Chapter 1! New sweet type story time!
I asked and people said they wanted OP quirked Izumi so that's what I'm doing. It's Momo x Izumi this time around and like I mentioned before this story is going up same day as another new story which is also an OP quirked Izumi so make sure to check out If It All Breaks as well.
While both stories are OP quirked Izumi, this one is going to follow my formula for when I write Tiger's Bite while the other will be a little more overall serious. That just means that it's more of a mix of sweet day to day with action here and there. I'll go more in depth in the end notes as always.
Disclaimer: I don't own BNHA or the referenced power
Enjoy, more notes at the end!
Chapter 1: Half Speed
*Momo POV*
It was winter break and while normally Momo would have been studying, her U.A recommendation exam was coming up after the break, her parents had asked her to accompany them on a nearby half business half vacation trip. Having already been checked into the onsen hotel they'd be staying at and having spent a wonderful early part of the day with her parents, Momo freely wandered around with her escort while her parents talked their business. Despite being on a trip the black haired girl still had plenty on her mind, between the upcoming exam, how to improve her quirk, what things she'd be learning as a hero, and what kind of people she would meet, she felt as if she almost didn't have time to just be walking about. Her thoughts were briefly put on hold as she saw a lone figure lying alongside the edge of a pier.
Quickly jogging towards them, worried that something was wrong, Momo called out, "Excuse me! Are you alright over there?"
The figure shifted a little, a questioning hum coming from them as they sat up. It was a girl with green hair that reached just slightly below her shoulders, a powder of freckles and bright green eyes that turned to her almost lazily. She looked about Momo's age and wore bright red sneakers, a pair of black jeans, a yellow shirt that read 'unclear' and a white jacket that was loosely draped on her shoulders. The green haired girl nodded at Momo before sweeping her hair back with her hands and putting on a plain boater hat with a yellow stripe around it.
"Ohhh? I didn't expect to see anyone else out here in the cold." The greenette replied with a slow playful tone, "I'm quite alright miss." The girl answered, propping her chin up with her knee.
"Well that's a relief, I apologize if I disturbed you." Momo bowed slightly, glad that nothing had happened.
"Thank you for the concern," The freckled girl smiled but her tone remained the same, "It's nice to have a little company." Momo watched as the green haired girl reached over to the side and took hold of a fishing rod which she'd missed in her hurry. Momo briefly saw the greenette side eye her and then she smiled, "Would you like to try?"
Momo was caught off guard by the question but shook her head, "That's quite alright, I should probably head off soon."
"Hmmm, suit yourself." The girl smiled softly and turned her gaze back to the sea.
Beginning her return back to the hotel, Momo briefly realized that she'd never gotten the girl's name.

She wasn't sure why she was drawn back to the pier but Momo once again found the green haired girl sitting there the next day.
Not sure how to start the conversation, Momo simply went for what the girl was doing, "Have you caught anything?"
The greenette once again turned to her slowly, a small smile on her lips, "Unfortunately no but it's fine since the pretty miss from the other has come to see me."
Momo blushed slightly, "There's no need to call me as such."
"Oh, then what should I call you?" The greenette wondered.
"Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Yaoyorozu Momo." The black haired girl bowed politely.
"Midoriya Izumi," The freckled girl replied with a nod, "It's a pleasure Yaoyorozu-san."
"Likewise Midoriya-san." Momo said, standing beside Midoriya, "Do you live here in Gamagori?"
"Yup, I suppose you don't." Midoriya wondered back.
"I live closer to Toyota." The black haired girl informed, "I'm here on a trip with my parents."
Midoriya hummed in understanding, "The onsens right? They're definitely worth a trip especially since you don't live too far."
Momo continued talking with Midoriya, the greenette's laid back nature and odd way of speaking keeping Momo's interest, and she'd found out that they were indeed the same age.
"Which high school are you aiming for Midoriya-san?" Momo asked curiously.
"Hmm? The heroics course at U.A." She stated, getting the creation girl to raise an eyebrow in surprise.
"I am also aiming for U.A's heroics course," Momo told the girl who peered over curiously, "I'll look forward to seeing you there."
After the trip, Momo would need to refocus on her studies before the recommendation test. Between her reading, studying, continuing her quirk training and of course finishing out the rest of her 3rd year as a junior high student which she couldn't afford to slack in. Afterwards, once she made it into the heroics course she would still have 3 months before the school year began. During that time, her last year would be another 2 months and then spring break would begin and she would need to properly gather supplies and materials for her first year at U.A and extra studying could never hurt but-
"You're schedule seems quite packed Yaoyorozu-san." Midoriya's voice broke Momo out of her thoughts and she realized that she'd embarrassingly said all those things out loud.
