Fate Grand Order / Playable Servant Design
Named as such to prevent spoilers for readers who are going through the chapter list, but this is certainly made for Meleager and something fun I did. The main concepts for Meleager's playstyle were for the sake of supporting Atalanta's playstyle, while being complimented by what Atalanta has to offer to the table - being her massive party-wide quick buff and her ability to set-up crits after her noble phantasm.
I originally wanted to take the lazy route and grab someone's version of Meleager off the internet, but it turns out that no one tried to lay this out. I mean, I did find one, but it definitely didn't have much content placed into it, so I had to build it from the ground up. Making skills names were a bit of a pain to do, but I was happy with what ended up as its results. I took some naming conventions from Achilles.
The only issue came with classes, as he was shaping up to be a Lancer. Unfortunately, this doesn't mix too well with Atalanta's Archer Class. Though, it might have been more fitting to say that it might work much better with Atalanta Alter and her Berserker Class, given the connection of the Calydonian Boar is much more evident. I don't believe he was depicted much with a bow, unlike Atalanta, so unless I'm missing something, he should be going as a Lancer.
The idea behind his kit was to be a sub support to Quick cards (and in turn, Atalanta), while tending to what Ibaraki and Nobukatsu do for Shuten-Douji and Nobunaga respectively. However, Meleager is a formidable hero in his own right, so I wanted him to work in a certain, unique playstyle.
Someone who can be a glass cannon AND a support. Which is weird, but I think it worked out.
And since he's an Argonaut as well, Jason might be a decent party member with his [Conquering the Sea with Friends B++] skill.
Numbers might be wack, but I'm not a game balancer. I wanted to provide each skill with an offensive and defensive option for flexibility. Either you can send him off with utility in mind to support others, or power down on his own sheer strength to break down enemies.
It may also be overloaded, but whatever.
Anyways, here are Meleager's skills I crafted for FGO. I noted a brief explanation of the naming conventions to save people some assumptions and searching for themselves.
[Skill 1] Oplódoupos Aitolianós
Grants self Invincibility for 3 hits, 5 turns.
Increases party's quick performance by 10% - 30% for 3 turns, except for self.
Increases party's attack performance by 10% - 30% for 3 turns, except for self.
Consumes 10 Critical Stars. [Demerit]
If 10 Critical Stars are properly consumed, heal 500 - 2000 HP for every Burn Demerit Stack.
[This skill references the story Odysseus told to Achilles in order to have him return to battle during the early parts of the Trojan War where he was still uncertain on what he should do, given the prophecy he had received. Odysseus came to tell him about a man named Meleager, who did not wish to pursue the war he was involved in. He wanted to retain his peaceful life while the people of his faction fell little by little. After some events transpired and how people desperately came to convince him, he finally returned to the battlefield with a renewed blaze. The war was still brought with a victory with his leadership, but his opportunity to accept those rewards had long passed away unlike Achilles, who still had his chance and was able to receive his just rewards in heeding this story.]
[Meleager has connections to the Greek God of War, Ares, depending on what mythologies you look at. With Oplódoupos being one of Ares' epithets, I merely conjured a literal translation of "Ares of Aetolia." Though, I guess it would be slightly more accurate to have it as "Ares of Calydon", but whatever. "Aitolianós" sounds more cool, in my opinion, and it's not entirely wrong since Calydon was within Aetolia.]
[Skill 2] Apofasistikí Agápi
500% chance to draw attention to self for 1 turn.
Increases self critical damage by 30% - 50% for 3 turns.
Increase self star absorption by 500% - 1000% for 1 turn.
Removes all enemies' buffs if Burn is currently applied on Meleager.
Extend all Burn to Self by 5 turns and if successful, apply one more Burn to Self for 5 turns. [Demerit]
[Machine translated to "Decisive Love", or something like that, this skill was made in reference to his decision to fight the enemies that would dare to approach Atalanta, especially after the events of the Calydonian Boar Hunt. Drawing attention to himself and redirecting their anger, Meleager used his strength to eliminate the ones that stood their way.]
[Skill 3] Calydonian Hunt EX++
Grants self Evasion for 3 hits, 3 turns.
Increases own NP generation by 40% - 60% for 3 turns.
Increases party's NP generation, except for self, by 20% - 30% for 3 turns.
Increases party's star generation, except for self, by 20% - 30% for 3 turns.
Further increases all Atalanta allies' NP generation by 20% for 3 turns, charges their NP by 50%, and increases their NP damage by 30% for 1 turn.
