"Arthur!" Ananias breathlessly cried out, catching said man's attention just in time before he exited the castle walls and headed into town to perform his daily dose of heroic duties and chores for the day.
"Hmm?" Arthur turned around and smiled at the sight of his fellow retainer running towards him. "Ah! Hello there, my friend! Fine day we're having, wouldn't you say?"
Ananias took a moment to catch his breath before dismissively answering, "Yeah, sure, it's great." He took another moment to recompose himself before asking, "Say, you wouldn't happen to be heading into town right about now, would you?"
Arthur let out a hearty laugh. "But of course! A hero needs to be there when the people need him most, and a hero can't possibly be 'there' if he is not even remotely close to being 'there' to begin with! Know what I mean? And besides, I have a few errands that I need to take care of there, so it'll be like hitting two birds with one stone! A stone of justice!"
"Yeah, sure, whatever," Ananias very quickly said. "So, hey, um… would you mind if I came along with you? Just for today, at least?"
Arthur raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Oh? How come?"
"You see, ever since you told me what happened to the good luck charms Lady Elise and I gave you, I thought, 'Man, how can we counter Arthur's bad luck if all of our good luck charms end up getting lost or stolen?' I thought long and hard about what we should do next, until finally, I came up with what I think is the next best idea."
Arthur grinned encouragingly. "Well then, don't leave me in suspense! Out with it! What is this plan that has gotten you so excited all of a sudden?"
Ananias grinned back and spread his arms out. "It's me, Arthur! I'm going to be your new good luck charm!"
Arthur frowned. "Um… pardon?"
Ananias nodded. "Yeah. I thought that if the good luck charms that we made for you always got lost or stolen, then I'd just have to give you an even bigger good luck charm! And what better bigger good luck charm than someone who can look out for you every time your bad luck strikes? And who better to volunteer than the very same guy who came up with the idea?"
"Ah, well, yes… I can certainly understand the logic behind that," Arthur apprehensively said. "And while I am flattered that you would go to such lengths just to help me… I must respectfully ask for you to reconsider."
Ananias' eyes widened in surprise. "H-Huh? But… why?"
"Please, try to understand," Arthur solemnly said. "I have no problem with dealing with my own bad luck, but to involve someone else in it… well, that's where I draw the line. I don't think that I could ever forgive myself if someone else got hurt for my sake."
Ananias sighed. "Well, yeah, but doesn't that sentiment go both ways?"
"Hmm?"
"Lady Elise and I, we don't like it when you get hurt for our sakes either. We want to help you out in any way we can, but we can't do that if you keep trying to convince us not to."
Arthur let out a tiny gasp of surprise. "Ananias…."
"Look, maybe it is hopeless, trying to fix that bad luck of yours. But can't you at least let us try to be your hero? Just like you always try to be everyone else's? I mean, I don't think it's asking for too much, you know?"
Arthur was silent for a moment before smiling sadly at his fellow retainer and admitting, "Yes, I suppose that isn't. Forgive me, my friend. I seemed to have been so focused on being a hero that I forgot to consider the feelings of the heroes in my life who were looking out for me in return. Could you ever forgive me for this poor excuse for a hero's selfishness?"
Ananias awkwardly scratched the back of his head. "Aw, come on, man. You're not that bad. Come on. Let's go out and… do whatever it is that you do out there."
"It is justice, my friend!" Arthur cried. "Sweet, Nohrian justice!"
"Ananias!" Arthur cried. "Good heavens! Are you alright?"
"Ugh," Ananias groaned. "Where… where did that food cart come from?"
"Ananias! Ananias!" Arthur knelt down and held Ananias' body in his arms. "Stay with me, Ananias! Stay with me!"
"Arthur," Ananias groggily murmured. "That food cart. I've never seen a food cart go that fast before."
"Yes, my friend, it is truly strange! But miraculously, you were faster! You were able to push me away just in time! But alas, you ended up taking the brunt of that food cart in my stead! How can I ever repay you ?!"
"Get me… a healer."
"Yes, of course! Right away!" Arthur stood up while carrying Ananias' battered body. "Hold on, my friend! I will get you the help you need!" He then began to make his way to the nearest healer… only for a bolt of lightning to hit them and send them soaring through the air before roughly sending Arthur into a nearby food stall and Ananias onto the ground. "Agh!"
"Arthur!" Ananias coughed after slowly recovering from the lightning bolt that had struck them down. He then began to try and crawl his way towards Arthur's singed body. "That bolt of lightning. Where did it come from? There's… there's not even a cloud in the sky!" Just then, a group of startled horses trampled over him. "Ugh!"
"Ananias!" Arthur cried. "Good gods! He was completely run over by those horses! That lightning bolt must have startled them! I must find him a healer, before it is too late!" He got up and slowly made his way to Ananias… only to slip on a banana peel and land flatly and violently onto his back. "Oh! Where did that banana peel come from?"
"Ar… thur," Ananias weakly said upon finally managing to crawl towards him. "This… this is ridiculous." He then laid himself down and huffed, "Fine… you win. I quit. This really is impossible."
Arthur couldn't help but let out a pain-filled chuckle. "Yes. That is probably for the best. But…," he groaned, "an 'A' for effort, my friend. An 'A' for effort."
Author's Note #1: And therein ends Ananias' supports with Arthur. I hope you liked them. The next supports will be Silas, followed by Leo, Keaton, and Subaki.
Author's Note #2: The Fire Emblem Warriors poll is up on my profile! Vote for which five characters you want for Ananias to support with from that game the most and, in the end, ten characters will be selected for Ananias to support with, so make your voices heard. Happy voting!
Author's Note #3: As Ananias has no real connection to the Three Houses cast and has no real reason to be there anyway, there will be no Three Houses supports for him. I know that an Anna is in Three Houses, but if we went by that logic, Ananias would have to support with every Fire Emblem character that has ever existed, which would be unrealistic to do, at least for one person. If any of you want to do that yourselves, however, then you have my blessing, it's just that I won't be the one doing it. Sorry.
