"Ezran~ I have something for you~" King Harrow sang as he walked up to his sons, Ezran peering over Callum's shoulder as the older prince sketched something.

"Really? What is it, dad?" Ezran perked up.

"Well, remember how you've been asking for a pet for a while now?" Harrow asked.

"A while? More like a couple months." Callum snorted.

"Anyway, I decided to give in and got you this!" Harrow announced, pulling a box with a bow and airholes from behind his back.

"Did you get me a puppy?!" Ezran cried excitedly.

"Well... Not really a puppy but it should make a faithfull companion." Harrow chuckled sheepishly as he placed the box on the ground and took the lit off.

He reached in and pulled out...

"Some kind of reptile?" Callum asked as he eyed the yellow and blue animal.

It actually seemed to glare back at him.

"Amphibian actually. This little fellow is a glowtoad." Harrow explained as he stroked the animal's back.

"A glowtoad?" Ezran asked in wonder as he eyes the creature who stared back with it's bulgy eyes.

"Yes, his name is Bait." Harrow announced and Bait gave a little groan.

"Nice to meet you, Bait." Ezran grinned and bent down to pet the toad too.

"Say, do you know how to play hide-and-seek?" he right away asked and Bait groaned again.

"That's okay. I can teach you. Come on!" Ezran replied and ran off, Bait surprisingly following him right away and at an impressive pace for something with such short legs.

"They seem to be getting along alright." Callum observed.

"So, why the name Bait?" he asked.

"Oh, just in case Ezran didn't like him, he could live up to his name and be bait for fishermen." Harrow grinned.

"That's horrible!" the teen cried, making him laugh.

"Well, luckily for him it's like you said and they seem to like each other." he chuckled as they watched Ezran run around, searching around corners and bushes until a nearby pile of hay lit up.

Exited, Ezran ran to it and pulled Bait out, the little toad still glowing.

"He's not good hider!" he giggled to his father and brother.

"And I guess he lives up to his name. Of well, his species' name." Callum said.

"So, Ezran? What do you think? Better than a puppy?" Harrow asked.

"Way better than a puppy!" Ezran cheered, holding Bait up high.

Bait gave another louder groan and turned orange, surprising the boys.

"He changes color too?!" Callum blurted in surprise to which Harrow nodded.

"That is something glowtoads are known for besides, well, glowing." he explained.

"He's orange because he's happy!" Ezran grinned.

"How do you know?"

"He told me!"

"Right, right, I'm sure he did, Ez." Callum rolled his eyes affectionately.

"It's true!" Ezran pouted as he glared at his brother while Bait turned red.

"See?! He's angry now!" Ezran pointedly shoved Bait at Callum who winced at the harsh glare the animal was giving him.

"Um, yeah, okay, that's definately angry." he quickly agreed.

"It is possible that the colors glowtoads change into are based on their emotions." Harrow mussed.

"You know, if that's true-" "It is!" "-then I could maybe make a chart about it. You know, cause it could be fun and maybe help some people. I need some colored pencils!" and with that Callum ran off to who knows where.

Harrow just shook his head before looking at his younger son again.

"Are you really happy with him?" he asked one more time, just to be sure.

"Hmm!" Ezran nodded happily, "We're gonna be the best of friends! Right, Bait?" he turned the glowtoad around to look him in the eye.

Bait gave a groan of agreement, delighting the young prince who hugged him tightly.
