"Hmm. Okay, how about you model some clothes for me then?"
Ananias sighed. "Like a mannequin?"
"No, not like a mannequin!" Anna playfully scolded. She then inquisitively held her chin. "Though, now that you mention it, maybe investing in a few mannequins wouldn't be such a bad idea." She then shook her head. "But that's beside the point. The point is that I want you to be my model! Not my mannequin! I mean, come on! We're family! I obviously think of you more than just my dummy."
"At this point, I might as well be a dummy," Ananias glumly muttered. "I mean, it's not like I have any actual talent as a merchant."
Anna frowned. "Hey, I'm still asking you to help out," she gently replied. "Isn't that enough?"
Ananias let out a frustrated grunt as he averted his eyes to the side. "It should," he admitted.
"Well, why not?" When Ananias didn't answer, she added, "Aw, come on, cuz. You know you can talk to me!"
"Can I, though?"
"Hmm?"
Ananias sighed. "Look, in a way, I appreciate the gesture, I really do, but at the same time, I don't want to be the guy who gets special treatment from his family."
"But you're family," Anna plainly pointed out. "Doesn't it go without saying that we're going to give each other special treatment of some kind?"
"Well, yeah, but... you wouldn't hire any other terrible salesman, would you? So why should I be any different?"
"But I'm not asking you to be a salesman. I'm asking you to be my model!"
"But couldn't you find a better model than, well, me?"
"Well, yeah, I could, but a model that good can't be cheap." She smirked. "And besides, something tells me you'd model for me for free."
Ananias sighed. "Look. I'm not a charity. You don't have to go out of your way to include me in your business just because you feel sorry for me. You and I both know that I'd only slow your business down, so just go on and do your thing without me."
Anna tilted her head, obviously concerned. "Is that why you think I'm asking you to help? Because you think I just feel sorry for you?"
Ananias averted his eyes away from her gaze. "Well, yeah."
Anna contemplated over this for a bit. "Hmm. Well, maybe you're right."
Ananias' eyes widened in surprise at the unexpected confession. "Huh?"
"Look, it doesn't take a genius to realize that being the only boy in a family full of girls can be tough, but add the fact that all of the girls look and act exactly the same and can all do things that that one boy can't, well, let's just say that you've got an obvious recipe for disaster. And by 'disaster', I mean a pretty awkward childhood and a nasty inferiority complex." Ananias let out an uncomfortable grunt. He hadn't expected one of his cousins to dissect him so easily. "But so what if I feel sorry for you? I'm giving you the chance to be involved in my business! Why won't you just take it?"
"Like I said, I don't want to be the special kid in the family who needs special treatment."
"But what makes you 'special' though? Your inability to do what the rest of us can do? Your inferiority complex? Your lack of social skills?"
Ananias let out a frustrated huff. "I don't know. Maybe all of the above? Look, I'm not like the rest of you, so just... stop pretending that I am or that it's okay that I'm not, alright?"
Anna placed a finger onto her cheek. "Hmm. I see. So it's the whole 'being different' thing, huh? Well, no offense, mister, but you're not the only one who feels freakishly different from time to time! We Annas do too!"
Ananias rolled his eyes. "Oh, please. You Annas are the exact opposite of different!"
Anna smiled knowingly. "Maybe to each other, but compared to everyone else? Yeah, we all might as well be the freak of the week. I mean, having identical siblings who look and act just like you all across your entire family? What are we, massed produced on a farm or something?"
"O-oh," Ananias quietly said. "I... I guess I never really thought about it that way."
"And you know what makes it even worse? When a bunch of us Annas are all together."
"Um, no offense, but... how does being together make it worse?"
"Because we get to see firsthand exactly what other people see. I can't tell you how many times I've stood next to another Anna and asked myself, 'Wow, am I really that interchangeable? Do I really have nothing that distinguishes me from any other Anna? Am I really not special or unique in any way?'"
"W-wow. I had no idea." Ananias bowed his head. "There you all were with your own issues, and yet there I was only concerned about my own. Man, do I feel rotten."
"Oh, come on!" Anna playfully slapped him on the shoulder. "I didn't tell you all of that just so you could feel bad about yourself! I told you all of that to prove a point!"
"That point being?"
"That we ALL feel different and insecure and alone! Even us Annas! But just like you, we just try to make the best with what we've got. Sure, you may not have any obvious talents, but you've obviously got two hands, and you use those hands to help other people out as best you can! The same goes for us Annas. Sure, we may all have the same skills and talents, but we all use them in different ways. One of us runs a hot springs, one of us runs a resort, and while a lot of us sell things, we do it where we want to do it. It all makes us feel a little bit prouder of ourselves and makes us feel all the more special and unique. And when I say 'special and unique', I mean the good type of 'special and unique'. Not the sad and depressing one that you keep thinking about!"
Ananias chuckled. "Heh. Yeah, I guess I can be a bit of a downer, huh?"
Anna giggled. "A bit. But that doesn't stop the rest of us from being absolutely crazy about you."
"...really?"
Anna nodded. "Uh-huh."
"Um, why?"
"Because, what you see as a curse, we see it as a blessing. Think about it, you're the most unique one out of all of us! You're practically one of our only actual treasures! And just like our other treasures, we like to keep you close to our hearts."
Ananias blushed. "Alright, enough with the mushy stuff. I'll... model for you, if, you know, the offer is still on the table and all that."
Anna gasped. "Oh, you'd really do that for me?"
"After giving me that much-needed reality check, yeah, I would."
"Oh, this is going to be great! I should warn you though, the outfits that I have come from a designer who's a little... experimental with his work."
Ananias' eyes widened in surprise. "Huh?"
"In other words, he doesn't follow the trends, he makes them, so if you feel a little bit uncomfortable in the outfit, just remember that it'll eventually be the next, big thing and that, soon, everyone will be wearing one!" Anna then excitedly ran off to make the necessary preparations.
Ananias ran after her. "'Eventually'? 'Soon'? Hey! Just what the heck are you asking me to wear?!"
