Reno hated Rude's sunglasses.
He hated that his partner never seemed to take them off, incessantly hiding behind the protection they offered against outside gazes.
"What are you glaring at, Reno?"
Reno jumped slightly in surprise. He had been so intent in his hatred towards Rude's glasses that he had spaced out completely. Not a smart thing to do when they were on a stake-out.
Rude raised an eyebrow, but refrained from commenting.
"Nothing, I was just thinking that I hate your sunglasses, yo." Reno finally replied. It couldn't hurt to say what he had been thinking out loud. After all, he was never one for censoring what came out of his mouth.
Now it was Rude's turn to be surprised. Certainly of all the possible things for Reno to say, that hadn't been anywhere close to the top of the list. Or even on the list…
"… What exactly is it about them that you hate? The color? Style?" Rude was intrigued now. Reno's thought patterns were generally off the beaten track, and as such they usually provided enough mild entertainment to alleviate the day's boredom.
Reno shook his head, "Not at all, yo. I just hate you wearing them. I mean I've broken how many pairs of them and you still seem to wear them." His skin flushed a slight pink as he realized what he had said.
Rude grinned, "You broke them on purpose?"
"Just a couple of times. Most of the time it was an accident, yo. I mean, they aren't really a good thing to be wearing during a fight y'know. What if they broke and you got glass in your eyes?"
"So you're just breaking them for my safety?" Rude was thoroughly amused now.
Reno scrambled for a reply. "Not entirely, yo. I just hate when you wear them because I can't tell what you're thinking." This conversation was rapidly heading in a very bad direction. He turned his face away from Rude so that the other man couldn't see his expression.
Rude's smile widened, and he reached up to remove his glasses, tucking them into an inside pocket of his suit jacket. "So you'd prefer that I didn't wear them? But then anyone would be able to see what I was thinking. And that would not be a good thing."
Reno turned back to face at him, looking perplexed. "Why not?" He noted that Rude no longer had his sunglasses on, and that his brown eyes were sparkling with restrained amusement.
"Because then they'd know that I want to do this all the time." Rude grabbed the collar of Reno's shirt and lifted the smaller man to stand on his toes. He leaned down to meet Reno halfway, kissing the other man with no small amount of enthusiasm.
When Reno was finally released he almost fell to the ground. That had been the furthest reason from his mind as to why Rude insisted on wearing those stupid sunglasses. Touching his still tingling lips with the tips of his fingertips he blinked a few times before managing to stutter out, "Keep the glasses on…"
Rude smiled and replaced his sunglasses, resuming his post of watching the house across the street.