"M-my apologies for rambling Midoriya-san." Momo bowed and the other girl chuckled before holding out the fishing rod that she'd once again reeled in, "You're on vacation aren't you? Feel free to relax for a bit."
Momo was about to decline like she had the other day but the amused look in Midoriya's eyes stopped her, perhaps it wasn't exactly a bad idea. The green haired girl slid the cooler she had to Momo and the creation girl sat on it. She had never fished before so she didn't really have much of a clue about what to do. Noticing her confusion, Midoriya stood up and guided her, the black haired girl finally getting a proper cast after a few failed attempts.
They sat in silence for a while and Momo found that instead of being bored, something about the nigh mundane task mixed with the roll of the water and the chill of the air was almost enjoyable. Light danced across the waves and her head which had been clouded with so many thoughts felt clear. Momo sat peacefully, every so often shifting the rod while she listened to Midoriya comment here and there and before she knew it, she had been there for an hour.
Feeling her phone buzz faintly, Momo was taken out of her trance, "It seems I need to leave now Midoriya-san." Momo told the girl, a hint of disappointment in her tone.
"A hobby that you can simply enjoy slowly..." The girl beside Momo smiled to herself, still focused on the task before her as she took over the rod, "is nice too."
Momo stared for a moment, "Yes. It is." She agreed.
Midoriya reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone, swiping at the device she held it up towards Momo. The black haired girl did the same and quickly brought them together, hearing a quiet ping.
"Feel free to call on me whenever." Midoriya assured her, still looking out at the sea.
"I'll be in your care." Momo replied abruptly, the words practically falling from her mouth and Midoriya acknowledged her with an amused hum.
Momo was greeted by her parents as she returned to the hotel and after speaking with them for a moment she took out her phone and stared at the new addition to her contact list. She'd be returning home tomorrow but thankfully she'd made a friend.

*All Might POV*
The girl reminded him of Hawks, both the laid back attitude as well as the efficient and incredible speed at which she dispatched the robotic villains. The green haired girl, Midoriya, sat a top one of the tall buildings in the testing field and continued destroying the villain bots with ridiculous ease. Toshinori didn't know exactly what her quirk was but the girl seemed to be shooting beams of light at the bots, only needing as much as a point of a finger to pierce straight through them. The pattern of pointing at a faraway target and then destroying them continued and the girl seemed completely unbothered either way, not particularly pleased or disappointed.
Looking over at the scores, Midoriya's points steadily held first since the beginning of the exam and that remained true as she had just hit a score of 90. The blonde hero's other staff members had of course noticed the girl as well, it was difficult not to, and they'd commented on her extreme efficiency and how she hadn't obtained any rescue points because she'd defeated the bots before they even had a chance to endanger other testers. The panel of judges watched eagerly when they'd noticed that the green haired girl had actually stood up, her green eyes look down into the streets as the zero pointer began moving. A brown haired girl had been trapped by rubble from the mechanical giant's punch and Midoriya's body began to glow brightly.
The girl could no longer be seen clearly and light particles began to moving in the direction of the far off trapped girl. The masses of light zoomed towards her and suddenly Midoriya had gone from the top of the tall building to standing beside the downed girl. The greenette said something to her and raised a leg. Thrusting her foot in the direction of the robots head, the bottom of it glowed fiercely and a bright beam rocketed forward at top speed. It connected with the zero pointer's head and there was a brief moment of silence before the colossal bot's head violently exploded, completely destroyed from Midoriya's attack. Shouts of surprise rang from inside the observation room all while Midoriya helped the brown haired girl out of the rubble.
Toshinori believed that this would be an interesting year.

*Momo POV*
Spring break had come and for once, Momo felt as if she was completely burning out. While she had managed to keep in contact with Midoriya, both of them making it into U.A, the schedule she had kept for herself was high paced and exhausting. The strange part was that the workload she'd created wasn't much different than what she'd always done. After those couple days with Midoriya, Momo had found herself craving, almost jealous of, the way the girl took her day to day things slowly. Over the three months, she had received pictures of some of the green haired girl's simple adventures that ranged from going for a walk along a koi filled waterway, fishing in a river, or even just laying in the sand of a beach.
As if her thoughts were spilling out, Momo's phone buzzed and she looked at the ID, "Midoriya-san? You usually don't call." Momo wondered before a yawn escaped her lips, "My apologizes I've just been so exhausted lately."
