As the heat from the furnace clicked on to warm up the morning, Nicholas, who was still in his bed, woke up to the sound of his alarm clock ringing. He never used his phone, he preferred the old fashioned ring of the bell on top of the clock. He reached his arm out to turn it off. As he lay on his back, he stretched his arms wide open in happiness. He was thinking about last night and how his brother had finally have gotten in trouble! He flung his blanket off and jumped out of bed. His morning routine was for now, peaceful. Nicholas had hoped for, as he was looking left and right to see if there were any morning traps set. This was part of the routine when you had a brother like his. Interesting that his brother, Jack, was nowhere nearby. The thought of him made Nicholas nervous a little. He knew that Jack could jump up and surprise him at any moment. It turned out that the coast was clear and that Nicholas was able to put on his clothes and pack his stuff to start his day at school safely with no traps set. As he went down the stairs to head out the front door, he. stopped once he had heard,

"Hey!"

Nicholas then had turned his head around to see that it was his older brother, Jack. A minute of silence passed with Nicholas tensing up and waiting for Jack's next move. Nicholas was expecting Jack to tease him but instead,

Jack said, "Last one to school is a rotten egg."

Then, he walked out the door. Nicholas was clueless, so without a word, Nicholas walked through the door to catch up with Jack.
