Lirlia woke up and realized that it was morning. 'Great.' She thought. 'I slept a lot more than normally I do. But I guess I was tired after everything.' She stood and went to the bathroom. She had a bit of difficulty to make the water run, but once she managed, she washed her face. After that, she sat again on the bed, fixing her armor and checking her resources. Her stomach's sudden growl made her sigh in frustration. She stood and grabbed her gun before using the device Obi-Wan gave her. Looking it on her hand made her to scratch her head in confusion. She then pressed the middle of the device and a light started to glow. After a few minutes, she heard the door being knocked. She went to the door and opened it. A female Jedi was waiting outside.
"You called,Lirlia?" She said.
"Um... yeah. I called. You are...?"
"Oh! I'm Master Jedi Stass Allie. I'm a healer here." She said. "What do you need?"
"Um... a place to eat. Haven't eaten in a while." Lirlia said.
"Of course! Follow me. I'll take you to the Mess Hall. You'll get something to eat." The Jedi said. Lirlia nodded her thanks and followed her. They walked in silence till they arrived. There, the Jedi showed her around the Temple, explaining to her what each room do as well as how to use things. Lirlia took note of what she was being explained, not wanting to make a mistake.
When they arrived, it was full of younglings and Jedi initiates with some Jedi knights and few Jedi Masters. Stass Allie and Lirlia went to the main table to eat. As they ate, Stass Allie managed to ask the question she wanted to say when she learned about Lirlia.
"So, Lirlia."
"Yes?" She asked, taking a bite of her food.
"When was the last time you've had a medical check?"
That caught Lirlia off guard. She thought hard before answering. "Define 'medical check'."
"Basically, it's a physical check to see if you are healthy."
"Oh... I guess that I'd never done it, then." She answered. "With everything happening so fast back in my home, we didn't have much time to do a 'medical check'. Not because we didn't want to, cause I understand by its name the importance of it. It was because with our healing potions we could heal almost everything."
"Really? Then, would you let me do a medical check on you?" Stass asked hopefully.
"Why do you want to do one for me?" Lirlia asked.
"Just to be sure. I'd like to see how healthy you are." Stass pressed a bit.
Lirlia remained quiet for a bit, making the ambient a bit tense for Stass. After a minute or so, she answered. "Ok. I'll let you do one of those."
Internally, Stass sighed in relief. "Great! Would you like to do it after breakfast?"
"Sure. After this, we can go."
With that settled, they continued with their breakfast in peace. Lirlia sometimes broke the silence to ask questions regarding about the Temple and the teachings the children got.
After that, they went to the Medical Wing and Stass made Lirlia sat in a chair.
"I'd like for you to take off your... armor, so I can do the check properly."
"Umm... alright." Lirlia said and started to take off her armor. First the helmet-like crown over her head, them the arms, chestplate, waist and legs. She stood in her underwear in front of Stass. Said Jedi gestured her to sit on the chair and walked to her holding a small device. Upon Lirlia's question, Stass explained that it serves to check her vitals, like blood pressure and hearbeat. Lirlia stood still as the device checked her. When it was finished, Stass took away the device and then took a syringe and inserted it on Lirlia's skin.
"Ow! What's that?"
"I'm taking a blood sample." Stass explained. Then with a smile, she added. "Don't worry, it'll pass soon." She said.
Lirlia stood still as the Jedi took the sample. Once finished, Stass took away the syringe and went to grab a tissue to make the wound heal. Only so see it already healed.
"What's wrong?" Lirlia's question shook Stass from her shock.
"Nothing." She said grabbing a small hammer. "I will make the chair going higher and try this on your knee, ok?"
"Ok."
Stass did all the tests she could think of, from the knee reflex, eyes reflex, strength, breathing, memory, hearing, etc. She found that Lirlia exceeded the normal category, having better hearing than normal humans, better reflexes, her vision was at 100%. Her physical strength is beyond Stass could haver ever imagined. Lirlia has better stamina than most soldiers or Jedi, and can recover fast. Stass theorized that it could be because of the weapons Lirlia needed to carry. And because her home is tougher than the Jedi Temple or the Republic.
"We are done now. Your physical check is complete. I must say that you are in better condition than most of your age."
"Really? Well, hunting and running around all day pays off at the end."
"I believe so. You may get dressed." She said. Lirlia nodded and walked to her armor to put it on. Meanwhile, Stass was checking the results of the blood sample after she placed it over a designed machine.
"So, how long until I know my health condition?" Lirlia asked, already dressed.
"Just a few more seconds." Stass said. Ten seconds later, the machine beeped and Stass looked at the results. Her face went from normal to shock again.
