ananias thought about it for a moment before simply and nonchalantly shrugging his shoulders and answering, "Well, yeah, I guess I am. I mean, sure, it would've been better if they hadn't fought at all, but... if something like that can happen, then maybe the fight wasn't such a big deal in the first place."
"But the lives that had been lost, and the lives of those left alive... what of them?"
Ananias hesitated for a moment before muttering, "Everybody dies. Eventually anyway. Surviving war, or any other tragedy, just means that you get to live a little bit longer, that's all. People don't die because they're weak or because they deserve it. They die because they were just unlucky enough to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. That's all."
Azura let out a surprised and hushed gasp. "Ananias..."
Ananias averted his eyes to the side and lightly blushed. "S-Sorry. That got... unnecessarily dark there for a moment."
Azura shook her head. "No, don't be. It just proves just how close we've become." She then bowed her head and murmured, "And besides, I'm not as optimistic as you may think."
"Hmm? Did you say something?"
Azura immediately shook her head and smiled. "Oh, nothing. Just that what you said just now is... oddly inspiring."
Ananias' eyes widened in surprise. "It was?"
Azura nodded. "Yes. Because when you think about it, if people simply died through no real fault of their own, then that just means that those who stay alive shouldn't feel too guilty over their friends' deaths and should just focus on living their lives to the fullest until it's eventually their time."
Ananias pondered over this for a moment before admitting, "Huh. Well, I guess that's one way to look at it. Though I got to admit, if that's really where that was going, then I'm pretty much one big hypocrite."
Azura gave him a small and reassuring smile. "I think we all are, to some extent."
Ananias shrugged. "Maybe." The two were silent for a moment before Ananias smiled appreciatively and said, "These talks really are nice. I'm glad that we do them."
Azura nodded. "Yes, they certainly put things into perspective, don't they? And it's quite nice to have such a quiet chat away from prying ears. It's relaxingly quiet."
"Humph, not too relaxing I hope. Did you hear about the rumors about us?"
Azura's eyes widened in surprise. "Rumors? What rumors?"
"Heh. Apparently, word of our little meetings and play dates has gotten out, and with how much more relaxed the two of us seem after having them, people have been thinking that we've been dating."
Azura fiercely blushed upon hearing this. "D-Dating?!"
"I know, right? I mean, if we were dating, then we'd just tell everyone, you know?"
"Um, not really!"
"Oh, you wouldn't tell them?" Ananias innocently asked.
"Of course not! Why would our dating life be any of their business?"
Ananias simply shrugged. "I don't know. I guess I just never saw it as that big of a deal."
"Well, it would be!" Azura insisted. "Especially considering the fact that," she bowed her head and averted her eyes before quietly saying, "I... I wouldn't mind if we... did."
Ananias' eyes widened in surprise. "Whoa! Wait, what?"
Azura blushed even harder and shook her head. "Oh, forget I said anything! You obviously don't feel the same way!"
"What? Of course I do!"
Azura let out a surprised gasp. "Do... do you really mean it?"
It was now Ananias' turn to blush and avert his eyes. "Well, I mean, why else would I go through all of the motions with you?"
"Huh? 'All of the motions'?"
"Y-You know! The private meetings! The apologizing! The presents! Heck, we were practically dating as it was!"
Azura blushed. "Y-Yes, I suppose you're right. So... do you want to... make it official then?"
"Why bother?" Ananias asked. "Like I said, we were already dating. Might as well just put a ring on your finger right now, right? Unless you're opposed to the idea."
Azura furiously shook her head. "N-No! Of course not!" She smiled at him. "Being married to you, nothing would make me happier!"
Ananias smiled back. "Heh. Then it's official."
Azura nodded. "Official official."
Ending: Ananias and Azura
Ananias continued with his humble life as a messenger almost immediately after the war had ended, his home being the only guaranteed place anyone looking for him could find him. There are few records of Azura beyond her marriage. She remains a historical mystery.
Author's Note #1: The next supports after Azura will be Flora, followed by Odin, Laslow, Rinkah, Arthur, Silas, Leo, Keaton, and Subaki. Kanna's supports will be like Ophelia's and Soleil's, with Kanna being Odin, Laslow, or Selena's kid and Ananias being an honorary uncle to them. The supports will also be written as if Kanna is a boy, but will be generic enough to fit both genders. Got someone else you want to support with Ananias that isn't on this list yet? Request it. Remember, all Nohr first generation characters, Soliel, Ophelia, Anna, Kanna, Rinkah, Subaki, and Setsuna are allowed to support with him as well and it is a first come, first serve system.
Author's Note #2: The Fire Emblem Warriors poll is now officially up on my profile! Vote for which five characters you want for Ananias to support with from that game the most and, in the end, ten characters will be selected for Ananias to support with, so make your voices heard. Happy voting!