If one Atalanta ally is alive on the field, 500% chance to grant delayed self buff [Final Hunt Strike] for 6 turns.
(Charges own NP by 50% after an Atalanta ally uses an NP. Increases own NP damage by 50% and applies [Ignore Invincibility] to self after an Atalanta ally uses an NP for 1 turn. When these effects activate, remove [Final Hunt Strike] buff and apply Burn to Self for 5 turns. [Demerit])
[This is almost self-explanatory. However, I wanted to use this skill to elaborate a small misconception with the Calydonian Boar Hunt. Atalanta did not kill the boar, she merely landed the first shot. Not sure how people get that confused. Meleager was the one to kill it after Atalanta landed the first hit, and I wanted to represent that in some way in this skill.]
[As you can see, it favours having Atalanta on the field while it is being used. The idea is simple; you use this skill to enable Atalanta to use her noble phantasm first and on the following turns, Meleager will use his noble phantasm. Atalanta gets the first shot, followed by Meleager's killing strike. In theory, anyways. Of course, its execution won't be as clean as that, but the concept is supposed to be held in that image.]
[Its base utility without Atalanta is merely Atalanta's [Calydonian Hunt A] skill, but with better NP Gain and better evasion. And since he was the one to lead the hunt, it should be right that the rest of the party gets a part of the buff as well.]
[Also, I wanted to give Atalanta a giant buff with a 6T 50% NP Gain / 3T 100% NP Gain.]
[Sue me.]
[Passive] Prophecy of Morai
Grants self [Final Hunt Flame] status.
(Burn Demerits cannot be removed.)
(Burn Damage is applied at 150% damage.)
If Burn is applied to Self, increase own attack by 10% for every stack.
[Passive] Magic Resistance D
Increase Debuff Resistance by 12.5%.
[Passive] Riding B
Increase Quick Performance by 8%.
[Noble Phantasm] Telikós Kynígi Calydonia - Leave Behind No Regrets
5 Hits. Anti-Unit.
Increases NP Damage by 10% for every Burn Demerit stack on Self. (Activates First.)
Increase damage against enemies with [Wild Beast] or [Demonic] attribute by 20% for 1 turn. (Activates First.)
Reduces their Quick resistance (20% - 40%, NP Overcharge) for 3 turns. (Activates First.)
Deals significant damage to one enemy. (1200% - 2000%, NP Level)
Seals enemy's skills for 1 turn.
Inflicts self with Burn for 5 turns. [Demerit] (Applied after damage calculation.)
[Noble Phantasm Selected] "Good! Let us end this hunt!"
(Dialogue 1) "A passion that burns eternally in my heart…! A fate that ends with an everlasting flame…! Let this hunt come to its end! Telikós Kynígi Calydonia!"
(Dialogue 2) "Already got the first shot? Then allow me to end this, right here and right now! Even if this is my final hunt, I'll keep moving forwards without any regrets! Telikós Kynígi Calydonia!"
[The namesake of this story, as well as Meleager's main offensive noble phantasm. If it hasn't been obvious yet, Telikós Kynígi Calydonia machine translates to "Final Calydonian Hunt". This is the attack that kills the divine beast, the Calydonian Boar, but I wanted to invent a name that was more in depth than "Boar Killing Strike".]
[Instead, this noble phantasm's name represents who Meleager was. Even though he knew what he was going to do with the prize and what fury might spark out of it, Meleager still went ahead with no lingering regrets. He lived his life with his strength and his emotions on his shoulders and sleeves. Now, he was going to do what would eventually lead into his fiery death, making this his Final Calydonian Hunt.]
[Meleager's line when the noble phantasm when selected is a reference to Atalanta's line upon selecting her noble phantasm, where she says "Good, the hunt begins."]
[Card Deck] : QQQAB
[Game Stats] 13,500 ATK / 11,750 HP
[Stats] Strength B / Agility A / Luck C / Endurance A+ / Mana C- / NP B
[Profile] Being one of the Argonauts, he was known for leading the Calydonian Boar Hunt, being crowned as the one to kill it in the end. Although the decisions he made after its defeat was what led to his death, he said he wouldn't have done a single different thing. With Enyalius, the Treasured Spear of Aetolia's Royal Family, in his hands, Meleager will be a worthy addition to hunt down whatever needs to be hunted. As long as Atalanta's there, he'll happily cooperate, especially if it's for her sake. Oh, and uh, don't mind the little fanclub he started for Atalanta.