"Your face tells me that something is going on."
Looking to the younger woman, Stass cleared her throat. "I'm just surprised to see that your health surpasses my expectations." She said. She then showed the device to Lirlia. "See this? Your heart is healthy and still strong. Your blood pressure is in normal values. The same with your sugar, proteins, lipids, etc."
"Wow. I can't believe that I have that much things running in my blood." Lirlia said.
"Yes. They are essentials that can be obtained on the diet."
"So, am I healthy and free to go, right?"
Stass nodded. "Indeed. You may go."
"Thank you!" Lirlia said as she then exited the room. After her departure, Stass sat on the chair, the device still showing the results she was looking.
'Midichlorian level: inconclusive.'
Immediately after the results, Stass Allie contacted the council. While most were fighting in the frontlines, some could attend.
"I made a medical check upon Lirlia. And the results are beyond of a normal human being."
"Explain." Windu said.
"She's physically stronger than most humans. She can recover her stamina faster, too. Her reflexes are also faster. And her hearing is better than normal humans."
"What about her midichlorian levels?" Mundi asked.
"That's the thing. It said Inconclusive."
"Inconclusive?"
"Exactly. I checked it afterwards three or four times, but the results were the same."
"This is unexpected." Plo Koon said.
"What could this mean? Master Yoda, do you have an idea?" Shaak Ti said via hologram.
The small green alien thought for a moment. "Strange, this is. Mean something, we do not. Inconclusive, it is not. Strong in the Force, she is."
"We could teach her about the Force." Lumimara said.
"Talk to her later, I will." Master Yoda said, dismissing the meeting.
Later that day, Lirlia was catched up by Master Yoda over the fountains. The green alien found her looking around, apparently lost.
"Lost, are you?" He said, surprising her.
"Yeah. Been looking around, but I always lose myself."
Yoda chuckled. "Talk to you, I wish. Come with me, would you?"
"Sure. I don't see why not." She said. The both of them walked around the Fountains, with Lirlia enjoying and asking about the sight.
When they arrived at Master Yoda's room, he made her sit on one of the chairs, with him on the opposite chair. He has his eyes closed.
"Strong in the Force, you are." He said after some minutes, opening his eyes.
"How can you be so sure about it?" She asked.
"Feel it, all Jedi do. Bright, your presence is. Pure. Like a beacon, your presence is."
"Is that a bad thing, or a good thing?"
"Neither. Depending on what you chose, the answer is. Tell me more of your home, may you?"
Lirlia told Master Yoda about her home, with more details than what she explained to the others. She told him about her life before and after becoming a Hunter, what she and her friends found, what they fought against and how they succeeded.
"Hmm... full of life, your world is. Strong in the Force, I feel it is. Making the rest of the creatures to be strong. Reason why your armor and gun are connected to the Force, I think it is."
Lirlia remained quiet as she then looked to her book.
"You also said before that I am strong in it."
"Say that, I did. Strong you are."
"So that'd mean that I can use it?"
"Indeed. Want to feel it, do you?"
"Ok. Tell me what to do."
"Close your eyes." She did as she was told. "Relax your muscles." She relaxed them. "Breath on and out slowly." She did that, breathing slowly. "Feel something, do you?"
"Not really."
"Continue with my instructions. Feel around yourself." He encouraged.
This continued for a few minutes. But with no results. Lirlia sighed and stood, moving her shoulders and legs.
"I cannot feel anything. I only feel my muscles, hear the environment and nothing more."
"Hmm..." Master Yoda said.
"That makes me think that I cannot use the Force or... whatever it is." She said, sitting again on the chair. "If I'm strong on it, then why can't I use it the way you do?"
"Hm... good question, that is. Why can't use the Force, if strongly connected to it one is? Many answers, that question has."
"Ugh... what a dilemma."
"Indeed." He said standing and walking to the window. "In mysterious ways, the Force works. Pain you suffered before gettin here, you said."
"Yes. It was strange. I've never felt that before. Then the ground shook and I fell. After that, I woke up in this place." She said,
"Hmm..." Yoda then looked to Lirlia and walked to her. "Where pain you suffered?
"Im my head. Just over mu forehead."
"See your forehead, may I?"
"Sure. Let me take off my helmet." She said as she unbid the locks and removed her helmet, her forehead free and her birth mark was exposed.
"Strange mark, that is." Yoda said.
"Had it since I remember. My parents always told me that it was special. But that was before they died in that night." She said. Not wanting to pry on painful memories, Master Yoda walked to her and pressed his right hand over the mark. As he suspected, the Force is strong there.
