"Pigeon, you shouldn't say things like that to John." I scolded Pigeon, who just snorted at me. When I leaned over, wrapping my fingers around John's despite the pain it caused me, I added with a smirk. "Besides there may come a time where I just might take you up on that offer."
Getting a blank stare from both John and Pigeon made my day despite having two injured hands and as I tried desperately not to burst out laughing at the expressions on their faces I couldn't help a giggle once John's lips curled into a smirk that matched my own. "You know I'm starting to like you more and more, Miss Riley." John finally admitted and I smiled back at him, the kiss that followed making me forget all about my sore hands.
"That same could be said about you, John," I replied, not caring that Pigeon was still staring at us with his beak wide open. "Still it's nice not being alone anymore," I said, trailing off with a grimace and John sighed draping an arm around my shoulders.
"Is that why you live alone?" Pigeon asked and John frowned at him though secretly he had been wondering the same thing and I sighed resting my head on John's shoulder. "Struck a nerve huh?"
"Of course you did, Pigeon. You really need to stop bringing up something so painful for her." John replied and Pigeon shrugged, heading back into the kitchen with his now empty beer can. The sight of a can of beer held by a pigeon of all things brought a faint smile to my lips helping me forget all about my ex and my attempted murder at his hands. It also helped when John rested his head against mine, running his hands over mine in an effort to comfort me.
"If you're trying to comfort me, John it's working," I told him after a few seconds and that brought a smile to his lips. The next thing I knew I opened my eyes to find John staring at me and once he saw that I was awake he let out a breath, making both curious as to why he felt the need to even breathe and why he had briefly looked so concerned.
"John, what's the matter?" I tried to ask but my brain and mouth apparently had gone their separate ways and as I cleared my throat John fixed me with a blank stare.
"I think you were trying to say what's wrong?" John commented, a trace of a smile on his lips as I sat forward rubbing at my eyes with the back of one of my bandaged hands. "Jennifer, you fell asleep on the couch and I couldn't wake up. I was beginning to get worried but then you just opened your eyes." He explained, sitting beside me as I stretched my arms.
"Once I fall asleep I'm kind of dead to the world." I pointed out, clearing my throat again when my cheeks burned. "Sorry poor choice of words," I added but John just smiled at me, finding the humor in my apology.
"I know what you mean, Jennifer and it's okay. At least you're polite enough to apologize when you say the wrong thing even when it's unintentional." John said, waving his hand and I nodded, pushing myself up from the couch but I didn't get any further when I felt his arms encircle my waist. "Now just where do you think you're going?" He asked me as I turned my head enough to catch the tiny grin on his face.
"No offense but should we really be making out in front of your friends?" I asked him and he chuckled, gently tugging me into his arms after he lightly kissed the base of my neck I could feel my whole face heating up.
"It's fine, Jennifer. They left a few minutes ago and even when Pigeon slammed the door behind him, which was very rude of him by the way, you didn't even stir once. I'll admit I was a little worried but after I set my hand on your shoulder you opened your eyes." John told me, unable to resist giving my ear a brush with his lips.
"Damn I wasn't really joking about the whole 'sound sleeper' thing was I?" I whispered and John chuckled somewhere close to my right ear. "Wait so does that mean we're finally alone?" I asked him and he snorted, tugging me back onto the couch.
"Are you sure it's wise to leave those two alone?" Pigeon asked as they walked back to Mike's house and Yung raised an eyebrow at him. "What? Who knows what could happen to that poor sweet girl."
"At least Jennifer's safer with Marcus than you," Yung muttered and Pigeon snorted, slightly curious himself as to what Marcus and Jennifer were getting up to right now.
After spending some time making out on the couch I shifted to the kitchen, looking for a drink of orange juice but John didn't make it easy on me. "John, I'm just getting a drink. I won't get into trouble doing that." I sighed, feeling his arms wrap around my waist. "We can get back to making out once I'm finished here," I told him and John nodded, his arms slipping from around my waist though I could feel his eyes on me as I walked over to the fridge.
With some difficulty I soon had the carton in one hand and a glass in the other though I barely managed to pour a glass of orange juice when an arm wrapped around my waist and I raised an eyebrow, tilting my head back enough to see John with a wide smile.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Jennifer. I thought you were done." John apologized and I rolled my eyes at him, barely able to concentrate on my juice when he kissed the base of my throat.
"You're really not going to let me go, are you? I guess I'm stuck then." I asked, pretending to be annoyed though John could see the hint of a smile on my lips, and with a grin that matched my own he gently reached over taking the cup away. Once he set it down on the table he pulled me back into his arms and I smiled to myself after John cupped my chin drawing me into a kiss that left my heart pounding. Less than half an hour later we started to head in the direction of the bedroom, discarding our robes as we walked hand in hand.
