Mudblood of Slytherin
by:
Dreams 'N Demise
A young girl dressed in Slytherin robes stormed into the Great Hall towards the end of breakfast. Her dark/tanned skin glistened with beads of moisture, black strands of hair glued to her face--the rest dripping down her back in a loose ponytail. Her lips were pressed into a thin, straight line. She was angry; her stride and look in her eyes dared anyone to say something. The Hall quieted as the students watched the irate Slytherin walk to her table where she sat at the end and glared at those around her. She dug into her breakfast and ignored the laughter that came from Malfoy and his group of friends.
"I wonder what got her knickers in a twist," laughed someone at the Gryffindor table.
"Ron!" chastised Hermione Granger. She glanced back at the Slytherin table, unable to help but feel sorry the Slytherin girl.
"Do you know her Hermione?" asked Harry.
"I've had to partner with her on occasion in Ancient Runes. She's really quite good at it; a very intelligent girl."
"She's a SLYTHERIN!" Ron said, outraged that Hermione would complement one. "I say what ever she's done for her house to turn on her she deserved it."
"What's her name, 'Mione?" Harry asked ignoring Ron. He was still watching the girl.
"De Vil. I don't know her first name." Her face scrunched up in thought. "Hurry up you two, breakfast is almost over."
Harry silently watched the proceedings at the Slytherin table. Malfoy had just stood with the pretense of going to class. As he neared DeVil Harry could see her back stiffen and she momentarily paused in her eating. Her face cleared into a blank expression. She could feel Malfoy as he stopped behind her, and when he leaned forward she shivered as his breath ghosted over her still damp ear. "What do you want, Malfoy?" she asked in a soft, calm voice.
"You'll regret making a fool of me, you filthy Mudblood." he spat the last, a disgusted sneer on his
face.
She kept a blank face as he rose to leave. After he'd taken a step away she rushed to stand and tapped Draco on his shoulder. "What!" he sneered in anger. He'd barely got it out when her fist slammed into his jaw, the sound of breaking bones quieting those near the two. He reeled, stumbling to his knees as he grabbed his jaw and moaned in pain. She caught the sight of Snape as he sweapt down from the Head Table. She picked up her school bag and left the Great Hall, stuned silence in her wake.
"That was bloody brillient!" Ron said in awe. The students broke out in scattered chatter as they stood to exit the Great Hall for class. "I wonder what Malfoy could have said to her. And did you see the look on Snape's face," Ron kept exitedly chattign with Harry and Hermione as they left for their first class of the day. "He looked positively livid." Ron was ginning from ear to ear. "She just walked out on him, knowing he wanted to talk with her. He's gonna have to give her detention for sure. I dont' know her, but I already like her--"
"Even though she's a rotten Slytherin," Hermione stressed.
"Anyone who would hit Malfoy like that is good in my books." He laughed. Hermione just shook her head disapprovingly as she eyed Harry on the other side of Ron. He was quiet and she was beginning to wonder if something was wrong. It was too late to ask, they'd reached the Charms classroom and Professor Flitwick was already rushing them into the room. She made a mental note to ask him later.