"Hmm... from the Force, this mark is. Answer to the Force, the Mark does."
"You think that the mark was the mark that made me feel pain that day? Because the Force wanted me to feel pain?"
"An answer, could that be. But because it wanted to feel you pain, the answer it is not. Bringing you here, the Force did."
"But why? Why the Force brought me here?"
"Direct answers, most of the time, the Force does not provide. Searching for them, we must." He said, stepping aside her.
"What should I do then?"
Yoda thought for a moment. "Hmm... sure of that, I am not." He then looked at her. "But find the answers, you will."
"Ugh... guessing that I won't find them in this room. Where should I start?"
"The Library, a start could be."
"Ok. I will go there, then. Mind showing me the path?"
Yoda nodded and went with her to the Library. There, he showed her what she may need. But when he passed her the texts for her to read, another problem appeared: Lirlia didn't know how to read in their language. So Master Yoda stayed with her to read the documents. It was a pleasurable time for both of them.
This continued for a few days, with Master Yoda or any other Jedi that could be available at the moment aided her after Yoda told the Council about her inability to use the Force. So far, she's learned a lot about the Force, but cannot use it.
She spent a week learning. And an attack happened on the library. A bounty hunter was hired to steal a holocron from the Jedi. Since Lirlia wasn't there at the moment that it happened, she was told about it after the Jedi retrieved the holocron, and the children. At the end of the week, Lirlia became a bit bored. While she learned a lot, she's itching on doing something. So she asked if she could help in the battles of the Republic. The council considered that, but since it was her that wanted to help, they sent her in the next available mission.
The next battle was on Shili. The Separatist wanted control over its natural resources, amid the Republic cannot let that to happen.
Now, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, Shaka Ti and Lirlia were traveling through hyperspace to Shili. Their fleet consisted on three heavy armed battle cruisers, with ground troops when they land. They expect heavy resistance on space and on ground.
Now, the four of them were gathered around the holotable. The planet was shown to see. There are three Separatist ships class Munificent.
"Ok, here's the plan. Anakin and I will fight over the space with our teams. Shaak Ti, Ahsoka, you'll go to the ground." Obi-Wan said.
"What about me?" Lirlia asked,
"You can join us on the ground if you want." Shaak Ti said.
"Once Anakin and I have made an opening for you to enter, you'll go to the ground. Once there, you'll engage the droids over the forest. You'll have to move through it to reach the city and fight to take control of the city."
"What are our odds?" Ahsoka asked.
"In our favor, as always, Snips."
"If there is no other question, let us begin. Prepare yourself for the incoming battle."
With that, everyone went to prepare themselves for the battle. Most of the clones are ready to depart and are getting over the LAATs.
Shaak Ti found Lirlia near one, apparently loading her gun.
"Nervous?" She asked, surprising the girl. Lirlia looked a her, then back to her gun.
"Not really. I'm just loading my gun. I forgot to do it before we came here." She said.
"What kind of ammunition does your weapon use?"
"Different kind. But I'd rather having them loaded and ready than not. Also, I'm going to use the lesser ones. We call them Normal ammo, and there is three kind of them. The higher the number we gave it to each, the stronger the ammo is."
"I see. Do you know how to move around with clones and against droids?"
"Not really. I usually go alone or in a team of four." Lirlia answered.
"Four? Isn't that few for those kind of 'hunts' you do?"
"It's enough. And don't worry about me." Lirlia said, aiming the gun before sheathing it back on her back. "I'll be fine, I'm more concerned about your friends here."
"They'll do what is necessary for victory. Don't worry about them." Shaak Ti said.
The alarm went off, meaning that they are about to arrive. Lirlia and Shaak Ti went inside one LAAT, getting ready.
"We'll take off as soon as Kenobi and Skywalker do the opening. It'll be a bit shaky on our way to the ground." Shaak Ti said.
Lirlia only nodded. She unconsciously went to her pocket and grabbed one of the pendants she took with her before exiting her home, praying that everything will be ok.
The cruisers exited hyperspace, and were met immediately by heavy fire from the Separatists. Anakin and Obi-Wan with their respective team, managed to destroy a Separatist cruiser, making the opening for the ground troops to go.
Lirlia felt her heart speed up when the LAAT took off and shook by the fire the enemy were firing against them. The ship shook once more when a nearby LAAT exploded.
But soon after, they were on the atmosphere and soon on the ground. When the pilot of the LAAT opened the doors, Lirlia and the rest of the people inside with Shaak Ti immediately exited. The forest was dense, but many droids could be seen. They run through the trees, firing. Lirlia unsheathed her weapon and fired against the droids. Shaak Ti and Ahsoka destroyed droids and deflected their shots.
