Chapter 6
Draco was sitting in potions class, in deep concentration. He was busy working on a potion. Sweat dripped down his forehead, as the heat rose from his cauldron. He glanced over to Hermione's seat. Only to see that it was empty. Where was she? Was he the first person to notice?
Quickly he bottled up his potion and handed it to Professor Snape.
"Professor, I noticed that the Head Girl isn't here. May I go see where she is?", Draco asked.
Snape looked up, the shock evident in his face. To think that Draco Malfoy would actually want to check on Hermione Granger.
"Yeah yeah whatever", Snape waved him out of the classroom.
Draco dashed through the hallways. He rushed to the head dorms where he found Hermione staring into the flames. Her eyes empty and her clothes appeared about five sizes too big. Her ribs stuck out of her skin. Why didn't he think of it before!
She hadn't eaten in several days. She wasn't just suffering from depression, but anorexia as well.
"Hermione?", he announced his presence.
"Yes?", Her weak voice replied, as her empty eyes met his.
"Why don't you go lay down", he suggested.
She just looked at him before slowly climbing the stairs to her room. He watched her go up, and he felt his heart drop. She looked so horrible, this was worse than he thought. Her eyes scared him the most. So empty so lifeless. With dark bags under them.
He ran down to the kitchens and got a house elf to bring up various foods to her room. He climbed up the stairs right behind the house elf. The house set down the tray of food and with a snap of his fingers he disappeared.
Draco pulled a chair up beside her bed and began to feed her. He tried not to look into her eyes, so different from what they used to be.
They used to be full of life. Always full of curiosity, showing her eagerness to learn. They showed her happiness her excitement.
Now all that was left was a shell of what there used to be. Deep down inside she was dead. Deep down inside a fire has died that needs to be rekindled. He fed her, each bite be fed to her. Each inch of the way to healing he would walk with her. This thousand-mile journey would have to begin with a small step. Then there would be another step and another. Every step Hermione took, he would be right there with her.
Was he going soft? No no he was not going soft. He was just helping her. No one deserved to go through this kind of thing. She wasn't handling it in the best way. Nope he wasn't going soft. (A/N remember he has acted like a Death Eater almost all of his life, he won't change that quickly)
Soon Hermione had fallen asleep. Draco said a spell to make the food disappear. She had not eaten a lot. Then again he hadn't expected her to. Her body had gotten used to not eating at all over the past few days. She would not eat like the average person for awhile. Until then she would not have the energy to stay awake for very long.
Seeing that Hermione would be fine for awhile, he left the head dorms.
Draco walked down the empty corridors. Everyone was at lunch currently. He stopped at a statue and said, "Hot chocolate". He leaped on to the staircase that was now rising up.
He jumped off of the stairs once they reached the top and made his way over to the heavy oak doors. He pounded on them three times and waited. They opened and he entered.
"Yes Mr. Malfoy?" Dumbledore asked his blue eyes twinkling.
"I would like to inform you that the head girl is very sick and has not been eating in days. I just fed her a little food and she is now asleep. I don't think she will be able to go to classes for a few days, until she regains her strength." He informed the head master.
"You may skip all of your classes until she is able to join us again. I will have your work sent to you and you can watch over her. Is that alright?" He asked his tone serious.
"Yes sir", Draco excused himself with a polite nod.
Draco headed back to the head dorms. He went to go to Hermione's room, but changed his mind and decided to get a little rest.
A few hours later
A blood-chilling scream was heard from the head girl's dorms. Draco sat up in bed with wide eyes. Grabbing his wand from the bedside table he silently rushed to her room. Throwing open the door he looked around. He could not find the source of her scream. Then he looked at her. Tangled in her bed sheets, her face was very pale, and tears streamed down her face. She was covered in sweat, tossing and turning in her sleep. She was having a nightmare.
"NO NO NO NO!", she screamed.