The black haired girl could almost imagine Midoriya's face of mock surprise and amusement, "Ohhh? You must be working too hard Yaoyorozu-san." The girl noted.
Seeing the girl's words as a chance, Momo swiftly recovered, "I'm always interested in the places you take pictures of so maybe you have somewhere you'd recommend."
"Is that so? Well, I think I have something in mind." Midoriya suggested, "How about we meet up for a bit?"
"I'll gladly accept the offer."
-break-
Momo's fatigue melted away as she steeped her feet in the warm water. It was a simple thing but Midoriya had taken her to Gero for little else than a foot bath. All the stress that had been piling on her was slowly forgotten as her entire body was warmed up. Momo had originally thought that doing such small things would prove to be wasteful but the way Midoriya enjoyed them and the way she was enjoying them herself proved otherwise. The green haired girl beside her sat peacefully while she hummed a tune and Momo closed her eyes while she continued to relax.
The familiar teasing tone reached Momo's ears, "Feeling better now Yaoyorozu-san?"
"Absolutely, it's like all my troubles have gone off." Momo answered truthfully, "By the way Midoriya-san, I've been so busy that I don't think I've ever asked about your quirk."
The greenette laughed gently "Curious hmm? I call it Lightworks. I can basically transform my body into light." Midoriya told her, "It lets me fire light beams and bullets, transport myself distances quickly, bounce off things, and avoid damage altogether by reshaping myself." She listed off a few of her capabilities with her fingers.
Momo was a bit thrown off by just how powerful the quirk sounded, "A quirk like that seems...complicated."
"You're the one with Creation as a quirk." The girl shot back playfully.
"That's true," Momo agreed with her own small laugh, "but well, your quirk sounds so powerful, versatile, and strange that it must take a lot to control." She began, her words trailing off a little.
"So do I really have time to be taking it so easy?" Midoriya finished for her and Momo flushed a little. "Who knows," The girl chuckled, "When I'm serious, I'm serious. When I relax, I relax. It's fine to take things 1 day at a time."
"But being a hero..." Momo added and the girl turned her head to gaze at her from the side of her eye.
"We'll be in the same class so you can decide then if I'm serious." The greenette reminded her.
Basically, Momo had to decide for herself with her own eyes. She didn't dislike the idea, "That's fine then."
The two girl's eventually went on their way, Midoriya treating her to a meal before they took the train back home. Momo felt a bit of disappointment as her stop neared but Midoriya tapped her on the shoulder.
"Spring break just started so I'll take you somewhere good whenever you want." Midoriya offered and Momo felt a pleasant feeling in her stomach.
"I'll look forward to it." She smiled, Midoriya humming prettily.
"Don't just look forward to it, give me a call." She giggled.
"I will."
Notes and Stuff
First off, if you don't know the ability it's Kizaru's powers from One Piece. Get it, OP for One Piece as well as overpowered? Comedy.
Anyways, I've done a bit of slight tone up tone down with the powers so she's not as fast as Kizaru is, I mean supposedly he moves at the speed of light, but it also means she doesn't have the water weakness. I did make it her quirk rather than gaining it from a Devil Fruit so it's not a crossover either. Of course I'm not the only one who has given Izuku/Izumi a power from One Piece but I don't think I've seen one where it was Kizaru's ability.
Considering I named this Slice of Light as a play on the 'Slice of Life' genre expect a lot of just fun day to day stuff between Momo and Izumi. Of course I'll still have plenty of action when the times come but given the nature of an OP Izumi it means that events can get solved pretty fast.
This Izumi is from the city Gamagori in Aichi Prefecture and Momo is canonically from Aichi Prefecture herself so I placed her near the city of Toyota. They're a bit over an hour from each other. Gamagori is known for its onsens by the way. Gero is in Gifu Prefecture and has a number of foot baths that locals and tourists both enjoy, it's about 2 hours from Toyota by car.
Momo's a busy and hardworking gal so I wanted her to find the appeal of slow life-ing with Izumi. Izumi has a fishing hobby since Kizaru is a navy admiral by the way.
On another note, eventually I'm going to hit that character pairing overlap. I'm trying my best to do different pairs (Sans already having two Itsuka x Izumi stories) and while there's plenty of female characters to pair with Izumi there are some I don't particularly feel like writing for or don't have ideas for. By the time this story comes out I'll have already posted the Rumi x Izumi story and thinking on it I might try for more fluff stories that don't have much action in them but only for some pairs, an example being if I did maybe Ryuko (Ryukyu) x older Izumi or if I did some kind of AU or idea based of something else, we'll see.
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed and look forward to more updates from me!