They moved slowly through the forest towards the city, firing and shooting down the droids there. After an hour or so, they arrived just outside the city, over a hill.
"Ok, so we are here, what's the situation over there?" Ahsoka asked as Shaak Ti observed through the telescope.
"Not well." She said, handing it to Ahsoka. "They took prisoners and the city is well guarded. We cannot do a front attack without injuring the people there."
"That complicated things." Ahsoka said.
"Indeed.l
"So what now?" Lirlia asked approaching them.
"Unless we have a way to go there undetected, we cannot do a front attack. We'll injure the people there."
"And those cannons will wrecked us and any incoming ship that gets too close." Ahsoka said.
"Hmm..." Lirlia thought. "Isn't there any other entrance?" She asked.
"Not that we know about." Shaak To answered.
Lirlia looked around, and found a higher place to stand that is on range of her special ammo. She went there as no one gave her attention. She climbed the hill with the help of her slinger, grasping gaps over the rocks to Beth higher faster. Once there, she charged the special ammo and got over her belly, aiming carefully to the cannons.
"Maybe two attacks at once will divide their forces." Rex said.
"But that'll leave many of clones without support. We are a handful." Ahsoka said.
"Rex's idea could work. But as you said Snips, it will leave us more exposed." Anakin added.
"Wait, where's Lirlia?" Shaak Ti asked, realizing now that the woman was not with them. Before anyone else could say something, a shot was heard. They watched as something hit the cannons and even penetrated them. After a second or two, a series of explosions happened in sequence, destroying the cannons and many droids with them.
"... or maybe we could have let that to Lirlia. All forces, prepare to engage!" Shaak Ti said. They run towards the city, with the droids completely in disarray. Lirlia jumped off the hill and destroyed some droids when she landed. She loaded her normal ammo and fired.
In about half an hour later, they captured the city and freed its inhabitants.
"We can't thank you enough for saving us." Said the leader of the city. "We'd like to join the Republic and aid it with this war."
"I appreciate it." Shaak Ti said. She then turned to Lirlia, who was helping some people with bandages,
"Ok, keep this tight, and not let it loose, or the bleed will start again." She said to a teenager.
"Lirlia, may I have a word with you?" Shaak Ti said.
Lirlia stood and walked to Shaak Ti.
"What do you need?" She asked.
"Thanks to you, we managed to save the city."
"I'm glad I could help."
"I'm curious as to what you did to destroy the cannons."
"Oh! I used the special ammo that m Bowgun has. Wyvernsnipe."
"Wyvernsnipe?"
"Mmhmm! With Heavy Bowguns, you can get one of two special ammo. The first one is Wyvernheart, which is a series of ammo being fired rapidly. The other, and the one that my gun has, is Wyvernsnipe. You load it on your gun, got on your belly to aim, and fire. The shot will penetrate almost anything. If fired well, it'll penetrate more. After a second or two, depending on how much the shot penetrated, a series of consecutive explosions will happen, damaging the target." Lirlia explained. "I saw a hill a bit higher and got there, seeing that my gun was in range to fire the snipe."
"Well, thanks to that, we won this battle."
"What about the space? Have Anakin and Obi-Wan with their friends won?"
"I don't know. But something tells me that they have won."
After that, they helped others to get healed and waited for the troops on space to contact them. After two or so hours, Obi-Wan contacted them and told them that they've won, and that they'll send LAAT to pick them up. They took what they could to reuse and waited for their transport to arrive.
After that, they went back to the cruiser and returned to Coruscant. When they arrived, a new mission was set for Anakin and Ahsoka: they were needed on Geonosis to destroy a droid factory.
Lirlia wanted to go, but an invitation from Chancellor Palpatine made her to deny the offer. He said she'd like it. So she went to his office.
When she entered, she found Palpatine over his desk, is back facing her.
"Umm... Chancellor? You wanted to see me?" She asked, a bit timidly for interrupting his work. She saw him turn around, his paperwork forgotten.
"Ah! Lirlia. Come dear." He stood and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"I'm not interrupting you? I mean, you looked that you were busy. And I wouldn't want to interrupt you." She said.
"Don't worry about that, Lirlia. I was almost finished. And it was me who called you, didn't I?" He said. "I heard that you went to the mission on Shili."
Lirlia nodded. "I did. I wanted to help in any way that I can for the Jedi. They've been teaching me about different things." She scratched the back of her head. "Sometimes it gets a bit overwhelming, you know?"
Palpatine's face turned into an understanding one. "I cannot imagine how overwhelming that kind of information is for you."