[Quotes]
[Likes] "Oh? What do I like? That has to be obvious! I love Atalanta, of course!"
[Dislikes] "… Hippomenes. That shitty bastard. I don't care what the hell his reasons were for cheating in that race, but he was beyond lucky I wasn't around when he did it. And he should consider himself even more lucky he hasn't been summoned to Chaldea. I'll never forgive that bastard ever."
[Holy Grail] "Holy Grail? I don't really have much use for one, but if I ever received it in some manner, I would do the same to it as I did with the Calydonian Boar Pelt. I would give it, and its wish, to Atalanta. I want her to be happy above all else. After all she's been through, she probably needs it more than me."
[Atalanta 1] "Dearest Atalanta! How about a date? I found a great place in the facility just the other day and I was thinking we could go there together?"
[Atalanta 2] "Atalanta? She's smiling here…? That's… You really are special, Master. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. That's all I ever wanted for her and you were able to bring that piece of true happiness to her heart. Thank you so much."
[Atalanta Alter] "This is Atalanta's fate after using the Calydonian Boar Pelt I gave to her? To have become similar to the beast we once hunted together. It's a bit painful to see her like that, but if she used it in such a way, I have the necessity to stand by her side and protect her, even more so now. I have to take responsibility as the one who allowed this to happen."
[Achilles 1] "You know the stories of Atalanta and keep them treasured in your heart, Achilles? Then your father kept his promise to me during our time in the Calydonian Boar Hunt. To preserve the memory of Atalanta as a great hero, not as a curse. I couldn't be happier. ...Hmm? He... also talked about me? Ah, I see. Man, Peleus, you didn't have to go ahead and include me as well..."
[Achilles 2] "Hey, Achilles? Your Big Bro wants to ask you something. I've heard that a few other servants have their own fanclubs and I thought it was ridiculous… that Dearest Atalanta doesn't have one yet! Seriously!? How could you let this happen!? We start one for her, effective immediately!"
[Heracles] "Even after what my sister did to you, you still love her, huh? Even in that Berserker state of yours, the sound of her name still makes a reaction from you."
[Asclepius] "I keep telling you, Asclepius! I don't need your damn medicine! I don't care what it does! My body can already heal itself perfectly fine! N-No, I'm not scared of you! What are you going on about!? And where do you think you're trying to put that anyways!?"
[Jason] "You have my eternal gratitude for your decision that day, Jason. I might have bowed my head a little too low, but it was for her sake, after all. You would do the same for Medea, right? A-Ahaha, was t-too soon? C'mon, it was a joke…"
[Chiron] "T-Teacher!? Seriously!? Why are you here of all places!? U-uhm, argh, I have to go! I just remembered I had some business to do!"
["Orion"] "Artemis! Was it really needed for me to disappear from your precious follower's side, especially when she needed someone to protect her from her fate!? Sorry if I have my scrutiny, goddess, but you didn't help her when she needed you the most, damn it!"
[Bond 5] "Make sure you don't have any lingering regrets at the end of your journey, Master. There is a difference between carrying a regret and carrying a burden. One is something that is hidden deep within your bosom, tearing you apart every step of the way. And the other, it is something you can share with your allies in order to become stronger. Never forget that and always keep moving forwards in your journey."
[Bond CE] My Burning Demise
(Image of the piece of wood that was linked to Meleager's life, being consumed in flames.)
When equipped to Meleager, increase Critical Damage by 20% to all allies. Further increases Critical Damage for all Atalanta allies by 10%.
When equipped to Meleager and deployed with any Atalanta allies, increase NP damage to all allies by 10%.
Apply Burn to Self. [Unremovable] [Lasting Duration] [Demerit]
[The Bond CE pushes Meleager's role in the game, but I thought it would be fitting to have his Bond CE be the burning wood. If Atalanta's Bond CE was the Golden Apple, the item that led to her demise, then Meleager's should be along in the same vein, right?]
[And that's all I got for Meleager in FGO.]
[Oh, and by the way. If it wasn't obvious, I played Fate Grand Order for a while. While I typically have a friend's list that's filled up, it won't hurt to drop my ID down here for a follow. It's 299,468,404. You'll know you got the right account when you see the full-grailed maxed-out Atalanta/Atalanta Alter on the support list. Nyalter's all finished with NP Levels, I just need to finish her golden fous, while I need to find more NP levels for Atalanta. I didn't get a single one during the Apoc Rerun, and I'm sad.]