"Yeah. But I'm doing my best."
"And what have you learned about the Force?"
Lirlia shrugged. "In theory, a lot. But I cannot put it to practice."
Palpatine tilted his head to the side. "Why not?"
"While I'm strong in the Force, like Master Yoda said, I somehow cannot use the Force like the Jedi."
"Really? That is quite strange to happen. My understanding is that anyone strong enough in the Force is capable of using it. And even communicating with it."
"Yeah, that's what Master Yoda said. There are answers that may or may not appear in time. But how can I get the answers if I cannot use the Force thing like a Jedi? I only want to return to my home."
Palpatine put a hand over her shoulder again. "And you will. We will help you, like you are doing now." He smiled. Lirlia smiled in turned.
"I hope so." She said. "So, what did you call me for?"
"I wanted to invite you to an opera, but since you just returned from Shili, I'd like to ask you about your experience. Surely it must have been an unique experience, different from those hunts you do on your home. from what you told us." He said walking to the other room with Lirlia following.
"Well... it wasn't the first time I get to go to unknown places, but it was the first time that I've been with more than three companions. The maximum I've worked with in normal... missions... are four people. In certain situations, the amount of people helping can increase up to 50 or 60. This time, it was hundreds, if not a thousand, of different companions."
"I can see what do you mean. From few people to more than one hundred in a short time is a bit complicated to get used to." Palpatine said.
"Yeah. But, I will get use to it. I must do it, otherwise I wouldn't be able to perform in battle, especially since it was me who offer to help you."
"That is a great goal to follow. And for that, I thank you." Palpatine said.
"Is there anything else you wanted to talk about? You said you wanted to invite me to an opera?" Lirlia asked.
"Oh, yes! I got these invitations, and I thought that you'd like a time to relax."
"I appreciate it." She said as both of them started walking to Palpatine's shuttle.
"I assure you that you'll love it, dear. Have you ever been in an opera before?"
"If memory serves, I remember an opera I attended before I became a Hunter. My boss at that time gave me the ticket. I attended and I actually I enjoy it."
"Then you'll like this one." They entered his shuttle, with Mas Amedda waiting. The three of them went to the Opera, got in their seats and watched the show. Sometimes they'd chat, Lirlia would ask some things. Palpatine saw her closing her eyes, enjoying the show.
When it was finished, Palpatine turned to her.
"So, how was it?"
Lirlia looked to him, a smile on her face. "I like it! The song was beautiful, and the voices were the perfect fit."
"Glad to hear that."
"And the way the dancers moved! It was like every movement, every small bend, every breathing was calculated till the smallest detail." She rambled and look to the opera again. "I really liked it."
"Well, it's moments like these that I also enjoy. Perhaps we could enjoy them together from time to time, if you like, dear."
"Really?" She asked, looking at him. Then, her face changed from excitement to concern. "I mean, if it's possible, and if it doesn't bother you."
"It's no problem, dear. Honestly." Palpatine said. He then added. "I also want you to know something." He said. "Should you need something, like an advice, help or just someone to speak to, you can come to me. I will help you however I can."
Lirlia smiled. "I appreciate it, Chancellor Palpatine. Thank you." She said. Then, she heard her pocket making noises.
"That must be the Jedi."
"Oh! I didn't tell them about this. Is it ok if I return to the Jedi Temple? I'm sorry that this has to be ended this way. I still cannot get the use of this thing."
"Of course. I'll ask Mas Amedda to escort you. I will contact the Council, and tell them that you were with me"
Lirlia smiled. .thank you Chancellor. l and thank you again for this. I had a good night." With that, Lirlia left the room and went to the Jedi Temple. Palpatine also returned to his office. The need to think was overwhelming for him. Once inside his office, and alone, Sidious went to his chair, turning to the window.
The Jedi were right. She cannot use the Force like other Force Sensitives, but she's strong on it. A frown formed its way on the Sith Lord's face. How can she be so strong in the Force, but cannot use it? How's that possible?
'Or may be she can. But not in a way that's known to any Jedi or Sith.' Sidious thought. 'That's a mystery yet to be discovered.'
He looked to his lap, thinking hard. 'If I want to know more about her, other than what she tells me, then I'd need to study her closely without revealing myself to her.' His mind was creating a plan to get her. 'How can I capture her? Or how can make her to come with me willingly?'
An idea came to his mind. A plan to make her come to him willingly. 'Or not.'He thought. But it won't matter if she comes to him willingly or not. He just needs time to get her.
'Time, so she can understand and see then my point of view. When that happens, I'll make her break bonds with the Jedi.'
